I want to fidn a nice stylus to use in place of the spen. I am not looking for anything fancy, just something that is comfortable, and has an eraser.
Prior postings recommend the Bamboo Create, the lp170es.
However, i cam accross an intuos stylus, model lp180es. Seemingly, same setup, higher model number.
Lp 170es http://www.amazon.com/WACOM-Bamboo-...&qid=1415381577&sr=8-10&keywords=wacom+stylus
Lp180es http://www.amazon.com/Intuos-Pen-To...8&qid=1415381577&sr=8-9&keywords=wacom+stylus
I cannot find any direct cmoparison between these two, and all information seems to show they hve same pressure levels, both have eraser, and only difference is look and a slight bulge on the grip for the lp180es.
I ALSO READ THAT THE INTUOS STYLI DO NOT WORK ON NOTE TABLETS, AND THE LP170ES IS GHE CREATE BUT THE 180 IS INTUOS.
Any thoughts? Anyone tried either or both?
Will the tablet recognize the eraser?
Intuos won't work, that much I can confirm straight away. Intuos tablets use an entirely different kind of technology. And because I've tried it with all my Intuos pens.
There is a special Bamboo Stylus Feel for Galaxy Note. I don't know if the other Bamboo Styli work, as I already own that one.

I saw an interesting looking iPad stylus in PC World/Currys today in the UK. It had a small tip. It was reasonably price too. I was wondering what others experience of using this stylus on their TF was like if anyone has tried it.
Some other user experience below.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/ipad-accessories/1461926-good-cheap-stylus-found.html
You can't see it but from my inspection it looked like the tip is angled for more precise writing and has a flatter side for just tapping.
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/iwantit-stylus-pen-black-for-iphone-ipod-touch-07110176-pdt.html
I bought one of these styluses when I first brought my transformer, initial impressions were that it was ok, there is a bit of friction when using it for handwriting but it is ok for drawing.
Because I wanted it for handwriting, it was not good enough for me so I purchased one of the Boxwave ones, this one was more accurate and although not as thin as the PC World one, worked better for handwriting.
I am now using the Wacom Bamboo Stylus and this one has the tip of the Currys/PC World one i.e. the size is small and about the same size but has the smoothness of the Boxwave. The design of the Wacom is far better as it feels like a real pen in the hand although they could have made it slightly longer. Price wise the Wacom is the most expensive however, after wasting money on all the other styluses that I have tried, I dont think I will be buying another stylus anytime soon as this one fits the bill nicely. The Wacom one works flawlessly on the Ipad but there currently are software limitations on Honeycomb that do not allow the stylus to work as smoothly as they do on the Ipad. I am sure the software on Honeycomb will improve over time and be on par with their rivals.
I'm gonna give this one a try when my TF comes back from repair. Assuming my TF is all good to go that is.

Try Adonit Jot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275690&page=31)
I just ordered it.. hopefully it will be as good as the reviews say!
Has anyone tried this one
http://www.amazon.ca/Proporta-Quillit-Stylus-ASUS-Transformer/dp/B005CDRDRS
looks like a good quality stylus. For someone living in Canada, this is a good option.
For the jot pro you have to pay a lot of shipping fees.
I bought the stylus listed at the top and modified it to fit inside of a hollowed out pen tube. It still sucks IMO, it doesn't pick up as well as a larger tipped stylus, and still doesn't feel natural.
Just want to say that all the replacement Wacom pens i've purchased for my Asus EP121 tablet (12.1" Windows 7 Tablet with Capacative/Wacom input like the Note) work just fine on the note And much more comfortable to use than the S-Pen (haven't tried with the holder)
The three i've tested are the stock pen that comes with EP121, the Axiotron Studio, and the Axiotron Digitizer. Picked them up from here: http://www.nationwidesurplus.com/casearch.aspx?SearchTerm=wacom+pen with a 10% discount or so from a coupon code a few months back.
This is going to make it even harder not to carry my tablet with the note since I can tether the tablet to it..
I think any "Wacom Penenabled" pen will work with the device. I've noticed that so far that the eraser works, but the 2nd button does not.
do you know if the pressure sensitivity is more accurate with the wacom pens? The s-pen (at least mine) has almost no travel, seems like off and on.

I didn't even think to try this out. My pen from a HP tx2500 works too! The eraser, pressure sensitivity, and the button works. its a lot easier to use too. Thanks

I didn't even think about this possibility. I have a similar HP laptop with the touch and pen. Forget which model exactly, I have a new laptop now. However, if the pen works with the note when I get it, I'm going to constantly carry it with me unless I'm wearing basketball shorts or sweatpants, as the pen that came with my laptop is a great size and has some weight to it. Thanks for reminding me!

i noticed last week that the wacom stylus for my Fujitsu T4220 works on the Note. i agree with OP, sounds like all wacom stylus' will work with the Note.
and yes, pressure sensitivity is noticed on the Note by this wacom stylus from my Fujitsu...so they probably all do that.
All my thinkpad tablet pens work.

My Intuos2 doesn't work. I'll have to try Intuos3/Cintiq next time I'm at my friend's studio. Any way to disable non-pen drawing input on the S Memo app?
Wacom Intuos4 stylii also don't work on the Note, ah well.

I think you are right
I own an HP Tx2500 and i pulled the pen out of it last night for fun... it also has a clicking button, much like the note...i was able to take a screenshot and pull up the S memo, just like i was using the S Pen. pretty neat
Anybody considering buying a high quality wacom pen? I think if I end up using the S Pen enough that I could see myself buying this:
https://www.wacom.com/en/Store/Pages/Product.aspx?product=KP1302&crumb={A8DA06FA-349A-4FF4-A998-DF0429E676DF}
It's damn expensive, but if I could find a deal somewhere I would definitely drop some cash on one.

Yeah that pen wont work you have to use a pen that works with a Wacom pennable display. These are specific pens that are designed for integrated tablet options. Try looking at IBM pens fore the x61 and above machines. they are all over Ebay and cheap about 15 - 20 dollars a pen. I'm sitting here in a room full of Intuos 3 and 4 pens and none of them actually work on my note, they are not compatible.
I Just tried a friends Cintiq pen, and it did not work on my note. Also tried the pen that came with my first generation 5" wacom tablet it also did not work; did try a pen off a random HP pen tablet in the office and that does work. Not sure what the differences in pen technology are, but obviously there are some.

There is a difference in many generations of Wacom pen tech. In my tests all of the Penabled styluses have worked very well. so it seems a good rule of thumb here when considering a higher quality stylus is if its a stylus designed for a Wacom branded product. Or a stylus for a 3rd party product that happens to use Wacom Technology. no first party products have worked in my tests and all 3rd party ones have. Currently I am using the stylus from the Samsung 7 series tablet. Eraser works, button works , a noticeable increase in pressure accuracy and above all else its better shielded to prevent the auto-pressing bug many are facing with the S-pen. I'd be shocked if Samsung doesn't try to market a "S-pen pro" device in the near future.
I purchased my 7 series tablet pen from amazon for about 30 bucks.

REALLY the slate's pen works?? I carry my slate pen everywere in my pocket ready to use on my slate, but i went to a best buy and decided to try my stylus on the note that i saw on display it didn't work =\ , I really hope it really does work because this will be great. But i do have the developers version of the slate, doubt that should make a difference. My note comes in a few days..cross my fingers!
Also for others interested the great thing about the Samsung Slate Stylus is that it has a penclip so i easily clip it to the inside of my pocket and not worry about it falling out.
Wacom "Penabled" pens work, which you'll usually find with tablet PCs. Confirmed with the pen from my Thinkpad X60.
Wacom's regular line of pens, such as from the Bamboo, or the Intuos, do not work.
Note that even the eraser on my Thinkpad pen worked in the Memo app! Very cool.
As a cheaper alternative to the Samsung digitizer pen (for the slate). There is a company called Nationwide Surplus that sells white Axiotron digitizer pens for about $18 with free shipping. It's basically the same thing as the Samsung.
White stylus
They also sell a 3 pack of these for $50.
They sell an Axiotron Studio pen as well which includes a grip. I used to have one of these and they are very nice and comfortable, but might be overkill for the note.
I just ordered a 3-pack of the white stylus to have some stock. They come with extra nib units too. Great deal.
I purchased this one a few days ago on their site, the price was $14.

I would've loved to have gone for one of those Axiotron pens, but I'm particular about my gadgets being black.
I went and opted for this Toshiba pen. At $35 shipped, it was the cheapest black pen I could find. Those Samsung pens started at $40ish shipped, and I like how it looked thinner and more pencil-like than the Samsung.

Cool. Also, if you are in need of another at some point you can search around for a Fujitsu branded one. These pens are all basically the same. And there are deals to be had. No real reason to pay more than $20 for one of these.
I have been thinking of ordering an Adonit Jot Pro stylus for the Samsung 7.7. I asked the vendor in ebay about it's compatibility with the samsung 7.7 and I was informed it is not compatible.
Has anyone ordered the Jot pro? If so, It'll be really good if someone could write a review on the performance of jot pro on the 7.7. Thanks.
From Adonit webiste:
Compatible with all capacitive touch screens: iPads, iPhones, MacBook Trackpads, Magic Trackpads, HTC, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, Blackberry.

This answers your question. So this will even work with any capacitive-screen phone.
http://youtu.be/E-untpEM9mo
I read a blog review of this stylus and they mentioned that it didn't work well with certain screen protectors.
I'm going to order one later I think, thanks for the heads up
Edit - maybe not, just read some Amazon reviews...
They look silly with the suck cup like thing on the tip we need ics to hopefully be able to use a regular pen like stylus
Using Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800
just bought a jot today
it is not working well with my 7.7
i don't think it's the matter of the screen protector
have to tap real hard for one successful response, which makes annoying tapping sound
i have dagi P507 and P301, both work quite well instead
I got my jot pro today. It took 13 days to reach me. Quite a long wait. But it was worth it. The moment I received it, I tried it with Supernote. It works flawlessly. Only regret is the lack of palm detection.
I also tried it with TabNotes pro. Works even better. There was no noticeable lag in the input, and I'd rate the precision of this stylus at 8/10, which I'd say is pretty impressive.
For everyone's info I've installed touch screen tune. Haven't tried without it. Will uninstall touch screen tune and post the difference.

I guess the digitizer would make the tablet thicker but nothing betters a WACOM -- it just works. No clicking, is pressure sensitive, has eraser function and on and on.
i got my jot pro a few days ago and had a blast with it. and while it's not pin-point accurate, it's miles better than any 'usual' stylus I've tried. works great with the super note app and sketchbook pro.

any more reviews for this ? very interested in it but im afraid it dont work as well.
without a screen protector and just bare glass, I recommend this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LG7W36/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A30XRGG45X0IFD
Given the screens highly sensitive nature I don't think you have to worry about scratching it with the metal ring, since you won't have to press that hard. It also has a smaller tip that provides greater accuracy even though this device can recognize capacitive objects as small as ~2.5mm^2 (I've tested it).
The mesh allows it to glide without any real issue, plus adds a great deal of durability since it won't wear out like foam or rubber tipped ones.
Hi
I've tried a few cheap styli and not been that impressed, bought a low cost one off amazon which had a weird chiselled angled bit and was unusable (I was so disappointed).
The next one I have tried was from the pound shop! Works OK actually but not very precise, it has a squashy rounded edge.
I think I'd like to spend up to maybe a few pounds... will let you know...
Unfortunately, I have yet to find a capacitive stylus that doesn't have the big rounded end on it. I picked up a pair of cheapos off of Amazon for about seven dollars each last year, and while mine kinda fell apart (The tip was just held on with surface pressure - a little super glue fixed that), my girlfriend's has survived all the better. Plus they double as ballpoint pens, which is kind of nice - one piece of equipment, two functions.
I've been looking into getting a replacement stylus for myself, one that's longer and more like a traditional pen (the short squat ones are a little odd for me). However, none of them have a pen-like pointing tip. All of them are the rounded rubber fingertip-style tip.
Anyone else found a pen-like tip stylus ? I did some googling and found that the nice special narrow-point S-Pen for the Samsung Note won't work with standard devices like the S2 or the HTC Amaze (which sucks, because it's a good-looking tip).
That's interesting - I wonder how the stylus on the Samsung works, is there something different about the screen to recognise that stylus?
From what I read, there's another electromagnetic layer in the digitizer that allows for that stylus to work in a pressure environment - the longer / harder you press, the more "ink" shows on the screen, kind of like when you press harder with a pencil - the wider and darker the line.
Plus, from what I read, it isn't really capacitive, since it doesn't work on other tablets / phones, which sucks. I would love a fine(r)-tip stylus.
thx for that -
sounds like a cross between an [old fashioned?] resistive screen and a capacitive one!
I have the tried the Targus, the Bamboo, and the Samsung model for the Galaxy Tab line. The Bamboo has a good shape and is only slightly heavier than the Targus model. Samsung is the heaviest and is balanced more the way a writing instrument/heavy ball point pen would be.
I don't think the tips are really all that different though. If price is an issue and you don't like the Targus style/look, I'd say go with the Samsung. It's around $20 on Amazon while the Bamboo will cost you $30. They both definitely feel more like writing/drawing tools, and because of that they are somewhat better at making marks.
On the other hand, there is no lack of do it yourself options out there.
thx! totally cool, want to make my own now!
I got my 12.2 yesterday and also the Bamboo UK2, and the S-pen replacement (said official Samsung, but the box was trashed and open when I got it). All from Amazon.
I've tried all three and they all seem to work pretty well. What I did was various drawing and scribbling with each, followed by drawing some technical shapes repeatedly and trying to connect and match lines. Also understand I have a cheap plastic screen cover on the 12.2, I'll have to see what I think when I get my glass cover.
The included stylus is nice and I like the tip on it the best, but its way too light. This internal stylus the hovering dot is the most on target (from viewing with my eyes) with where the mark will be on the tablet. It matches very well also if I don't look at the dot and just act like the tablet is paper. Drawing hexes was great, but the lines are very heavy, not much pressure difference here. I would choose this one first, except its too flimsy.
Bamboo feel UK2. Nice weighting to this pen, but I don't like the rough plastic surface, it feels like I'm holding raw wood (yuck), why didn't they make it smooth? The hovering dot seems off with where the tip is, a pixel or two off it seems like, and it changes with the angle I'm holding the pen. I don't like that. However if I don't pay attention to that, and just draw like the tablet is paper, the marks come out right where I want them to and expect them to. That is good. This pen has the best pressure sensitivity, it is easy to make thin or thick lines. This is the one I'm choosing to do most work with right now.
Samsung replacement S-pen with eraser. Too light. This pen has a similar offset as the UK2, but its different somehow, the offset is different between the dot and the pen in a different way. This pen also does work well if I forget about the hovering dot and just draw. I would choose this pen third of the three, but I'm going to try the mod/trick putting it into a G2 and see how that works out.
So overall I don't really like any of these pens, but the UK2 feel works out the best for me I think in terms of overall functionality. The cheap jerks only send two replacement tips with it (one hard, one soft). All the rest had at least 4 if not more replacement tips.
