Hi All,
i think i just softbricked my S3. i was running Omega rom 33.2 and found the phone was unstable. Hence i wiped data, factory reset, clear dalvik cache and etc. after flashing the rom, it got stucked at samsung boot screen.
i even tried to reflash the rom but still failed to boot up. after that i decided to flash stock rom using Odin (I9300ZSDLK2). it managed to boot in but then it got stucked at recovery (failed to mount /system (Invalid argument). i thought it could be something wrong with the /system, i then flash CWM to format /system. obvious i wont be asking for help if that step succeeded. i basically got pawned because i am not able to mount /system. anybody can help me?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i which is rooted but on stock rom. I recently installed a live wallpaper "Exodus live wallpaper" from the play store and after going through the options it provided my phone just shutdown. I tried turning it back on and it started boot looping. I had a nandroid backup ready from CWM recovery but that would stop at data saying "Error while restoring /data!". I found this a bit odd so I factory reset it but with no luck. The next step I thought would be to flash back the stock using Odin. Again, no luck. After it says successful it reboots the phone which goes straight into recovery saying:
E:Can't open /data/log/recovery_log.txt
E:copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /data/log/recovery_kernal_log.txt
Reebooting...
and boot loop again.
I've tried re-partitioning, wiping cache, wiping dalvik cache, factory resets, formatting everything, using adb but with no luck (couldn't get root), tried restoring previous backups, trying different roms and copying the files directly to the directories using a root file manager.
I am now exhausted after 4 days of near sleepless nights trying to fix it and with nothing to show for it :crying: .
Please Help!!!!!

Use CWM to format everything except sdcard
Then flash firmware with Odin 3.07 with pit file and after flashing, go to recovery and wipe data
Try this and report. I've been in the situation and dozens more. We can always find a way out

E:copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /data/log/recovery_kernal_log.txt
and it still boot loops

UPDATE
I've used Aroma file manager to see if I can find these files and they are exactly where they should be with read/write permissions for root and system (rw-rw-r--) so I have no idea why recovery can't open them.
also is there any way to force android to read them or to copy "recovery_kernal_log.txt" manually?
I'm thinking of taking it to samsung for repairs as nothing has worked so far so if anyone has some additional advice please post it before thursday 15th of august
First clear cache data from stock recovery. Than use cwm format system and data then enter download mode and use odin with pit file. U must use your country spesific firmware. If problem persists after all you may have a faulty phone.
Ps: take out sd card after odin flashes successfully in case problem related to sd card.

Looks like I have a faulty phone then.
I wonder how that would have happened from using the live wallpaper as it was perfectly fine before that.

Probably its the last drop makes phone dead! Usually high powered magnets or heat may cause the error. If you use your phone while charging it gets really hot. Hope phone service can repair it.

Hey can I ask? How much did you pay for to fix your phone? We have the same phone and we have the same problem. im just playing modded game and it restarts and saying cant open copykernel file etc...
please help me ! I've try to reflash it . And its not fix. Ive been searching for almost two weeks . But I cant see other solution for how to fix it . Please help me.
Thank you.
Hi all
Dad's I9300 (international) started making problems booting up a week ago (sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't for a few hours). Begged him to bring it in for me to backup. Of course he didn't and today the device refused to boot permanently. It simply gets stuck on the logo screen.
When boot into recovery I got lots of E: failed to mount /cache. After wiping the cache and rebooting into recovery I now get only E: failed to mount /system (see attached image).
Download mode also seems to be working.
Device is 4.1.2 with stock ROM and stock recovery.
The main concern here is to recover all personal data. After that, I don't care if the device gets bricked. I searched the web and came up with two possible solutions:
1) Reflashing the same stock ROM I flashed a while ago (hoping that what I have stored on my PC is what is actually flashed on the device.....), and not wiping the data. As I understand, flashing a stock ROM without wiping data shouldn't cause the device not to boot.
2) Flash PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery using Odin and use Aroma file browsing to copy internal memory files (pics, mp3, WhatsApp data, etc.) to an external SD and then start messing around with the phone. (as described here)
What's my best option here? It sounds to me that the second one is better, but I'm not familiar with flashing a recovery and possible consequences.
Can someone kindly advise? I'll greatly appreciate any word of wisdom...
Solved.
My phone was dead due to unknown reason. It was very slow for last couple of days, so I reboot the phone into recovery and then wipe cache and dalvik. After the wipe I reboot the phone but it stuck on Samsung logo. So I tried different unsuccessful methods like, flash stock ROM, etc...
After flashing the stock ROM, rebooted the phone into recovery for factory reset, then only I noticed the error E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument).

I had this exact same problem all week.
There are a few steps you need to take before you can get your phone back to normal.
Step 1. DO NOT wipe the efs. Doing so will wipe your IMEI and serial number therefore never letting your phone connect to a cellular network again.
Step 2. Flash TWRP with ODIN and backup your efs using TWRP (make sure to keep this backup on your PC)
Step 3. Get the zerolte PIT file and the BTU stock ROM (Flashing my original stock rom didnt fix the issue so I used BTU and it fixed it)
Step 4. Flash the PIT file using ODIN and wait for your phone to restart. Then enter download mode again and flash the BTU stock rom
Step 5. Go back into ODIN and flash TWRP again, then make a backup of your efs again.
Step 6. Plug your device back into your PC and put your backed up efs from step 2 into the new backup and overwrite the files
Step 7. Restore the backup in TWRP and restart your phone
If your phone boots wait a little while and the carrier selection menu may show up. At this point you can leave your phone on that ROM and wait for Samsungs updates.
Common asked questions:
My phone fails at sboot.bin. You either havent flashed the PIT file or your phones bootloader has been updated to a newer bootloader. Try flashing just the modem.bin file from the tar file and seeing if that fixes your issue.
I've wiped my efs partition. In this event you need to go to a repair shop and have them write you a new efs. Once a efs is wiped your IMEI and serial number are irreversibly gone.
My phone fails at hidden.img. Try flashing again if its not working flash a new PIT file and try again.
The file name of my firmware: G925FXXU5DQA7_G925FBTU5DQA2_G925FXXU5DPL3_HOME.tar.md5
Android version: 6.0.1
CSC: BTU
Hope this helps you fix your device
i just cleared my efs with z3x tool..my phone stuck at samsung logo..anyone help me plz
Hi all,
I have Samsung A5 2016 and I tried to update my phone through latest Naugat official firmware using by Odin however it turned out something wrong. My first problem is when I enter the boot screen, ''installing update'' screen pops up and then ''no comment screen'' afterward. Second problem is that boot screen shows an error says E: failed to find /misc partition. I've read tons of post however I couldn't figure this out.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me.
Thank you & Best!
Hi
My message has been moved here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/help/sm-a510f-rom-stock-entering-mode-t3653121
Thanks
Anybody know how to deal with the E: failed to find /misc partition? I saw this come up on my SM-J700T after I tried to flash TWRP. The flash passed but TWRP was not successfully installed. Probably because I did not prevent reboot and reboot in a proper way . But now I have been all around the barn trying to recover and eventually get twrp and root. I flashed several stock roms with lots of errors and finally got the phone running with Nougat 7.1.1 but the E: failed to find /misc partition error remained on the phone all the while. I was unable to use Odin to re-partition due to errors and have been trying to figure out how to use adb, also with errors (yesterday I launch "abd devices" and get a listing for my device (I think- it is not properly identified) and it lists the device properly, today it lists the same device as unauthorized. So what I really would like to do is completely wipe the phone and start fresh but I only have access to the stock bootloader which allows cache wipe and data wipe- factory reset, which does not wipe the Missing partition. So 1)completely wipe phone 2)install twrp 3)root
