My G3 is rooted with stump root and this is the first time I've rooted my phone. When Lg rolls out the update would I have to unroot my device before updating or will I be fine updating it even though the phone is rooted?

The theme of don't take OTA's has been beat to death. In short, update to L via official OTA roll out, and you can likely kiss root and unlocked boot loaders good bye. You need to make a personal decision here. Either you want Lollipop ASAP, or you want a rooted and unlocked device. If you want the former, you can take the official update. Then you better hope the stock setup is alright with you, because you may never see root, at least for a long time, on Android L. It may take a while for a developer or development team to get a ROM on L, but when that happens, you can have L, with root, and an unlocked bootloader. Get it now or get it later. Your call. If you get it now and don't like the consequences, it was your call. The devs are a lot smarter than me, and I figure they can take out of the official L build what they need for a ROM and leave the stump and bump in place, so I'm staying on Jasmine 3.0 or Beanstown's ROM until they (or some developer) do an L based ROM. L may or may not be an impossible nut to crack, but I don't see where there is enough out there to really say for sure. I'm just saying to err on the side of caution.
One dev in particular, @Chainfire, has done some root things with the L preview. But it is the preview. Read what he has to say about L is for lockdown here.

I wasn't planning on losing my root I just wanted to know if I was able to update and still keep root access but thank you for the post. I now know that if I want to keep root access I won't be able to update OTA.

On my note 2 I accepted the OTA update and some how I rooted it with the OTA Root keeper. Evertything works fine but I cannot install custom recovery. What woould be the best way to unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery now.
I also have galaxy s3 and droid bionic both are rooted and custom roms installed and working great.
I have been with Verizon 16 years and it's abuot time to change but I think there all the same anymore $$$
If you took the ota then you can not unlock your bootloader as of this time.
why on earth are folks so hell bent on ota's???? fyi when you buy a device that came locked but was unlocked by devs at xda, YOU NEVER EXCEPT ANY OTA! It has been posted all over this forum...please research before you do anything!!
Totally agree! I won't even update an app until I know what the changes are, and even then I usually wait to see if any issues arise with the update.
Doesn't matter how many times you warn people no to install an OTA because it has a bootloader, someone won't listen.
I would never consider taking a ota until after our devs have a chance to check it out. Besides if you run a custom rom your developer will most likely be updating to the new build and you know you can safely flash it.
Besides I know verizon is more worried about blocking crap than they are on their real updates.
Forget the security update and give us official 4.1.2 screw verizon! Verizon ota usually means bad things.

I agree with that. However my point was instead of Verizon spending their time improving their devices they would rather spend their money and time trying to figure out how to screw us. I know 4.1.2 brings little to the table but maybe if they were not working on locking the bootloader they could improve on the builds instead. I would still rather have 4.1.1 over 4.2.1 any day.
Hey guys! I'm currently running VRUAMDK. I don’t have a custom rom…I’m just rooted. I rooted to get rid of ads and so on. I would like to unroot my phone since there has been a couple updates since I rooted. The last update you guys told me how to make the phone such that it wouldn’t ask me to update again. I’d like to reverse this along with unrooting.
My goal is to have the latest updates and 4.3 that is rolling out soon. To do that I think I’ll need to unroot. I don’t want to do a reset though because I have some custom apps on my phone using tasker that I really don’t want to recreate.
How do I go about doing this?

Wait for a stock based ROM, then flash it.
If you really want a MI1 phone and your's is black I'll trade.
I'm just your average Android enthusiast, not nearly as talented and skilled as you devs, but I know my way around my phone. I am currently rocking the Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 NC5 (Rooted with Towelroot and Safestrap 3.72 installed). I never thought highly of Samsung's user interface and have wanted to upgrade to CM forever, but as each new update comes I really, really want it, so I carelessly take the OTA. I've done this far too many times so I decided to disable the system update app so I wouldn't be bothered by the new updates that come around.
Anyway, I think it's time to upgrade to Lollipop now that it's available, but I really want to keep root access, and since you guys are the professionals, I want to know the best way to flash the new update instead of take the OTA, which, if I'm not mistaken, will let me keep root and the small possibility that I can get Cyanogen some day. Is it best for me to just go ahead and take the risk-free OTA update, or should I flash? If so, can someone guide me through the process? I'm sorry if this sounds like child's play to you but I don't want to brick my phone in any situation, so it'd be great if someone could help me with this. Thanks in advance!

Update: I followed a tutorial to update to OC1, but was not successful (Wouldn't boot). I used Odin to reflash the NC5 and now I'm back where I started. Anyone have an idea?

I am on stock rooted Android 5.0.1, 24B, Lollipop, and have bumped TWRP 2.8.7.0 I know that Andoroid 6.0 is supposed to be headed for the LG G3 in the next few months. I also, know that Verizon is painfully slow to update their phones. I wonder what the best upgrade path might be, for me? 1.) Wait for Verizon OTA, remove root and TWRP and then take the OTA? 2.)Wait for someone to build a rooted stock 6.0 ROM for the Verizon phone, VS985? Any ideas how I can get set, ahead of time, to be in the best position to move to 6.0?

first and foremost lol, if you see official M for this device before say feb/mar next year, you will be lucky. likely longer.
any rumors to the contrary are plain wrong, i mean this is verizon were talking about lol
at this point we dont know yet when the nexus line is getting the final official. could be next week, could be next month.
verizon cant even start to build the ota until official is released.
1. you never want to take an ota before verifying what they did and didnt break, like root and rollback ability.
so, i would wait for the ota, asses the above, then decide which way to proceed.
2. there is really no way to say which direction is best, until a dev gets a look at the files from the update.
A. nothing you can do ahead of time, and honestly, likely 6mos or more away, i wouldnt even worry about it.

I agree with @bweN diorD. I would generally go with "2.)Wait for someone to build a rooted stock 6.0 ROM for the Verizon phone, VS985?", in which case you don't have to do anything at all, just wait for it to be available. If for whatever reason that never happens, then I'd go with waiting for the KDZ to be made available (could be days or weeks after the OTA, was only days IIRC for 24B), then flash it using LG Flash Tools 2014, although then you wouldn't be rooted and you might not be able to root it, but you'd be running it until/if someone does release a rooted version or a new root method, if possible.

Ha! You said "asses".
After extensive searching, it's apparent that there is no method to root the LG Escape 3 (LG-K373). It seems KingRoot will provide temp root, but only to cause problems and random reboots. My understanding is that KingRoot will not work effectively with a locked bootloader on Marshmallow.
MY QUESTION: Is is possible to downgrade Android to Lollipop in order to achieve root on this device.
There doesn't appear to be any real community/interest in obtaining root on this device, although with it's recent release as a promotional device on Cricket I would assume more users will be showing up.
Is it simply Android 6 w/ the locked bootloader that is keeping the device from being able to achieve root?
If so, I would greatly appreciate a point in the right direction. Also, if there are any threads I'm missing in regard to this device?

It came w/ Marshmallow 6.0 I haven't even begun to track down the required Lollipop files until I was at least partly sure it would work. I'm new to LG, although I've downgraded with Samsung and Motorola in the past without much issue. I guess the first thing is to figure all of the flash files I'll need.
The real question is assuming I can get it backed down to Lollipop with Rooting be possible?

No man i think u cant achieve root on this device. If u try to root ur device will brick. Since ur device came with Android 6 u cant downgrade to lollipop.
So u cant downgrade and root ur device.

Thank you for the reply. I am just shocked that every step of the way is failure. What is the most surprising to me is that nearly all other LG devices can get root seemingly without much trouble. Even the flagship phones like the G6 (and even the ability to unlock the bootloader).
If I could just ask an opinion of those out there..... Does anyone think this is something that will happen in the future? (Root), or is there just not enough interest in the device to have a community putting any effort into it???
I've always had higher end phones of which I managed to break and decided to try one of these lower end phones. It just seems like there isn't enough of a community working on them... I would just like to think someone (smarter than me) will find a way to get root??
