i really tierd to try fix it ...i have an i9300 , with android 4.1.2(buyed yesterday ..)the imei of this was something like 97654323456...i try to upgrade android via OTA but wasn't work , in keys is sayd im up to date ..so i enter in sammobile , i download firmware for i9300 android 4.3 and surprize , "not registred on network"i was verify the imei ..356....is not mine,i found the 4.12 version , install and ..356 imei (not registred) , i can't modify the imei because when i enter in *#7284# i have just uart and usb ...no qualcom , HO CAN I FIND THAT QUALCOM? or how to fix it??
Sounds like your efs was already modified/corrupt and failed to update to the newer version that 4.3 requires.
Take it to a repair centre for them to recode the efs, make sure it works on 4.3 firmware before you pay.
There is no other option if you don't have an efs backup.
When you take your phone for repair make sure they have the correct IMEI. The efs file shouldn't be accessible really, read only.

I have a question.
My phone (samsung galaxy s2 gt 9001) has a generic imei, it is completely diffrent than original number imei under battery.
Phone works fine and I can make calls.
I want to flash phone to android 4.0 but I do wonder if phone will return to original imei after flashing (and let me do only emergency calls - original imei is probably blacklisted) or phone will still keep generic imei and allow me to make all calls.

You should always back up your EFS folder, which stores your original IMEI. I hope you did, have a look here anyway: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021

A factory reset or flash of new firmware is always the first step to try EFS recovery so yes their is a chance of correct IMEI .

I`ve been watching all this topics for a while cuz I have some problems with my Galaxy S3. I`ll tell you what i did.
All worked fine, had the 4.1.1 official rom + root, then i wanted to go to 4.1.2 so i flashed an UK stock ROM. After that i kept getting the "Sim has been removed" error need restart bla bla.. so i search all around for a fix.. i changed 2 SIM cards and nothing. Then I flashed a Poland version 4.1.2 Stock. That version was better but I encountered the "Call ended" error.. calls would end after 3-4mins or i could not call at all. Then i flashed (and this is when the problem started) Stock Vodafone Spain and got "No network". I must say my IMEI/ SN all are intact.
Then I patched only radio modem from the UK ROM with Odin, but with "PHONE" option (i know i did wrong).. i wanted to change only the modem and it worked cuz i checked with *#1234#.. but from that moment not even one ROM has worked in showing me the network. On About phone says "Network: Unknown". Sometimes it connects to Vodafone but when I try to call says "No network service".
Now my phone is in second service and they can`t make it get a network on. They tryed the neverlock thing but i think was already unblocked.
I tryed rooting and using this Ariza. and were 2 versions there.. I tryed v5 only and didnt worked.
I tried the ##72786# and I get the following message: Connection Problem or invalid MMI code (found somewhere that for this code i need to have Wifi on to work?)
Now i`m thinking to get my phone back and dunno reflash with a good .pit file ? or just reRoot and try v4 Ariza.. I`m really sad, it`s been 5 days and I can`t think on nothing else to do.. I even called Samsung official service and they said to send it to them.
If you have any idea, pls need help. tnx

Ok so tnx to JJEgan i checked all the IMEI numbers and only 2 of them were modified. Thing is before I pached the v5 Ariza, I did a EFS backup with that program. That backup img saved my phone.
Firstly I got my phone back from service with 4.2.1 official ROM (thats nice, cost me 0 $ ). I rooted with CF-Auto and used Ariza patch (v4). But my imei was still wrong so after that I used EFS_Backup_Restore_new_ADB.rar to restore my IMEI/SN with the old EFS backup then I used another programEFS Professional v2.0. I checked the option to repair No network and clicked Restore. After that I restarted my phone and I got the messages from provider with APN settings and so on.

My nature is to be curious, thats why i install many roms and custom roms and after that in the morning i bricked my phone. The imei it was 0049..... and serial number a number not throught. Practicaly my phone it was like a media player because wifi its working. I try many metods but without luck. In the past i make a backup of efs folder but after many metods of restore .... no imei. I look on my phone and i want to jump over his had ). After i smoke a tigarette on a site i see e simple metode. It is an aplications CHIMERA PHONE TOOL . Take a look on site : https://chimeratool.com. What do you must to have is to pay 12 euros. Is not to much because for go to service i think we must to pay much more. The program is very simple.
- Connect with USB DEBUGING ON. I hope you install the drivers for s3.
- The aplications (if you pay) show like this in the picture below.
- You have many posibilities: root unroot, flash new firmware from the zone where is the phone located. Its nice because for me is not important witch csc kernel modem bla bla bla i have. Important it was to working very good. You can repair imei, serial number, and.... MAC adresse of wifi and bluetooth.. nice. And not for the last place , you can UNLOCK the phone.
Dont make like me, first you must to flash firmware beacuse its better to be stock and new and for not have errors on writing imei..After you flash the rom you must root and after that write s/n and imei. By mistake in the morning when i erase imei i erase also the serial number and i dont realize that. Its very important to verify on settings if you have S/N like on the back of the phone near imei. After that the phone is working without any problem. In the past every time i flash something i must to install pached kernel and modem of ZULUMAN to working. Or ariza patch . to my problem
I had the "Cyanogenmod 11 nightly" ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S 3. By the time the system was slow and I have flashed the latest CyanogenMod Rome via Odin on my phone. After the reboot, I had no connection to the mobile network, my serial number consisted entirely of zeros and my IMEI was not like it is in the battery compartment.
I have now spent several days trying to find a solution but for all IMEI Restore tutorials have not brought with me. Unfortunately, I did not know much about even before the Android system per se and the EFS folder and have therefore no backup.
I tried the IMEI
restore the NV_data.bin + NV_data.bin.md5 methodResult: IMEI was still so wrong seem right that my IMEI is no longer located in the System
restore with the downgrade to a German MG6 Android versionResult: IMEI was still not rightrestore using tools like QPST + nv ReaderWriter or EFS ProfessionalResult: EFS Professional -> Qualcomm NV Tools (after efsprofesional the mobile phone has put into the correct USB mode) -> connect to my phone broke off as soon as I wanted to read or write
QPST + nv ReaderWriter -> gave me appear not correct port on my phone
all the drivers I have installed clean and tidy. After further investigation, I found out that I need a special UARTcable this (and maybe a Z3X Box or something similar?)

How can I get now establish a new nv_data.bin file that includes my right IMEI
or whether (if it is really expensive) someone is so net and created me such a file

i put the usb debugging on (settings > options > about device > [clicked 7 times on Buildnumber] that activates the developer menu and i put usb debugging on in settings > options > developer options > usb debugging)

dont work for me becouse "ONLY for US variants. It DOES work on Qualcomm CPU and DOESN'T work on Galaxy International Version with Exinos CPU!"

1. Flash last firmware with Odin (again), go to recovery immediatly and do factory reset.
2. If 1. doesn't help, try Ariza patch.
3. If 2. doesn't help, let it repair by Samsung-service (cheap).

Ariza patch wont help it just restore the baseband (like written in the Thread "wont help if u goot a 0049 imei)
maybe it works if someone got a i9300 (intl) (exynos NOT Qualcomm) and a z3x-box or another. i send him my right imei-number he backup his efs folder and create the right nv_data.bin file for me. then he send it to me via email or he put it on uploadet in ecample. i download it in put it on my phone and restore my imei.
maybe i think is a full efs.img backup file better xD. if this way work it would be the best i think.
Ißve called some mobile reperature stations an mony of then dont do an imei-restore. i got one and go now to him maybe he can help. but if someone got a box and a old sgs3 i would be sooooooo happy if he could help me.

Wow that's the most awful thing that can happen to you.. I had the same problem as you on a MTK device.... I don't know about this device. But I tried with a app that let's you rewrite the IMEI number.. but this didn't worked for me.. maybe it will work for you.. wait some other guys here will respond asap .. also check on YT about your problem. I am sure there you will find what are looking for.

The imei app your talking about only masks the imei number and doesn't permanently change it back to what it was. Thanks for trying to helping though
