I've been having odd wifi issues on my z ultra, it says connected, I can see the bars are full, run wifi analyzer, shows i'm connected good signal strength, ive tired both 2.4ghz and 5ghz band, still does same thing, for little bit be working fine then i'll enter a web page or click link and nothing. just loads an loads but no progress, then it'll show the little dinosaur, then as quick as that appears its loaded the page. apps sometimes wont load, close and say "no network connection" very odd. Didn't know if phone issue or router issue, anyone have any experience dealing with the same? thanks
I just tested my wifi and don't have any issues and as you can tell from the screen shot I only had 2 bars and it worked fine, I even can work on 1 bar fine. Did you root your phone and uninstall something? What rom are you using?

Stock rom, google play edition device. kit kat. haven't rooted or anything
Sounds like it's a problem with your router than, if you really depend on wifi I would upgrade your current plan. Cause on my wifi with 2 bars I can get about 11-14 mbs ?
Maybe try wifi signal Booster from the play store

I really need some help with my wifi issues on my tab. I am tethering from my Thunderbolt and as you can see in the picture, my signal strength is as good as it can get. However, the websites are not loading at the time of the picture, the weather will not refresh and my words with friends won't update. All of this is sporadic. After I took the screenshot I went right back and hit refresh on the browser and it worked.
Here's a good example; just a few minutes ago I downloaded Swiftkey from the Amazon appstore and no sooner had it downloaded and installed when I went to the browser and when it was trying to load the homepage of Google it tells me there's no connection when I have full signal strength. Also, what do the colors of the wifi signal bars mean? Sometimes they're gray and other times blue. But I can't see a direct connection between working data and error messages. Sometimes gray works and sometimes it doesn't, same way with the blue bars.
Basically, I am connected to wifi and the data connection comes and goes in a matter of seconds. Last night it worked for an hour or two no problem. It's not my tethering because I updated the app, reverted back to what I had before and even tried another release. My Acer A500, my girlfriend's iphone and ipad, and my ps3 all connect to the network and have no problems. I know it's my tab, I just don't know how to fix it.
I even tried replacing the wpasuplicant, it makes no difference with or without the new one so I just chnaged it back. Plus, the tab has no problem seeing and recognizing the phone's network; it just connects and stops working. It doesn't even tell me I'm disconnected, it shows me being connected even when it doesn't work.
I'm stumped guys, this shouldn't be so difficult. I really like the tab, and I don't want to have to get rid of it. I find it strange that no one else (that I've seen anyways, forgive me if I've missed it) is having this problem. I have seen wifi issues listed on here about not being able to connect, but not dropping out like mine.
Sorry for writing a book, any help is appreciated.
When you're tethering from your phone to your tab, since they are close, the signal between them is strong. This doesn't mean that the 3g speeds that you're getting from the provider to your phone is fast. You're phone might be dropping it's 3g signal. You'll never know it by looking at your tab because as far as it knows, it has a full connection to your phone's wifi.
That's true, I'll keep an eye on it. Right now I have full bars on the phone and it's working fine. But earlier I can't say because I wasn't looking for that.
**EDIT** Nope, that's not it either. It was working for a while and I thought it might be. But now I have full bars of 3G coverage and it says on the tab browser "Data connectivity problem" and "The connection to the server timed out."
I should also mention that I've been tethering from the TB for months and never had an issue with a device getting wifi from it. So that's why I'm so quick to dismiss the phone as the problem.
Do you see the same behavior when connecting to other wifi networks? If so that would eliminate your phone as the issue, and point to either a software or hardware issue on the tab. If you can't... probably the phone.
Boo ****ing hoo JoKu
Try a cable instead of the ***** wi-fi geek connection!

In 20-30 years time we'll all be cancer ridden because of the wi-fi radioation. Too bad, suckers...
HTC does not allow wi-fi tethering from their phones unless it is through your carrier. You have to use Foxfi app and use the bluetooth tether option.
So I've got my Ray for a few months now, but ever since I have problems with the WIFI and GPS connections.
GPS:
I used to use Navigon on my Acer Liquid, but that app doesn't work anymore unless there's an active data connection and I don't have a data plan. Now I use CoPilot Live Premium 8.xxxx. App itself works well, but the GPS signal get's lost every few minutes and I have the feeling this is getting worse. Especially in cities it's posible I have to wait for like 15 minutes to have a signal and after that the signal gets lost every 2 minutes or so. Is this just due to a poor GPS receiver in the Ray or what?
WIFI:
I can connect to my router (WPA2-Personal AES) but only for 2 minutes. After that, the icon in the status bar shows that my Ray is still connected to the router, but there is no internet connection anymore, eg in the market pages keep on loading most of the times without saying the connection is lost or so and I have to turn off WIFI and turn it on again after a minute to have it working again for 2 minutes -_- If I do this a lot, it even kicks my computers of my network and I have to reboot my router
I hear there a quite a few problems with the WIFI in kernel related situations and it's often solved by using a custom ROM, but I would like to stay on stock ROM.
What could be causing this? The router, the WIFI security...? I didn't have the chance to test it on another router, maybe tomorrow.
Any help would be appreciated!
For the wifi, if you could test it on another network, we could know if the problem comes from your phone.
For the GPS, if your phone is rooted, I suggest you this application, with every Android phone I have I use it, and I have a some-seconds signal acquisition. It may fix your problem, but I don't understand its origin.

Thanks for the app tip, I will try it!
Try sygic for navigation. It's free and for now it worked with no problems for me.
I have some problems with wifi too. At home i can connect to the router freely, when using my laptop as router it shuts the laptop down, at friends it restarts his router it almost looks like Ray is to aggressive when connecting.
I looked into the problem again today and finally, I got it working.
The things I did:
1) Router firmware update (Dlink DIR-615)
2) Removed Ray's DHCP settings from the router and added them back manually so it never expires.
(Up till this point I still had the same issues.)
3) Changed the WIFI mode from N and G mixed to N only
=> PROBLEM FIXED
There seem to be a lot Xperia users (especially Arc) with my kind of WIFI problems. This thread was very helpful:

I don't have GPS problem as it connects within 1 min without AGPS support...
But i do face wifi problem especially when downloading larger files >100mb.. It constantly gets disconnected...
The wifi disconnection is genuinely present when i am downloading torrent files... It just kills the connection then connects again... I literally can't download any torrent files especially larger ones like movies etc...didn't have this issue when i had HTC sensation...

Hi, I have problem with Wifi too, but another one. Now, I have this custom rom - CM9 FXP 119 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285977
But wifi isnt working - I can see wifi to connect, but when I hit connect, nothing happens. I have this problem in many custm roms (Jj's, MIUI). I really dont know what to do.. I tried reflash rom, reflash kernel, but nothing helps. Please, help me
I have same problem with wifi. It's connect tot wifi network and in a few seconds iti disappear de wifi and unable to autentifications to wifi. I have RayOniumICS.v5 Rev1 rom and Aire kernel.
So I picked up a Prime today (running 4.0.3), and I'm having a weird issue... I can connect just fine to wifi, everything works properly, except two things:
- My wifi icon is gray. Always. Regardless of where I am, the network I'm connected to, etc.
- Talk doesn't connect. The error is "Connection interrupted -- status updates temporarily unavailable"
I have cleared Market and Talk data. I have removed and re-added my Google account. I don't have PDANet or any other tethering software. I've checked my wifi connection to make sure there is no proxy or anything. My speed is just fine! I've disabled/reenabled Background Sync. Syncs on the Google account work just fine.
I'm at a loss here... HALP?
I'm having this problem too.. did you ever find a solution? anybody else?
Mine does that when Im too far away from the router but it goes blue when i get closer.

I ended up turning off wifi, deleting the files in /system/etc/wifi, and rebooting. Had to re setup my wifi connections, but somehow in restoring a backup (or the ICS upgrade) the saved profiles must have gotten corrupted...

I'm having a similar problem. My icon starts out blue and everything works fine, but then after letting it sit for a while, my icon turns greay. Have not been able to figure it out yet. Pretty frustrating to set your tablet down and 15 minutes later have it stop getting notifications because it's disconnected itself or whatever it is when the icon turns grey.
I have my wifi settings set to always remain on while sleeping.

I tried but didn't work. I think we had different issues. It didn't sound like you could get a connection at all, while I get a connection that goes bad after the tablet has been idle for a while. Turning off/on wifi allows me to reconnect.
My android devices do this typically due to the firewall settings on whatever I am connected to, my wireless at work or example.
TF201 | XDA Premium
That is my assumption as well. I have the same issue but i figured it out. Its all you r wireless settings on the router. I have changed the broadcasting channel and since no more gray antennas. Its all i guess channel interference.

Yeah, different issue. I actually had no problems ever connecting, it just wouldn't sync properly with Google's servers...

I've had that happen before, but in this case it was a constant 100% of the time thing, regardless of firewalls/connection/etc. Just something weird with the wifi profile on the device. I'm more convinced it had to do with restoring HC data after being upgraded to ICS.

I always wondered why my cell phone did the same thing, and in my searches, gray just means that it's not connected to Google's sync service. Now, while I agree with that to an extent.... I too have noticed on my cell phone and Prime (when tethered to my cell), that if either end is gray, I have non-functioning internet. This even happens if I have full bars and HSPA for my data connection. I personally have never noticed this on any of the 3 wireless home routers that I've connected to, however.

Same experience here. Grey typically means you have internet but no google services, but on my prime grey means no internet at all.
I've managed to get my wifi connection stable by using an app in the market called Wifi Keep Alive. I'm not sure if this app has any impact on battery draw in sleep mode, but I didn't notice much of a change after installing it. I left my Prime on all night last night which has always caused the grey icon, but my icon was still blue this morning and internet was functioning
This is most bizzare. My internet on wifi was working fine until last night, but it is not working any longer. Works fine on 3G though. On wifi I am able to see connected devices on the local network and play files off my HTPC but internet browsing, google play store or anything that uses internet has stopped working and times out. All other wifi devices in my home are fine. I have reset the wifi router as well, nothing. Tried to disable and enable wifi on the phone and restarted a few times as well. Cant really put my finger on it.
Any ideas?
I updated to the SG .73 build about 3 days ago. I noticed batter battery life, no where near what I was used to on my GS2 though.
Anyhooo, any ideas guys, I am concerned.

That's unlikely to be your device. Probably the router or something.

I have also messed around with the wifi sleep policy. No issues there. Power saving is also disabled.
Could it be anything else? An app maybe? I will remove the most recent ones and report back. Badass battery monitor was the last one I installed.

Hi, along with that also try to connect to some other router and let us know if the problem persist.
The wifi connection remains active but no internet. Just thought I would add. I will connect to another wifi hotspot. My wife's GS2 tethering and report back.
I assume that you got "limited connectivity" problem.
If my assumption is true then you should try checking in your Wifi router setting, set encryption method to AES. The problem was addressed when I tried doing this and in addition, changed my Wifi channel from auto to a specific channel.
Right, not sure how this all started but like many others my internet connection (More specifically over wifi) just randomly stopped. After a fair bit of reading on both these forums and Sony's own forum, I downloaded and installed an app called WeFi Pro. Somehow this seemed to fix everything and now have a working wifi internet connection again.
Will do some more reading into this but as a fix i'd recommend installing this app. Oh BTW its free so its a win all round!!
Since this problem has not been resolved on other threads where it has been asked, i'll start a new thread for this
I have a Rogers (GSM) EVO 3D.. Got it last month.. On stock RUU and as well as Yoda's ICS ROM (Yoda's Kernel), the wifi automatically keeps turning off and on when its enabled.. tried flashing Stock RUU again but that also is unable to solve this problem..
Can this be a Hardware issue?? any insights plz..
It's definitely not a solution to your problem, but you might try installing Wifi Analyzer which is free from the Play Store to gather more information. WiFi drops can sometimes be attributed to channel conflicts between multiple access points, and that tool will help you see how strong your signal is and what might be interfering.

ramjet73.. thanks a ton.. interesting observation.. my wifi router is placed hardly meters from my desk with almost no blockage is between. normally the signal strength is -85dBM. but when wifi analyzer is switched on it increases to -65dBM(goes down once its closed..
Its currently on Channel 6 and all the channels are with full star ratings.
Only devices attached to my router is a wired desktop, and on wifi a laptop and 2 android phones.
The problem has not occurred while wifi analyzer was switched on.
Will update after further observation.
another option could be to go into you settings and while in the wifi section, hit menu and and go to advanced and check the box for best wireless etc...
That might help as well.

ps - i have stopped using wifi for a day and i mostly keep phone on 2G (main use is whatapp and gmail) the battery life doubled
