How does this ROM compare to LiquidSmooth v3.2 in terms of speed and stability? I just flashed LiquidSmooth v3.2 last night and I'm amazed at battery life and performance. Are they comparable or is one preferred over the other?

I have ran LS as well, I ran into some theme issues and stutterness. If that's even a word. I couldn't seem to get tethering working on LS. Also some other minor glitches. As of right now Vanir ROM appears to be more polished and snappy as all can be. I didn't run LS long enough to test the battery so I have no report on that. Oh also with restoring some apps on TB It would just not install which was frustrating but not a deal breaker by no means. So in the end it's up to the user. I'll be using Vanir for a while it appears.
This is 'merica and and in 'Merica we speak english and ask questions. I dont want tolive in rainbow land you cant make me livr in rainbow land. So get an american rom you commie.

Anyone experiencing odd operation of the stock dialer? For me the keypad won't appear the first time I select it, either direct in the dialer app it during a call. Have to go to a different screen and select it again to get it to appear. And this is every time I open the dialer, not just once per boot. Only bug I've experienced.

Solved my own issue. So the deal is, I had disabled all the animation scales in Settings >> Display & Lights >> Animation Control. For the dialer to operate properly they have to be set to at least 0.25x. Also, I had to go into the App Manager and force quit Dialer, clear cache and data, and then it worked. Apparently, it's a bug with the AOSP dialer.

Just downloaded this and I am now waiting for my battery to get a little charge before flashing but..... Does ART work on this ROM? Also I am running CM right now and the phone is not going into a deep sleep. How is the battery on Vanir?

Rom report
Waze is FC'ing on startup from a TB restore, a clean uninstall/install and it works.
Plex is working
Disney movies is not working (either stalls or quits playback immediately)
Amazon video is working
Netflix is working fine
I had the same Play store issue when I flashed both in the same 'transaction', but I just re-flashed the GApps file and it was working fine.
Is there any chance of getting quick circle like functionality, as well as split screen?

Understand, I always keep them off as well. But, it's not the ROM's fault, it's an AOSP bug.
Calendar sync doesn't work for my exchange or gmail
Just select the animator duration scale. I selected .5 duration and it worked perfectly!
android device id for the play store changed.
Ive' tested all jasmine, cm, liquid roms, and none of them changed that android device except aosp. titanium backup noticed this during a restore asked me if I wanted to revert back to the old one, I said okay. wondering if this was something other people were experiencing or if it was something I may have done wrong. (wondering if my phone now has my droid bionic android device id) Another question is if I restore an old Nandroid backup will it go back to what is stored in the backup image.

Afaik, the issue may well be that OEM apps usually have some file dependencies that are built into the stock (in this case, LG) ROMs. AOSP is designed to be a much more "vanilla Android" experience than a stock rom, and doesn't include all those extra dependencies that music player requires. As such, if you're set on that music player you'll probably have to be content with LG's stock version of Android, otherwise there are some viable contenders in the app store that should work. The simplicity of that music player app is nice though, imho. Sorry this probably doesn't help as much as you'd wish!

it works but can not distinguish between wireless and plug in so you don't get a pop up stating "wireless charging connected" I really diddn't verify if the battery level went up but the lightning bolt on the battery presented itself for the minute I had it on.

Well I'm on cm 11 and it says it's charging but it actually doesn't... I'm just assuming this is a problem with all aosp roms

can't flash Vanir
Hey guys quick question, I'm having a really hard time flashing this ROM. Whenever I try to flash it gives me an error and flash fails. I've downloaded the files twice, wipe all the usual stuff clean flash but no go. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've had no issues flashing Jasmine, liquid smooth, and various other ROMS on different devices but I'm at aloss on this one.
I really wanna try this ROM out, can somebody point me in the right direction? Has anyone else had any issue?
Lastly, I wanna thank all the devs that put all their time and effort into these ROMS. You guys are awesome!!!!

So maybe it's a aosp thing... The one glitch I didn't mention was I have to plug my device into the radio in my truck in order to play music through my speakers. When on stock roms even of it's a crummy music player the the headphone jack works perfect. With aosp the connections is iffy or non existent. Maybe just a bug? I'm gonna try a complete reinstall tomorrow and see what happens. Theme in advance for your insight ohlin5.

(Optional) Use TitaniumBackup to backup your apps+data
Use Recovery to Backup your current state (System, Data, Boot)
Flash a Sense ROM of any kind (I use MeanBean)
(Don't forget to do your wipes, of course)
*Once booted into a Sense ROM*
Make sure your GPS is turned ON and open up Google Maps
Wait for your GPS to lock
Reboot into Recovery and Restore your Backup

Some kernels have a voltage script provided by the builder. Ask the developer if there is one available.
You can also download Kernel Tuner from the Play Store to change voltage.
Q: Voltage? Kernel Tuner? What now...?
A: Within' Kernel Tuner you will want to go into Voltage and use the "All +12.5 mV" which will up the Voltage in all areas. I found that having 192MHz at 900mV will make CM10.1 plenty stable while not affecting battery life significantly. ROM and Kernel may very. Do some Trial and Error to see what is suitable for you

I've been using CM 10.1 ever since it first came out .I love it but the only problem i got is the terrible battery life I've been experiencing .It has gotten lot worst over time now my phone barely last a couple of hours per charge.Is there any advice you can give me to get better battery life?
ive done clean and dirty installs to find a solution but still get the same result and i've never use another kernel with the ROM. The best battery life i've experience with my phone was with stock rom when i used to get 24hrs on one charge .i'm seriously thinking about going back to stock but i love CM10.1

That is pretty weird. I had that problem on the EVO 3D before. Were you or are you using any custom kernel, kernel tuner, or scripts at all?
I know, too, that the battery does seem to drain a bit fast at first but then it gets more subtle. MeanBean has been draining me worse than CM10.1 right now.

Im not using anything extra,just the ROM as is . Also tried MeanBean got about 5 to 6 hours on one charge but still isnt anywhere close to 24 hrs on one charge with stock ROm

MeanBean has never treated me well on battery life no matter what I do. Not on my replacement anyway. On my other LTEvo it was working great. But... CM10.1's battery life shouldn't be that bad. Could always use Kernel Tuner to manage the CPU and Gov. a bit. Trial and error until you find a satisfied combination. I generally use Ondemand as opposed the interactive. I noticed Ondemand gave me better battery life. Haven't done much with the CPU speeds in a while so I'm not going to be too much help there... I also use System Panel to monitor apps, system, memory, and use its built-in task killer.

How to disable shutter sound?
In older versions of CM there used to be an option in system settings to disable the shutter sound in the camera app. I can't seem to find any options either in the camera settings or in the system settings for this in CM10.1. Anyone know if this is there or not? Or is it coming in a future version?

The only thing I noticed going wrong was my background will occasionally disappear (go black). Sometimes it will pulsate or strobe. Only happens when I sleep the phone while in Messages, and wake the phone. After unlocking, the background will either be black, be black for a while and all of the sudden pop my background image back up, or just act normal. I have no customizations or anything so I'm not sure why this occurs. Otherwise, the Vertical orientation option for the App Drawer is still messy as it always has been. That's all I've noticed but I haven't tested the music player yet .

Power Shutter? If so, that's in the Camera app settings. Click the bottom-right screen-button and choose the bottom-center settings screen-button. I also have apps that'll randomly open when I wake the phone but I figured that was just because of the phone being in my pocket, turning on, and going to the app. It will open to the clock.

Actually, not referring to Power-Shutter. I'm referring to the actual sound that is made when you take a photo. It's a bit jarring/annoying to have it "dleep!" when I take photos. Back in CM7 I remember that we could turn that sound off.

only issue ive been getting since the 4/13 buld and as well as the 4/16 build is my phone fcs when someone calls. really annoying. especially since not even running a kernel only stock . and have done a few full wipes and clean installs. been diving me nuts

When I flashed CM 10.1 the only thing that worked was power button and volume. The screen was unresponsive, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm s-off hboot 2.09

And as you'll find stated numerous times: the latest touchpanel firmware isn't yet supported with most, if not all, AOSP ROM's. S-OFF, which will make you downgrade, and you'll be able to use your AOSP ROM's. And then you can update to the latest firmware minus the tp update.

Thinking of taking the plunge but not fully comfortable with The way we have to flash LG roms. Used to Samsung, can I wipe data and factory reset in recovery or just make a backup and restore 11c if the data is flakey???

This is amazing, one great first lollipop build. Most of my issues had easy fixes and I can live without some other things. Now all I want is xposed to be updated to run on ary and I'll be awesome.
Just flashed seems to be very snappy. Can confirm moto 360 with smart unlock works! Facebook works fine for me. However SD card won't read probably because its formatted exfat. Had the data bug upon reboot. But just rebooted and it was fine again. MMS works and so does GPS. Overall a very good first build

you may need to format sd card to fat32. same aosp roms wont mount exfat.

Same here. also, I'm having problems staying connected to WiFi.
It seems like if I have the screen off too long it loses WiFi connection. (could be a coincidence with the screen off) I go back I to WiFi settings and reconnect to the network.
So far, so good.
For a first build, this is running remarkably well. I HAVE to give it up to the dev team, notably ivisiblek, and Codefire and the Bump! team for making this all possible, and furthermore for working so diligently and quickly just so we could all have a little more fun with our devices.
That being said, for the sole purpose of hopefully helping solve issues in further builds, here are the bugs I've experienced:
Major:
Random reboots. This is to be expected, but still.
Data is flaky. It works for the most part, but after crashes, device will often start up with no working 4G or data of any kind. Rebooting normally usually fixed it.
Device seems to be running warmer than usual.
Minor:
Cannot play video. Device resets upon trying to play a video file in Chrome or Snapchat. No other apps tested but it can be assumed that for the most part videos will result in a crash.
Gesture typing on the AOSP keyboard doesn't work. I don't know if this is a localized issue or a build issue. I tried downloading the Google Keyboard to combat this, but experienced a crash every time I tried to open Google Keyboard. Regular typing on AOSP keyboard works fine.
EDIT: Also, for those experiencing any problem playing music through Google Play or Apollo or whatever music player, go into Dev Settings and switch from "Nu Player" back to "Awesome Player".
Loving It.
From what I've noticed:
Flashed with TWRP and all went well. (Don't get mad at OP if it doesn't work for you).
ROM is gorgeous...only slightly buggy, which is incredible.
Individual contact view FC's from outside Contacts app. i.e. when clicking contact picture in Messages.
APN + Network select fixes data
NuPlayer option change fixes Music
Usable as DD thus far.
Fantastic work...looking forward to future releases.

Messaging would not send messages and the interface setting kept FC. Restored back to Vanir.
Newest build has the interface settings working now. For messaging, I use textra and I know a lot of roms had problems with the stock messenger for a while so 3rd party messaging apps are working as far as I know

Hangouts should work fine for SMS/MMS. That way your mags are always backed up to Google and are available in any internet enabled device you can log into google on.

I've not flashed any lollipop ROMs yet. I need my phone working reliably for business, so I've been waiting for one (or more) stable and bug-free enough to be a daily driver. It looks like that time may be here.
One quick question. If I flash Bliss, and want to go back, can I just restore a stock (LG) KitKat nandroid? Or will I need to reflash the modem or anything else?

Yep, you can just go back to a nandroid backup (or flash a stockish ROM). No extra steps.

Yes this happened to me... Cut in and out and eventually stopped completely.

Something weird happen. I was in the taco bell app turned on the GPS and when the app started to use the GPS the phone crashed with this white text on black background saying restart phone. Been trying to recreate it but no luck.

Yup, I got that white text on black background saying restart phone as well. It actually is a kernel crash. If it keeps happening while you use the taco bell app, then maybe switch roms? hahaha, not sure how to help but I hope it doesn't happen anymore.
That same thing happened to me and I was scared so I just flashed back to zv6 rooted.
Been running Blisspop v1.7 for about 4 days now, very very happy with how stable and fluid this ROM is. ??
Fell in love with Blisspop since v1.2, v1.7 feels so official. Quick remote works great, and so does viper4android, very thankful for all the hard work. Donations will be given when I get paid ??
So I have to clean install 1.8 if I'm using 1.7?
Anyone have trouble with Bluetooth headphones? Mine keeps skipping and I'll have my phone in my hand. I love the Rom but cant listen to music :/

Yes it seems to be buggy with Bluetooth. Its constantly going on and off in my car and it annoys the crap out of me but other than that and the email issues, this ROM is AWESOME. I got an email app and a camera app. Smooth sailing!!!

Torch working for me. Google camera from play store works as a replacement for the broken stock camera.

GPS still isn't working
I dirty flashed from 1.8 to 2.0 but the gps still doesn't work.
edit: i used the gps tool box app and actually it works now, but it still takes a long time to lock onto GPS, anyway thanks for this rom!

Agreed, GPS locks seem slow. Might be what we are stuck with given the cm12 fix.
Havent been on any other gproj ROMs to compare.
Google camera
Does all functions work in the google camera (panorama, photo sphere and lens blur)? Right now I'm using CM12 official with Solid Kernel and only regular photo and video is working.

Sure, go and find something not working why don't you.
I hadn't tried any of them. Sphere and pano only show black screens, apparently not working. Lens blur is functional

Actually, that's a problem with all the lollipop roms that I have tried for the e970 (and most of the KK, except for some the MAKO based). Seems that our camera is quite difficult to please....
BTW dandrumheller, it seems that you have tried most of the roms out there for our device, which one did you find more stable? At the time I'm using the official CM12 with Solid Kernel and in my opinion is really good (except for the camera and the bluetooth address, which aren't dealer breakers for me). Thanks.

I actually haven't tried many of the Lp roms. Candy5 has been the most stable and battery efficient for me. Had some issues with bsod on beanstalk 5.0, though 4.4 versions were excellent. Blisspop has been quite stable, but uninspiring in terms of battery life. My phone hates solid kernel - tons of freeze and crash issues. In general I seem to have better luck with mako based roms. Have not tried CM12 yet.

I'm having an issue where the contact names aren't showing up in the stock messenger, or gosms (haven't tried at other). The full number shows, but never the names. I've tried clearing caches and data on contacts and messengers. Tried resyncing the contacts from Google. I've double checked the privacy guard settings. Basically, I've searched around and tried everything I can think of, but still no luck! So I figured I'd ask the experts! Any ideas???
Ive noticed a few other minor issues. ...
I've had the problem with not being able to move the download, as someone mentioned above. Ive had to connect to PC, transfer from phones internal storage to the PC, then back to EXT SD card in the phone.
The 2/13 build does seem to be a little harder on the battery, and runs a lil warm (also mentioned above). I haven't had any crashing issues, but can feel the temp difference over the average.
Possibley related to the heat and battery issues; I noticed that there are two interfaces for the CPU/GPU clocking and scheduling, under the Performance section of System Settings. Maybe there's a conflict happening there? From memory, I don't remember the "Device Control" section being there in the previous build. It seems redundant to have both. Although Device Settings is much more robust, and I would prefer it be integrated instead of keeping the old, minimal interface. Some adjustments to Device Settings, while disabling the other minimal settings on boot, seems to have helped with heat and battery drain a little bit.
No problems with GPS, that I've noticed
Titanium Backup v6 has problem gaining root access in all cm12 ROMs I've tried. To fix, go to Titanium BU Preferences, scroll to bottom, select Troubleshoot Options (or something like that), and highlight/select the option to force the app to use the SYSTEM busybox, not the one baked into Titanium BU. Restart the app, and root works. Also worth mentioning is that you may have to enable root access under Developer Options in System Settings before any app can gain root. Otherwise, no issues with root, or Super SU.

After using Beanstalk 4.4 for several months, finally I tried first LP based ROM BlissPop...so far it seem good, only couple of crashes in last week, few issues are present that are highlighted already (like camera panorama not working...battery life affected).
Since last couple days, the strange issue is being encountered, when i get a call, phone rings but there is no interface to receive the call, i then have to go to call screen and there it says "return to the active call" when i click, i get to the screen where i can receive the call. This started happening without any updates so not sure what caused it? I even tried latest version of ROM but same issue present.
Any ideas?
P.S: thanks to everybody who contributes to this excellent site, i have been a regular reader of the site but got to post something today for the first time.

Okay, it turned out to be a feature that some one must have activated on my cell (my little kiddo likes to tinker with my cell)
In App Notification section, Dialer was blocked and that was causing it to not show up whenever i got a call.

system control issue
I went through all 9 pages of the thread and didnt notice anyone else having this issue. In 2.2 under performance and then system control app when one goes to features and then vibration intensity it just force closes on me...is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions on what I can do to fix?
So I'd like to see what was being discussed in the normal thread for this great rom but the following link isn't working and since I'm a forum baby I'm not allowed to post in the grownup thread... Can anyone help me out with this? Does anyone check this side of the thread?

Also, the last build(the one before latest) ... The vibration control in performance>device control was fixed and working.... In the latest build it's broken once again and force closing every time I select it. Just wanted to mention in case no one is aware of it.
So if 4.8.15 is the latest build why does the ota update app found in the app drawer ask me to update to the latest version so my configuration will be appropriate for ota updates? Is there something specific I have to do in order for that feature to work properly?

It contained the free app that allowed you to do all kinds of different things with the phone...I forget what it was called....I know part of the file name was x.nameless rom.com
You can try kenvinjoa kernel or nitro kernel
Does this build allow encryption?
Can everyone post a list of stable roms for I717? I don't like going through the trouble of backing up all my data and flashing a new rom only to have it crash multiple times per day and have something like bluetooth not work reliably at all. Maybe some people enjoy playing with that (a lot of the most popular roms at the top of the forum are like this), but I don't!
I'll start the list and say that Beanstalk 4.4 is extremely stable, only had it reset on me twice in one year, and bluetooth works 100%. Only issue is that you can't move apps to SD so you run out of space quick (thanks to kitkat). I'd love to find something above kitkat this stable...
And I'll add some that I have tried and failed:
Candy5: No matter what Gapps I tried (yes pico etc), none of them installed and even after going through every suggestion in the thread I could not get a simple google play installed. Stock browser crashes every 2 minutes.
Pac-rom: Promising but crashes 10+ times per day. Often does not power on unless you boot into recovery and select reboot. GPS is terrible, google maps often loses it's place and gives turn-by-turn directions 60 seconds too late. Stock browser crashes all the time as well.
CM: Bluetooth reliability is terrible. Quincyatt not updated since 2014.
Sounds like you should stick with beanstalk or return the device to stock. When you rooted your device, it opened up security issues so it'll never be as solid as you'd like. What hasn't been updated since 2014?

CM for I717.
I don't like going back to stock because IMO it's less secure (heartbleed is a pretty big security hole). If you leave root access disabled and don't download shady apps a custom rom isn't any more insecure.

I don't know what website you're looking at for this SGH-I717 but I can promise you that I personally have kept this phone alive with many updates this year my friend!!! Google my username if you can't find anything on xda? Surely you've used the search button?

Yes, I tried every suggestion in the thread and it still didn't work. After trying pac-rom for a couple days (and having it crash 20+ times) I just tried wiping it and flashing candy again, and now Gapps with google play worked the first time with no troubleshooting. Shrug.
Seems rock-solid so far though. Can't post in that thread since I have too few posts, so one question, if I do the OTA download for the new 4.0, can I just flash it on top of my 3.9 version or do I need to wipe everything and start over? Also, under Settings, Apps, if I click an app and move to SD card, it will sit there and say "moving" forever. If I exit settings and come back sometimes the app will actually show moved to SD list though.
And the stock calendar app doesn't seem to let me log in, it says "Sign in to get the most out of your device". Then I enter the email I've always used and it says "This account already exists on your device." But there's no other way to actually select that account. What am I doing wrong?

Don't do the OTA yet since BB won't let me upload my roms. The ota notification is a fluke. You'll have to flash the rom fresh between trying to find the right gapps which will work on your device. Candy is the most stable of all my builds currently.

Still can't post in the main thread but:
-If you turn on "Directly show pattern view", nothing shows on the lock screen besides the dots (time, weather, owner info, notifications).
-I had the dreaded bluetooth bug happen the other day, do you get many reports of this? (bluetooth stops working while streaming music, and does not turn back on until a phone reset).
-Stock calendar cannot be logged into (edit: just installed the google calendar from the app store which worked fine)
Unfortunately these are all deal breakers for me but I really like the rom otherwise, I don't want to switch back
Any way to enable HDMI output? (I have the adapter which worked before).

Must be on stock based rom and that being said, not all of those work. I know Saurom, Blackstar Blackjelly and OnlyOne Goldie work.

I heavily utilize the "Move to SD card" option because otherwise the default storage doesn't hold more than 10 or so apps, but I've had a problem with Candy5 twice now where my phone will crash, and upon reboot, all the apps that were moved to SD card are gone. Anyone else encounter this?

Installed the latest Candy5 20151031, did a complete wipe of everything per the instructions, and after installing 1 app (gmail), the phone reboot the first time gmail opened while placing the gmail widget down.
Here's a list of ROMs I've tested:
BlackSTAR XI - Best ROM for the i717. Super stable and fast.
CM Official - Good, but very buggy. SD card breaks, phone reboots often, HW overlays, etc.
Padawan - Not much new here, just a simple modded version of stock. Very stable but not too fast.
Candy5 - Very laggy, as LP is still in development for i717.
CM11 Unofficial - A bit laggy, HW overlays.
All in all I'm a huge fan of BlackSTAR XI, best ROM I've seen so far.
