Tapping 2 times to wake the device vs battery consumption. - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Is anyone of you has tried this function and noticed a bigger consumption of the battery?
Thanks for feedback.
Regards

I use the feature and i still have great standby power usage. I'll attach screenshots of my battery usage and screen on time.

Yes, I also use the feature and have great time on battery.
But do you think this feature consume more battery than if you don't use it ?
I can't make me an opinion about that. One time I think it doesn't consume more and on the next charge I think it consume more.
Rather difficult for me to be sure about that...
Anyway, if it consume more it seems to be very light.

Well yes it definitely uses more battery than if you turn the feature off. The standby usage from the feature is quite minimal though. As you can see in the screenshot, my standby battery drain is almost non existent. I've used the feature on other devices with custom ROMs and the drain was far worse. Sony's implementation of the Double Tap to Wake is the best that I've seen, even better than the LG G2/3 and HTC M8.

70% battery use of display

I've had the 3vo since launch and lately my battery does hella fast. Whenever I check to see what has been using my battery it always says 60%+ screen and never 10%+ of anything else. I always have brightness dimmed and screen timeout at 30 seconds. Any ideas?

i know what u mean, i had the same problem but it eventually improved a bit for whatever reason. I think the main culprit is actually a wake lock thats causing the ****ty battery, not the display itself. Do you also have a high awake time?
The display usage being that high is actually a good thing. It means none of your other components are draining your battery excessively. The screen uses how much it is going to use and can't really run in the background and kill the battery like the cell standby, media server, and android OS could. I get great battery life, during a 10 hour shift at work my battery drops maybe 30% if I'm getting a lot of missed emails, calls, text. My display usage is 85%.
A thing to consider is that this is a percentage of battery use, not a microvolt value, so it's not really that useful for diagnosis just identification. One thing you could do is click each item listed and compare time on and CPU times listed.
Do you actually let the screen timeout every time or do you manually turn it off? Do you spend a lot of time using the 3D feature?
Basically if your phone is dying fast and display is the highest consumer, it is probably dying fast because you are using your phone a lot.
It simply means that your actually using your phone. People with 30 display is pretty much sleep sleep sleep. I get about 3-4 hours of onscreen usage.

I had one device that would drain way quick...same situation as you, with only a couple hours screen-on time. 70%+ display usage...
I took it back and forced their hand to give me a new one.
It has been working a lot better, I still use the phone just as much but it lasts much longer. It may have been a defective battery but it's probably easier to just exchange the whole device.
Good luck.

oh yes, the old 'return it' solution. lol fail
I'm pretty well versed with most diagnostic techniques to pin down what was eating the battery; believe me I tried all of it.
Sleep time was good, no apps sucking cpu cycles.
When the display was draining 30% battery per hour I figured it was a faulty display or faulty battery. Easiest solution within 30 days was to exchange.
The new one works great.

[Q] Display literally destroying battery life

So across all roms I have tried the display literally destroys the battery life of my phone. While the screen is off I get fine battery life. But when the screen is on I can watch my percentage decrease about 2-3% every minute so after a half hour of browsing my battery is gone.
I have an extended battery as well but that just prolongs it slightly. The brightness is about half right now. Is this normal?
Does not sound Normal but display is the largest user of battery( unless one can use the phone with display off
I had as video streaming yesterday for 30+ min from 80% it went to 14%
haven't tried keeping just display on should try that ...test for tomorrow

I have my brightness set to 15% and it still sucks about half of my battery use. The display is unfortunately nearly unstoppable when it comes to battery drain. HTC and others are like "BIG PHONE DISPLAY!!!1!111!" we're all like "I can haz batteries?"
That description is the best description of our issue.
But an answer to your question, drop you brightness to as low as you can stand it and if possible try to limit the amount of times you wake the display in a day the juice it requires to turn it on is greater than it needs to sustain the screen on.
I would say yes for the most part. We have a fantastic and power hungry display...the price for greatness?
That being said, its not so bad dropped down to 25% or so, and easily viewable, except if you're outside.

Alright thanks. I just wanted to make sure my phone wasn't experiencing something that is atypical. Other than that I do love this phone and the developers
It's hard to say. With screen on I loose about 1% a minute even with auto-brightness turned off and the screen at around 25%.
There are others on the forum that have made rather amazing battery life claims so it may come down the the individual device.
I have debated about returning mine for a different one to see if I get any better performance.

I'm not sure I would bother chasing longer battery life with new devices. A lot of those are very optimized use cases -- either all on wifi, all in areas with great signal, or lots of screen on time but they don't mention what brightness. The fact of the matter is the phone has a tiny battery and uses up a lot of power for the display and radios. I get somewhere between 12-16 hours on a stock battery, depending on where I am and how much I use the phone (generally I'm a pretty light user, but I do leave 4G and Bluetooth on all day).

NFC Battery Drain

I have seen different ROM's Stock and Custom have NFC on or off by default. When NFC is on the battery drain is quite a bit more, even when the phone is off (screen not on). I was wondering from developers if NFC could be turned off when screen is not on? For security reasons this would make sense too. If it does turn NFC off while screen is off, then why would idle battery drain be so much more siginifant when NFC is on vs off...
I can leave my phone idle for hours and still have 100%-98% when I open at lunch...but if NFC is on that may be much higher drain.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this topic.
Tasker would probably work for automatically turning NFC on or off based on the criteria you set. Be warned though, the learning curve on that app can be rather steep.

Battery life - discussion

How are people finding this huge 5000mah battery?
In all honesty, I was expecting a little better performance. Perhaps it's still too early to tell but I'm on my 3rd battery cycle, have "balanced" battery mode active, power saving feature applied to most apps other than essentials, don't have Facebook installed etc. Have rooted and also Universal Doze for magisk installed.
I'm currently on 10% with 5hr30min SOT. Granted, I have been listening to Spotify today but over WiFi.
Just doesn't seem to be blowing me away and not feeling like my battery is 25% bigger than my previous Xperia 1 ii, with the exact same setup/general usage. If anything feels the same size, maybe even less?!
Used BetterBatteryStats and nothing seems out of place there.
Will continue to monitor. Still extremely happy with this phone.
Hmm so quick update, I had Dual WiFi (blend of 2g/5ghz network) enabled previously however today it's now disabled.
I'm currently on 45 mins SOT and still at 97% battery!!
Anyone else any experience with this? I haven't changed any apps but seems this setting may have been the cause of high drain for me....
Will continue to monitor....
My battery life has been pretty good after a few cycles
Not bad. I keep it on mobile data most of the time. And i charge it only to 90% with a 500mAh charger. And i do have Facebook app, a Garmin smart watch and many synced accounts that run in the background
Not bad at all IMO. Received the phone today and it was at around 40 percent. Haven't charged yet. Refresh rate is on auto.

Are you more satisfied with the ZenFone 7 than with the Xperia 1 II?
How does the loudspeaker compares?
Im in doubt between the two.

Overall, yeah I'm very happy with this phone.
Comparing the two:
- the speakers were better on the Xperia, front facing always wins as avoids you accidentally covering the bottom firing one up on the Zenfone plus the top earpiece one isn't great. But, it's still good enough and they sound decent to keep me happy
- the less wider feel on the Xperia was also very nice but I really don't mind the feel of the zenfonr
- the camera on the Xperia was very good, but I just didn't feel like I was amazed by the point and click usage. Which I know it was really aimed for Pro users, but still....
- for the Zenfone I love the feel of it. A very fast phone, great camera, I'm a big fan of the flip camera, very good selfies (more concerned about video calls as the Xperia has a horrible smoothening effect which they didn't fix)
-the led on the Xperia was very nice whereas there's not as many colours on the Zenfone
Ultimately one of the biggest factors for me is rom and gcam development. It was virtually non existent for the Xperia but I enjoy it too much to sacrifice it. Already there is a decent gcam for zenfone and havoc & omnirom are being worked on
So I guess it boils down to what matters the most to you. Both very good options to be honest!
My first cycle from 100% down to 0% (won't be doing this often). Auto refresh, mainly on wifi (95%), AOD off, balanced profile. Not bad > 7 hour SOT.
Edit: don't know why PNG screenies aren't working with attachments :/

Auto refresh rate as I said.
I'm gonna try turning wifi off and see how long the SOT is from 100%-0% using just 4G (5G is off as my carrier doesn't support it).
Might try forcing 90Hz on a separate occasion too.
5 hr 53 min SOT ON dual sim 4G only.
battery life is good. not as good as zen 6. However its a all day phone. Charges really fast. Fastest charge so far.
90Hz is noticeable.. Keep your NFC , Bluetooth and especially Location off to save allot more battery..
Overal the phone is a winner .. only major peoblem.. I cant seem find ANY info to get 4g or even 5g here in USA> I thin this phone is NOT compatible for USA cell bands.. I even brought it to att store and they couldnt ge it to work past 3g.
This battery could be better, Asus need optimize better the kernel. I have bad performance on game Genshin impact (drop frames) and bad standby, 6h it goes 3,5%, on my motorola edge plus it goes 1% with the same condition.
I had pretty bad standby at first but then I disabled all battery optimizations and got great standby. I think "Optiflex" was the cause of it. Just turn it off.

Are you on Balanced profile still? And is Adaptive Battery enabled or disabled? Optiflex is meant to "saves battery on standby" too lol

The only battery saving setting I still have enabled is "hibernate apps" under battery settings. Optiflex, adaptive battery, detect battery-draining apps all off. Using balanced power settings but I'm mostly on 90Hz.

From using about 1% per hour to about 2% in 8 hours sleep. Check your APN also, I've seen some mention the phone does not use the right one automatically.
Going from the Zenfone 6 to this Zenfone 7, there is certainly a slight drop in battery endurance. The better chipset/hardware etc I don't feel explains the difference but it won't put me off the phone.
Just wish phone batteries would massively improve!

Question Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5g Battery life ?

Hello.. Can someone who knows about battery draining give some help? I ve got this phone a week or so and I think the battery drains kinda fast. I'm not sure. I used to have Xiaomi Note 9s with a super battery. I m uploading a few screenshots . Is it drains fast?? Or all looks normal? Thanks in advance
That is normal battery life for this phone. In fact it looks pretty good.
Thanks for your reply
On my phone there is always Android System consuming a lot of battery, almost like Screen. I don't know if that's normal. On a REDMI 9 of a friend Android System is almost consuming nothing
@Primal.pr28 the cpu behaviour is setup to react to user action, rather than anticipate user action. If reacting to user actions is priority, then you want to react to the user action as quickly as possible (phone = smooth). This is not efficient. It means that even the smallest actions may require processing speeds greater than necessary. With better optimization you could get at least 25% more usage of your device at no cost of performance. Consider switching battery saver mode on by default forever as well, don't think you lose much performance.
Yesterday I used phone literally from 100-0%, and I noticed strange thing, the reading that it reported as consumed power by the screen was ~48% but it says something like 1300mAh. So obviously totally incorrect. If the battery is 4250mAh, then half of it should be around 2100mAh, not 1300.

It's not percent of the battery capacity that is displayed. It's percent of all things like hardware & software usage put together including system and apps.

Do you use your phone for more than 24h?? Xiaomi is showing only last 24h battery stats.
I'm having the same problem, 12.5.5.0, I heard 12.0.8.0 is more battery friendly?
Same here, insanely bad battery life with 12.5.5, dont understand why, android system is using more than 25%.
Look at this horor, pls

18% overnight !
12.5.5 is same as 12.5.3, most resources are consumed by screen, sometimes buggy Google app "Carrier services". Around 10% overnight battery consumption, phone lasts about 45-50 hours (light use, web browsing, work profile, emails, Whatsapp, constant synchronization of private and work apps on).
