Hello everyone,
I have 16gb device, and I'm using Folder Mount to deal with the storage space issue. but I remember reading something about expanding the phone's internal storage using SD card, meaning that apps would be installed directly on the SD card. I also read that it is possible to swap the internal storage with the SD card so that the OS sees the card as internal memory and treat it as such. I tried to find up to date information on the subject but I'm not able to.
I'm wondering if this is still applicable on Android 4.4.2. And if it is, could you give me some pointers on what do I need to search for (current method or apps) as I'm a total newbie regarding Android.
Thanks in advance
Anyone??
You can do it using link2sd . you should first partition your ext sd card.

Okay so Link2sd still works.
May I ask, does Link2sd directly install NEW apps on the ext partition, or installs them on internal memory and then move them to the ext partition?
Also, is Link2sd method is the most efficient method to date?
Thanks
Link2sd does not directly install apps on sd card partition. You have to link the app file, library file etc manually by opening link2sd. However you can set it to automatically link your newly installed apps in the setting.Linking can move the app file ,library file etc to ext2,ext3,fat or whatever partition your sytem supports and significantly increases free internal memory.
There is another method without using link2sd .You can search the thread. As for efficiency link2sd method work fine on my device.

I made a 1GB partition on my 8GB micro SD using cmw. I move the apps to the SD but not all the data is moved. For example, I have an app that's about 10MB, I move it to SD and there's still about 5MB left on the internal memory. Doesn't happen with all apps but that little extra memory adds up.
Is there a way to fully move the app and everything to do with it to the SD card? Most of my apps are installed on the SD but there's still a lot of internal memory being used up. I also read about a way to force the apps to SD. After I tried searching for it, I couldn't find it. Can someone help me on both questions please?
Summary; what I'm asking is, What is wrong with how the apps are being installed on the SD? How can I force non-moveable apps to the SD? Is there a way to move all the app data to the SD?
The app I'm using is apps2sd free. https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hMHNvZnQuZ3Bob25lLmFwcDJzZCJd Or is there any other app you guys recommend?
EDIT: I just installed Link2SD and it just said that only 16MB are being used on my 2nd patition. What is going on? I thought all my apps were installed externally? I'm so confused :/
Even i have same problem

If you want the entire app to be housed within the sd card then you should be using a2sd by Darktremor.
see if u r using link2sd , it links .apk , dex and lib files.....
and also install all apps on INTERNAL MEMORY then link them.... that way they will use your ext partition...... and check link automatically in link2sd....... apps will continue to use some internal memory but that was minimal when i used it.........
So if I link them, they get stored in the internal memory right? Then what's the point of linking them? And when they're moved to the sd card, why don't they get moved to the 2nd partition? Which one saves more space, linking them or moving them to the sd?

See now u hav 3 storages : Internal , EXt, and ur remaining SD card memory... since u already alotted 1 gb for apps .... thn why to move your apps to sd ?? just link them with the help of link2sd.....they will then occupy ur ext partition.... ( though apps data will be still on internal) ....
and also like you link few apps and expect to see a rise in internal memory.... you wont see rise until you reboot... wither quick reboot from link2sd or full reboot....
Hello!
Im sure that i'm not the first person who post this, but i can't find a similar thread with a good answer.
The most threads like this go like this:
"Person A: OMG! My internal sd is almost full! How can i move apps to the External Sd card?
Person B: Go to apps and move to sd
Person C: No, thats not correct, you only move the apps to the internal sd and not to the External sd."
End Of thread
So I ask it here and hope i get a answer that's really useful:
I just moved to the S2, and i installed some awesome apps from gameloft.
But Gameloft's games (and other 3d games) are pretty huge! I only have 2 gb left on my Internal SD (Usb-Storage).
Soon i will get a 16 Gb Sd card from samsung, but how can i move apps or their data to the External sd? The only app i know that can be moved to Ext. Sd is Spotify.
Is there a mod or rom that allows you to move to Int. memory, Int. Sd and Ext. Sd?
Or is it mayby Possible to rename the Ext. Sd card to for ex. Android or Downloads?
If its not possible to move apps to Ext. SD, what can i do with the Ext. Sd?
And Why gives samsung a 16 gb card if you can't move apps to it? Could they not better give a 32gb Sgs2?
Thanx in advance!
Btw,
If this Question gets a good answer if it is possible or not,
can the moderator make this a sticky thread?
That wil save some time from the ppl who just get a Sgs2!
(I really searched some days before i posted this)

What you are looking for is not supported by any Android system sofar, that to install the apps on external SD ,
But android is allowing you to create an additioan system partition which called "SD-Ext" on your internel SD card which enables such phones which are having very low system memory.
"SD-ext" is defined as:
sd-ext
This is not a standard Android partition, but has become popular in the custom ROM scene. It is basically an additional partition on your SD card that acts as the /data partition when used with certain ROMs that have special features called APP2SD+ or data2ext enabled. It is especially useful on devices with little internal memory allotted to the /data partition. Thus, users who want to install more programs than the internal memory allows can make this partition and use it with a custom ROM that supports this feature, to get additional storage for installing their apps. Wiping this partition is essentially the same as wiping the /data partition – you lose your contacts, SMS, market apps and settings.
But unfortunatly any of the current SGS2 ROMs are not supporting to do this.
the maximum you can do is what JJE has recommended.
Aww.....
I forgot to thank you for your post.
Thanks!
Will this be supported by any rom? Soon?

Move GameLoft data to External SD
Just found this app as I was wondering the same thing, and the app works treat. GL to SD is what you want, and can move some app data from the internal SD and phone storage to external SD. It's free in the market, and damn glad they have it!
Thanks!

Music, movies, media, videos, pictures, etc?
Maybe.
You can easily create fat32 partition then ext2 partition. After that install link2sd from playstore and voila. All of your apps can store directly to EXTERNAL SD.

My tablet has a devided into two pices internal memory. 500mb for apps and 3,5 gb for internal storage and it recognize it as sdcard. I put my 16gb sdcard and is found like extsd. My question is how can I move programs from sdcard to extsd, is there a program like app2sd or to combine the memory and to became one. Because if I put 3 game like asphalt 6 and it will finish the memory. Thank you.

try link2sd,
i dont know only one thing: where this program move files (apk+cache) cause i dont see them in /sd-ext and app2sd app (i forget about uninstalling it) is showing that app is in internal storage but internal storage free memoory is like it was before moving.
EDIT: after reboot it is in data/sdext2 folder (before in /data folder).
You can try this instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642006
Hi Guys!
I'm quite new like i said
and i saw a video on how to extend my internal memory by partitioning my sd card, but i'm not sure how to work Link2sd Properly
because when i download a app i go on link2sd it says on sd card but when i go to my actual internal memory theres changes towards it
so could you explain it to me
and explain what 'Create link' is
I also backed up my sd card before i did this and i put it back on but now i can't install the apps i used to have i.e tango & skype where can i delete the files of these on my sd card
by default apps are installed in the internal memory .
now you made a ext partition in your sd card
what link2sd does is it moves the application , data and dalvik cache from internal to your ext partition and creates a symbolic link in the internal memory
so when os searches the app in internal memory the link sends it to ext partition
the linking fools os which thinks that app is still on the internal memory ( due to the link ) but it is actually in ext partition
I hope this clears your doubt
