I have Sony Xperia Z Ultra and i always play games and listen to music while taking a bath, but sometimes internal speaker is just too quiet, and since headphones port dosent have flap i was thinking about taking my headphones with me when im taking a bath, does anyone know is this safe?, i dont plan to put the phone underwater while headphones are connected but im afraid that steam and vapour might break my phone when headphones are connected but then again im not sure since phone works fine underwater even tough headphones port dosent have flap (i put it in water the same day i bought it but without headphones connected)
Please someone answer my question, i need answer fast.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my bad English.
I've done it quite a bit, like you say, not dipping it in, but yeah, it's fine.
Yes you can. I always do that. Just be shure to wear some waterproof headphones ( or at least fitness ones).
Are you sure that steam and vapour wont cause oxidation in my phones connector and that it wont void warranty, i think i can see water sensor in headphones port, can you check if you can see something white or red in your port (if its white then its fine but if its red then warranty is voided) but im not sure if it is really water sensor, btw does it make any difference if headphones are water resistant (fitness) or normal ones because i dont have water resistant or fitness headphones, but i dont really care if headphones break, its not problem to buy new headphones but im more worried about my phone because i dont want to buy new one

I am ready to take the plunge with T-mobile, but this bothering the crap out of me. I am more casual user then business user, but tech geek, but come ON where on EARTH can i get an adapter WITH mic without carrying around half + meter of wire length... not very practical...
Any one know of a 3rd party solution
http://www.awswireless.com/store/headset-36H00622-00M.html - U110 - way too damn long.
Almost all 3rd party with mic are too damn long!
I found one that fits the bill, but this website looks iffy, and no reviews with 3 stars:
http://www.htcdepot.com/seidio-mini-usb-to-35mm-adapter/11A75A2812.htm
I need something like THIS! No extra wire, just a simple converter + microphone!
I'm not sure if I'm pointing out the obvious here...
...but what is the point of having the microphone about an inch away from the phone itself?
I assume you're planning on having the phone in your pocket whilst wearing headphones to listen to music...so a call comes in, you press the button on the adapter and all of a sudden the caller is talking to the symphony of your crotch...
good point. I was doing more research, decided to get this, gives both flexibility and portability:
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/h2ar11p-bk.htm
I only wished some high quality buds were made for this device... only thing that i see so far to fit the bill:
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/h3ern11p-bkg.htm
why not just get a bluetooth headset? ....its way more tech geek than wired mic and ear bud
Hi
I've read that when XTZ speakers get wet makes them muffled, which s normal if there is water in the holes.
But there is something strange I observe. When I get my XTZ-3G wet, one speaker is muffled, but the right one is complete OFF - no sound whatsoever from it. And when the speaker is halfway dry it works, but I observe a buzzing sound coming from it with the music...
This is not observed with the right speaker. And when tablet is dry - 30min later speakers sound OK.
Is it possible to be defective, etc to get water damaged?
I checked the ports and they stay dry, indicators are not visible .

Officially you should wait at least 3 hours for the speakers to dry, but my own experience is in line with yours, 30+minutes. For me, the right speaker was clogged badly too but I assumed it was because the Right speaker was submerged longer. It played sound, but very muffled and distorted. I'd recommend doing as Sony says and avoiding use of the speakers till dry if you want to avoid damage.
Got my ZU a week or so, totally in love with it! "i'm a size queen" lol
leaving this aside, I went on to test it's underwater capabilities and was quite confident as my previous Z was a warrior and no water infiltration in one year!
after submersion, that was for ~5 seconds I carefully wiped it dry and made sure there is no water left in the headphone jack
6 hours later I leave work and plug my headphones in and SURPRISE! at max volume the phone acts like it loses contact with the headphones and pauses the track in WALKMAN.
same in FM radio, tried with 3 different pairs of headphones.
should I let it more toooo...idk get the headphone jack dry off?
Water damage indicator is white, no infiltration and i made SUUUURE i had the flaps closed.
help me guys
UPDATE:
left it alone for a while and it's all good now
seems there was a droplet of water or smth still in the headphone jack.
sigh, maybe a protective flap for it is not that bad afterall? lol
thanks anyway guys
back to being happy with my ZU ^.^
Everyone Participate Please
I'm about to buy this phone so just wanted to make sure if anyone had issues with waterproofing or water test fails like previous Xperia phones.
Please give me your experience with this device in wet conditions
So far I have found the Z5C has way better waterproofing than the z3c, as you are not needing to move the flap to charge the phone all the time
I have used my phone in the ocean (even though it is not specifically designed to be used in the ocean) and washed it off with fresh water afterwards multiple times, and it works like a charn, no leaks or condensation
@nzzane
Great to hear!
Headphones and sound issues till dries
Also, a kind of obvious note. You will have to wait till the phone dries to charge it, and sound quality will be a bit muffled due to the water (until it dries)
@smardu @nzzane
I can live with that
ill recommend to put duct tape on the string hole
i found on my test water can enter from there only
@Superrman
Are the string hole and flaps connected like open tunnel between them (considered faulty units)?
showers, rinses(not washing machine, just tap or hose), thunderstorms A+ for this phone so far!
Sound does get muffled in direct spray and the occasional water drop changes the song lol but all in all had the phone for a year and could sell it as NEW if needed
@Tingles
I guess Sony waterproof smartphones are getting better and better!
rip
I ran mine under a tap and five minutes later the screen stopped working lol.

Were you able to fix it?
Waterproof??
Yea so I got my z5c back from repair and somehow I damaged the screen with water when running it under a tap. So I guess mine wasn't that waterproof...

Our device has these ratings
IP6X. Dust tight.
IPX5. Protected against low-pressure water jet spray for at least 3 minutes.
IPX8. Protected against the effects of continued immersion in water at depths greater than 1 metre. The exact conditions are specified for each device by the manufacturer.
Here's the address for proper precautions for our device, plus some other info.

Although now that you have had it repaired I would be a little more delicate with that device.:fingers-crossed:
When your phone gets opened, generally consider it to lose its water proofness. However I have been able multiple times using hot glue to perfectly seal it again.
Remember there's an easy and reliable way to check if your Xperia is water proof: Xperia Water Resistance Test

The small top hole is one of the microphones. There's an identical one on the bottom of the phone. So, you can make stereo recordings.

The earpiece actually turns into a 3rd microphone for high decibel environments, like live concerts.
But that top one is one of the two "regular" microphones.
Thanks, I thought so. Is it only for recording, or for noise reduction too? Recording I don't care about. Also, should I plug it with glue?

On autopilot I was going to put in a SIM card in my brand new phone and pressed where the hole was on my previous phone. Bad mistake, I guess... I probably put it right through something vital. Because I used the small hole at the top of the phone. Not the side. The light wasn't all that good, so I didn't notice that there was no SIM holder there. My guess is that it is a mike of some sorts, but I tried to record sound and had no problems with that. And it seems like there's a mike at the bottom of the thing too. So what did I mess up this time?
Edit: And does this mean that the phone isn't water resistant anymore? Can I stuff a bit of black silicone glue (the type used in bathroooms) in there with the pointy tool to make it water resistant again?
Edit 2: Oh, please drop the idiot jokes. I know it! Googling I have seen that I am far from the only one that has done that, I just would like to know exactly what it is on this phone, and if I should plug the hole to keep i waterproof. That's rather important for me, because I am an avid hobby crawfish and crab fisher and will probably get water splashing over this.

Aren't there barometer measuring apps for that ?
I read that by checking on pressure you can find out if your phone is still water resistant

How about fixing it?

If you don't want to tackle it, cell phone repair shop can.
That top mic is probably used for noise reduction during phone calls (since it's the top mic and you would speak into the bottom one), but used for recording stereo when actually recording? I'm sort of guessing on this.
If someone who is audio has better answer, jump in.
zacharias.maladroit, I have also read that. But I have read that it doesn't work as well, since the holes "breathe", they are mes of goretex or similar material. But I'll try anyway, thanks.
ChazzMatt, Interesting, thanks! Looking at that video at around 4:55 it may seem like the pin must have penetrated to the side of the microphone! I think I see the pinhole to the right of where the actual microphone is. As for fixing it, I am far to clumsy. But using a shop is of course an option, the only thing is that the phone is brand new and I'm guessing I'll loose the warranty for that. But I think I will first of all find out if the microphone isn't damaged, and then I will see what happens when I cover the hole. If it doesn't change the call qualty I will probably choose (at least for now) to glue shut that pinhole. If it is a problem for call quality I can maybe live with that using a silicone case and a piece of electrical tape over the pinhole when I go out to fish.

Yeah, 4:55 - 5:30 on that video shows taking out the old mic and putting in the new, for anyone else who needs to do it.
I thought it was the portal through which the Little Green men inVariably came out 30 times each night to hide your car keys, TV remote, and generally turn your life into a living hell?
