[Q] Weather App not updating via bluetooth - Samsung Gear S

Good Morning All,
I have abrand new Gear S. Via bluetooth, the weather app will not update....but when I connect to wifi, the weather app updates just fine.
Of course, when I connect back to bluetooth, the weather returns to two days ago and is wrong and will not update.
I have reset the Gear S three times and have uninstalled the gear manager several times....nothing has helped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
FYI: Hubby has same watch, in same house, on same mobile signals, etc...., his weather updates just fine.
Update: Removed the SIM card and the weather immediately updated. Also, on Gear S, in settings, when Sim card is inserted, under About Gear, the Gear Phone Number shows Unknown. So it appears that my SIM card is bad.

I believe I read in the quick setup manual that the weather app will only update either via wifi/mobile signal.........cause mine does the same it will not update via bt.

did you activate the sim with a carrier?

Weather App and SIM card
Further Update: We did return the SIM card, it was defective. After that the weather app updated as it should.
Further, further update: We also went ahead and got early Christmas gifts, The Galaxy Note 4's. NOW, there is an update graphic in the weather app and you can update anytime you wish.

Hi,
I have no weather at all.
Checked any configuration items, tested with/without BT connection > nothing.
Inside the Gear manager, managed application, "Weather" is shown, also the configuration.
Any hints are very appreciated.
My configuration: Samsung S4 / Gear S / Multi SIM (2 SIM, same tel-number), Vodafone contract.

I have had my Gear S (paired with my Galaxy Note 4) for a couple weeks now. There have been a couple Gear Manager updates, which I find causes many conflicts after the update. Last night when activating the Gear Manager on my Note 4 I was prompted to update, did so, and the weather app stopped working. Solution: uninstall and reinstall. It's a pain that the Gear S has to be completely reset as well and then re-customized. But the weather app works fine again over BT. Great suggestion for an app: a backup/restore manager so that once a reset is done, the Gear S can be quickly reconfigured.

Hi,
so it looks like a general problem and not only on my Gear S.
Hopefully Samsung will fix it in the next update. I`m not willing to install and reconfigure the apps new.
Thanks for your reply.

I am able to update the Gear S Weather app, but found out that you must have Location services on the phone turned on first. Try this out if you are having issues with updates.

If you froze or uninstalled Unified Daemon, the weather would fail to update. I unfroze it and it is working again :fingers-crossed:

I've read some interesting posts, and still can't figure it out. Maybe a sign of getting old?
What I've gotten out of all these so far:
1. Ensure LOCATION SETTINGS is on. (Yep, it is)
2. Reinstall "The app". (Which app? Weather? On my Galaxy S4? )
Sorry, I'm one that needs every step, every tidbit of information. I don't speak that way, but I process that way.
For some reasons, I need the weather including humidity. I ride a Goldwing, so weather is nice. I wear contacts and my eyes dont' naturally tear or water, so I need to know what the humidity is and will be. So, I need the weather.
Thanks for any help.
Rick

I found solution
Put wheater widget to screen and touch wheater widget and grand Access to localization.

HTC Weather app in UK

Has anyone else had any problems with the HTc weather app displaying "No weather data available"?...
I've had this on every ROM i have switched between. And on a recent flash of legendroid it had been working for a few days before mysteriously stopping; so i know the data is out there....
Has anyone else had similar problems or know of any workarounds..?
Never ever had this problem.
I have asked this same question 2 or 3 times over the last few months and not had an answer. It works well everywhere I go but never when I am within about 3 miles of my home, though it once showed me the weather for my home town.
yes, i have had this problem too,,, but it normally clears after a roboot
yeah, i've had this issue since i got my hero last year. when set to current location, it shows weather everywhere except my house..weather bug is a good alternative on the market though.
Likewise. I've never had it work when set to current location, so I added my home town to the presets & just use that - no problems. It's obviously not sourcing the weather data that is the problem, but something specific to the coding of how current location is handled.
Nice to see that its not just me then...my problem was that my hometown isn't listed on the app, which made the fact that it was working to begin even more wierd.
On my 1.5 standard ROM it sometimes wouldn't pick up the weather, I found unchecking the "automatically get weather" box and re-checking it, forced it to update the location and weather, which most of the time worked.
Since I've gone up to VillainRom 5.2 I've had no issues with this.

Weather is deeply connected with the world clock and the location service. So at first look if any other city in the weather tab than "my location" is updated. If not than it is an issue of your internet connection. Try both wifi and your phone data connection. If these cities are updated look if you have the location services activated.
Sometimes it is a problem caused by bad reception, so the actual location can not be updated.
Another possibility is CHTS. If you use profiling you should look at the settings for the weather update in every profile and activate it.

[Q] Stock weather widget doesn't auto-refresh!

Hello,
I realized recently that the stock weather widget on my SGS2 does not auto-refresh sometimes although it is set to do so "Every 3 Hours". The widget update is not completely disabled, it auto-refreshes randomly, at 5 Hours, 6 Hours and sometimes it doesn't update for a whole day.
I removed all my cities and added them again, the updates worked for a day auto-refreshing exactly every 3 hours, the next day, the widget started updating randomly again and not every 3 hours.
My background and auto sync settings are on, I have a stable data connection and I have removed JuiceDefender and Advanced Task Killer, the problem still exists and it's driving me crazy because I actually like the stock weather widget.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hmm, I don't think so because my data connections goes between 3G and H+.
Anyone, please? It's getting really frustrating.

I have the same issue on the Galaxy Nexus (GSM). It's possible that the auto-refresh is not able to determine the location of the device. I have set mine to one zip code and so far it seems to be working. The app/widget needs a refresh badly though.

[Q] GPS not locking issues

I just got my wife and myself the S4, our first Samsung phones. Everything seems to be great, except GPS and navigation. I am hoping I am missing something simple. I did not see this issue discussed in the S4 forums here, actually there was one about just how good GPS is with this phone. Anyhow my problem, GPS rarely locks in when I start navigation using Google maps. It will accurately show my present location, I am assuming it is using the wireless network to show that. But 90% of the times I use navigation, it will not lock at all. I have found that if I go into settings and uncheck the stand alone GPS services box, then recheck it I will get immediate GPS lock and can navigate. Then the very next time I need to use navigation, same thing, no GPS lock. I downloaded the GPS status app and same thing there, will not lock on a single satellite, I do my uncheck/recheck thing, and instantly I have many many locked satellites. Anything I am missing in settings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Fred
I have the same issue.
Works fine for me on stock. I get almost instant GPS lock outdoors. I did have some issues on some ROMs, but I think that was ROM specific, because flashing back to my backup of stock fixed it.
Well I am trying to contact Samsung support. See what sort of run around they can give me.

I had this problem on the GS3...not sure about the S4 yet. Anyway, I found that turning on GPS only when I needed it and turning it off when I didn't made it work correctly. Obviously this isn't ideal but the GPS was 100% using it that way.
I may have found a fix. I tweeted with Samsung support today. They had me boot up in safe mode. In safe mode it only boots up stock apps, nothing that has been downloaded. Well my GPS worked just fine. So it would seem to indicate one of the apps I downloaded was the cause. So I rebooted and began to uninstall any app I had installed. Every two apps I would check the map, still no GPS lock. I had to uninstall every app I installed. Once they were all off the phone, my GPS once again worked perfectly. So I began to re-install the apps one by one, checking the map each time. It kept working. Eventually I had re-installed every app I just took off. GPS, maps and navigation still working perfectly. My wife's S4 had the same issues, so I uninstalled everything, re-installed it, and her GPS works as well. We decided to run some errands and used the navigation for each stop, worked perfectly.
Don't ask me why, I have no clue, but so far my phone is fixed. Will report back if anything changes.
Oh, and if you want to boot up in safe mode and don't know how, power off your phone. Power it back on, when the first loading screen comes up, press the down volume key until the phone reboots. It will be in safe mode. It will be indicated as such in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
I hope this helps others and is a permanent fix.
GPS not locking, possible solution.
Ok, well I think I have my problem narrowed down to one app. After deleting and re-installing all my apps GPS worked just fine. This morning I opened up Yahoo Weather for the first time since re-installing. Knowing it used GPS location I checked navigation right after. Sure enough I had lost my GPS functionality. Uninstalled the app, all GPS services came back. Check the same issue with my wife's S4, same results.
I am not saying this is the only app causing issues, but seems to be on my phone. Without the Yahoo weather app, all is good. Which is a shame because I really liked the app.

I confirm removing Yahoo weather fixes the issue. Thanks a lot for this solution.
Good, I am glad it help. Not sure if it will help or not, but I did send an email to yahoo support. I am hoping maybe they can come up with an update that will fix the issue.
An easier way of going into safe mode is holding the power button, then when the shutdown menu pops up, hold down the power off button. Might be a little easier

Thanks
I've been beating myself up over this. I haven't had the phone a week and thought my GPS was shot. I know this is an old thread, but it fixed me. Thanks again. Darn Yahoo Weather!
Are there still problems with this? The app received an update on august 15th.
I've tried turning on the GPS and Google Maps works ok for now.

GPS Woes

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the GPS not working? The phone is able to determine my current location but is unable to actually navigate anywhere. Google maps never shows an arrow to indicate the GPS is locked. I've also used several Gps app to help correct it. I've done multiple resets and app updates I've even sent the phone back to Nokia twice just for them to tell me nothing is wrong. My phone is running the latest update as of March 11. Please help!

Review your 'Location' settings.
Go to Settings - - > Security & Location
Look for Location (it should say On) press to open Location menu screen, review all options shown.
Near bottom of list look for Scanning and select. This will bring up options to use wifi and Bluetooth to scan for positioning. Turn them both on.
They help even when not using. System uses to triangulate (better identify location).
Also check 'Google Location Accuracy'. I know from experience if that selection is off GPS will work, but navigation Apps are fairly useless.
Some suggestions. Hope it helps.

Tried all of that to no avail. They were already on so switched them off then on, checked maps, restarted phone and checked again.

Hello, I have this problem too, there is no solution

你好,我也遇到同样的问题,没办法解决。
turn off: Google Location Accuracy, GPS will working.
when open google maps, it will ask to turn on Google Location Accuracy .... select NO!!!
On my device, this worked. Download the app "GPS Test" from F-Driod (might be in Play Store? I never looked...) https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.android.gpstest.osmdroid/
In the app, click the "Clear assist data" wait a few minutes. I've waited between 1 - 20 minutes in the past. The GPS redoes all it's data and starts working again for me.
I had the same problem. Contacted Nokia, it's a known problem caused by an update.
About a month ago I received a new update and since then everything GPS related is working fine again.
I had the same problem and sent my phone to repair. They confirmed the issue and corrected it. Since then the GPS works well.

Everything worked well up to today. Since today same problem again. No GPS signal... Nothing seems to get it back working again... Big disappointment!
