(Solved)How to make a splash screen
1. use paint.net - Don't worry about the rgb565 plugin(it is not necessary)
2.. click new and set the size as 720x1280
3. find a image that you like on google that is 720x1280 and right click and copy it from the web (I use google Image search "720x1280 Splash")
4. Go back to Paint.net and paste it.
5. Make sure you flip the image upside down. It has to be upside or it will display upside down on your phone.
6. Save the image as oemlogo.bmp
7. Enable your computer to show file extensions and rename the file to oemlogo.mbn
8. Hook your phone up to the computer and copy the file to your phone
9 use es explorer and go to Cust/????/us/logo/oemlogo.mbn in the root (device) directory.
10. Rename the file in the Cust/????/us/logo folder to oemlogo.mbn1
11. Copy the supplied logo and paste it in your Cust/????/us/logo or get your own logo, just make sure that it 720x1280.

I will make sure to keep the phone going and make developer eager to port 4.4.2 from the china phone to US with mt2-l03

I tried both of the methods above to get rid of the ugly "Consumer Cellular" Splash screen. First, I just tried the file shared by the OP. The splash logo didn't change. I even deleted everything from the Cust/????/us/logo folder and the phone continued to display the "Consumer Cellular" Splash screen. Surely, there should be something wrong. Any ideas ?

So, it won't let me move any new files to the "cust" folder/partition. It just says "failed, location does not exist".
Any ideas? I can access and edit other root locations.

You must enable write root RW on root directory.

[Q] VoiceMail Removal

i have the Voicemail Icon on my Status bar ALL the time.
NO it's not a service provider issue. Nor anything else. it's just something i have to live with it (i live in Iraq, and trust me these things are normal here)
WHAT I NEED IS: is it possible to REMOVE the icon from the system so i can't see it on the status bar anymore????
If your rooted you could find the png file in framework-res.apk or systemUI.apk and replace it with a transparent image other than that i cant help sorry.
Yes Rooted. and Yes i want to use this method (either delete or make it fully transparent)
BUT: where can i find those? directory ???

BTW, Thanks for your concern and kind help.
I have found the file its stat_notify_voicemail.png in framework-res.apk.
Can you copy your framework-res.apk from system/framework with a root file manager and upload it and ill replace the image for you.
If your not sure how to do this let me know and ill try to explain.
Ive modded the file to be transparent just needs injecting into your framwork
can you teach me how to replace the PNG inside the APK? so i can do it myself in the future.
Thanks again ( A LOT )
update:
the Framework-res.apk is over 10mb big and won't load (unless i zip it and send it in 2 parts) ... it'll be great if you tell me how to replace the png.
Sure i can we like a user who likes to learn
first you need winrar http://www.rarlab.com/
1. using a root file manager (this is a good free one http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=30417) copy your framewor-res.apk from system/framework to your internal or external SD Card
2. Copy it off the SD to your pc.
3. open the framework-res.apk on your pc with winrar
4. Navigate to drawable-hdpi
5. drag the modified stat_notify_voicemail.png i attached into drawable-hdpi leave all the options as they are and press ok.
4. copy the framework-res.apk bk to system/framework *you might get a force close or random reboot (dont worry its normal)
5. when phone has rebooted navigate to system/framework and change the permissions to as per my pic.
6.reboot
7.???
8. Profit
Hope that made sense!
Never will the voice mail icon annoy you again
My upload didnt work properly ive rar'd it up hopefully will work better this time
no matter what i do or use it won't let me edit (over write - replace - rename) the framework-res.apk file.
i replaced the png but can't replace the whole apk
PS: is there a way to permanently stop the Voice mail. (like uninstall the functionality from the phone)
You need to set your file system to writable, try this.
1. Download es file explorer from the market
2. In options tick root explorer
3. Tick mount file system as writable
4. Copy the file using es explorer
-possible reboot
5. go bk to system/framework in es explorer
6. long press the file - properties and change permissions to match my pic
6. reboot
hopefully that should sort it and you still get voicemail
ps. this shouldn't need saying but im gonna say it anyways, make sure you have a CWM recovery backup first just incase something goes wrong and you can restore

CRT animation on stock rom?

Hi! I have a rooted galaxy s2 with stock 2.3.5. Is there a way to add the CRT animation to the stock ROM?
See this thread
To install, download Root Explorer app, then:
1. Download the file from the above thread and unzip.
2. Connect the phone to your computer via USB and copy the downloaded framework-res.apk file to a folder on the internal SD drive.
3. On the phone, open the Root Explorer app.
4. Navigate to /system/framework.
5. Long press on framework-res.apk and press Copy
6. Press back key then navigate to /sdcard/external_sd/backup and hit paste to create a backup on the external sd card [NB backup is a folder I use for backups, but you can paste it anywhere]
7. Press back key twice then navigate to the /sdcard folder where you copied the downloaded framework-res.akp file.
8. Long press on framework-res.apk and press Copy to copy the new version.
9. Press back key twice then navigate back to /system/framework and hit "Mount r/w" at the top.
10. Press Paste to overwrite the new file over the old one.
11. The screen goes black, the startup music plays, then the screen comes back and it's installed.
Thanks I changed the framework-res.apk and it works but the animation doesn't seem to display very well... It looks more or less like this:

Check out jkays mods.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154278
If you have one of the supported stock Rom versions you can easily flash his stock odexed theme to keep the stock look then install jkay delux application and get the CRT effect and many other tweaks that I'm sure you will find useful.
Great lockscreen too.
I think this is a much better option than trying to do each mod manually.
Also everything from jkay is totally reversible.

[Mod] Stock HTC Rezound Boot Animation

This is the Stock Boot Animation for the Rezound.
For the past few months i have been trying out new Roms for the HTC Rezound and have been searching for a great boot animation. but none of them were as appealing to me as much as the stock was. So i've decided to extract a copy of the boot animation from the stock rom and share it with everyone. So i hope you all enjoy it as much as i do.
(((The Quality of the GIF below is not very good because
i downgraded the Pics from 720x1280 - 360x480 for the GIF below only.
The Boot animation itself is still 720x1280)))

[TUTORIAL][GUIDE] How to extract your ***.tar.md5 ROM file (Samsung stock ROM) [EASY]

Hello everyone,
I have been searching for the same thing since last 2-3 days but couldnot find a reliable guide as nothing was working for me. So, i just took a trial and VIOLA!!!! its done.
There are various guides for manual extraction of such files which utilizes a dozen of softwares like 7Zip, WinRAR, MagicISO etc etc but frankly speaking none of them worked for me.
So, I thought to make a simple guide for the needy like me (with screenshots).
GUIDE STARTS HERE:
Things you need:
1. A rooted Android device.
2. sgs2toext4 (a java based applet). Download here.
3. Linux disk reader. Can be downloaded here.
STEPS:
1. Download and extract your stock ROM. They are available on various servers like www.sammobile.com etc.
2. You will get two files as shown below:
We only need the one having .tar.md5 extension.
3. Now, remove the .md5 from the extension of the file so that only .tar will remain.
4. Copy this file to your rooted Android device.
5. Download RootExplorer in your device and run it. Explore your sdcard in it.
6. Open it and locate your copied ROM file.
7. Open the ROM file. It will have various files but we need only two files. system.img and boot.img.
8. Long press on the file and select extract. The file will be extracted to sdcard/SpeedSoftware/Extracted/[HERE]
9. Copy these files back to your PC.
10. Start sgs2toext4.jar utility. It will open a window named Drop .img. Drag and drop your system.img on the utility.
11. You will get a new file named system.ext4.img. This is the converted file.
12. Now, download, install and run Linux Disk Reader. Select 'Mount Image' from left pane and browse for system.ext4.img. Make sure you have Raw Disk Images selected as in image below.
13. You will see a new drive created in the reader named Linux ext volume.
14. Open the drive and you will see all the system files. Select all and select Save.
15. Select a folder for saving (Preferably name it as 'system').
16. Now, you have an extracted ROM. Modify, customize and publish it.
ENJOY!!!
Just Press

Thanks for the tutorial, but it doesn't work. When I try to extract the system image file with root explorer, it seems to freeze and doesn't extract anything.
It extracts the boot image, but when you try to open it and view the files with linux reader, it says 'can't open disk: C:users\downloads\boot.img
Check the disk and try again'. Any idea what is going wrong?
I am trying to extract the files from a stock Samsung 4.4.2 ROM, if that helps. Cheers.

HUAWEI Ascend Mate 2 MT2-L03 rooted.
I have changed the carrier logo to the one down loaded and tried to follow the instruction. "Terminal Explorer" search on play store brings up several "Terminal Emulator" apps but not "terminal explorer" . I tried a emulator but "Su" doesn't work. "su" changes the prompt to root. It wasn't clear whether enter was supposed to be used between Su and load or not. My boot screen hasn't changed after rebooting. Any suggestions?

Post the steps. Thats all I need to complete the change. From Consumer Cellular.
Here is instruction to change boot logo for Consumer Cellular version:
1. root the phone, install ES File Explorer or Root Browser, and ConnectBot or any terminal app, and grant super user right to these apps
2. backup original boot logo at /cust/us/consumercellular/logo/oemlogo.mbn if you really like that ugly image
3. make a 720x1280 image then flip it vertically (if you forget to do this, you will find out soon...)
4. save the image as 24bit bitmap file (BMP format), any program should be fine as long as it can save file in this format without any additional tag, header, profile etc
5. use this "BMP header remover" (Windows only, but it should not be hard to write your own for Linux) to remove the 54 byet header from the BMP file:
http://karpolan.com/software/bmp-header-remover/
6. copy the modified BMP file to your phone as /cust/consumercellular/us/logo/oemlogo.mbn
7. make a backup copy of this file : /data/custom.bin
8. use ES File Explorer or Root Browser or terminal app to modify the text file /data/custom.bin, just add a few characters to the end of line, for example, anything will do, just change it, and save. Please don't ask me why, a few Chinese posters figured this out on their Chinese version, I have no idea why this works.
Code:
consumercellular/us
to
Code:
consumercellular/us-xyz
9. go to a terminal (eg ConnectBot) on your phone, type:
Code:
$ su
# load_oemlogo
you should see a line says something and it should take a second or two to execute. if you see nothing and it finishes in no time, then you did not do step 8 correctly
10. put the text file /data/custom.bin back to its original form, hope you did back it up!
Code:
consumercellular/us
11. reboot, and you should have your new boot logo.
Shutdown logo
The instructions worked for everything except the shutdown logo...its still that ugly consumer cellular logo...ideas?
That's a separate file. Just delete it. Or rename it something other than shutdownanimatiin.zip
