Has anyone figured out how to reply to Hangouts on the Gear S?
So far, there is no way to reply any app that is not from the Samsung, namely, only the stock Messages and Email apps are capable of replying.
That sucks... LOL I hope someone makes a decent app or work around
Notifications For Gear allows you to reply to hangouts. The app needs some polishing though.
Yeah I tried that... The app opens up on my phone though
This is what I liked about Android Wear.
Although hangouts worked on Android wear, if you used the stock or any other messaging app it didn't

Hi,
Have the G Watch paired with my G3. I'm using the stock text app on the phone.
Texts comes in perfectly fine on the watch, but I don't see an option to reply. If I swipe right, I only get the option to show on device. Is this something only supported if I use Hangouts as my text app?
I think you have to use Google hangouts as the default messaging app on the phone to reply to texts. Could be wrong though.

Hangouts is fully supported. Other SMS and IM apps need to be updated by the devs to support Android Wear

8sms is also supported
Evolve sms also supports it

Thanks all. I'm using the G3 and am fine with the stock messaging app. I may just switch to hangouts for this.
GO SMS also supports but only a dictated reply.
I'd like to able to use some canned replies myself.
Does anyone know if this is supported by the other SMS apps?

Hangouts allows me to use pre-scripted text, and I can voice dictate text messages as well.
How do you do prescripted text messages? Currently when I get a text message the only options I get at "Yes" or "No" and or I can dictate. I'd like to have a "Driving now but I'll get back to you soon" message or a "oh that's interesting" or "awesome!" along with some of my other favorite ones like:
"dude that's messed up"
"She did???"
"It's not my baby!"
"Interesting, tell me more"
"who this?"
"I'm totally paying attention to you"
Yeah, there's not even an "LOL" on the Hangout canned responses. Lame.
There's someone working on canned responses over here, but I have seen any activity lately, and it never worked on my watch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/themes-apps/wip-android-wear-canned-responses-t2825506
I'm using Quick Texts which is canned responses in Go SMS. You can create as many of these as you like too.

I am using the minuum keyboard along with wear messenger to respond to texts/gmails/hangouts. I tried the keyboard on the wear browser, but I didn't like it much.
Contacts+ allows for voice reply
On my Pebble i was running Glance, Had 16 responses to choose from, Would be great to have something with similar functionality on Android Wear

Exactly, I like the fact that we have some quick replies in there already but it would be nice to be able to edit them. I don't even think "LOL" is one of them, they have "hehe" but no "LOL"!
I really don't want to type text messages on my phone, the voice dictation thing works pretty well but sometimes I just want to send a very quick "That's awesome! But who is this?".
I have issue with 8SMS - I got the message correct, select answer, tell the answer and watches tell me "OK" but the message is not sent and is not stored in the phone.
Hangouts is working well but it miss some functions which I like.
When I select discarting unicode characters, the application crashed - Galaxy S5. The original application opens the application on the phone, when I select Reply
Any suggestions?
I've been using EvolveSMS for a while and responses work fine on it. It's got a nice interface too.

For anyone interested, i found this xposed module on the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...utm_source=42matters.com&utm_medium=WidgetWeb
This seems good but when I checked it it worked only with EvolveSMS. 8SMS and also Hangouts not work.
I found next issue: Hangouts and 8SMS not vibrate on the watches. I use ChumbSMS which vibrates but it is not supported by the mod
Anyone have any luck on getting a different messaging app to work with the GS? I love and use ChompSMS and it is my default app, but it will not allow me to respond on my GS. Only the default messaging app will allow that.

It suck but looks like Samsung blocked us Gear S users from using anything but their own sms app to send.
Don't think they do it on purpose. Most probably a compatibility thing as the gear s uses tizen.
Same issues that the gear 2 watch series have.
I use chompsms with my gear s
It works like a charm
The sms poppes up and i can reply to it.... no problem
But i cant compose a message on the gear
But who cares... all i need is to see the text message and if i choose so. Reply quickly to it
So i think its all good
Which app is better for replying to SMS? i used to have LG G watch with hangouts but i assume that gear S works better with native Note 4 SMS app?

I like being able to edit my messages on the Gear S. Android Wear was a nightmare for me in that sense. Plus I can keep messages. On Android Wear they are dismissed upon reply.
A keyboard helps too.
So which app si better? Native SMS from Samsung or hangouts?
Does the Gear S even have a hangouts app?

It really depends on what you like. I only use Hangouts to talk to my friends who are on it, not for SMS.
The way Samsung's SMS app works with Samsung phones and devices is unique and has features you don't really notice until you try something else.

Not natively. Only iOS gets any official Google apps outside of Android, which is pretty lame.
What are the different features from each one? The major ones. On both of them you can answer with the keyboard?

Just try them both out and see for yourself. Some people prefer one and others prefer the other. But with the Gear S, only Samsung's SMS works fully.
So I ended up buying the Gear S after having tried both the Gear 2 and the Gear Live and was fully aware that Samsung made it tough as possible to reply to SMS from the watch unless you use the stock messaging app on your phone (which blows). Does anyone have any advice on the best way to use the Gear S to respond to texts without using S Voice or the stock app. I currently use either Hangouts or Google Messenger and am happy to use pretty much anything other than stock.
Thanks in advance

There is an app for that! lol
In all seriousness tho, if you read the apps section you will see a beta in the works and there is another app in the google play store (yes the google play store) Its called notifications for gear s and it allows you to reply to all incoming notifications I believe.

Would anyone be interested in the BBM app for Gear S if I was to get it developed and possibly sell it in the gear apps store. Please reply if you are interested. If I get enough interest I will possibly offer it for free.
bbm is dead. If you managed to get a WhatsApp client running would be a completely different story.
That and skype would be on fire.

How much would you pay for whatsapp? However you hardly need whatsapp anyway as with notification for gear s app you don't need whatsapp as the notifications app allows you to respond to whatsapp messages and start new messages/conversations

It's not really a good supplement for real WhatsApp app.
If you were able to do something that could playback voice messages, take calls and send voice messages it would seriously rock.
I'd easily pay 5 bucks for it

Thanks for your response. If I get enough interest I will look closer at getting whatsapp developed as well.

Hey does anyone use whatsapp on android wear? Just wondering if it is full app with full capabilities and if you would recommend it and if it isn't, would you prefer the same as what's on android wear or would you rather we worked straight from the original android app? LMK your thoughts on this

I don't know what changes were made since a few months ago to WhatsApp but I've used it - like 2 months ago and it was no different than the integration we have at the moment on the Gear S.

Thanks for your input
If you made something similar that could let you for example use your watch as a Bluetooth playback device and microphone, kind of how calls are taken on the Gear S, it would be just as good. That would work with Skype, WhatsApp or any other call/voice/sound based service - allowing you to take, make and receive calls on the device.
Then all you'd need to do is integrate that with messages and you'd have gold.
Worth real money for something like that.
