Have had my Z2 for a while now, but there's 1 thing driving me nuts that I cannot seem to find a solution for. Every other Android phone I've had (Nexus' and Samsungs) has let you mute and unmute the mic whilst on a call using a short press on the button on a set of headphones (And a long press to hangup). The Z2 only seems to hangup, with no option at all to mute/unmute. I've looked everywhere in settings, tried the woefully buggy Smart Key app from Sony (Not only does it not work to do a mute/unmute, it breaks more things that I could count), used different headsets etc, none of them work.
I was kind of hoping the 4.4.4 update with the revised dialer would finally allow such a basic feature, but no dice. Anyone have any solutions or ideas to this working as expected?

I'm talking about muting/unmuting from the headset, not on the phone itself. If you're on multi-person, multi-hour calls where you have to regularly mute your mic frequently, doing it from the headset is so much easier than waking the screen all the time.
HI I'm having Xperia z2 and having the same problem. During in call perid the mic and mute button automatically activate and after while call cancel suddenly, but if I press side power button and let the screen not awake position the above problem do not appear.
How to solve this?

I have a Qtek device.
When looking at screen shots online, I see the phone application having 3 bottons on the top left side of the screen, right above the dialer pad. On my device, there is nothing, just the dialer pad. How can I get those buttons? from the screen shots, they look simply like the phone log being displayed inside the dialing pad applicaton and the buttons are simply the missed/received/dialed icon, but on my device, I can only see that in full screen mode?
And, of course, the main question, how to enable speaker phone mode?
Thank you!
Press and hold the green button when in a call. Toggles it on and off.
speakerphone in default mode

And I say more that if you turn off the phone and before that happens you press and hold the green button you will adjust the speakerphone in default mode so during outgoing and incoming calls your phone will be always in speakerphone mode.
Just a soft reset to disabled the default mode or press and hold the green button to disabled during a call.
Sorry for my english...
Hi.
Francesco
Has anybody got any experience with toggling the speaker phone programmatically?
I put up the same post on the MSDN pocketpc.developer news group, and received a reply that it's a feature of the manufacturer, and if they haven't published the API, I will not be able to do it.
But that was before I found this site! Does anybody know if this is possible?
Thanks in advance, Ben Clewett
If the speaker jack is screwed where it thinks that there is a speaker (external mic) attached it will do no good.
-
Even if you push the GREEN TALK since the system thinks you have a
Mic attached .....
you need to bypass or jump it or bend the pins as said before back...
Good Luck
1) If speakerphone on - disable with PUSH GREEN PHONE WHEN IN CALL
yes that works unless
2) system thinks speaker (external) is attached
so... you will hear from speaker and can use an hands free till fix
hope this helps
Hello,
As the mic and the speaker are enough strong to record and play mp3.
I was wondering why you don't have a function free-hand with the cellular phone? Does it exist a soft or something else to make that possible?
Thaks for your answer
if you mean speakerphone then holding down the pickup phone key for a few settings turn it on or at least thats what my manual say
yesss it's working, thanks a lot
I don't have that ICON
I don't have the phone icon. Do I have to enable it?
Let me know
Its the same green phone key you use to make a call bottom left of the xda.
I am running tazz froyo, but this has been a problem for a while. When I receive a text message with sound, like one of those stupid forwards everyone gets it has no sound. I have searched the phone settings and cant find a way to disable or enable the sounds. does anyone else have this problem or know what might be causing it?
My second problem is how do you wake the phone up from sleep while on speaker phone without hanging up on the person. The only way that I have been able to do it is to press the end button which terminates the call.
thanks for the help
For the first one, I have no idea.
For the second one, I'm glad to share this as I found it out yesterday.
Press and hold the volume up button and then press the send button to wake the screen when you're on a call and the screen won't turn on.
anybody know? Perhaps some app that does it?
Basically I have to do a lot of long conference calls for work, and generally speaking you need to mute yourself when you're not talking so the line stays quiet. It is a bit awkward putting the phone down, waiting the screen to turn on and jabbing the mute button on the screen each time you want to say something quick. Being able to mute via a hardware key would therefore be extremely useful but i can't seem to figure if it's possible!
thank you

Use a headset control app, like Jays, from the Play Store, and wired headset. One of the controls is double-click of the headset button to mute/unmute. Or you can customize the button to mute/unmute depending on how you click or hold the button, or whatever.
This does not work. In call controls aren't affected while music controls can be customized . Any work around?
This is a bit old thread, but I felt the same need and made a hardware switch that does exactly what you're looking for.
Visit the Kickstarter page below and let me know what you think:
Search JackFlip on Kickstarter.
Fix low earpiece volume during calls the easy way. Been looking for a fix and there was nothing, then I started flashing all sorts of sound mods and although they did improve the speakers for sound and music and speakerphone, the sound ftom the earpiece was still too low sometimes even in quiet room (during calls with people with bad microphones).
Finally a there was an easy fix, download an app from the play store called "Volume Controll". It will present you with more elaborate volume controls than the default built in sonys controls. Here just bump your in call volume to 80% and voila, you'll get louder in call earpiece volume without flashing media profiles xml or similar hack. You can also controll the loudnes while in call with volume keys.
Posted just because I found nothing about this and this is an essential smartphone function, almost exchanged my phone for an LG G3 cause of this single issue.
Would you mind posting the Play Store link?

Here it is, I believe other similar apps can do this. When prompted to upgrade after trial is over just tap outside the dialog box and continur using as normal. I turned off all notifications to hide profile switcher.
