Rooting Phone May Damage it? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hello, I got my S5 yesterday did and upgrade from the S2, my S2 I was running Xposed and CM11, all worked fine only some lags. Anyway, I ask since this is a new phone, do you know if by rooting you can damage the hardware? Thanks.

Just rooting the phone will not damage any hardware. however root allows you to make modifications that can damage hardware. for example if you are rooted you can overclock the cpu to the point that it will fail. so with root comes responsibility. if you are not rooted you cant make the modifications that can damage your device.

Best advice is to read the forums...

[Q] How to root Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830?

Hello,
I just got my first Android phone, i.e. Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and I want to know how can I root it. I have searched all over the forum but didn't found any answer, can anyone provide me step by step method how to root it.
I'd like to know this as well. Have asked the same in another thread but no answer there yet either.

Yea, I figured, but you'd think with a similar line of phones (Galaxy) it wouldn't take much of an effort, especially considering the Galaxy Ace is the Galaxy S's his little brother.
I'm not familiar with hardware and the coding but I'm hoping it will be here soon.
have u guys tried superoneclick. .its suppose to root almst all the android phones. .u can give it a try. .be careful while doing dnt brick ur phone. .n how is this phone in general i was planing to upgrade.

I'ts a very nice phone, I wanted a new phone so I got an Galaxy 3 first due to my budget, however after I returned it because it wasn't quite what I wanted I went for the Ace. It is just SO much faster, smoother, screen feels much better and it's slightly bigger, Ithink it's money well spend and I don't see a reason I would need an even better Samsung phone (Galaxy S).
I'll check out the superoneclick thing, but I'm very scared I might brick my brand spankin' new phone and would have thrown away 330 euro's...
Ok, I can confirm the SuperOneClick method told me the process went succesful on my Galaxy Ace S5830!
However I am not familiar with rooting before so I will try and figure out how and what I can do etc.
Just letting you guys know it is possible.
i was try rooted with superoneclick 1.6.5 but still not rooted..
Well it works for me, except when I try to use the rom manager now I can't select my phone model because it isn't in the list, not even any other galaxy phone, wasted 4 bucks on that.. any other good method to safely change roms?
Oh and I did try a manual override but the phone won't reboot into recovery mode, the program just freezes for a while and then does nothing.

Edit:
I just rebooted my phone a couple of times and suddenly it seems to do more things then before (where it gave me continiously messages I couldn't execute the actions or something), gonna check if more things work now.
Ok so I tried to go further with rom manager but eventually it caused my device to brick.. I managed to trade it at the store for a new one pulling of a story
that a factory reset bricked my phone so I recommend that no one attempts on rooting or romming their Ace phones as of yet until skilled developers have cracked the case.

How much did you bought yours and where? I'm also from the Philippines and still torn, to which one I should get.. Samsung Galaxy Ace or LG Optimus One..
Both has the same processor, Galaxy Ace is pretty much overclocked.
LG Optimus One has a bigger RAM. It's 512MB RAM, but Galaxy Ace only has around 256MB RAM.
Samsung Galaxy Ace has a larger screen than Optimus One. Also Samsung Galaxy Ace's design is much better.

Messing around a bit with ROM manager, I was trying to back up my phone firmware, it wanted to reboot, so I let it, then it never booted up again.
The 3 button thing doesn't work (I tried every possible combination, time etc.) and the only thing I was able to reach was the phone being displayed as 'Connecting..' in Kies on my PC.
Basically the screen just seemed it died.
Maybe it has to do with the fact the Samsung Ace didn't show up at all when I needed to confirm my device in ROM Manager (money well spend..) so I tried another one with succes, I assumed I would be able to back up my firmware in case anything went wrong anyway, ironic the backing up actually bricked my phone.
Using SuperOneClick v1.6.5 , my device(Samsung galaxy Ace S5830) was successfully rooted.
Tip: Just reboot your device after that.

Is this right?

Hi, I got my galaxy s2 in the post a week ago, but it was second hand, apparently unwanted upgrade. Anyway, is this an official kernal please, as I haven't seen it on any other device on YouTube when watching a meriad of reviews. So I have attached a screen shot of the kernal version. By the way this should be a sim free UK modal. I know this is random, but I have stupidly got my self a bit worried, could someone help me please? Thanks very much

It looks like they've possibly upped the kernel, but definitely rooted it. I very seriously doubt there's anything to worry about though. Looks like someone did the work for you
Nothing wrong there, you're rooted. If you're worried you could flash a different kernel! Easy as pie if you follow the threads available
Hi, but root checker says that I don't have root same with set cpu. Also, can i update it ota, to the new 2.3.4 when it comes out officially please? Also, I rooted my old htc desire, and then I wanted to root my galaxy s2 when ever here was a stableish nightly for ice cream sandwich, but will the fact it hasn't got an official kernel obscure me from flashing using odin to flash roms, other kenels and installing custom recovery, or because it says it isn't rooted, will it obscure be from rooting. Also are there any risks please? I am new to galaxy s2, I am used to the simplify of rooting the desire. thanks, also how do you know it's rooted?
Thanks very much for your help

Also, could you please be able to tell be, where in the procedure of rooting is my phone to be able to root, flash if someone has started the work for me please? I am just scared that if I start to mess around with trying to root it, and if someone has started the rooting the process, I might brick it. I don't know if I have explained this very well.
I should have done this before, but when it is so long I didn't think it would work, but I typed in the kernel in the search box and it came up with this, I think it may be stock and completely normal after all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14593753
I got mine from Orange and the kernel was KE2. I think that KE7 is an official firmware, but the "root" in the name suggests it's already been rooted. Have a look in your apps for CWM or Superuser. If they're there then it's probably Chainfire's root that has been applied. If not then maybe they just flashed a stock kernel before sending it to you.
Either way, following the instructions in Chainfire's root thread will not brick your device (as long as you do follow the instructions )
It's actually quite hard to brick it. You really need to start pulling cables or stopping odin when you're flashing to do that.

Installed Neat Rom and Bricked my SGII

I have brand new Samsung Galaxy S II LTE model I727R. I rooted it successfully using OneClick and the install CMW. I downloaded Neatrom and saved it to my internal sd card. I used CMW to install the rom, it did all the backups etc, but then the phone never turned on again. The phone got bricked and now it is in for repairs.
I wanted to ask if there are any known issues with this Rom working with this particular phone or is it something that I did? i have installed Alien Rom in the past using the same method and did not have a problem.
I am now hesitant to mess around with Roms based on this experience.
Any insight would be appreciated.
As far is I know NEAT rom is only for the Galaxy S2 I9100 and not for the I727.

500$ Samsung Galaxy S eh? If you paid for $500 for your vibrant anytime within the last year or so, then I think you have bigger problems to worry about than a brick.
Also, you really shouldn't house any animosity towards Chainfire. He is an excellent developer who has done so much for the modding community.
As for Chainfire3D, I can tell you from first hand experience that it does, in fact, work for the Vibrant. Please keep in mind that with anything involving modding your device, you accept the risk onto yourself willingly.Chainfire did not force you to do anything, that was your choice - you ought to think about these things before suggesting that he lied in regards to the supported devices, you just did not read the directions properly. How do I know this? Because in the description of the app clearly says, and I quote,
"!! For Froyo and Gingerbread ONLY. NOT COMPATIBLE with Honeycomb/ Ice Cream Sandwhich/Jelly Bean !!"
Guess what CM10 is. That's right, not Froyo or Gingerbread.
I used cf3d with ics perfectly fine, actually.

I did too actually... But that isn't the point ^^ when I used chainfire on ICS I had already talked with enough people to know that it worked... but I was still accepting the potential risk that it would not work since chainfire didn't recommend using it on anything above gingerbread. I never used it on jb because I heard stories that it didn't work and could really damage the phone... I did my research and read before doing things, this person just jumped in blind and is blaming a respected dev for his own inability to read.

True, true. Well maybe my vibe got damaged from the soft brick cf3d used. But yes, from both of us, OP, READ. Search before you post and right now, odin to stock and you have to start from stock, then ics, then jb. Do not restore a backup of a jb rom from an ics, froyo, or anything non jb. Same with other versions, because you can bootloop or soft brick the phone. You're lucky it is just soft bricked.
EDIT: If you have read...
1. Sending the phone to the experts (whom probably have specific knowledge of vibrant rooting and bricks) would've been off your list.
2. You would've known NOT to restore that backup.
And now, as many have said, we or any other devs are not responsible of your flashing even if it should've worked and we are also not responsible for things leading:
Bricks
Dead sd cards
Eu bug
Death of a loved one from brick rage
A hole in your wall from above reason
Thermo-nuclear war
Or catz poppings ups frum ur screenz afdur downroading rom asking fur cheezbergers.
Or a phone repairer finding pr0n on your phone when checking it out. We all know how bad that is.

Noooo my problem is not the Rom... my problem is that my sgs vibrant. It's stock on vibrant logo. First boot picture, not boot loop.
It doesn't open recovery!
You enabled chainfire drivers on jb (first mistake) and then you tried to restore a stock backup of eclair while you were still on jb (second mistake). You can't jump from jb down to stock like that, only from jb to ics and some later versions of gingerbread. What you want to do is boot into download mode and revert to stock the correct way. The moral of the story is when messing with your phone, read, read, read before doing anything ever. You're lucky, because it sounds like your phone will be just fine if you properly Odin back to stock via download mode. However, I warn you...if you Odin wrong, there is a good chance of ruining your phone, so read this time and make sure to do it correctly.

Am i right in thinking you are coming from an iPhone? Rooting an android phone isn't like jailbreaking in the sense that no matter what firmware you have, you can still root your phone and flash custom ROMs.

No, never had an iphone, never will i hope. I have had several android phones (moto defy, galaxy s/s2/s3, xperia s, htc desire hd). My qustion is whether it's a complicated method or is it root->cwm->flash type of thing...I just got it and don't wanna mess anything badly without knowing.
Haha nevermind, it was just asking for registering my device. Oddly enough it's already update, don't know if it's normal.
Anyways i would like to have some info about how flashing works on S3 because i have had phones where "unlocking bootloader" and actually letting the company know that the device has been unlocked like in xperia s case. So i just need some info regarding the method. Also some info whether it's worth flashing a specific version or rom out there that provides a better overall experience than stock.

All of the GT-i9300 phones (that's the model number for the international version) have the boot loader unlocked. All you need to do is, like you said, root it, flash CWM, and flash the ROM of your choice.
Samsung did implement a flash counter which will turn from 0 to 1 when anything is flashed, there is an app on the play store that can change it back to 1 called Triangle Away.
Personally i use cyanogenmod, if you don't know, it is the most popular ROM right now (i think) and it is based on AOSP (the Android source code from Google) but with many tweaks and added features that make it much faster and a better experience than stock. Right now I'm running the unofficial KitKat 4.4 version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529775
A lot of people get scared by the word "unofficial" but after a few weeks of running it i haven't had a single issue.
I use a custom kernel so i can overclock and undervolt, it's the boeffla 2.1-beta2.
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boe...st/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.ziphttp://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel-cm/cm11.0_download/Test/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.zip
wait so the counter stays at 1? no way to make it 0?
Oh sorry, typo Triangle Away resets the counter to 0
