Just a quick question, if I want to up grade to 17.1.2.A.0.314 using flastools will I lose my root on my z2? I downloaded a stock version of it off the xda forums, which is made for root. Also do I need to wipe my z2 or will it be fine without? Thanks for your help.
Nevermind I just went ahead with the process. For those who might be wondering, upgrading my firmware on my z2 did indeed wipe everything off the device and I had to re-root aswell as put on twrp again.

You can't via pcc or sus, you need to use flashtool to flash roms or recovery to install updates and keep root.

My mom got my note 2 when I upgraded my phone so I haven't been keeping up with the updates that have came since I last had it. The bootloader is LJB with twrp 2.5.0.0 running clean rom 3.5 (MC3). wanna know what's the best way to get it up to date and keep root? Can't remember if the bootloader was fully unlocked or not on LJB so if someone can refresh my memory on that. I gotta be able to save her app data and restore it as well. Thanks in advance!

Well if you are on CleanRomMC3 then your bootloader is unlocked:good:
To get you up to date, which is MJ9 4.3, you need to first flash this:
Firmware Package
Then you can flash any 4.3 ROM.. If you are using that firmware package and want something like CleanRom, which is pretty much stock then use this thread.. Make sure to thank him bc he did provide the firmware as well...
Stock Deodex/Odex 4.3 MJ9
Thank you!

yes you can, but 95% you will loose root after that. But nothing prevents you from rooting again with towelroot or Easy Root Tool (which is better).
Hi guys,
I'm an xperia noob here. I came from a Samsung galaxy s3 and an LG G2 and I'm not familiar with modding the xperia phones. I would really appreciate if someone could redirect me to the latest root method. If I were to root, do I need to unlock my bootloader? What would I lose if I root? What would I lose if I unlock my bootloader? How do I return back to stock if I need to? I would really be grateful for the replies from you guys!

I would also like to know because I am considering the z2 now with black Friday sales. Is it easy to root and stay on stock rom? Because I only want root

Yes it's easy to root with towelroot as I remember, and stock rom is best in my opinion, I never used custom rom on xperia. Only once, but that was stock based custom rom

Not quite, but it's still pretty easy. If you're on the 4.4.4 .167 firmware you need to check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
sorry my mistake, didnt know for that new firmware. But its still easy to do it, it requres only 10min of your time
Thanks for the newest root method, but what would I lose if I root or unlock bootloader?

If you only root, you don't loose anything. And with unlocked Bl you will loose warranty if something is wrong with the phone (camera function should be intact)

Sorry to muddy the water but, if all you have done is rooted, many users have upgraded ota from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 and even retained root.

Either its possible or not, when a number of people on xda have done it I'd say its possible.
So less rephrase my post for clarity, in general OTA Upgrades are not possible on rooted devices, but a number of users have reported successfully performing an OTA upgrades to 4.4.4 on rooted devices without losing root.
Hi, all.
Today I installed the PC companion on my computer, and I proceeded through the requisite steps to update to 5.0.2. It's currently in the updating process, but I just realized that I forgot to unroot it (I used KingRoot to root stock kitkat to avoid unlocking the bootloader) and I've heard that root can interfere with OTA's, causing them to fail. Has anybody here tried updating a rooted device "as is" (that is, without taking the time to unroot before OTA), and have you guys encountered any issues doing so, either in the process of updating or after the update has been completed? Just want to know if there are any consequences to what may be a mistake.
That's no problem at all

I use this thread instead of creating another one, I'm unlocked, should I update (once 5.1 is available) through pc companion, or is it not recommended? I remember not to accept any OTA, but I don't remember if it's safe to update via pc companion...

I have updated through PCC, never a problem. Here in the US.

Are you on unlocked bootloader?
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
I've updated my rooted device using the PC Companion, but it requires me re-locking the bootloader temporary, then unlocking and rooting it again after the update.
At the moment however there is no way to root 5.1
