S Health widget not updating anymore - Samsung Gear S

Hi all,
The S Health widget used to update every hour with the number of steps for the day and reset at midnight.
I just noticed today that it is no longer automatically updating every hour and only updates if I tap the widget.
I tried to look for a setting that I may have changed, but can't find how to change it back to updating every hour.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rich

Go into the S Health app on the gear and then pedometer settings, make sure you haven't paused it. Then go into the "Inactive Time" settings and check the setup there.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. I haven't paused the pedometer because it is still tracking on the Gear. And, when I tap the widget on the phone, it updates the steps shown on the phone widget. Also, the Gear alerts me if if I've been inactive for an hour.
But, if I don't touch the widget on the phone it never updates automatically like it did every hour before.

Seems to be an issue with the phone rather than the Gear. It sounds obvious but have you rebooted the phone?
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

Yes. I have rebooted numerous times for one reason or another.
I'm not sure if it's a setting somewhere that I need to toggle, or maybe Samsung updated the sure and is not stopped to auto update anymore, or a buggy installation.

Weather Widget

Is anyone elses weather widget not updating correctly? I go to a differnt city an hour away for work and it never changes to that city! And I have it set to my location. I even click refresh a thousand times and it doesnt change. The only thing that changes it is rebooting the device. Also sometimes it just says My Current Location.
What is your device? Probably you will need WiFi/mobile network to update your location.

Have u taken and deleted the widget and added it new again. There is one or two other checkbox options that u are asked for the first time u put it up.
At least on the ics/sense 4.0 rom I run on my 3d that's what the deal is. I would assume its the same for the official release.

This is getting real aggravating! The only way my weather updates my location is by rebooting the phone!! I have everything checked in settings. All the Location aI dont remember if it did this before I started using a Custom Rom or not. Does anyones weather update automatically wherever they go in real time? I dont know what to do anymore its driving me nuts! Help anyone?

Hhmmm....I havent noticed that at all. Ive noticed it with my WeatheBug App. Bug not the stock weather app...and u have everything under Locations in the settings checked?
EDIT....Now i dont know if its because i just woke up (But damn it felt good to sleep 2 extra hours, TIme to go golfing in Beverly at 11. Come join) so i dont know if this is due to the weather, but it seems everytime i head into a different town, i get a pop-up to select my time zone, so this way the time stays up to date. Im not sure if that what your talking about. I just checked my Setting inside the Weather app, and i was surprised to see that there was no check underneath "my current location"....Is that checked off for you?
Ha! What's up man. Ya I have all that checked! I get that time pop up too. Bug when I go to work in Norwood from.New Bedford my weather NEVER changes towns not even when I get to Norwood unless I reboot. What Rom are u on? I'm getting the SG3 in a few weeks too, but I'm gonna keep this phone too cuz I love it but this weather thing is driving me crazy.

Im having the same problem, it staring to bug me. Im coming up on day 14 on saturday so I wonder if anyone found out whats going on and if other people are having the same problem. By the way I live in Norwood.
You have to check current location when choosing the clock widget. Try deleting it and adding a new one and make sure to click current location. I had the same problem until I did this.

My weather widget app always shows that that the current weather is thunderstorms, regardless of where I am. I have to open it up and it'll refresh to sunny or cloudy. Then if I don't use by phone for a bit it'll go back to thunderstorms. I just checked and I didn't have currently location checked so that'll hopefully fix my issue.

never mind. I uninstalled gear mgr and that caused a complete wipe of my gear s and after re installing the gear mgr the text notification came back.
Confirmed, same thing happened to me and upon reading this thread I reinstalled Gear Manager and it's fine.
Weird and annoying as all the apps on the watch need to be reinstalled...

Are you leaving your phone at home when using the Nike app? Does the gps (on watch)work after the initial launch while by your phone? I'm trying to understand how this works

OK, here goes. 95% of my running is on a treadmill so initially I had an issue where the app would prematurely stop collecting data even though I was still running. It would usually stop around 20~40 minutes into my 60~70 minute run. After trying a bunch of things I realized you have turn off, un-select the gps feature when your on a treadmill. The other trick i use is the do not disturb option since I really am not concerned about notices when I am running. Now, I have usually do have my note 4 close by but I did try once using the gear w/o my note 4 and it recorded my run & synced with no issues. I love my gear s.

[Q] Dialer Battery Drain

I have an HTC Droid DNA on Verizon running Android 4.4.2 (for a while now) and it's been pretty solid until about two weeks ago. All of a sudden it has started eating battery like mad, and the battery info says that the dialer or android system are the largest users of battery. I'm talking like full charge in the morning to dead by mid afternoon PLUGGED IN TO MY COMPUTER. I'm down 10% battery in the last 1.5 hours with the phone charging. The phone is in global mode, the location is set to "battery saving," I have good signal here (East Sacramento, Ca). I found some old threads on similar battery issues and read through them, tried what they recommended. I reset the cache partition first, no dice. I did a factory reset, and that seemed to work for a few days, but now the problem is back. I can't reset every few freaking days or my life will be a constant loop of reentering passwords. Could this be some sort of virus with a really good rootkit? I'm at my wit's end. Anybody know what this might be? I'd appreciate any help y'all can offer. Thanks.
Disable any sync in settings, it sounds like an app is trying to sync your contacts and is having issues making dialer and system keep on trying to sync those for you. That is my only thoughts other than some rogue app doing something to call dialer and system as factory reset fixes it, so it has to be something in settings or an app that gets installed on your end.

Here goes . . .
Thanks for the quick reply. I live by sync, but I'll certainly try it and see what happens. Any idea of how I might figure out which app it is if that's the issue?

Seems not to Help.
So I've disabled sync, and I'm still losing about 1% battery every 1-3minutes. so I get roughly 2-3 hrs. battery from full charge at that rate, and plugging in while running only slows the bleeding. Under battery usage, Dialer is 45%, Android system is 33%, and Internet is 10%, followed by play services, linkedin and mediaserver for a combined 5%. Hmmm . . .

Hmm. Have you tried disabling location and WiFi location consent? It might be gplay services keeping GPS or WiFi scan on. I haven't had this issue in awhile as I just use greenify to sleep pretty much every app I have and important ones have gcm so they can wake for a quick email/text/etc check once in awhile.

Is this thread dead?
Having the same issue on my girlfriend's DNA; Dialer seems to account on the most battery drain.
Have you tried the suggested solution already? I never personally ran into this issue. Then again only my SIM syncs contacts and nothing else does as I am a privacy nut and don't want other services to know my contact list.

Yeah, tried unsynching everything.
Seems that the issue resolved itself when I cleared cache from recovery...
Then, instead of the dialer being the culprit; Android system was...
Planning on doing full factory reset this weekend.

Hi,
I just bought this watch and love it, upgraded this morning to 1.3.5. Looking at the change log it says:
Removed occasional Chinese voice prompt from lap alert
Does this watch support and audio prompt in the lap alert? For me it just vibrates and shows on screen my pace for the previous kilometer.
If you have the BT headset connected, yes.

Strange bug on amazfit
Hello, ive found something strange on my watch. We all know the option huami lab called 'ppg capturing'. Seems when you reboot the watch, this option is auto activated: i've seen many times my watch tracking my heartbeat while i was on my bed since the night. I've checked huami lab ppg capturing and resellected the cross and it is fine then.

Thanks for that, this can be useful since I noticed that battery autonomy was dicreased by this update. I'm sure this will improve it.
I'll wait for a few days, as usual, but if someone could check the couple of glitches I've had on 1.3.4f :
1. When changing the watchface on watch , by press&hold, it always scrolls to 1st one, so I have to swipe eternally to left to get to one wanted.
2. Sleep tracking was laughable from day one for me, it shows 4-5 hours of sleep per day, every day.
3. Some watchfaces were stopping the watch and touchscreen from working, when you choose custom background (on the watch itself)
Could someone check those, please?

If you enable Power saving mode then your device automatically kills background applications.
Try by disable power saving mode.
In settings, You will also manage that which apps show notifications and which are not.
All customization of notifications are avaliable in setting e.g. Notification on lock screen, notification on status bar, status bar icon. Hope it helps. Hit Thankx

I mean hard reset through stock recovery.
Be sure to remove your id otherwise you device stick in FRP lock.

This is a hard one for sure! Is it Android or is it Huawei? I think it's a combination of both! We all shouted praise when we first heard of Doze...but now we curse the day we heard of it! LOL
On most of my phones I have had issues with Gmail notifications not coming in as quickly as I thought they should, and I still experience slight delays on my Mate 10 (non-pro) version. However, it seems that after I open Gmail for the first time in the day and get my first notification then it works OK for the rest of the day. My texts, using Textra, always come in right away and I have both apps set up the same way on the phone pertaining to battery, background, and notifications. So Gmail is the harder one to get working as it should. But is it Doze, or is it Huawei and EMUI? Personally, I think it should be left up to one or the other but NOT both! And whichever one implements a battery saving feature should provide CLEAR and CONCISE instructions on making it work the way we want it to. Huawei has implemented several convoluted methods to the way battery saving and notifications work and they are not mutually exclusive...in other words, they can conflict with each other...that is bad enough. But when you layer this ON TOP of Android's Doze (which has no apparent way to configure it) this just leads to a mess in trying to figure out what is causing the delays! So then, I feel that Android to needs to take control of this issue and force all OEM's to follow a standard for battery control so that it is the same across the board no matter what phone we are using.

This is not an Android doze problem. Its Huawei battery management process killing all running apps. I had a sony xz premium running Oreo and not a single problem. Now I'm using Pixel 2 XL and not a signle problem. Its definitely Huawei that restricts notifications due to battery management. This is what stopped me getting the Mate 10 pro. Awesome phone but with notifications not coming through makes the phone useless
I also had the XZ Premium and I agree that it did not have this issue. But my Mate 10 (non-pro) really does not have it that bad. I really do not even notice it. I do shut off my phone every night. I have said in many different forums that I feel that a daily restart of all cell phones is good for keeping things running smoothly. Takes a minute of your time while brushing your teeth in the morning. Maybe this will help someone with more serious issues??
cmon people ...it's not that hard
...go to settings - battery - launch -
from there you can disable or enable specific battery management for each app to be able to launch, be launched by other apps and run in background
they are set to to be managed automatically by default, any app you are having issues being killed just open the launch settings and set them manually.
I set this up when i got the phone and i never have any issues with missing any notifications that i want to see plus my battery lasts for 2-3 days.

The problem with your reasoning is that Gmail is not listed there! This is the only one that seems to delay for me, but as I mentioned it is not that bad. Then again, I am not waiting for, or getting, anything in my personal email that needs super immediate attention. But there may be someone who needs their Gmail to notify them as soon as they receive an email. Thus the complaint!

I'm not surprised with Huawei and notifications problems.... This 2 goes together.
First with Mate 8 the first 4 months, then with Mate 9 the first 2 months and now with Mate 10 pro as you mentioned
To be honest I have Mate 10 (no pro) and from the first day I didn't have any problem with "stock mail app, Facebook, Facebook messanger, Viber, Twitter, Instagram, whatsup, weather widget"
But please try this one.... It was the solution I follow with Chinese version of Mate 9 : Open every app that you want instant notification and "locked" it to recent apps and keep it there.... If you have already try this then there isn't much more to do so think of a hard reset or change device.... As for Android 8 I have a s9+ together with Mate 10 and both are manage notifications perfectly....

That is an interesting proposition! I have never used that particular lock before...in fact I can honestly say that at first I didn't know what you were talking about. I guess I never paid any attention to the little lock on those previously opened apps. Not sure if it will work yet or not but I did mention that after I opened Gmail the first time it appeared as if the notifications came in properly. So if this works then I should not have to open Gmail first thing in the morning to get the notifications flowing! Thank you so much for this suggestion! :good:
