Is it possible to port some sort of app or maybe do some kind of work around to get google voice to work on gear s via wifi or data? I currently use my att gear s over straight talk network on the tablet 15 dollar a month plan so i dont have to change my plan and lose my unlimited data on my phone. If it could use google voice over 3g it would regain all the functionality i lost by not having a voice plan and be more awesome! Help devs plz
If ya ask Google reeeeeal nice ... maybe they'll do what they did for Apple and create something ... doubt it.
for now you can use opera mini to access the Google Voice mobile website on the Gear S

I am able to use my GV to call out and text on my watch I receive VMs call/texting I have no app on my watch but it works So 3 numbers (Phone/GV/watch) all work with watch. I can forward my GV to my watch alone or can use my phone for GV and phone number calls

if i use wifi to call, will it charge my phone minutes?

If you are using the wifi calling feature from T-mobile, it uses your minutes. If you're using some sort of voip solution while on wifi it will not. I have the same plan as you and I use GrooveIP for all calls while on wifi. The sound quality is OK. Some people complain about it, but it's definitely usable, and it keeps me under the 100 minutes of the plan. The other thing about it is that it uses google chat to complete the calls, so you have to have a google voice account (free) and people calling you will have to dial your google voice number. This wasn't a big deal for me since I was already using google voice and everyone used that number to reach me anyway, but if all your contacts have your cell #, you'll have to get them to start using a different number to call you. You can set up google voice so that it forwards all calls to your cell and to google chat simultaneously. Then set up GrooveIP to only work when on wifi. This way you'll get your calls whether on wifi or not. It also works on 3g/4g, or is supposed to. I didn't need to even try as unloading the calls when on wifi keeps me well under the 100 cell minutes, so I can't tell you about the quality of that.

It depends on where the call was started from. If your call originates on wi-fi and you have the feature on your plan then it is free to you. If the call originates on the T-Mobile network and you then go to a wi-fi call it will be using your minutes. YOU MUST have the free wi-fi calling feature on your account as well for it not to use your minutes.
This isn't specific to the Rezound, but how do you block your phone from receiving or sending text messages. I couldn't find the option on their website, nor any other guide for doing it.

that's basically it yeah. I called long ago to have them disable it. you pretty much should call for any adjustments. I also have it set so if I use up my minutes it automatically declines calls so I don't get charged overages. I have the cheapest 200 minute plan & mainly just use Skype.
You know if you go over you can just call and say you want to bump up to the next plan, no overages, then the following month you can go back down.
Is that the senior plan or whatever? The two hundred minute plan? Will theyvlet me on that because I don't use many voice minutes a month. If u do I could just use groove IP to make a few calls.

its a plan that's not officially offered anywhere, you'd have to call Verizon and ask them to put you on it. I didn't know about it myself until I called once asking if I could just have data only onmy plan stating that I don't really use my phone for calls. they wouldn't give me data only(unless it was for a tablet) but then said they had a special 200 minute plan instead which aaved me $10/month so I took that.
Quick ?, I am new to Verizon. If I use google voice for sms does that go against my sms plan? Also If I use skype that wont go against my minutes? One more, If someone calls me on my google voice number does that use my minutes? Thanks for any help. By the way I am loving this phone even more than my epic touch!!!!

I'm curious about this too cause I Just went over my 1000 text limit today and still have 5 days left in my cycle. Is like to use Gvoice if I can.

Google Voice uses only data. Your texts with GV do not count against your SMS limit.
Google Voice does not count toward your number of sms.
Skype does not count against your minutess.
Both count against your data.
Google voice forwards to your phone number, so it does use your minutes.

Hey everyone, so as you can tell, the Galaxy Player 5 has the phone speaker grill and microphone placed just as if it was a phone. However, I can't seem to find a way to get Google Voice to allow making VoIP phone calls over the Galaxy Player since there isn't a native dialer app built into the phone (from what I can see).
Anyone know a fix around this? I use an AT&T unlimited non-smartphone data plan + DUN connect to have my Galaxy Player connected via the 3G HSDPA network 24/7 and I used it to make calls on my iPod touch prior to picking up a Galaxy. I would love to do the same with this more "Phone-like" device.
If this isn't possible since there isn't a dialer associated with this first "Android" non-phone devs, is there any chance to spoof it into thinking that there is a dialer app so it enables the "Call with Google Voice" function? Considering that it's only using VoIP and not an actual carrier network to carry the call through (unless I'm completely confused lol which is possible).

If you get GrooveIP and combine it with the Google Voice app you can make and receive voice calls through a Google Voice account on the SGP. Many have had good results.

I need help... Where I live i get NOOO service on my nexus s 4g. I know there is internet calling but i have no clue on how to set it up so I can actually use wifi to make and recieve calls?? If anyone can please help me figure out how to set it up that would be AWESOME.. Cause I think google voice charges you... Thanx in advance!!!!!!

erm, maybe you can try viber? It has this feature though(although I've never used it)
Google Voice is free for calls in the US and possibly Canada IIRC. If you set up your Google voice number to not forward calls, and use the GrooveIP app. The Lite version will work fine for wifi only, but if you want to use 3G or find the app useful and want to support the dev while getting extra features, get the paid version.
Can you call numbers too or do you have to have the contacts themselves like skype?
Google voice is NOT a VOIP service, just a call forwarding service. You might want to give this thread a look.
:Edit: I didn't read spunker88's reply thoroughly enough. The thread I mentioned has a lot of information about setting up VOIP as he recommends.

Yes, you can call any US number, landlines or cell phones using GrooveIP which uses your Google Voice account. The app itself is done pretty well, it acts as a dialer and allows you to dial your phone's contacts through it.
Just be aware that this with this setup you'll have a separate phone number and you'll have to leave GrooveIP running while connected to wifi in order to receive calls.
This may be obvious to some but I figured I'd start a thread just in case any of you had missed it.
With the Opera Mini browser you can connect to the mobile versions of all of these sites and if you bookmark them they will show up on the start page of the browser.
This is especially handy if you use Google Voice as you can read messages and respond to texts straight from there.
Btw, if you use Google voice you don't need to worry about forwarding options on the Gear S because you can just add it to your list of phones and it will ring (and be transferable etc) just like any other GV phone.

Can you explain more in detail about Google voice. I don't have a plan on my gesr s. Are you saying I can get phone calls to my gear s without a mobile / data plan?

Sorry, you would still need a mobile / data plan.
Google Voice links all your phone numbers and gives you a central place for voicemail / texting.
So for example if you had...
A landline: (555) 555-1111
A cellphone: (555) 555-2222
A Gear S: (555) 555-3333
You could give people your Google Voice number (555) 555-4444 - that's the only number you'd ever need to give them because it will ring all your phones and if they send a text to that number it would go to both your cell and Gear S (and your computer).
I don't even know my house phone or cell phone number because I've never given them out to anyone - just my Google Voice number.
It also lets you block numbers (plays "This number is out of service") to cut down on junk calls (or calls from your ex )

I have a sim card and plan (Just because) my gear S number has now become my GV number. I recieve calls/text from all 3 although I personally use 2. Data would work on wifi only I don't pay for Gv so I'm not sure if there is a data plan but my talk/text is free

Good point, on Wifi (or tethered to a phone I suppose) you could / would receive txts on the Gear S as well as be able read voicemail but Google Voice isn't VOIP so you'd need a phone line of some sort to actually talk to someone (though you could initiate the call through the GV webpage via call back)
