iBOLT (note 3) to Nexus 6 - Nexus 6 Accessories

So I still have my iBOLT Dock and Drive Pro from my Note 3. When I plug the cable into my Nexus 6, it does not automatically flip into car mode. Is this expected? Is there something I am missing with the new Lollipop and care mode? Is it just not compatible? LOL. I hate to buy a new one, I paid $50 for the damn thing. I might just get an NFC tag and stick it to the dock if worst comes to worst.

Stock android doesn't have a car mode. Are you using their app?

[Q] Galaxy 10.1/Tranformer/Xoom?! Which one?

Hi all, trying to decide which tablet to get. Hoping to get some honest unbiased opinions. I am coming from an IPad 1 which i loved. Also, I have the $100.00 off staples coupon, however I can NOT get the Asus at 100 off. Everywhere I checked in my area would not honor the coupon because Staples does not have it in stock, I can only get the xoom or Samsung 100.00 off. SO I know most of the pros and cons of each but most reviews that favor the Asus like it because of the price cut. I am going into this with all 3 the same price (only difference being I can get a 32gb xoom at the price of the 16gb asus and samsung)
ASUS 16gb - 399.99
What I like about the ASUS:
Screen I read is the best.
Mini HDMI
SD Card
Lots of mod potential
CONS:
heavier
proprietary cable that i can not find for sale anywhere
large frame.
less than quality build
I dont care about the dock, probably wont buy it.
XOOM - 32gb - 399.99
What I like about the XOOM
Updates first
quality build
SD card slot
HDMI out
no proprietary cable
lots of accessories
CONS:
not the best screen
heaviest
seems to be a little slower than the others (not as responsive)
not a huge mod community
Galaxy Tab - 399.99 16gb
Pros:
light
quality build
smaller frame
optional keyboard if I want
nice screen
fast/responsive
good mod community
CONS:
proprietary cable
no SD Card slot (huge)
no HDMI out
So with all that said, any opinions/suggestions would really help. Like I said I have the 100.00 coupon and I hate to not use it. So with it I can get all 3 for 399.99 BUT if I choose the Samsung, I would probably pay the 499.99 for the 32 gig (using the 100.00 off) since it has no SD card slot which REALLY SUX. Id be using the tab for movie watching a lot, lots of web browsing, and some EBOOK/PDF mag reading mainly with light gaming and light music listening.
I REALLY need some help.
Honestly I had the same thoughts and just went with the GTab. Since this comes straight from Google you dont have to worry about updates, this tab is their flagship right now so we get updates before anyone. Not having a SD Card slot hasnt been an issue either. Forgot to mention I bought one from Best Buy for retail price, then I found one on eBay for $600 with a screen protector and the dock, took the one back to Best Buy. Basically what Im saying is, you can find a great deal on eBay for a brand new GTab with extras like I did and still came out cheaper. If I decide to sell it, I can sell it for the same price, or a little cheaper because I didnt buy the extra $35 dock nor did I spend the $36 in store taxes.

Actually the Xoom gets the updates first, not the GTab.
Anyway I had the Xoom, returned it for the Transformer, then returned the Transformer for the Galaxy tab 10.1. I will be keeping the 10.1 and love it.
The Xoom screen is TERRIBLE and it's way too heavy. And up until recently the Xoom was the most expensive tablet on the market, despite having the worst features.
The Transformer was just a big POS. Software was extremely slow on laggy, build quality was abysmal.
I have no need for microSD or HDMI so that was no big deal for me. what I wanted was a light tablet with a wonderful screen and high build quality. The Galaxy tab 10.1 is the only one that gives me that.
What the Xoom has going for it is that it is the first to get Honeycomb updates, and it's built like a tank (in a good way, meaning it's sturdy).
I would use the $100 Staples coupon and get the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Thankfully it is still shipping without Touchwiz, since I don't like how Touchwiz tries to make Honeycomb look like iOS (seriously Samsung, get off of Apple's nuts already, it's embarrassing).
I have both a TF and a Tab, I got the Tab from a local craigslist seller for $375 about a week before the coupon came out. I then got another Tab from Staples with the coupon for my son and he loves it. I didn't really need another tablet but I decided to try and get a TF from Office Depot for $299. The first OD wouldn't honor the coupon and the 2nd one I went to took the coupon with no hassle. I also bought the keyboard dock for the TF as well. I compared both tablets over the weekend and here are my thoughts:
- I had no build quality issues with the TF I got, it was put together great.
- I fried the TF on day 2 trying to root and install cwm so I had to exchange it for another one at OD. In my opinion the Tab is much easier to root and install custom roms but it may be just that I'm not familiar with the process on the TF.
- The screen on the Tab beats the TF hands down. The Tab has the best screen I've ever seen on a tablet, even nicer than my iPad.
- The size and form factor of the Tab is fantastic, again no comparison.
- The only thing the TF really has in it's favor is the built-in micro sd card slot and hdmi connector, plus the keyboard dock that provides a 2nd battery. For those advantages you are carrying a heavier tablet. I got the Samsung USB adapter from BB and now I can read micro sd cards on the tab. You wouldn't want to use the Tab with the USB adapter but you can copy files to/from the micro sd card into the Tab's internal memory so that helps overcome the 16gb. I liked the USB adapter so much I bought a 2nd one to keep at work, they are only $20 each. It works with every USB stick I tried and even my SD card reader with a 32gb SD card. So going on a trip I can load a bunch of movies onto a memory stick and copy them onto the Tab when I want to watch them and delete them when I'm done. The HDMI port is totally useless for me as I have no use case for plugging the tablet into my TV.
- The TF has serious charger issues. Asus is using a higher voltage than a standard USB port therefore it won't charge with any other USB adapter. This really sucks, and they are charging too much for a spare adapter if you can even find them. The Samsung uses a standard USB wall wart. You can plug it into any USB wall charger and it will trickle charge. It will have an "x" on the battery like it's not charging - but it is! It is slow charging, if you don't believe it, leave it connected all night and you'll be at 100% in the morning. I also purchased a little dongle adapter that tricks the Tab into going into real charge mode with any USB wall wart. I also have Samsung's USB car charger that I leave in my car and it charges everything, including the Tab and my iPhone. As far as I know Asus doesn't offer a car charger for the TF. The TF also won't work with standard USB extenders, you have to order special ones for USB 3.0, where the Tab works with any USB extender.
So at the end of the day the Tab is the winner....

Well said *golf clap*. I completely agree with this post and could not have said it better myself. I was kinda upset that I only got the 16gb model but after a few days I figure it really is not that big a deal. Everything that this post says about the adapter I was thinking as well. By the time I would fill up this 16gb model I may be ready to buy another one and pass this off to my wife and daughter for kid games/apps which they won't need much space for.
The way the GT feels in your hand is fantastic, if you want a laptop get a laptop, if you want a tablet get the GT or iPad (yikes I know) or BB Playbook since they are all portable tablets and feel great in your hands.
My take Galaxy Tap 10.1
All aside... OK the Motorola has the ports, however the galaxy has the add on and would do the same....Screen quality is far greater and overall construction including wait is a no brainier...
I am still Loving my Tab...What makes it better I have a two year warranty.
I think I'm sold on a G Tab. Thx u guys!
Also you can get knock-off USB cables for the Tab from eBay for like 3 dollars. I had the previous 7" tab and bought a bunch of generic USB cables from eBay and they work great on the Tab 10.1. Now I wouldn't recommend doing ROM installs with the knock off cables, but for charging and file transfering they work like a charm! By the way all the adapter stuff from the 7" Tab works great with the 10.1 model, including the car charger. And you can buy all the chargers/cables/etc. from any AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile store because they carry the 7" Tab.
Had the Asus Transformer and went throught 4 because i was convinced it was the tablet for me. When i took number 4 back, that is when i decided it was time to Tab. I swallowed the extra dollars and got the 32gb. I had purchased a 32gb sd card for the Asus and knew that was plenty roomy for media. So i decided to stick with the feeling of 'plenty of room.' The form factor difference is just crazy extreme. The Tab feels much better in the hands, which is where it is 90% of the time.
Accessory wise, Samsung has alot more out and its been on the market the least between the 3 mentioned. He Samsung keyboard dock is alot closer to full size compared to TF dock. I found myself aways having to disable the track pad on the TF and aim the fingers much more norrow. You will tyoe faster than the full touch keyboard, but not by much. The battery on the keyboard was only useful on the 3 new TF i had to update amd restore out of the box. They aways seemed to be low on battery out of the box. I think the keyboard battery suuplement would only be useful on extensive travel and use.
Lastly, yes the Xoom and Asus have ports. But what good is a tablet if its connected to something? It certainly isnt mobile. So to me the adapters make perfect sense. You only want that stuff once in a while. Why should you carry the extra bulk and weight with you all the time? You shed those ports and internal junctures and you have a tablet as light and thin as the GT. Add it when you need it and disconnect it when done. 32gb and 16gb are alot of space and if you managw what you really need vs want, you wont miss the expandable storage. There are also lines of wifi 500gb pocket drives with batteries. I truly think that will be the future vs sd card. Larger capacity and group sharing friendly. No more passing the stick around to copy.
All in all the GT is a great experience and youll only be disappointed if you just cant stand it that people have ports and you have an adapter.

Docks

Anybody use either the car or home dock for the X2. Are they worth the $25?
I use the desk dock. Before the gingerbread update, I hated it because the default notification sound played when you connected it and for me, it kept playing it randomly while plugged in. With the update, they disabled that from playing at all (it was completely unnecessary to begin with).
If you do decide to get it, I would suggest getting the Droid X Essentials pack. It can be found on Amazon.com for around $50 and it includes the desk dock, car dock, HDMI cable, wall charger, and car charger.
The desk dock is nice, and if you have a standalone gps or a universal car mount, you can get the dock, hdmi cable for only 28 dollars on amazon...if you need the car mount, obviously go with the pack, but i already had a universal clamp so i saved the 22 dollars, and I love the dock.
Not to hijack, but does anyone know if the X2 dock will fit the Bionic? Really don't want to get it, if I'm going to have to get a new one in a month or two..

There's always a chance, but the bionic looks a bit thicker, and since it may be webtop capable, the ports may be reversed or spaced differently. It's totally worth the $20, and i'll buy it from you for 15 if it ends up not fitting in a month or two ;D
I have the car dock and am very happy with it. I like it way better then the compression mount I had with my old phone.

Official Samsung i777 dock now available

You can buy it here for 49.99 (plus tax) and get free 3-day shipping. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D1D3BEGSTA
It's not up on any 3rd party retailer websites but they will most likely be up later this week.
Good share, I wonder if a generic one would work as well....
I wonder if it actually allows a connection to a computer unlike the Captivate one... From the looks of the product pages it seems that this doesn't either. If it's just a charging dock with a speaker, it's not something I'd pay $50 for.
They also have the car dock in stock as well!

Odd. Last night I got an email notifying me that the item I had on backorder watch was off of backorder. I placed my order when I posted this thread and it went through, I got the email and everything, but when I check my account for any recent orders/processes, there is nothing. Maybe there was a glitch in the system to accidentally show that they were in stock
Edit: I got the shipping confirmation. It looks like they really are out of stock already.

I ordered the EVOPower Dock from amazon last week. I can confirm it works. Plus it has a slot for a back-up battery-not tested it yet.
I just got my shipping notification with tracking # at around 1:15pm PST today. Ordered both the desk dock & car dock. Due to arrive here on Thursday!
Edit: ordered about 4am PST, both docks were in stock at that time, but not the spare battery.
$50 when I can just plug in the wires to my phone hmmm. Guess one day ill care enough to blow $50

Any docks out there that allow space for a case?
That is what I was going to ask. Can you use either the official samsung one or the evopower dock with a case on your phone?
I have the samsung desktop dock but can't load the samsung desk home software... what do you guys use? I just want a nice clock with an alarm i can set.
Do you have a case on yours and will it fit with one on?
Will not fit with a case. I try not to use a case I like the stock size.
FYI to get samsung desk home app the dock tells you to download you have to remove your att sim and use wifi or it won't show up in the market. Hopefully they fix this.

I was able to find the app by searching "Samsung Desk" while on HSDPA+
You want to search ebay for Zenis dock. This is covered quite a bit in the SGII accessories forum. It works with or without a case. Since the ATT version is so close to International version I bet this will work just fine. A lot of positive reviews on this dock. Here's a sample link
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-GAL...764389?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19c820a2a5
This dock performs admirably as a charging station for my i777, and it looks great doing it. It feels solid too, in a good way. However, I bought it to be more than a charging station.
The backside of this dock has a micro USB port (for charging) and a 3.5mm stereo out port. Unfortunately, when docked, only the USB portion works. (Yes, I configured my phone to always use the external speakers when docked.) The blue LED on the bottom-right corner of the front size of the dock is supposed to indicate when your phone is docked, but mine flickered. Constantly. Audio coming from the stereo out port was also extremely scratchy. The audio and the blue LED appear to be linked, so it seems there's a short in the male-end of my brand new dock's micro USB port.
I could have returned the dock, but it was back-ordered when I discovered the problem and I didn't really care to wait for another. (Yeah, that's on me.)
I discovered that I could get a solid blue notification and clean audio if I tilted my phone forward a couple of degrees in the dock, so I've modified it accordingly. My phone now sits ever-so-slightly more-vertical in the dock and works as it should, but my fix wasn't the prettiest in the world. I took about 25 pages off the top of a book of small Post It notes, used a marker to color the top page and sides black, then used Scotch tape to tape it to the top part of my dock's cradle. (See attached picture)
Another minor complaint: Plugging a 3.5mm stereo plug into your phone itself triggers a system event that headphones have been inserted, but docking your phone into a dock with a 3.5mm stereo plug plugged in does not. Where's the consistency there?
i bought what i think is the same thing for 34.99 on Amazon. i'm sure it was listed as being for the ATT GS II, but the box reads Galaxy S. it works and does what i needed it to. it's official Samsung, but i can't say if there's a box that has the II on it. it looks like i have to take the case off to use it, but i want it to hold the camera for me, so it's not every day use.
Is that a rapid prototype/3D printed Android mascot!?
Can you plug the dock into an AC outlet and just use it as a charger? I don't want to plug it into my PC just a wall outlet.

Anyone selling their docks or know a cheap place to get them?

Like the title says, if anyone is selling theirs or knows a good price for it, let me know!
Walk into a Verizon Store. I just purchased the mobile cradles for my RZnd and my wifes TB for a whomping $40. I know if you purchase three accessories, you get a discount. The vehicle Cradle for the RZnd is actually quite nice. The power attaches to the cradle and a static connector is built into that. Just doc the phone and plug in the headphone jack and your off. I KNOW this is not a desk dock but it can be used as one. The desk dock was NOT that expensive.. I think $20...
I went in the store and the the $50 dollar deck for 20. The warehouse mispriced the deck @ $30 + a $10 dollar discount I got 8). I'm not too sure if they corrected the prices, so it's worth a shot.
For anyone in the same boat as me, check this out:

What exactly do docks do besides be another charger?
I'm living on a yellow submarine
I have had two of the car docks now and both did not work properly causing a drain instead of the charge on my phone. For example, when playing Pandora with the screen always on and set to 4g, the battery dropped by 10 - 15 % in 30 mins of use. When I plugged it directly to the car charger under the same conditions I got a positive charge going from 60% to 100% in 30 Mins. Same results on 3g. Either the store got a bad batch or something is wrong with my phone. Taking both back tomorrow.
Desktop Dock a must have accessory
Got mine at the Verizon Store when I picked up my Rezound on opening day (Nov. 14th). Glad I did as it now appears to be a scarce item to find. Some helpful hints should you find one, you can change the 3 default apps in "dock mode" by accessing the link through the "Clock" app. You cannot remove or change the default music app in dock mode. It is a must have accessory if you have a Rezound, and is designed to work with standard or extended battery attached. Good luck in your hunt!
Does it still fit with a tpu or silicone case on it? Also anyone tried using this as a car dock with a usb connection to the car stereo? My car stereo has a usb hookup and I would like to use that for charging and music(less wires) but my stereo seems to have a problem with docks between it and the device, my ipod wont work with its standard dock but works fine with just the wire.
In regards to using the desktop dock with a case on the phone, I would have to say probably not. The phone sits pretty snuggly in the dock, and if there was a case on it, it would possibly not fit correctly/deep enough in the dock tray to properly seat the power connection. As for using the desktop dock in a car, I guess it would be possible with a usb/car charger connection and some velcro to mount it. However, since the phone sits in the dock at an angle, it would depend on your dashboard layout to obtain the best viewing angle while driving/in sunlight. If you manage it, post some pics!
Great the car dock drains the battery and the desk dock would require me removing my case every time. Awesome. Nothing ever just works, except the phone, the phone is awesome.
I'm feeling like the accessories are lacking because this is a verizon exclusive.
HTC need to step the accessories game up like motorola has. We need docks with hdmi output. We need powered car docks. We should have easy options to dock this thing next to a tv and use it like a netbook with a bluetooth keyboard without a tangle mess of adapters.

Anyone experiencing issues with the Motorola Navigation Dock?

I purchased the 89529N Motorola Navigation dock and for some reason it's not recognizing my Droid Razr.
I watched several videos on youtube and it showed the Razr entering car mode as soon as placed into the dock and the sliding micro-USB plug inserted.
While my droid recognizes that it's charging, it doesn't enter Car Mode, does not launch the Motorola Car Finder app upon removal nor does it output audio via the USB-Audio Cable.
I've spent some time looking to see if other people are having this issue and the only other report I've found is a review on the product via Amazon:
amazon.com/Motorola-89525N-Vehicle-Navigation-Charger/product-reviews/B005W8NLG0/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar
I have now gone through 3 of these docking stations. I WANT it to work but after the phone snaps into the mount (nicely managed) there is a squared black slider that has the male USB end that is supposed to slide into the top of the phone's USB port. This connection was flaky in the first two units i purchased and i ended up needing to slide a business card in behind the phone to put enough pressure to cause the phone Car App to start and for the port to think it had a power cable inserted...
The business card approach finally quit working this morning (11.21.2011) so I took the unit into a local Verizon Store and showed them. This happened with 3 RAZR phones from the store so it was not the phone. I then ended up going through 3 of the car dock boxes and the first two ALSO had this problem. The third unit worked but i had to push the black slider back a tad to put some positive pressure on it before it will slide into the phones USB port...
I need this thing to work. I want the Car Nav App to start and for the phone to charge... Verizon, you need to take a look at the design of this device. The quality of it seems fine. It is sturdy and mounts wonderfully but the slider idea seems to be a problem.

So, does anyone else with this dock have the same problem?
I had the same issue with mine. It worked for the first few days then it tanked. Returned to Verizon for another unit. This one has been working for the past.
Check the RAZR forums on the Motorola support site and there are several other folks that have been experiencing the same issue.
No problems at all with the car dock. I use it daily and it has always worked as advertised.
How long is the power cable the comes with the version of the car dock that comes with a power cable?
If it's not super long I may just buy the cheaper version of the dock.
I had the same problems with my first dock. I returned it and got another and so far so good. A couple of times it's failed to recognize the phone, but sliding out the usb and putting it back usually fixes it.
I bought the car dock and so far it works perfect. I drove about 1100 miles over the holidays, and it worked perfectly the entire trip with a CHEAP generic micro USB cable and CHEAP generic car charger from monoprice.com Phone was running GPS and nav the whole time and I was impressed that it never got hot or too warm (just EVER SO SLIGHTLY warm. My old HTC Incredible would get hot as hell running GPS for several hours)

I did have the problem when I first received the dock. After studying the dock I realized the bottom plate can be removed. I did just that and the holder works great. Can even use it with the protection case.
I've also had my car dock for some time now and have been using it with a commuter series OtterBox. I've seen no problems with it, in fact while running Google navigation since the new update I've not seen any substantial overheating issues at all. Overall I'm very pleased with its operation. It is a little disconcerting to hear several of you have had problems with it.
I have not had any issues with this dock. The HD dock, yes but so far I love this navigation dock over the one my Thunderbolt and Original Moto Droid had. However, where do you people find this USB/Audio cable? I purchased the mount right from verizon and it did not come with it. Can't seem to find the cable anywhere either.
h1p1n3: http://www.store.motorola.com/dp/B005NDKQ3K
It doesn't have a picture and the description makes it sound like a basic usb cable that's really expensive, but I ordered it for the same reason you are and I can assure you that it is a basic USB cable that's really expensive... with the audio dongle on the end. At $20 it's a bit of a rip-off, but it's what you need.
mine works like a champ, it gets used on a daily basis.

You can add an app of your choice on the "Music" page of the Navigation app.
Thanks found it! i hope Moto will update the Car Dock so you can choose your own software
I don't have my Razr yet to test this, but try the Car Home Ultra app. It's fully customizable and can be launched by the dock.

I've had my car dock now for about a month, and it works like a charm for me. Car Home Ultra is a great app and you can add a bunch of different apps to it's home screen so you can set it up the way you want.
I have 2 car docks it use to work on both now it doesn't work on either of them, ever since i re flashed using 9.8.2O-124_SPUL-18_Rogers_P005_A006_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml.
