Thanks!! sorry i can't post in there.. still newbie..
using the NRT to unencrypt my N9. used it on my n6 earlier and it went flawless. For some reason, it's not working on the N9. all it does is basically reboot. I tried to do it manually. no go. followed the instructions, when i try and do a format user data through NRT, it doesn't do it. but again it works fine on the N6. Im not even sure its properly flashing the kernel(no encrypt) that it says it is. the toolkit says it all went perfect.....but it lies. I love NRT, greatest thing that ever happened to nexus, but this one has me stumped. probably cause im a noob. whatever. Will try a couple of other things. So, i went the NRT route, no go, flashed it through the fastboot flash tool in NRT, then did the format userdata too in NRT, no go, am trying one more method that I tried with the N6 that didn't work but I had progress with, who knows. thanks ahead of time for anyone who helps out.
I even flashed stock and unrooted (stock to 5.0.1) and then went back and immediately tried to use the no encrypt option, and nothing happened. it went through the process and said it worked but as soon as it booted, my notifications from my account all popped up so I knew instantly there wasn't actually any user data formatted. sure enough not here is the live log in a text file on this post and a screen shot of tablet details.

Thanks WugFresh
Easy as pie... well, as long as you know what you are doing.
Thanks so much for the NRT for the Nexus Devices... I have been a long time fan (since Galaxy Nexus) and really appreciate you adding the N9 to the mix, and helping me remove the forced encryption...
cheers... again !!!
Wrong thread
Feel silly for asking this but I updated from LM4YX TO LM4YI using the toolkit today (mistakenly selected my current build as LM4YI instead of LM4YX) and now my N9 only reboots into recovery every time. Tried repeating the process a couple of time but no luck. Hoping there is a quick solution to this. Thanks.

Tried to restore stock too many times I guess, process failed midway during one of them and device is hard bricked. First time ever this has happened to me.
No reply or help?

Since you have a HTC One M8 you might want to try the M8 version or follow this post: http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-root-your-htc-one-m8-0154444/
Thanks and a note about Sprint HTC One (M8)
First, thanks for Windroid.
This root worked. I'd suggest, for newcomers like me, that you make a little clearer that a person does have to install one of the ROMS, since initially I skipped that step and tried to go straight to rooting, as I'd done on an LG tablet. But once I figured out the ROM was required, it went smoothly.
One other note: Dunno why, but after the root it appears that the M8, and perhaps other HTC phones, balk at installing busybox. The solution is recommended elsewhere in this site, but it's buried among suggestions that proved fruitless to me. Use the busybox on rails installer.

[Q] hdx toolkit (rooting/ota block) not working for me

sorry, this was meant to go into troubleshooting not general. Please delete.

Can this be used as individual steps? Like if one just wants root, so they would just do step 3?

Yes
works like its supposed to

Unfortunately it does not work for the Verizon variant, XT1528, due to it being ineligible for Motorola's unlock program.

I will download this, and then I will place the file on a flash drive, and then I will swallow it, thus beginning my software update process.
I will become Nougat.,
