Gs4 ng rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys,
I wanted to get a ROM on my gs4, but as far as I can see, there is a problem.
Will any ROMS work with the NG6 Kernel. I have rooted it using the root method by Muniz HERE(Flashing NC5, then back to NG6). I want either hyperdrive or stock android. Please help.

What dont u just revert back to NC5 and then just install custom roms . As far as i know the Safestrap Recovery works on nc5 it does not work on ng6..

I end up in a soft brick with it saying something with the kernel being invalid, then I have to go back to NG6.

Safestrap 3.75 works with ng6 from what I have read. I agree though, downgrade to nc5. Ng6 is so buggy it isn't worth it.

[Q] System software not authorized HELP!!!,

I updated from ME7 to MJ7 with success than I flashed philz recovery with the root tools app and got the message
Secure fail: kernel
" system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help."
After I managed to boot back into my stock rooted phone and flashed CWM from rom manager and with no luck got the same message.
What do you think I should do? I really don't want to have to Odin back to stock and root with root de la Vegas again.
Discard when upgrading is very dangerous. You may have to Odin back to stock and root de la Vegas again
is your phone originally mdk base and you are loki'd? if not, the ONLY recovery available is safestrap. You will have to ODIN your phone and do some reading

My phone was loki'd and than I updated and must of lost it so I guess I'm going to have to use safestrap?

if you took the update, you are screwed with custom recovery except for safestrap
So if I have safestrap I have to have a backup of the stock rom right? Or can I just install a custom rom and get rid of the stock rom?

Read the Safestrap threads. The answers to your questions are complicated, particularly the "get rid of the stock rom" since that's possible but risky.
YOU will need to judge whether or not you will take that risk based on understanding how Safestrap works.

Always back up the stock rom.
Like he said read up.
It gets complicated. I'm running Hyperdrive on my stock slot but there are risks.

to me the risks of losing the stock rom isn't worth it...especially if all this is new to you. You can always go back in the future and do i

You're definitely right there. I had to play the Odin game myself and I think for the time being HD11 is going to serve as my stock and I'm going to use Rom slots from now on.

Noob- Flashing Rom for 1st time (i545 NK1)

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to flash my Verizon S4 i545 for the first time. I have the NK1 Build on it. So far, I've rooted it with towel root and have safestrap 3.75 installed.
From doing my research it seems that having the NK1 build prevents me from flashing some roms such as CM11. All I really want from my s4 (had it since launch) is to have the best performance and battery life possible. I'm not looking to do anything fancy beyond that. From some online reading, it seems Hyperdrive might be the best rom for my needs.
How can I go about installing the Hyperdrive rom? (which version should I look out for considering I have NK1)
What precautions should I take before attempting to install?
What other custom roms can I install onto my S4 NK1 build?
Thank you in advance!
I hace the same thing, and muy SE is enforcing. I dont know if that is important.

Honestly, you should downgrade back to nc5 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 You won't be able to install any CM or AOSP rom since you're not on mdk. Hyperdrive is a good rom. Echoerom and Eclipse are solid as well. They're also based on nc5 and you'll likely not have too many problems if you downgrade back.
Hi i try ti downgrade to nc5 and did not Work the phone freeze. I try hyperrom i like it but WiFi never Work and have to do a restore and lost root and safestrap, i think i cant go back to nc5
Nevermind i did it but stay on nk1

If i downgrade should be stable?, nc5 has better compatibility?, please help i am now nk1 rooted SS installed and ready yo flash, i try hyperdrive but WiFi was broken another good ROM ?? I like vainilla android por nexus experience thx
I was on nk1 and I was able to flash Echoe Rom v29 using safestrap. I tried downgrading to nc5 but it was too buggy to flash a rom the phone just kept restarting.
This is the rom that I used just scroll down to the one for i545:

If you use the full wipe nc5, it shouldn't be buggy. It's like having a clean slate. For myself, I've always had better success from nc5 than nk1.

You'll need wifi modules for echoe. There's a lot you need for echoe but it is the better rom imo. I'm using 39.1

thanks. So would it be an accurate statement that at this point in time, unless someone just wants a stock rooted nk1, there's really no point in rooting an nk1 because you just need to downgrade to nc5 anyway, and then re-root again, in order to flash any custom roms; And you do not need root to downgrade via Odin, correct?

For me it's just preference. Most roms are nc5 based. There are modules and fixes out for those on nk1, but for me, I have always had issues with it. Downgrading to nc5 eliminated the problems. You still need to flash modules and wifi fixes, but I find it to be far more stable. No, you don't need to be rooted to use Odin. If you do plan on downgrading, I would suggest the full wipe. Some have experienced issues with the non wipe. Hope all this helps.

Do the full wipe nc5, it should take care of it. The non wipe is hit or miss when it comes to problems.

We can't flash cm or any aosp roms. Our phones are locked down. There might be 1 or 2 GPE roms that will work with some tweaking. Other than that, we are stuck with TW based roms

Yeah i noticed that lol, at least i've been learning a lot of things about how to flash, odin, the bootloaer, the roms, firmware etc. I managed to install hyperrom's last version and it's pretty decent. Fcuk Verizon btw
You can use SuperNexus ROM. It works with safestrap. You can also use Kitpop ROM.

[Q] Help upgrading Safestrap to use newer rom

I haven't kept up much since since I installed safestrap 3.72 on ME7 and started using the Jellybeans rom. I'd appreciate if someone could answer a few questions I have after trying to read up on stuff.
I'd like to try the kitpop rom and it requires safestrap 3.75 a03 and NC5 or NK1. My main question is can I use my ME7 based rom still if I upgrade? I also read that the newest safestrap doesn't like backups from older versions, so is there a safe way to upgrade and keep my rom slot intact?
Thanks

Once you go to nc5 or nk1, as far as I know you won't be able to go back to me7. With the other question, I'm not on 3.75 so I'm not sure about back up issues.
I know I won't be able to get my phone back to ME7, but will it prevent an ME7 based rom from working in safestrap if I upgrade to NC5.

If you are on nc5 and flash to older than nc5 (and nc2) like a 4.3 mk2 rom, it won't work and you'll have to Odin back to nc5.
Brian
Thanks. Guess I'll stick with what I have, never been too adventurous with my phones.

[Q] Updating with Root Lollipop Questions

Hi guys, came home to find that the Lolipop ROM seems to have hit my phone.
I'm running 4.4.2 NK1 (Safestrap) on stock. I rooted using the Odin method of temporarily changing back to NC5 to root with TowelRoot then flashing NK1 back.
My questions are
Is there currently a way to keep root for my device when updating to Lollipop
Is there a way of reverting back to 4.4.2 NK1 if anything bad does happen.
I have a NANDroid backup if that helps me.

Hi,
You'll lose root (in other words: You should root again). You can go back to 4.4.2 NK1 as long as you have an EFS backup from KK.
