Wont boot - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys my friend has gs3 and when he has trying to install a mod got it stuck in a boot loop. We tried wiping dalvic cache and hard resetting it but to no avail, finally we downloaded paranoid android to flash a new rom but twrp gave us a message saying unable to mount preload we then used odin to reflash cwm and try again but the device freezes at the boot animation. We have decide to try and flash the stock firmware using odin tomorrow. However we have no clue if it is going to work.
Any help is appreciated.

Factory reset after flashing stock firmware, if that doesn't cure them try the rescue firmware from the thread in general forum.
If your friend flashed a mod designed for a different model number then it could be hard bricked.

Flashed the stock firmware but now it wont accept the sim card and no other rom will work
Is it possible the boot loader is locked?

No, the i9300 bootloader isn't locked apart from Chinese stock firmwares.
Without any information on what your friend did to the phone it isn't possible to say what is broken.
Check the imei and serial number match the ones under the battery.

[Q] Galaxy S 2 Boot Error

Hi Everyone! just a rookie here in need of a bit of advice.
I'm a Galaxy S II I9100 owner and have my phone rooted and all setup with custom roms and been comfortable with flashing for some time now. My ROM of choice recently was Vanilla Rootbox and have to say the ROM has been fantastic with very few bugs to report. Last night i recieved the OTA update via Goo Manager for Vanilla Rootbox 3.4. I downloaded the full update over wifi and flashed with all wipes no worries. Next step was to flash the latest GAPPS and i figured there would be nothing wrong with flashing the GAPPS zip i had on my sd card that i had downloaded the last time i was notified of a GAPPS update via Goo manager as well. After flashing, wiping everything and rebooting again. My phone then booted up to a series of dialog boxes indicating that many google processes had stopped functioning. apps.google.com etc etc. A similar error has been reported in the Vanilla Rootbox thread by another user but i wasnt able to report this bug their either because my post count is too low to post in a development forum. So after seeing this error i rebooted into recovery to flash my last backup but CWM recovery came back with an error messaging stating it couldnt mount either ext or int sdcard. i did a factory reset which made no difference to the problem whatsoever. I then downloaded ODIN and the latest stock ICS Rom and flashed it via ODIN with no reported errors. My phone now boots through the optus boot animation and is stuck at the Galaxy S 2 screen with the flashing red and yellow animation over the S. If i turn off the phone with the power button, the phone turns off and immediately starts again and gets stuck at the flashing s screen. I've taken the battery sim and ext sd card out and put it all back in only for the problem to persist.
If anyone could help me there's a donation and my thanks in it!
Much appreciated
Nick
tried to re flash another stock ROM?
If so, tried factory reset the phone after the flash?
As long as you can get to DL mode, you are good to keep on flashing till you are up & running.
And then you got this
Remember to update your kies and make sure you close it all up before flashing with odin. If you are in 4.0.4 beware of the brick bug.

Kies has never been installed on this computer but i did use the usb drivers mentioned in the soft brick recovery guide you linked. I used some information from the guide to flash this stock rom but i couldnt flash or wipe the partition because im unsure where to get the .PIT file required? i cant get past the boot animation so no factory reset possible and yes i can still get into download mode!

wow wow, leave pit files alone for now, they are nasty.
What stock ROM did you flash? 4.0.4 or 4.0.3?
You can factory reset via recovery mode.
Try installing kies anyway, it can't never hurt. Just make sure all applications are closed before you re-flash.
here's jb leak, might help:

Right so i flashed I9100XWLP8 stock rom (4.0.3). Just then i flashed Siyah Kernel and attempted to use the factory reset function in recovery there, i get a message down the bottom mentioning that it can't mount my internal SD.

[Q] TWRP bootloop

While I did find a similar posts, they were for different devices. I also tryed to search o different sites for similar problems to no avial.
What Happened: After backing up system data and app data then removing Foxhound ROM with factory reset, and installing UltimaROM i came to find that the modem did not install correctly result in no connection to my cell network. I booted into TWRP recovery to try and do a re-install of the ROM only to find that TWRP was restarting itself every 3 seconds or so. I attempted to restart the device which i found to result in a TWRP bootloop that i cannot get out of, it constantly is booting into recovery mode and i cannot get it restart the OS.
What I've tried: Since i can get into download mode i decided to attempt to re-install TWRP using Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit but since i do not have USB debugging on i cannot do that. I'm mainly looking for a fix before i go and claim it on the warranty saying update went bad or something. If people need more information I will try to provide it as best i can.
Summery if i confused people is that TWRP is in a bootloop, i am unable to get to the OS, but i still have download mode available.
I fixed it but not how I would have liked to. I ended up losing all data due to flashing stock ROM using ODIN. I would still much appreciate a alternative method that does not involve loss of data though just for future reference, that is if anyone knows a alternative method.

could've tried reflashing TWRP or any other recovery through odin
I have an LG Optimus Q (LGL55c) with twrp loop. I was trying to go back to stock rom, instead I deleted all the system files in twrp when it was working...Then I rebooted back into recovery and get the loop. Does this mean I completely bricked my phone? I tried using adb, adb shell doesn't work. It does find the device. Even tried the LG update with no sucess Any ideas or suggestions?
I just read the forum title, I thought this was for the Optimus Q not the Samsung S3. Sorry mods
Temasek unofficial cm12 5.02
I was running this rom when my power button shorted and I got it replaced but then I tried to do a complete wipe and clean flash but since then it has been twrp bootlooping, tried to flash the latest recovery through Odin but still doesn't work also tried stock firmware flash but says binary not available.
This is my secondary device and I've not been in touch with Odin for a while. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Download latest firnware from sammobile.com and flash it with Odin, as described on sammobile: does Odin finish with '1 succeeded'?
I'm in a very similar situation, but with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7105). It's rooted, and I am, or was using TWRP 2.7.0.2. ROM is CyanogenMod 12, 5.0.2 Lollipop.
I did a factory reset from INSIDE Android, and chose to wipe internal memory. Phone did the reset and wipe, rebooted into TWRP instead of Android, and now I have TWRP boot loop.
I posted more about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60247503&postcount=3671
I have the Problem toooo!
What must i do Now!
with my S3 is the same!!!
For posterity:
With an old (2014?) version of TWRP and a custom ROM, I tried reverting to factory settings. That caused the phone to reboot TWRP, and the screen would flash every couple of seconds. I flashed a stock recovery image I found on Google, and when it restarted again, the wipe was completed successfully. My intention was to wipe all user data anyways so I can't say if this method might save it.

Loop S3 LTE

Hi, been reading lots about guides spent 3hr trying to flash my S3 LTE, prob was i tried cynagen 10.1, didnt like interface, so i tried to reflash a custom 4.1.2, that i used before. This is UK model. I had CWM on before ,Seems now i have get a loop on sumsung logo after every flash. I have tried diff roms the one i used before same thing. It doesnt have cwm on as i wipe and delte data and when i reboot with battery out it just show stock recovery. So I used odin to put cwm so i can wipe/ clear cache try install roms from sd but same loop.message says install aborted from sd install. I have even just tried kies a few times on recovery and still get loop. My counter is showing 12 now so dont know if taking it back to shop will get warrenty repair. any ideas where the problem is, as maybe i tried cyn 10.1 1st time and it got stuck on spinning logo as i didnt wipe/delete user data 1st. am at a loss of how to just flash any rom on to get it to work. Thanks also i have used odin to flash roms on but still same loop.
Flash stock Rom with Odin
Boot into 3e recovery and do factory reset
Are you sure you are flashing stuff meant for the i9305 and NOT the i9300?
I had originally flashed to I9305XXBLL3_I9305DBTBLL3_I9305XXBLL3_HOME.tar.md5 from stock and used for a while and even flashed bak a few times before using this rom, however reflashing this or using kies recover firmware after install process the green andriod man loads some stuff then goes to loop on samsung logo, i have tried many flashed, i dont understand y i wud get a loop on any flashes now it didnt before. surely there must b a way to stop the loop, I used kies 4 times to ugrade firmware recove using my s/n etc but it always seem to complete but loop, any suggestions, am tempted to bring to phone shop for warrenty and if they ask about the 14 installs i will have to say i used kies 14 times. thanks

Every time I flash stock rom with Odin the phone gets stuck at boot

So I've got this issue I never had before.
It started happening after I screwed something up with the EFS I think.
I was flashing some custom roms after the 4.3 official update and then tried to go back to 4.1 official.
Had the no network problem, but fixed it flashing the vodafone stock 4.3 official again.
Reading all the stuff about EFS confused me, and I deleted the EFS folder and copied an old backup (or so I think, because I'm not sure. I had a EFS backup on my sdcard and extsd I think).
I no longer have the no network issue, but everytime I flash a stock rom through Odin the phone gets stuck at the samsung logo, so I have to root the phone and install TWRP using Odin and then wipe. I know this way fixes this, but what I'm looking for is to fixed the problem completely so I don't have to install a custom recovery or root after using Odin to go back to official samsung rom.
Any ideas?
What should I do?
Maybe the phone gets stuck at the samsung logo because all of this EFS thing, but, like I said, I no longer have the no network issue.
All I want is for the phone to boot normally into the setup after flashing a samsung rom using Odin.
It just gets stuck every single time since I had this problem with the EFS, when before this never happened.
try to install the rom in recovery mode

I had this problem before (flash 4.1.2 in current 4.2.2 by odin), here's my solution.
Maybe you can install your ROM in recovery mode. (CWM based)
Remember to wipe completely before installing

I can flash custom roms through TWRP, but what I'm looking for is to be able to do so again through Odin without ending up stuck at boot always and having to wipe through TWRP to be able to boot properly.
Any ideas?
I'm sure there must be a fix so I don't get stuck at the boot screen after flashing a samsung rom with Odin.
I know the trick wipe factory reset but what I really want is to simply avoid getting stuck at the boot screen after flashing a samsung rom with Odin.

Factory reset is also available in default recovery as well, then what is the issue? Flash then boot to recovery do factory reset.

Thanks.
I'm just trying to find out why my SGS3 now gets stuck at boot when before it never happened.
I'm hoping there's a way to fix it and go back to before, when it never got stuck at boot. There should be a way I guess.

GT-S5839I Stuck on 1st boot screen

So i flashed a GT-S5830i stock firmware on as it was branded to Vodafone and wanted an unbranded one but i came across some issues. So i decided to flash back to the original FW but had trouble flashing through odin. I was able to get into recovery until i stupidly decided to flash a CWM Odin flashable file that wasn't compatible for my device. Now i can't seem to get into recovery.
I am however, able to flash stock FW through Odin but that's about it.
I can't Offline charge, get into recovery or boot the phone up.
When i try offline charge, the battery shows for a split second then tries to boot up.
I need to get into recovery to try and factory wipe it to see if that will help. I doubt it though as it doesn't even get to the samsung logo.
I think something is really messed up
Any ideas?
Thanks
