MHL 3.0 to hdmi and microusb - still only on paper? - Xperia Z2 Accessories

Hi there,
according to different sources, the xperia z2 supports mhl3.0. which means hdmi up to 4k and additional 75 mbps data transfer. First prototypes where shown by Silicon Image on MWC2014. Now, over six months later the only real thing i can find is an active mhl to hdmi cable (sony DLCM30) that doesn't need a own power unit. Does anyone knows a announced/existing/working hml3.0 converter that offers HDMI and microUSB (for HID devices) at the same time? I already searched alibaba up and down but nothing
At least in theory, this should enables us to use the motorola lapdock series to work with z2 and z3 (....or I am totally wrong) ?

Thanks

To owners: do you have TV-Out via 3.5mm jack ? (not MHL)

The title says it all:
Does the new I9100 Galaxy S2 have analogic TV-Out, via 3.5 jack ? Apart from MHL.
My I9000 Galaxy S has, and it works well with a Nokia CA-75U cable.
On gsmarena they only mention TV-out (via MHL A/V link) (and i'm not even sure what that means - a HDMI-out ?). Anyway, all i want is to connect the phone to a TV that only has RCA or SCART inputs.
Thank you.
I have report from an owner who is reliable that his Nokia 3.5mm TV Out cable is not working with the SGSII. I can confirm this tomorrow when I get my phone also.
If I'm not mistaken TV out is only supported via the miniUSB plug to a HDMI socket, with a 1080p maximum resolution. The cable doesn't come supplied with the phone though.
not working with the cable from my old n95. SGS1 did support this. Might be due to the cable being half broken, but I think it just doesn't support it.
I was hoping both methods were simultaneously available, like with Nokia N8.
Just to confirm does not work for me either (on the plus side my cheap Ebay USB OTG cable does work).
Damn. So it's either HDMI out (when they get around to releasing the adapter...) or nothing?
For full mirroring, yes. There is the option to share media via DLNA of course, but I suspect that like me you really need mirroring...

Is mirroring via MHL confirmed?
I have not seen a single video or post confirming this.
You're quite right, mirroring isn't confirmed.
OMG!bad news,s2 cant tvout via 3.5 jack to my old tv!
This way, they sort of make us buy a new HD tv with digital inputs...

I think that it is also representative of the new technology. Honestly, I think RCA connectors are outdated and doesn't really make sense.
RCA uses analog, and most TVs now-a-days are digital. Almost no technology runs on analog anymore, so for phones like Nokia to output RCA, it has to have a chip inside to convert from Digital to an Analog output... Then when it reaches your TV, if it is a digital tv, then it has to convert the analog back to digital. At this point - not only is the resolution decreased, but the signal starts to artifact from converting from digital -> analog -> digital again.
I guess this means that people have to upgrade from their CRT/legacy LCD tvs that only accept RCA/AV inputs.
And for the even older CRT TVs, too bad for them because there's no support for coaxial out.
Now that would be cool -- a coaxial out cable for old TVs, in case we ever discover time travel, and want to show the future to people from the 80s on a nice big 19" color CRT TV.

Just some warning - I'm not sure if that will work since it's not an MHL USB-HDMI cable.
If it works at all, it won't be able to charge your phone and display HDMI at the same time because of the way it's designed.
If you don't want to buy the real cable, I saw a generic version here:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/expansys-mhl-to-hdmi-adapter-black-218572/
If you wait another month (I believe June is the month that the supply is supposedly being produced), I think China will have some copies made soon. For complete functionality and compatibility, make sure the cable meets and complies with MHL standards.

HML tv-out adapter for sgs2. $78 on ebay.
The official Samsung HDMI adapter doesn't look to be out for quite a while yet but there's one by BizLite over at Mobile Fun that should be in over the next fortnight (website says 9-14 days)
Cheaper than the official one too. Agreed that it's quite annoying having no TV-out on the 3.5mm jack!
There is maybe a hope.
Exynos 4210 supports composite output. If SGS2 has connected jack 3.5 to Exynos Composite Video Output soldered, there is a hope.
Hi all I need composite video out to connect phone to car video system - so it`s my only hope to get it from 3.5 jack somehow... or is it possible to convert hdmi to composite or component?

[Q] MHL Cable

Hi,
I understand that the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is one of the first to have MHL 3.0 (Along with the Z2 Phone) however is there any adapter out at the moment to put this onto to your TV yet?
Is this something that a universal adapter will sort? Is it something I need to wait for Sony to release?
Cheers.

For me, the Samsung MHL does Not Work physically. A third party Adapter From HAMA does Not Work on the Sony, but on the SGS4
I'm Waiting for the Sony MHL to become available now...
I bought this one and it works with my z2 tablet: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...o-mhl-adapter-rf-g1171-rf-g1171/10214468.aspx

So, seeing I get my Z2 tomorrow, also ask if anybody has tried the MHL to HDMI adapters. Seems a limited choice here where I live, so asking for some additional input.
Seems I can get the official Sony IM750 MHL Adapter, however it doesn't mention the Tablet compatibility, only phones.
I bought a cheap mhl v1 cable that works fine. It just crops the bottom of the screen off on the TV http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281294982152
It has to have a micro usb to power it, but most tvs or dvd players have a spare usb port to power the adapter.

Thanks for the link. I suppose it would come down to whether the TV USB would transmit power via USB, but in the worst case, one could carry a USB charger (seeings I have several of those laying around )
All usb ports supply 5v at 0.3amps min as long as the TV etc is on. Even if it's a diagnostic only usb port it's still enough current.

MHL Cable/Adaptor Recomendation

Hi,
Does anyone on this forum use their Z2 over MHL?
I was wondering what MHL Cable / Adaptor you would recomend.
I have seen a Sony one, but is is very expensive (£30).
I was wondering what the thoughts on the cheaper ones were.
Thanks
in Advance.
Anyone got any recommendations for this? I too am interested.
Bought this from Maplin today ( for us with my HTC one. Tablet Z and Z2 ) so will report back when I've had time to test

Bought MHL 2.0 11 pin adapter today-didn't work. I'll try 5 pin tomorrow.

Sorry forgot to post back ( on holiday ). The maplin cable works like a dream but requires power if your tv isn't mhl compliant

I bought two adapters now and will test, but how new does a television have to be to be mhl compatible? Leaving on holiday tomorrow and would like to use my Xperia2 on the TV in the room, any good guesses on if that's a longshot?

I bought this:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CI42C4S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which works perfectly but on my TV requires a separate power source for the MHL.
I've been using a Rocketfish MHL adapter for the appradio in the wifey's car until I can get an adequate mirrorcast dongle.
I haven't had any issues with it. It also comes with a 11 pin adapter for newer Samsung devices.
The Samsung branded 5 pin MHL adapters should also work and be found in stores(they had them at my local Bestbuy along with the Rocketfish I bought).
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking to do, but maybe some sort of cast dongle might be a better option.
For streaming I like using chromecast best(there's 3rd party ones that support chromecast/mirrorcast/DLNA/airplay in one unit). The user experience is much nicer with chromecast but you're limited to using apps with cast icons and a wireless network(mirrorcast/dnla don't require this).
For screen mirroring a straight HDMI cable works best but not even Motorola puts HDMI ports on their devices anymore. MHL adapters work for the most part just as well but can have more failure points and compatibility issues. I haven't tried mirrorlink yet(I do have a new appradio that supports mirrorlink as well as HDMI but it's still in the box) but from what I under stand it's not as fast as HDMI and may give noticeable lag.

got one from amazon (brand: Cable Matters),.... ordered a 11-pin by accident,... and obviously that didn't work,..
so i ordered the 5-pin version and it worked just find,.... but it does need to be powered with the micro USB for it to work
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006V6N9NM/ref=twister_B00JXUCVXC
does anyone know if there's an MHL adapter that doesn't require to be plugged in the wall outlet????

Can a Samsung mhl 3 adapter work on my z2?

Just what the title says.
Since mhl 3 is connector agnostic, it should theoretically work right?
i am using a samsung mhl adaptor like this one on my z2 with no problems:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MHL-HDMI-Adapter-Packaging/dp/B005LGUDKK
it's an older version mhl but i guess the new one should work fine too.
If it's micro USB then it should do. The z2 supports mhl 3.0 so if the cable is correct it should work, beware of fakes which only support 2.0, found out the I hard way!
I believe 3.0 supports 4k but I may be wrong. On a side note my Z2 didn't come with the nice headphones or the cheap ones but some decent in ear sony ones (not DNC).

Pixel usc C to hdmi adapter

Has anyone used an hdmi adapter yet? I was wondering if I should purchase the usb c to hdmi adapter from Google or if it's okay to purchase a cheaper adapter on Amazon. Also, what type of adapter is the pixel compatible with? Slimport, mhl, or DP alt mode? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (Amazon.com or newegg preferred)

I believe there was an article about how the Pixels don't have a specific USB C capability needed to output video, so there's no point in getting the C->HDMI adapter cause it won't work.
EDIT: Found it.

Someone in the comments said to have used a slimport hdmi adapter. I am not sure if he meant the Pixel phone. I can't use my chromecast at my work since they use enterprise encryption.

It might not be much of a consolation, but if you get the new CC (gen3) at least it will have an ethernet port. Assuming your enterprise wifi and corporate wired networks can talk, that might be a solution.
Display link adapters work as well.

Someone mentioned a compatible dock with hdmi on Amazon
For the HP Elite USB C Docking Station someone wrote in the Review section on Amazon: "The only docking station I found, that can charge the new Google Pixel while connecting usb devices (like hdds, keyboard) and an external montitor. " So I guess this dock supports hdmi for the Pixel.
I just got my Pixel yesterday and haven't tried anything but I have several USB C accessories for my Desk XPS 13. I'll try them out tomorrow to see what happens - can't get to it today, sorry.
