[Q] Confusion when trying to install Cyanogen7

When I try to download the ROM from ROM manager, it tells me that I need install Clockworkmod Recovery, but when I pressed install, it came up with a Confirm Phone Model page which does not have Galaxy 5 as a option. So I am now just stuck here, what should I do, or is the free version of ROM manager pure not very useful?

did you root your phone?
what rom are you actually using?
did you try to update Rom Manager to an earlier version?
I assume your phone is rooted already. Don't continue if it's not.
I thought there was an official one released for the phone. Are you using the newest version of ROM Manager?
If yes, and our phone model is still not listed, then you'll need to install Clockworkmod Recovery by following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151396
It involves downloading a program called ODIN. You need to flash (transfer) the Clockworkmod file to your phone through USB. It's all in the thread above.
I had the same problem - installing the latest Rom Manager (free version) from the store didn't have Galaxy5 listed as a ClockworkMod possibility.
I flashed the whole thing by hand with ODIN and installed CyanogenMod - and presto; the version supplied with it had Galaxy5 support and I had no problem doing the "read only partition" installation.
Rom Manager is pretty crappy anyway - I prefer manual installation over it...
DO NOT - i repeat - DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER.
Theres no compatible version of CWMR it does offer. Flashing any of the other versions, which are made for other phones, might brick your device to the state that Im currently trying to revert (d/l mode only, but seemingly unflashable).

Why did you say that??? If the phone is rooted you can download CWM by RomManager without fear.. the important is that when the popup with phones versions come up, you choose only - ONLY! - Galaxy 5 voice! If this voice is not present into the popup, don't choose nothing at all! Choosing another phone might brick yours!
I downloaded and installed and even only update CWM by RomManager a lot of times and everything was always fine! No problem at all!!
You cannot scare people for nothing: your problems are not bug or issues, but only YOUR problems! and YOUR errors!!!
So, boyz, don't worry installing CWM by RomManager.. but remember to choose only Galaxy 5 voice, no other phone, 'cause you could brick your phone selecting a CWM that is not compatible with our GT-I5500..

[Q] CM 11 EXPERIMENTAL NiGHTLY - Error status 7

------------- SOLVED! --------------
Hello all,
First of all I want to say I'm pretty new to flashing ROMs etc.
Currently I'm at stock 4.3 Jellybean and I want to flash my SGS3 to the new CM 11 ROM.
I rooted my phone following this tutorial: vvvvvv.telefoonrooten.nl/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s3-root/ (sorry if its in Dutch, but it uses the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3 and Odin).
After I rooted I copied both the CM11 ROM and GAPPS to my external SD, I went to recovery and tried to install the new custom ROM but I got an error (status 7) and it was aborted.
Also if I try to reboot it won't boot normally as it should be but it goes back to recovery mode automatically...
I fixed to get back to Jellybean by flashing the stock rom (unrooting?) it via Odin.
Anyone else got the exact same problem as I do and knows a solution to be able to flash CM 11?
Thanks in advance,
Steelbear

- If you obtain Error 7 when you tried to install ROM in CWM or TWRP
Install the latest version of CMW or TWRP

BTW latest philz touch recovery works too
Since you went back to stock and you already know how to root, I suggest you go to Play Store and download ROM Manager to help you install latest CWM recovery on your device.
Or you can simply go to CWM website, pick the version of the recovery for your phone and flash it via Odin.
Hope it helps.

Indeed it worked! I found it out myself yesterday. Went to the CWM site and downloaded the latest version (6.0.4.4.) and flashed it through Odin. But thanks for your input anyways (to all who replied) !
An alternative solution that I often use is to open the Updater Script in META-INF folder in the ROM's zip and delete first lines, where it gets device model as property.
Obviously it's an UNSAFE operation (because that lines avoid to install ROMs of other phone on mine) but when I'm sure that ROM I've downloaded is for my phone I do it and it works

[Q] i9300 Intl problems with TWRP and flashing Kitkat

Hi all, I'm looking forward to your help. Current state of my phone is a bootloop straight into TWRP with failed installs of Kitkat/gapps and failed restore of my backup. Here's a step by step of what I've done.
1. Opened Goomanager, updated TWRP using the button (current version 2.6.3.0)
2. Downloaded AOKP kitkat nightly and pa gapps - download completes and MD5 hashes check out
3. Used goomanager "flash zips" interface to attempt flash, with factory reset option and backup option selected
4. Came back to find my phone stuck at TWRP with failed flash
5. Tried to flash again manually, using the standard TWRP flashing page
6. Failed again.
7. Decided to cut my losses and restore the backup created when I first attempted to flash via Goomanager
8. Restore fails.
9. Phone fails to load system, reverts into TWRP when it fails.
10. So now I can't restore my old android system and I can't flash a fresh one.
Where do I go from here? Is my version of TWRP dodgy and giving bad flashes? Should I downgrade it via adb? My phone was fine until an hour ago, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Many thanks for your help. Tom
Did you try to flash a stock rom via Odin (in case you can get to dl mode) or via recovery (you need to get a flashable stock rom for that). I have not experience with twrp though, maybe you could also try philz recovery (I think I read somewhere that kitkat had problems with twrp).
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Twrp let me recover my backup after I pulled the battery rather than just use twrps reboot option. So at least I have a functioning phone now. Odin was always my last resort, but I have a mac so finding someone's pc to use is a bit annoying/embarrassing. I'm going to try re-downloading the kitkat rom and see if that fixes it, but it seems unlikely considering it passed an MD5 check after download. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
reading through other KitKat threads, people had reported all kind of strange behavior with TWRP.
Philz recovery (last version, or 6.00.8) didn't have any issues with KitKat (using it atm.)

[Q] Issue with installing custom Rom on GT-P7510

I have read all the instruction i can find on installing a custom ROM on Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi, and once i get to the point of installing zip with ROM it fails. I dont know why its failing, and i think i am missing something. I have TWRP recovery installed and was trying to update with CM 10.1 or 11 but neither would work.
If someone could eith provide a detailed list of steps, i can see if i missed something or maybe someone else has encountered this problem and can advise. When i install from zip it tried so install and then an few seconds later is says failed and then i have to restore using NANDROID backup to have atleast a working tablet
Thanks for the help
Maybe you have an old version of TWRP. For cm11 you need version 2.6.3 or later.

Try updating your twrp to a newer version for your tab. If that falis you could try using cwm. I've used it to install my roms including cm11 and other kitkat roms that supposedly require twrp without any errors.

Cyanogenmod Error 7

Hi,
i finally rooted my i9100.
SU is also installed.
CWM Revovery 5.8.1.8 is installed.
Everytime i will install CM 12.1 i get the Error 7.
I read that TWRP will fix it.
How can i switch from CWM to TWRP?
There are two ways to get another recovery in general:
- flashing a recovery.zip from current recovery
- flashing a recovery.tar via Odin
As far as I know, Status 7 means incompatible ROM or recovery. Make sure you're flashing a Kitkat-compatible recovery. You can also check out the IsoRec solution by @Lanchon.
