So i looked through a bunch of the threads to see if i could find my problem or a related problem, im sure its out there so please lead me in the right direction rather then being a ****.
My phone is rooted and i am running viper rom. when i plug the phone in it will discharge about 20% of the batt. before it takes a charge, I.E. if the phone is at 60% it will drop to 40% before starting to charge. i do not think it is the rom or the kernel, iv flashed a few different roms and kernels so im sure its not that. any info would be greatly appreciated.

i know you're on custom software and that *could* be the issue but since you've switched to a few different versions, it definitely lowers the likelihood its the custom software.
the phone is still new and so are people's experiences, but i haven't seen any posts on this yet (doesn't mean there arent any). if this is a big issue, it should start popping up so keep reading/researching as i will do the same.
the easy solution, would be to swap batteries with a known good battery. either buy a new one or swap with a friend who has an EVO 3D w/o the same issue.
the more complex solution: as with all issues which could be hardware related, the best test environment is going to be on a completely stock ROM and kernel. if you still experience this significant battery discharge before recharge issue and you're on completely stock software, you are able to take it back to the original dealer/sprint and have them troubleshoot/replace. faulty hardware does happen, unfortunately.
i know its not the best news, but hope it helps!

it did it a few times before i was rooted and on a custom rom but it was only when i plugged it into the wall charger. i thought it was the battery at first but i swapped the batt. with my sisters evo 3d and it still continued to discharge the battery. i guess my best bet is to take it in and see if sprint can help me
thanks for the help, i hit the thank you button

Id take it in and swap for a new battery. A repair store is likely to give you one on spot dude! My repair store is really friendly and they swap batteries for free. Does your 3D have the hot battery issues when charging? After going through 4 3D's only 1 of them had the issue where charging would heat up the battery (really hot) and it took long as **** to charge; repair person said it was a hardware issue and they gave me another phone after testing. Others had no issues.
Not sure if anyone else has used this, but i have found that with gtabcomb 3.3 i dont have the SoD issue when unplugging and pluggin in my charger. meaning that i can wake my gtab by plugging in the charger and then unplugging it. I leave my charger plugged in at my desk so im not sure how convenient this would be for someone else.
So far I have been able to completely circumvent SoD with this, so i was just wondering what other people think, and if this works for them. Like i said im using gtabcomb 3.3(not the refresh)so if anyone would like to try this with any other roms that would be cool too. thanks.

This is not a reliable solution--in fact, waking up when the charger is plugged could be considered a bug. A better solution would be to have HC ROMs wake up using the volume keys like it is possible with GB ROMs.
wouldnt call it a bug
i wouldnt call it a bug. all of my android phones do it, stock or not. my current mytouch 4g does it, completely stock. also samsung admire, lg optimus m stock or rooted/rommed. so it seems more like its meant to do it than a bug. what I am noting is that i dont have the sleep of death anymore because i do this.

Don't know about phones--they may behave differently, but, tablets shouldn't wake up when the charger is plugged in--why should they, right?
What I've noticed is that other custom ROMs don't usually do this and GtabComb 3.3bl1.1 does this only on occasion. There is no setting on any of the custom ROMs which says: wake up when charger is plugged in. I'm pretty sure that your tablet's behaviour is an unintented side-effect of some setting or the other, and so you really shouldn't rely on it.
what I am noting is that i dont have the sleep of death anymore because i do this.

Sure, use it if it fixes your SOD issues, but, this is not a standard solution.
My HTC Amaze will not hold a charge. I am using the stock included USB Wall plug and the Micro EXT 12 Pin Cable which only comes with the AMaze (it is also included with the Flyer Tablet). When I first plug in the phone to charge the charge light blinks orange for five minutes and then remains solid. When I return hours later the light is totally out (no green indicator light showing a full charge which I used to get). When I try to turn on the phone the Screen flashes for a split second but nothing happens.
I tried to troubleshoot by swapping in my HTC Sensation battery and that does power up the AMAZE. I have now switched the included Amaze charger with the one that came with the HTC Sensation. The orange power light comes on immediately although it only blinked with the other charger. I am worried that maybe the Power adapter is frying my batteries.
Does anyone know if these included chargers share the same specifications for the Sensation, Amaze etc??? Anyone else experience this problem??
The only thing I can think of is your version of Recovery. I know that the phone will not charge while it is turned off if you have not flashed the most recent version that includes the fix for this problem. Try turning the phone on and then plugging it in to the charger.

Is there a fix for this problem? Does the version of recovery affect the phones ability to charge when its turned off?
either recovery or faulty battery! what happens when you put amaze battery in to sensation?
HTC Amaze Battery
When I put the HTC amaze battery into the Sensation and try to charge it the light blinks. Then after 5 minutes goes solid orange. After hours the light shuts off and I unplug it and try to power up but NOTHING. Dead. I purchased two Anker batteries, tried to charge them in Sensation. One works fine but cannot be charged in the HTC Amaze. I have even tried it with both the White Amaze USB cable and both the HTC Amaze included charger and the Sensation included charger. ( I believe they are the same model). Could it be the USB connection is somehow not allowing the phone to charge?
Doesnt HTC warranty the battery for any period of time???

Yes, there is a fix if that is indeed the issue. Are you able to determine what version of recovery you are using? It could still be a faulty battery though.
Upgrading my phone from a SGS 4g
I heard that the Battery is a big issue on this phone.... can someone tell me if they fixed it with updates or is it still a problem because i really love the camera on this one and im really loving the design but there were other statements abt poor reception in some areas which leaves me in doubt.... Bottom line should i go for Galaxy s 2 over this???

After rooting and using custom roms I don't think there is any battery issues. IMO Battery life is great. Phone is still one if not the best and can be in the top best phones for a while, only thing right now is development. If your all about development then go with s2 if not then amaze. I'm happy with what I have

Tell me something, what is it that really drains the battery on the Amaze? Is it the 4G? Thing is, my device would be on WiFi for the majority of the day. I've seen some apps where you can auto switch network based on proximity. So I'd only be using 3G/4G while I'm in transit.
Also, is there a way to disable 3G/4G so as to only get EDGE?

When I walk in my house, my WiFi comes on and 4g turns off... No special app... I think its a feature of the ROM I use. Sometimes it doesn't kick in until I open my WiFi networks though. If you have WiFi on though when you aren't connected to a network, the constant scanning will drain your battery.
Also, other things that drain the battery:
Sense Widgets... Although attractive, huge battery Hog
Live Wallpapers - Duh
Overclocked Kernels... Faster performance = Faster drain
Heavy usage... When the screen is always on and the data network is constantly being used, it also drops.
On the new Energy ROM, its nice because when your phone is not being used, neither is your battery. My phone went 3 hours with only changing 1%.

Did somebody make a statistic - which SOFTWARE drain battery more quick on Amaze?
Are there any apps that select Wifi based on your GPS location? I'm just trying to figure out how I can get this phone and actually be able to use it without having to pull an arm and a leg.
Battery issues
hey guys, i've had an amaze for about a month now, and these last 2 weeks that i've had it, the phone will randomly shut off once a day when im at or around 50%. I'm not sure if this is a battery or a hardware issue. I have used a non-stock charger and cord to charge it 2 times a week so i'm not sure if this might have anything to do with it. I have the official unofficial ICS update, did a full wipe, relocked the bootloader and unlocked it again and basically put a clean ICS on it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Llama. It doesn't even use GPS, it uses cell towers to determine location, which your phone's doing already.

I've seen reports like this that were resolved by a new battery. Could be the handset, though.

This link shows the new 12 pin technology that MUST be used with the Amaze. This is a real pain, just purchased two HTC-Amaze phones and taking them back for the Galaxy.
I hate it when they change technology and make all your charging cords in your phones and your computers obsolete and don't tell you. Also, the Amaze is designed for European drivers. The charging cord plugs into the left-upper middle of the phone and it is dangerous to pick up to unplug wile driving because the cord hits the steering wheel. How do you spell DANGER? Really heavy and clunky phone too. Galaxy has bigger screen and is lighter - another reason to pass on the Amaze. Be careful with this phone if you aren't aware it is in a tech world of it's own. Just replacing the charging cords in our autos and computers cost more than the phone. Sheesh!

I use a standard micro USB to charge my Amaze. Works fine.
I think you may mean "designed for English drivers", since they are the only European country that drives on the left side of the street and thus have the driver on the right side. But in any case one is not supposed to be messing around with the power while driving anyway.

As mentioned, conventional microUSB cords work fine, and some of HTC's own documentation says so, some even recommend it. I do find I get a better/faster charge using HTC's cables, but they are functionally the same as microUSB. The odd connector is more secure, though -- it's longer and inserts further in the socket.
You should not be picking up or juggling your phone while driving. Period. End quote. Just don't.
I am also disappointed to the Nth degree with the Amaze, actually not so much the phone which is lovely and solid and attractive and loaded with hardware features, I'm furious with HTC's absolutely stupid mess with drivers, and refusal to quickly resolve issues with the software. It's October, 10 months after purchase, and I have problems with WiFi, Android Beam, Bluetooth, surprise shutdowns (just finding the phone has turned off by itself). In short, it's failed to function as a reliable phone.
I'll never buy from them again. Never. Ever. Google Nexus phones for me from now on, and not on a carrier contract either. I've been burned for the last time.

From what I've read, the shutdowns may be caused by the battery. You might want to try replacing the battery you are using. So far I have not found one better than the OEM.
Hi guys, I have a very big problem regarding to the battery. Sometimes it doesn't charge or maybe it's full charged but It drops from 100%, 50%, 20%, 5% and then die (in a few minutes). Somedays it works well but the average is not good. I tried several roms , full wipes and I changed the battery. I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
what firmware? that did before the problems started?
I believe your battery is damaged. Possibly from high temperatures. I recommend getting a replacement phone if you still qualify for the manufacturer's one year warranty.
thanks

I already changed it so I think is not a battery issue. I'm trying to avoid send it back because I'm from Argentina and I bought it in China.
Another issue is when you connect it all the night but it doesnt charge. At the first I thought it was a software issue but right now I don't know what to test. I think the most weird is when sometimes works just fine. It's making me crazy...I dont know if send it back or set it on fire lol.
Thanks guys.

Hmm maybe there is something wrong with your actual charging port. Have you tried resetting your phone's software?
I think you should flash the stock. before flashing do wipe. in order to avoid the problem of software.

I did it several times. I don't know what is happening but since two days is working "fine". The last thing I tried It was die-hard battery script. A guy in another forum recommended me to use compressed air to clean out the ports because it may have a piece of debris that is causing a direct short therefore killing your battery.
Thanks guys.
Since installing the GDR3 preview my phone does some really strange things when sitting on the wireless charger. It's gotten so bad lately that I have to put it in vibrate mode at night to keep from waking me.
When I first set it on the charging plate, it wakes up and dings just like it always has. However, a short time after, it will start doing that same thing over and over again. The last few days I'll take a look at it when I get up in the morning and it's got multiple apps running. This morning it was the Pro camera and picture apps. Yesterday it was Facebook and email. The day before that it was multiple settings pages...
Weirdness abounds!
Anyone else experiencing this?

When you put it on the charger place it so that the bottom end where the speakers are line up with the edge of the charger where the LED is. Also make sure it is centered from side to side. The last update turned down the sensitivity of the NFC system which is what the charger and phone use to talk with each other. If it is not lined up just right the phone does not think it is on the charger correctly and is warning you. It also apparently will chime now when it reaches full charge. I have not found out how to turn that feature off. I assume you can't. I think this is limited to the AT&T release of Amber only.

Interesting...I have noticed that it doesn't do it on the charging plate I have in my office, only at home. Of course, I have a Fatboy charging pillow and if MS did make the signal weaker, then that may explain it. I'm going to pull the charging plate (standard Nokia) out of the Fatboy and try it tonight.
I'll report back, thanks.

But you are not running the official AT&T Amber update that was sent to our phones OTA. As I said I think this is just AT&T adding their usual BS to a ROM to make it theirs.
i'm also running GDR3 on my 920, but i've got this "problem" from the beginning with one of my chargers...
interesting, where did you get that information about the weaker NFC singal? And are you shure, it does'nt work the other way around? (that the charger sends the signal/power to activate the NFC chip/tag on the phone?! seems to make much more sense to me)
What wireless charger model? Some of wireless charger has NFC inside and can use it to launch the app.
