Is there a specific process/service that could be blocked/delted/frozen to stop the OTA from constantly happening? Or is it quite deep system within the Android OS?
I'm currently running the first release of GB OTA, then went ahead did Revolutionary and then flashed SU to get root.
Now its not a big deal when the phone does try to update, it just fails(not sure why it fails, but I just get the "!" and blue android icon). I just normally go in hboot and wipe the cache and good for a few days.
Well now its been really like trying to get the OTA going. Every hour or so it re-downloads it and try to install it. Only 8am, and its tried 3 times since 6am. :/
I really don't feel like loading a custom rom(kinda afraid I might brick it), i'm quite happy on how my phone is setup now. Other then this minor annoyance it never crashes or locks up.
Have you tried freezing
com.smithmicro.dm or HTC DM?
I have so many apps frozen that i can't remember which it was. I also don't use stock home, which freezing some services causes issues with.

Hi everyone I posted this on my roms page but I thought I would branch out and ask others if they have seen anything like my problem. It seems my phone hates my brother or at least his phone number. Every time he calls me or I call him I get the error process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem, force close. I tried to clear the phone app but no go. The problem has occurred on two separate roms, fresh installs over a two week period? Of course the phone stops working and I get frustrated. Thought it was a dirty download so I tried Flips newest creation and sure enough after I have it set up enough to do a nandroid make the back up then about the time I make a few phone calls it starts kicking our the error android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem, force close.(just found it was only my brothers phone number) I am on TWRP 2.0 for my current recovery.
Oh thanks everyone for any ideas,
I'm on 1.4 hboot, baseband 0.97.10.0808, PRI 1.24.003, PRL 21083, Android version 2.3.4 & Sense 3.0 currently....boot ready to SVN back to most recent Warm nightly.
Ok now it gets really weird, I just realized it's my brothers phone that causes the issue? What the f?I called many different phone numbers even a Miami area code like his....it has happened on two different fresh installs of two different Roms. I did clear the data on the phone app but should I completely delete his contact and then allow google to sync? It seems I basically already did that with the installs of the different roms? Any ideas WHAT COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE THIS? Very weird.
Thanks again because I have no clue
Charles
Ok so I reprovisioned the phone and still the same problem. It varies as to which phone contact causes the force close issue. Going to try and delete contacts although I doubt it does any good.
Anyone, Buehler, Anyone?
The same thing is happening to me on my 3d and i haven't rooted it yet. I will turn on the phone and everything will crash. I don't think it has to do with the rom but maybe a phone defect. I would say unroot and see if the problem still occurs if it does bring it back to sprint. They have a warranty for stuff like this.
TWRP 2 is really buggy, try flashing through cwm or twrp 1.1.1

I've been running twrp2.0 since release and I've restored nands, did wipes, etc all has worked fine.

I got this out my phone a few weeks ago when I checked to see if I had an ICS update
Of course I didn't.
Well now this message "connecting to DM server" stays in my notification bar. It also stays running. I did a check to see how much they battery life it was eating and it was well over 60%.
I tried the settings, manage apps, att update, clear cache but it still ran.
I finally used app quarantine to stop it.
Well now that we may get ICS soon I want the update option to run with out it running at all times.
Anyone else having this issue?

Connecting to DM Server
I had the problem today. Went to manage Running Apps and was able to stop.
If this does not work, did you try rebooting the phone?
I have tried resting the phone.
I even shut the phone off and took the battery out for 5 min.
It won't go away unless I put it in app quarantine.

I'm also having this same problem and have done everything that you've done to try and fix the problem, but it's still happening. Have found a fix by chance? This has been going on for about a week or two.

Sorry no fix.
I just flashed CM9

Load titanium backup and freeze it, or you could delete it too.
I just deleted it.....g
Mine just started showing this in the notification tray yesterday. I can freeze it and the notification goes away, but I don't think we want to delete it though, right? Isn't this how the phone connects to the AT&T server to get software updates? I figure I'll freeze it for a few days then defrost it and see if it fixes itself or connects to the server.
So a few days ago my friend gave me his old phone -- a Motorola Devour. I was pretty happy about it, until i found out about Motoblur, and how until i fully disabled it it would just factory restore the phone every time I turned it off and back on. So then I went through a huge process trying to disable that and keep everything on restart, which I did. My question here, as you may have gathered from the title, is this: Is there a way to update the phone without having a service provider? The main reason I did all of this was to try and get some free wifi texting apps because I haven't had a way of communicating with some of my friends in a while, none of which I can find in the store, I'm assuming because the phone is out of date. Thanks in advance

I had to install a root, then go into the files and delete the thing that makes blur required to run the phone without factory resets every time it restarts.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it sooooo much. Ever since I went to 4.2.2 my mobile data speeds have gone to **** when I'm using the browser. I get a 10-15 second delay in loading a web page. When I use my WiFi it seems to be fine. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. It's not Rom specific. I've attached screen shots of a speed test which is perfect and a shot of the browser trying to load a page.
This makes no sense to me someone please help

NFigured it out, I restored flash player with titanium backup and that was the issue. I uninstalled and re installed and I'm good now hope this helps someone.
Edit...this seemed to help for a bit then went back to being slow.

I have this exact problem. I am on 4.3.1 and everything works fine on wifi, but browsing via stock and chrome browsers always stalls. Installing flash player from TB didn't fix it. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I've had this issue for about two months. ROM doesn't seem to matter as I've tried stock, super stock, the old Viper, NOS GPE, and Viper Sense 5 along with most of the kernels out there. I've RUU-ed probably 8 times with no luck.
The "Adobe Flash" fix didn't work for me, but I do use Titanium Backup. Maybe the problem is there somewhere?

The adobe flash fix didn't work for me, either. I found a fix in another sub-forum for a different phone. It recommended installing adfree and then selecting the "revert" option in the app. That fixed the problem for me completely. Hope that helps anyone else with this problem.
You can get the app to sideload it here: http://adfree.bigtincan.com/

Welp, I downloaded it, but the app seems stuck. After running it, I get the boot normally / TCP dialogue, but nothing happens after that. Just stuck on the loading screen with the spinning circle.
I just reinstalled it and tried it again. I am now getting the same error as you. Might be a server-side problem. Might want to try again tomorrow?

Could you post a link to the thread you were talking about where this solution came up? I'd like to read through it. Thanks!
I am also having this problem, ViperDNA, 4.1.1. WiFi is fine, but mobile data is unusable. If I toggle mobile data off then back on, it works ok for a bit, then goes back to ****. Just recently started happening. I also have a similar issue with my G2.
I couldn't find it again, it was really hard to find the first time. But I just tried it again and the app is working. Just install it, tell it to boot normally, give it root permission, tell it to skip after it does its host file check, then press the revert button. When that is done, uninstall adfree and reboot.
That should do it.

Got it working, but it didn't seem to fix the problem. I'm still having the exact same issue. Getting frustrated with this since RUU is supposed to be the miracle fixer, yet that and a bunch of other attempts with solutions like the ones in this thread have done nothing. Outside of this thread, I can't find anyone else talking about this problem.

With what browsers are you experiencing this problem? Are you on Verizon and using the latest radios?

I'm on the most current Verizon radio with Verizon service. Most current OTA hboot. Moonshine s-off. Recently RUU-ed.
I use Dolphin and Opera Mini. Strangely, Opera Mini doesn't have this issue, but Dolphin does. However, browsers aren't the only problem. I have the same thing happen with nearly every data-using app. Twitter, Instagram, A Online Radio, TuneIn Radio, as well as Dolphin for sure seem to have this issue. Opera is okay, and Google Play Store and Facebook seem to be mostly unaffected.
It's unexplainable. Everything works instantly and fine on WiFi, but 4G, 3G, and 1X all have this 10-20 second delay before they start actually connecting. After this lag, they all download quite well. It's just the initial connection that has a problem. And again, I've searched everywhere and haven't read anyone experiencing this.

Hmmm, not sure what's going on. Maybe you need a new SIM card? Maybe try re seating the SIM? You can also turn off the radio in the hidden phone settings menu and then turn it back on. From the dialer type: *#*#4636#*#*

I've tried removing and reinserting SIM card before, and I've reset the radio and tried airplane mode probably a hundred times. Not sure what the dialer number is supposed to do, but it seems to do nothing.
Guys answer this what does flash player half to do with slow internet?
Also you internet speed looks fine.
I edited the op because I'm still having issues like the rest and it said solved but it's not. I just installed ad app I'll see if it helps.

You don't need to keep adfree installed, just use it to reset the host file or something. Maybe someone who knows the actual mechanism will chime in and explain why it helps.
