At first couple days I did not notice this issue, yesterday I found the the sound from the right speaker is louder than the left one. Anyone has the same feeling? I'm not sure if it is a problem with the hardware or the software.
I did notice something like that yesterday. Don't know if it was what I was watching, or if it was the Tablet, but it does warrant some more investigation.

I can say I don't have this issue. I had originally thought mine was the other way around but then realized it was my audio source, sounds balanced now.
Have you checked with earbuds to make sure that it's really a problem? I've found that not only where I hold the tablet in relation to the side speakers will effect the perceived balance, but also how I hold my hands which changes how sound reflects off them thus changing the perceived sound balance.
Earbuds worked with no problems. I'm thinking it should be the speakers' issue.

My sound is off, but that was after I opened up my device. The speaker wire is close to the edge and are a bit flimsy - just moving them slightly seems to affect the volume. Could be a hardware defect that affects some devices more than others, that's my guess.
At one point, I had actually put some electrical tape over one speaker as my "DIY" volume reduction fix.
I've had my gtablet for about five days. The left speaker would sometimes work, but mostly would not. I tried different ROMs, different media players. Earphones worked perfectly. Sending it back for a replacement... I'll just end up breaking something else if I open the thing up, lol.
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone else noticed their vibrator motor starting to feel "gritty"? I don't mean actual debris, but the vibration, particularly in short bursts, has a gravelly, gritty crackle to it. It's slightly audiable. Sustained vibration (with the app "Vibrate" set to full power) is perfectly fine, but haptic feedback is affected.
To test, press your menu button a few dozen times in rapid succession, or play a teeter style game where you frequently have short bursts of feedback. Mine sounds fine the first few times but quickly gets a nasal, gritty noise.
Just wondering if I've got a defective motor, as my OCD really picks up on this.
UPDATE: I made a recording from my laptop mic. Notice now the vibration starts normal, then after many small vibrations it gains an added crackle. It might seem unusual to hammer away at the softkeys this much, but this is just for demonstration.
Full duration: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21884233/linked/all.wav
Two normal vibrates, then two wonky ones: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21884233/linked/compare.wav
Thanks.
Maybe some chick took your phone when you weren't looking to get off, and took it too far.

I have the same issue, searched for others who might have experienced this, and ended up here. This thread is the only complaint I found about it when doing a quick Google search, so I guess it's pretty rare. I don't know if maybe some debris somehow made its way into the housing that holds the vibration weight, or what. Doesn't seem to be causing any other problems (other than the vibration feeling kind of funny).
Anyway, I'm not adding anything any more useful than the last two posters had to say, just wanted to let OP know that you're not the only one experiencing this.
Smoke could do this. 420 smoke sticks to everything real bad and it gets in everywhere, just like cigarette smoke.
the haptic motor is actually exposed in the back of the phone right above camera if u have case off. take a look at it while vibrating and see what u see.
Mine is same way which is why I turn off haptic feedback and keyboard vibration. Its just cause the 3d vibration is far too high. If you want download smart keyboard, you cab adjust vibrations

Not the best example but look, this is how the vibrator works (it's smaller in our phones, of course)
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question368.htm
It sounds like part of the gear might have chipped off and as the object spins it makes the sound. That or you actually have some grit inside the vibrator! lol.
Take this with a grain of salt, it's only my assumption.
Warrenty should cover this, but I see no reason for it to be such a bother (I don't use vibrating cap keys)
Yeah I have this problem also. It doesn't happen all the time I think it depends on the duration of the vibrate. I had this same problem on my OG Evo.
My OG EVO did that exactly after about 6 months, The vibration was loud enough to hear the haptic feedback and it was Super "gravely" when unlocking the screen... It never seemed to affect anything really, so i never thought much of it.
My new 3D is nice and smooth though, I noticed right away when using it, I even had to get used to it for a day or so, since i was used to the Rough, semi-inconstant audible rough-ness my haptic feedback provided in my OG EVO.
I'm in possession of a Champagne Gold Prime that is essentially perfect except for haptic feedback, which works only intermittently. Most of the time (perhaps if the duration of the effect is too short) it just makes a static-y noise (sounds a bit like a duck with a sore throat), and when it does vibrate (when starting up or shutting down, when selecting an image in the Gallery, etc.) it's quite loud.
I also have an Amethyst Gray unit that has some light bleed and a rattle near one of the dock connectors (and will be going back to Best Buy this week). The haptic feedback on this one works, but is so weak as to almost be useless. It's also a bit noisy as well.
My question is: does anyone have haptic feedback that is NOT noisy (and really it's pretty obvious what I'm talking about--not the normal vibration sound but a sort of static-y noise that sounds like something grinding in the mechanism) and yet is strong enough to actually be useful? That is, it consistently provides enough vibration that it enhances the experience?
My wife's Galaxy Tab 10.1 has such haptic feedback--it's quiet, and strong enough to help confirm that key presses have registered, etc. I'm not saying haptic feedback is all that important, it's just I don't know that I want to accept a clearly defective unit.
My thing is: if haptic feedback on the Prime is generally very weak, then I won't bother returning the Champagne unit. If it's possible to get a unit with working and useful haptic feedback, then I'll keep looking for the perfect Prime.
Everyone has poor haptic feedback on the prime. Some are content with it and dont notice, some could care less but on mine it sounds like a duck whenever I use the onscreen keyboard.
Im sure others will try to tell you otherwise but trust me, they are all the same. Loud and awkward sounding.

Okay, can someone OTHER than @jzen respond? This particular user seems hell-bent on commenting negatively in every new thread... And if your haptic feedback does work well, then please don't let @jzen's insistence that NOBODY has good haptic feedback stop you from posting your experience. I'm simply not convinced that @jzen has used every single Prime in existence and is therefore qualified to state that "they are all the same."
Thanks!
i i never even thought about haptic till i read this. Mines not bad, a gentle buzz on each press from the bottom left corner when in landscape. Not noisy at all.
my Champagne prime has the same problems as yours. everything else works great, so i wont bother returning it. it sucks that even though you turn it off, it still want to vibrate when you move apps/widgets around.....
yeah this was the first thing i noticed on mine, it really does sound like a duck. I wonder if it cause of the aluminum back is why its so loud, since plastic does deaden the sound a bit.
I remember someone posted before about their prime being unable to vibrate at all, and making a weird noise. he thought that the vibration motor must have come loose and was rattling around inside the case. seems like a possible explanation.
i have a gold 32 and my vibrator sounds normal LOL but seriously it seems to work fine, although not nearly as strong as my evo3d
Asus: Its uh.. a new extra feature to uh, compensate for the GPS. Quacktic feedback!
Using Swiftkey keyboard allows you to set haptic feedback intensity. With the stock KB,I barely felt it but was able to fine tune it using Swiftkey.
very quiet. not noticeable at all.
Thanks for the feedback. Seems like pretty much a mixed bag--some have the same problem as mine, some seem to have decent enough haptic feedback.
Still not sure if it's worth returning and taking a chance on a different (more important) problem...
Mine is bad as well. No funny sound but very week. The vibration does work fine though. I had to make sure that the mechanism making the vibration wasn't bad. Tested using one of the "vibrator" apps on the market. Had a good laugh but confirm that it works.
Mine is strong but also makes the annoying rattle noise. I don't think I will exchange it given the sparse availability.

The best way to test this is to set haptic feedback in the keyboard options. Then sit back type up something and enjoy your new built in duck.
Quack quack quack. I guess its more of a fart/quack sound every time i type.

He is dead on with this. Use Swiftkey. It doesn't really make it anymore intense it just lengthens the time the motor goes off. The reason why it feels so weak (or you can't feel it at all) is that ASUS setup the motor to not run long enough so the vibration is not having enough umph to travel to the screen. If you set your vibration to 65ms you will find it gives you a nice snap to your clicks at least on the keyboard that is. ASUS hopefully with ICS release will make sure the motor goes off longer so you can actually feel it.

Tried that. On mine it just makes the noise louder, mostly. There's a bit of vibration, but the noise makes it impractical. It's surprisingly annoying in a quiet room.

I owned the TF101 and was satisfied without experiencing haptic feedback.
So I turned it off on the prime. Settings->Sound->Feedback->Haptic Feedback.
Fixed.

First, sometimes one does just want things to work. Simply turning off broken components isn't really an acceptable solution.
Second, even when haptic feedback is turned off there are times when the system stills tries to vibrate. For example, when moving icons on a home page and when selecting images in the Gallery app. Try it.

There are definitely some build quality issues on these, perhaps because of the big rush to get enough units into the stores. Mine was also unnoticeable but when cranked up over 100 ms., it became noticeble. I could see how if it became detached or was touching metal or the casing it would be really annoying. Either shut it off or return it, its up to you.
So, what do you suppose is the best option as I bought it outright and ATT is not my carrier?
There is still a 14 day return policy regardless of whether you bought it on contract or not.
Right now it seems like all the 920s have the slightly rattle/humming noise. This is probably not a defect, but simply how the vibration motor was designed, and heck, it probably rattles a little extra because of the floating OIS sensor inside. I imagine the rumble makes that thing shake and causes the noise.
I noticed this also, beginning of vibration especially on a hard surface you can hear the tinny rattle.

I think they are all going to do it, I doubt swapping is going to help.

That's exactly what it is. OP, don't waste your time returning your phone for another. All 900's and 920's do this. I have turned my vibration off and am using sound only and I honestly don't miss any notifications.
I had a similar experience on my HD2. Read here.
That said, is the rattle on the 920 as loud as those on the 900? My friend's 900 has a fairly loud rattle. I'd be able to tolerate something less.
Theverge and engadget have said that noise is the floating (that is spring mounted) lense. Do not return it.

They could fix easily this by simply limiting the max vibration level. Even without the rattle it's far too strong. The haptic feedback vibrations are relatively soft and cause no rattle. Or they could put in a setting to let you choose your vibration level (maybe 1-5 levels). Samsung modifies the OS and puts in extra settings on the settings page so it's not out of the question. Just depends on if Nokia can be made aware and how motivated they are to sort it out.
same here. We got two (white and black). Both of the phones have the same problem with one being slightly louder in the rattle than the other, otherwise almost identical. The phones are otherwise in top shape. If it was just one of them I wouldn't have hesitated to return them. But both the same problem and then many more people with the same problem. I believe that the phones I would get will show the same problem.
It's not too bad, certainly not as bad as others have shown on youtube. Only the first half second of the vibration does it. I hope this can be fixed with a setting after an update.
cheers
Unfortunately, on mine, when I'm on the phone listening to someone, the vibration makes the call unbearable. I will likely have to return it since I have not been hearing others complain about it during calls. I could care less when it vibrates, but during calls is not cool. I'll be honest, I rarely use it for an actual phone anymore, but when I do, I need it to work.
Hey all, just wanted to ask if anyone else had a One X+ with an extremely loud vibration mechanism. My girlfriend just purchased a new HTC One X+ on AT&T, and while she's loving the phone so far, the vibration is shockingly loud on it. It's also more.. high pitched (for lack of a better way to describe it) than any other vibration I've experienced. My Droid DNA's vibration is virtually silent, and I had expected the One X+'s to be similar. Is anyone else experiencing this or is her unit defective?
tl;dr: When the phone vibrates, it buzzes really loudly. Is this a defective unit or are they all like this?
Thanks!

The vibration is pretty loud, although there is a bit of variation. I am on my second HOX+ and it is not as loud as the first. My first one had a strong rattling noise almost like something was lose in the phone as soon as it was vibrating.I think it is not a defect.

Yeah, it's not quite that bad where there's a rattling noise, but it's essentially as loud as the ringtone itself lol. I was just surprised at how loud it was, and I'm trying to determine if it's worth getting it exchanged.. most stores in the area are sold out of it so it would be pretty difficult.

It's not rattling for me, it's just making a loud buzzing noise. Granted, it's a solid-sounding buzz, but still..
