Combining the Android on Intel project with my manufacturer's source code - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 10". It comes in two variants, the Windows version with a 32gb disk, and an Android version with a 16gb disk. From everything I can find out, those is the only difference between the two.
Because of projects like Android on Intel and Console OS I decided to buy the windows version with an intent of developing a dual boot tablet.
So, so far I have started the build process of the Intel baytrail target, and it has been running for a couple hours. everything is looking good though.
Next I am trying to build lenovo's kernel sources Located here for my tablet but had problems as I did not have the NDK and when I tried to install it on my debian wheezy machine, it complained about glibc being the wrong version, so I have to upgrade to sid to get glibc 2.17.
Anyway, my real question is, I can figure out how to build the Intel android installer, and I can figure out how to build a kernel, but How do I combine them?
The Intel make command, seems to build the kernel into some kind of installer, that then installs a bootlader (droidboot) and the rom on the tablet.

android apps on linux?

as many of you know, android and Linux kernels started re-merging at version 3.3. People said that a short way down the road, android apps would be able to run natively in linux. the kernel is now version 3.6 and I've heard nothing more about running android apps in linux. people on these and other forums put a lot of great work into getting linux running on android devices. now with windows 8 coming out, the market will be full of both ARM and x86 based touch devices of all sizes and shapes. I for one would love to be able to boot up ubuntu on one of these devices, and use either traditional linux apps or android touch apps as my mood and situation dictate. so- any new word on when we will be able to run android apps in linux?
we are exploring this possibility, and did some work, but nothing to release yet.
I assume you already know that for now, you can run Android as a virtual machine on Linux host.

I heard about using a VM but was never able to find where to get it.
nothing substantial yet, we wanted to run android apps directly on desktops, Linux or Windows. Using a virtual machine is really an over kill.

I am also hoping to see a solution to this question also. I understand that Debian, fedora and Arch Linux all have different packaging systems i always thought is was a smiler difference with android with more Java worked into the core of things. So i would think that adding the proper Java support to any Linux distro to support the apk package it should work but i am not a programmer.

[Q] Help with updating 8192cu.ko Wireless Driver

I have a JXD S5110, the wireless card is a Realtek RTL8188CUS, running the 8192cu.ko driver.
At this point I also know several android devices ran this driver, not sure which ones other than the Raspberry Pi, and what version the driver was on them or on currently on mine, don't have all the cmds compiled and installed to check versions or modules
Currently running [ROM] JXD S5110 Rabid ROM v1.0 (ICS)
The last thing I do know is the driver is on realteks site, attached the source zip file from their site.
The main part I'm stuck on is this is a chinese tablet so I'm not sure if I can just compile the driver in a generic android environment or if it has to be specific to the device, if it has to be specific to the device then I need help finding a touchscreen driver to make this all work, since most of the other chipsets are standard (i.e. ARM, and a USB controller).
Or is there an easier way of just compiling it on the device itself?

Problems building Android X86 using Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9

I'm trying to build Android X86 from Intel (Android-IA) using Mac OS X 10.9. I've had a bunch of hurdles up to this point and managed to get past them, but I'm stuck here (make crashes):
prebuilts/gcc/darwin-x86/host/x86_64-linux-glibc2.7-4.6/bin/x86_64-linux-gcc: No such file or directory
I found x86_64-linux-glibc2.7-4.6 for linux-x86 here:

Doesn't work, because I need it for darwin-x86. I tried cloning that linux-x86 version anyway, but the binaries in it can't be executed (no surprise). I can't find it for darwin-x86 on googlesource.com or anywhere for that matter.
Does it even exist? Is it even possible to compile Android X86 on Mac OS X? I saw in the Google tutorials it's possible, but they're targeting ARM and using AOSP. I'm targeting X86 and using the Android-IA source.
I'm a complete n00b at this, so if possible, please explain things in a way even an 8yr old could understand.

[Q] Chroot question

This might be a weird one, but has anyone has come up with the notion of chrooting android x86 inside a pc linux distro. The reverse is quite common ( linux deploy, lil debi etc bundling a debian environment inside a linux device ). I was googling my day to something describing this as something common yet, nothing ( it can be done almost casually on android devices an likewise on major linux distros ).
Has it crossed anyone else's mind ? Whould anybody be interested in postinge something I might have missed or stopping me from trying ( providing sound reasons for not doing so or shouting "this is madness" for maximum drama effect ) .
Whould anyone find it interresting if..... should..... maybe.... provided that i succeeded I post the proccess ?
Hi, yes I thought about this too and spend way too much time looking for a solution like that Plase post if you find anything or even manage to do something on your own. This would totally rock, as I don't want to use any proprietary OS but would like to play some Android games on my computer.
I found a thread where someone managed to do this, but running on the Android kernel. It's still different from running GNU+Linux chrooted, because on the Android kernel runs GNU+Linux and then Android chrooted (kinda complicated ). Also, maybe we can just copy from Chromium/ Chrome OS when they are done implementing support for natively running Android Apps on the OS (which they announcend on Google IO 2014). Hmm, probably not so great (fast) since it will run inside the browser...
A google search got me here. What you guys what to do is a lil different then what i want. I have a really neat device an ASUS TRIO an intel atom powered device.
It has android 4.3 and a windows 10 in the keyboard. The problem is the android 4.3 is so dang old. Id love if it had an update available but only the french tablet asus made that copied the trio tablet only (not dock) got an update to android 4.4. So it got me thinking could I run chrome os on this tablet and gain back more of the support ive lost since the android is so old. That led me to chroot and I know I can run debian but like I said Id love to run chrome os but no one is working on this or I cant find it. Suggestions?
I do not get why this should be a problem. You simply can not chroot into different architectiute (PC is x86 or x86_64). But you can use emulator to provide "bridge" between those architectures. Its called Qemu. You can use qemu binaries for chroot into another architecture. But I do not think that what you want, you area talking about gaming a android games on PC. Thats possible too but I think its not called chroot but its again emulator (not qemu but android emulator) for example AnBox.

My best advice is to try running Ubuntu in virtual box. I've done it before without much trouble on windows 7. I recommend checking out this thread for that. It's been a huge help to me in the past. And you can find video tutorials on how to build over here.
If you just wanted to compile twrp or a kernel it probably wouldn't be a problem with those specs. You're probably going to have a lot of issues trying to build an OS with a system like that though. That's simply not enough RAM. Compiling loves ram. I've ran out of memory trying to build with 8gb of RAM in virtual box before. Your CPU specs are also very important here. You'll want at least 4 cores to run the box by itself. It is very system intensive, and can easily make your host OS inoperable while running. I have the following specs, and virtual box will cripple my PC if I try to build an OS on it.
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 @3.8GHz (6 cores, 12 threads)
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 (3gb)
Ram: 8gb DDR4 @2800MHz
6TB HDD (7200rpm)
For simple projects it's very useful, but for OS building in vitual box you really need a very beefy machine.
Languages: Linux, and lots of it. There's no way around that. You'll also need to be very familiar terminal commands. It is not for the faint of heart. I wish you luck.
