Guys, I've looked through the threads here but I can't seem to find a rom which is stock, but debloated and optimized. I am on CM11 now but I am experiencing very bad battery life and some instability. I will be passing my S3 to my daughter soon and I would like to have a stable rom with good performance and battery life. It would be best if the ROM would be a modded stock rom which includes the factory languages, Icelandic to be exact
Can anyone point me in the right direction? It doesn't need to be Kit Kat, just a stable and fast rom.
Thanks!
Try this.

giving me error file corrupt, redownloading doesn't help, flashed 8 different versions of twrp
@bjornvil: I guess your daughter often uses internet - then JB or KK are too unsecure. I recommend an AOSP-MM-ROM: Haxynox or Slim (fewer features than CM and its clones, but fewer bugs and lite).

Hi all,
I'm currently using the stock firmware 4.2.2 and I don't have any problem yet, it seems fast and everything but I heard custom rom are usually faster.
I have checked a few roms and I'd like to try them but what I usually see when trying to decide what rom to install is that features that are improved are usually listed but there's not a list of things that don't work or don't work as good we in the stock firmware.
For example, it seems like some rom have problems with gps, other with audio, some with wireless.
There are two roms I would like to choose from
-HTC OneX+ INTER CM10.2 (4.3) Nightlies & M1
and
-CarbonRom UNOFFICIAL JB 4.3.1 - 2013_11_11
which one would you advise? and what problems do they have?
is it there something else that you would advise me to install instead?
Thank you
What ROM to use is very subjective and really varies user by user. The best way to get information is to start reading the ROM threads and then when you have enough information flash it and see if it works for you.
Hi All
Long story short, my phone broke and samsung fixed it under warrantee. They returned it with the vodaphone 4.3 flavor OS which was bloated to bursting point with all the crap-ware they add. So naturally the phone was dead slow, which prompted me to flash it to the 4.3 BTU. The phone is quite fast now, but the updates don't work so I'm stuck with those dreaded initial 4.3 software bugs, wifi connectivity & battery drain to name just 2.
I'd like to know if there are any decent & stable 4.4 ROMs available? I have tried CM11 earlier this year, but that didn't work to well, it was quite buggy.
I'd love to be able to install the 4.4.x BTU, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't been released (yet?).
Advice would be great.
Thanks!

I never expirienced any strange bugs like eith new 4.3 uodates, try using some great custom 4.3 roms out here, like archidroid, neatrom, arhd etc. Just search and try, combine it with a custom kernel and your phone will be reborned.
4.4.x ism't and won't be released for s3, because, well, samsung is $#&*, but you have note2 4.4 ports, like QS kitkat Archiport, and s5 themed like Blekota etc. But these 4.4 ports are having graphical glitches which occur for some, for some not, but as I see, Lord Boeffla updated his Boeffla kernel and in new updates graphical glitches are gone, battery life is much better and wifi direct and screen mirroring are working.
So if you want best stability go with custom 4.3, if you want to test out the kitkat experience which should be good now if combined with Boeffla kernel then go with some 4.4 port.
And don't forget, best rom threads are not allowed and will be closed by moderator, you should try what xda world has to offer and then decide.

How do I load a custom kernel? I've only ever flashed with Odin and then that was just the ROM.
Just as a matter of interest, 4.4 has been released for the S3 on certain carriers.
Flash the kernel through your custom recovery.
Only the versions of the s3 which have 2gb of ram have kitkat..other versions do not including the international version
Sent from a "Galaxy" far, far away with my Ultra Ray Gun

Just as Pulseuser mentioned, 4.4 is released only for i9305 LTE variant of s3.
About custom kernel, the easiest method is to root your phone using cf-autoroot, just google cf auto root and download the .tar.md5 for Odin for i9300 S3. Then when your phone is rooted download ROM Manager from playstore and install Clockwork Mod recovery, then reboot to the recovery via rom manager app and choose install zip from sdcard, fin your custom kernel/rom or whatever you want to flash and then tap yes and reboot, but first copy your custom kernel/rom on sdcard.
It is very easy, you even have tutorials on youtube on how to flash something via CWM recovery.
Hi.
My S3 is bogging down, and was going to factory wipe it. But because I've had it over a year now, I feel like putting a new ROM.
I still need to use things like Gmail & Navigation.
Can someone point me to the right direction for a simple install for something that is better than the stock 4.1.2 i'm running.
And as I rooted this last year with the video tutorial posted on here, It was on a previous PC which I don't have so can't remember if it was Odin that I used (If this makes any difference)
Many Thanks
and happy new year!
Archidroid 3.0.2 if you want smoothness and stock android interface.
But beware of bad camera and graphic glitches.
Archidroid 1.7.18 + latest archi kernel if you want not so smooth but still better experience.
It's a Touchwizz ROM but it has a lot of customisability options during install.
My favourite JellyBean 4.3 ROM is Imperium :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37656328&postcount=2
Loads of options to customise through Aroma installer and was always solid and reliable for me.
I am currently rocking KitKat with QS-i9300-KK v3.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-qs-i9300-kk-t2755841
which is looking good and solid as a daily driver so far (I am using it with Arter97's kernel v4 beta 2 which fixes the power-off charging bug where the phone will switch on when plugged in to charge - the latest Boeffla kernel also now fixes this issue)
Both of the above are stock ROM based.
Hello guys!
You have probably had a lot of similar questions regarding this topic, but I can't find any clear answer myself.
I have watched a lot of videos about CyanogenMod, Carbon ROM, ArchiRom (can't remember the exact name) and even a ROM called "Energy HD".
It's great that there are so many possibilities regarding ROMs, but it also tends to confuse me quite a bit - I personally do like a clean ROM, just with the basic Apps installed (Internet Browser e.g.), I also would like to have a nice battery performance and, thirdly, the possibility to chose which Apps I would like to install.
I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Crash1k
There is no such thing as a best rom as this is subjective. The only way for you is to read and try the roms that seems the most appropriate in regards to your wishes.

Thank you for your help.
I have installed the latest ArchiDroid ROM. Everything works fine there, besides two things: I have random shutdowns and GravityBox doesn't seem to work, since there is already another Launcher installed (Google Now). I haven't found a way to fix that yet. Can anyone help?
Greetings,
Crash1k
-for me best rom for galaxy s3 is Archidroid v3.0.2 because it include a lot of optimizations , you can try it with boeffla kernel (CM11)
-Rom who include a lot of options ported from another roms is Temasek ( it include a lot of things like gesture lockscreen ...) , try it with boeffla kernel
-if you want maximum battery life, turn to touchwizz rom based on 4.3( Omegar rom or Android revolution) or 4.4.4 ( Blekota Note 4 or blekota s5)
I guess I will move away from ArchiDroid, since it randomly reboots several times a day, and there doesn't seem to be any support. Well, at least I tried it.
if you want a good battery life i suggest to you Liquidsmooth 3.2: it has a lot of configuration and a good battery life by the battery life mode that at off-screen change to off wifi, data, sync, kill all the applications... if you want another i say Resurrection remix 5.1.5. based on 4.4.2. Very stable and daily usable. A nice kernel for both the roms is boeffla.
Hello. I know that this question is asked a million times, but answers to them are already obsolete. Currently am looking ( I am sure I am not the only one) for headache-free, stable and fast ROM as my daily driver. I just want to install a ROM, tweak it a little if I have to and be sure it will work me for another year or so (I am to tired to flash 3rd ROM in a row to see it have major problem).
So if someone would post a brief information about ROM you are using, any custom modification, setting tweaking, flashed custom kernel and potential tradeoffs You The Real MVP.
My experencie with Rom's so far:
Archidroid v3.0.2 (kitkat)
Previously I used as a daily driver which really worked nice for me, until I got infamous "google services stopped worked" which I fixed only by turning google location service (making some cool aps unusable) . Shame, it is the best ROM I tried. The only problem I had was for camera sometimes freezing in black screen, but it happened very rarely.
There was suggestion to re-flash this ROM with flashing never GAPS from OpenGAPS project. Tried, but again got "google services stopped worked". I saw some other workarounds I could try, but I want to be sure there isn't anything better before I try it.
Archidroid v3.1.5 (Lolipop)
Based on lollipop, everything works reliably, BUT much slower then on Kitkat version. Though strangely, decreasing dpi to 240 improved performance dramatically. Many users agree that 3.0.2 is still the better one.
Cyanogenmod-13 (Marshmallow)
Looks promising, fast out of the box with some interesting features. However still buggy (torch not working on lock screen, chrome/ radio crashes phone and so on).
So far as I understand best ROM's are based on Kitkat - Lollipop and Marshmallow needs more ram to run effectively then s3 has. So even some developers suggest sticking to older Android versions. I also heard Boeffla kernel is the best one though I didn't try it personally. What makes it so special ?
Try Liquid Smooth KK rom with boeffla kernel
CyanogenMod 11
Hello,
if you want a stable and battery save ROM, I would prefer CyanogenMod 11 Nightly!
Download:

boeffla-kernel-2.13-CM11.0-i9300.recovery.zip

Heh, thanks. I actually flashed cyanogenmod 11 stable and indeed, its stable as it should. Was some problems flashing OpenGAPS but managed to fix flashing version without Aroma installer.
Could anyone tell more about boeffla kernel? What is so special about it ? I know that I can tweek some settings, but I am not going to trade stability for +100 benchmark points.

I use boeffla on all roms because of boeffla sound tweaks and easy zram setup.
Best rom is pacman kk rom, all features in one, bugless...
If u need i will send u gapps that i used before on that rom and worked great.
Only thing it doesnt work, like on all kk, lp and probably mm is noise supression for viber/whatsapp calls. I tried all kk, most lp roms, tried everything to enable ns for voip but it could not be enabled.
Touch wiz rom i recommend is ncsrom, most lightweight rom, fast and stable, made with boeffla kernel...
