Are there no roms for the NK1 4.4.2 build for verizon that aren't AOSP? I have been looking and haven't found any. I really do NOT like Verizon's stock rom and was hoping to find a rom I could flash on this phone. I just don't want to flash something that will brick my store bought phone.
Thanks

I have been told that CM won't work on retail versions of the phone. They will work on DEV Edition phones, but not ours. We need roms that are not AOSP roms. The only roms that work on retail versions of the phone run touchwiz.
Oh bummer at least I have root though. Anyway I guess I can use the hyperdrive or echo rom

I will have to check those roms out as well. I really don't like the stock rom at all. Have you tried either of those two roms to make sure they work?
Echoe's S5 rom is pretty nice. Has working Ultra Power Saving Mode feature going for it. I had problems getting MMS to work perfectly on it however. Likely user error, I admit. Tried Hyperdrive out as well; no complaints there (just switch to Echoe for a while to try out UPSM)
I personally really like Eclipse rom for the AOSP experience I was ultimately after. Completely Google-fied the rom myself by installing just about every Google app available on the market
You cant go wrong with Empty Galaxy vDecember, Eclipse or Echoe.

So I've been working on my dna for about 4 days now trying to get a kit-kat rom that has working wifi on it. But as I've read I don't think one exist. Can anyone confirm this? I was on a NOS rom before that worked perfectly.
Also, been trying to update my baseband (to fix wifi?) but nothing seems to work. I keep getting a fail message when the tool kits try push the zip through.
Error messages and phone details are attached.
Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions you guys can offer.

To varying degrees, WiFi works on all KitKat ROMs, with the exception of CM11 (at least that's been my experience). I've tried all of them, the two that I've found to be the best are Slimkat and AOSPA. Both of those worked best on my DNA.
As far as updating your radio is concerned, couldn't you use an app like Flashify?
In the end, I actually use a 4.2.2 ROM because everything works - and the WiFi/LTE is very stable. I currently use ViperDNA 2.5.2. Having the latest and greatest ROM isn't all that awesome if some of it doesn't work or is unstable.

Flashify? Thats the first time I've seen that. I look into it, Thanks!
As for Roms, this whole mess started when I wanted to get the newer "Video Highlight" Feature that allows you to add your own music.
Im going to look into some other 4.2.2 ROMS and see what I can find. Im really digging Kit-Kat though. If anyone has a fave that they like please let me know.
Thanks for the help, Yehudah!

My preference is ViperDNA 2.5.2. It's a Sense5 4.2.2 ROM with the Aroma installer. So you can install or not install as much or as little of the entire package as you like. I happen to like light ROMs, so I remove almost everything and only install stuff I use.
Haven't used any sense based KitKat roms, but I've never had a WiFi issue on cm or aosp based kk roms.
I use the viper 3.0.1 not updating to the newest version yet I'm letting them work some more bugs out.

Hi everyone! I need some help updating my S4. I rooted it awhile back and I'm very much of the mindset of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so since it was doing everything I wanted, I've just left it alone and kept dismissing the prompt to install the OTA update. Now I'm having some issues and want some features of the newer versions of Android, so I was looking around for the best way to update it while keeping my root access. All the guides I can find, however, talk about upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 or 4.2 to 4.3. So I was wondering...
1. What version should I update to? On my last phone, a Droid Bionic, one of the big Android version updates ran so horribly on it that I ended up getting a new phone. Because of that, I'm very nervous about updating my phone and having the performance suffer.
2. There must be a way to go straight from 4.2.2 to whatever version I choose, right? Do I need to go dig up some old guides on how to update my phone so that the most recent guides are relevant?
I hope I'm not being a super noob about this. I tried Googling around, and I'm pretty tech savvy but just haven't had the time to keep up with recent developments, so some guidance would be very helpful!
About my phone:
Verizon Galaxy S4
Model #: SCH-I545
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I545VRUDMI1
Thanks so much!
Find out what base band you have, MDK, ME7?
If MDK, install recovery download rom.
Anything other check this thread out:

Advice, better read about the bugs and issues each version has. Once you go up, you cannot go back. Not ever, no never.

I put the baseband version of my phone in my original post. It's I545VRUDMI1. Or am I missing something? So that means I should use Odin to flash whatever rom I decide to go with, right? So if I went with something like this 4.4.4 Google Play Edition I can use Odin to put it on my device? But then if I decide I don't like that rom for whatever reason, I can't redo it with any roms based on an earlier version (4.4.2, 4.3, etc), but other 4.4.4 roms would work?
Thanks so much for the help!

You need a custom recovery to flash that Play Edition ROM which is not possible with your MI1 baseband.

Here's a pretty good thread explaining the different basebands.

OK, I think I'm starting to get it. So should I use Odin to flash the rom listed under "Recover by re-flashing stock" in this thread? Or should I use safestrap? What's the difference?
Im not sure if this is the correct area to post this, so please feel free to move me if needed.
Im coming from NC5 HyperDrive release 19. Im realizing i dont use the majority it has to offer and would like a way to flash the stock version. It would be great if i could also remove the safestrap program. I am thinking about flashing a GPE rom and use xposed for what tweaks i do need, that way i have full control over what bloatware i have on my phone.
Any help would be appreciated

yeah wrong subforum, but you need safestrap if youre gonna use a GPE rom simply because we can't flash a ROM any other way on this useless device. also, good luck. I'm stuck with HD until i try GPE again, I personally have not had a fully functional GPE ROM. Sure they run great but either WiFi, or data, or voice is broken at any given point. Hope they gives you an answer

I'm running the Pure Nexus ROM from this thread and have had few issues. Only notable problem so far is phantom vibrations sometimes. This is the most stable Safestrap compatible GPE ROM I've found.

I see this is in the AT&T forum. If i flash this on a verizon build, will it be stable?
I want to install a GPe ROM base from the i905 Dev Forums, specifically this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2555569
It seems that at least one person has installed this ROM on their VZW s4 before, but I can't see to find anything definitive that says it is safe to install on my phone, which is currently running the "official" GPe ROM from the VZW dev thread.
Is there a safe way to do this?

It's a super smooth and trouble free ROM for both of my Verizon MDK S4's.

I like the extra options, want the dark theme, and dislike how the "official" ROM contains absolutely no customizations whatsoever.
The loss of xposed really hurt my love of the complete stock ROMs and want something that has a been more flexibility.
Hello, not new to rooting and such but I'm a little confused. Just got this Note 2 after breaking my G2. I'm on ND7, managed to root and install safestrap. I've made a stock back up and flashed over my stock as there is no rom slot support yet. I've flashed Alliance 30 and it worked well. My question is, can I flash other Rom's like Wilson's CM12? My bootloader is still locked. Is there a safe way to unlock it? I've searched and found that if you have a locked bootloader you can't flash kernels. I think? Not trying to be annoying. Just confused. I haven't used safestrap since my old Razr days, lol. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance. ..

I think you can flash any rom using safestrap. The only ones I tried so far are DN3 and Alliancerom. They flashed with no problems. I would like to add on to this question though, Can I flash any mods using safestrap?
Right. Or kernels for that matter? It's strange because there's some people with unlocked bootloader's, some with safe strap, and some just plain old stock rooted (which was a pain in it's self).
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Free mobile app
Did a little more digging into the thread, basically if your bootloader is locked, the only Rom's that you can flash are those with the same build and kernel that you are currently on. So you were right. As far as flashing mods with safestrap, still unsure. ???

No other ROMs besides the above mentioned? Seems almost worth sending it to that company to downgrade

Installed Mocha DrIzzle, liking it so far except the network speed mod

I'd be on the "Send it Off" wagon.
I've seen destructions for using ODIN to flash a KIES image in, and then go about fixing it that way but many many more posts saying this is impossible.
What I'd like to know, if I have to go with the same darn kernel etc, is how the everloving **** to get rid of ALL and I mean *ALL* of the crapware/verizonware/amazonware/etc and completely strip the touchwhiz down to just what I need....
This phone thing is a nasty addiction....:cyclops:

Anyone know if there is a list? I was just given this phone. I rooted it, but also stuck with the locked boot loader. I did install Safestrap and did a back up, and was able to create a ROM slot, but that is all I've done so far.
Since I'm "developmentally chsllenged" (I can follow instructions, but I can't do any development work or anything) I try to just go with trusted info, which has worked so far. I just came from a RAZR Maxx HD with CM12 and am not happy with the way this phone runs.
I'm in the same boat as you guys, and I believe you can only flash 4.4.2 ROMs. That's what I gathered from the Safestrap thread. However, you can (and should) backup your stock ROM in Safestrap and flash other ROMs over that.
I'm currently using Alliance, and it's decent. Nowhere near the amount of modifications as CyanideL, which is really what I want, but can't install because it's currently on Android 5.x.
Ridiculous what Samsung has done to this phone. Glad it was relatively cheap though, good lesson to avoid any manufacturer who locks the bootloader in the future.
Does anyone know if we can just flash an older version of the stock ROM? Couldn't we odin, or something, down to 4.1.x and go from there?

I have SS and did a back up, but I thought I read about people running into problems and then bricking? I think they got them back after doing some stuff but since I am no where as talented with this stuff I try to be cautious. I've rooted and SS' ed a Bionic and ran several ROM's on that one until replacing it with a RAZR Maxx HD that I rooted (and was able to take advantage of the exploit before they pushed a patch and unlocked the bootloader).
If I can just flash over the stock ROM safely, then I'll get flashing right away
I read the issues with bricking as well, but I think those people were trying to flash 5.x ROMs. I agree about wanting to avoid it though. I have a HTC One S that I saved from being bricked a few times, but I don't even wanna have to go through the process of that for the Note 2. Here's the Safestrap thread, if you're a little wary and would like to read more about it.
As far as I can tell, you should be good with flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, since that's what I did and we seem to have the same config (4.4.2 Note 2, Safestrap 3.72). The only thing I wonder is what TWRP you have. I have the latest 2.7.0.x. If that's what you have, you should be just fine with flashing a 4.4.2 ROM over the stock ROM.
