Help porting a recovery to Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I compiled successfully the ROM for the Galaxy Trend Plus (S7580). Now before I start messing around I wanted to port a recovery (I would prefer TWRP but CWM will be OK as well)
The problem is that the documentation that I found seems a little bit outdated (mid 2012), so I got a little bit lost with the explanations.
Also, compiling intructions make reference to CM7/CM9 source trees, but the S7580 has Android 4.2.2 and as far as I know it hasn't been ported to Cyanogenmod.
Could any guru around here give me any direction to successfully compile a working recovery that would allow me to backup/restore current 4.2.2 ROM in order to allow me to start messing a bit the ROM?
Thank you in advance.

[Q] Extracting proprietary blobs from existing ROMS

Hi
Short and sweet, I am busy getting into ROM development, and as exercise to get a better grasp on what is going on, I mostly dabbled with AOSP until yesterday. I am in the process of porting Cyanogenmod 10.2 to Galaxy S2 (i9100).
While going through the CM instructions, there was a segment on how to extract "proprietary blobs" from CM running on the device in question. This is required as part of the build for hardware specific reasons they did not give too much details about.
I just have one query. Has anyone tried to, or know if it is possible to do this blob extraction from ROMs other than CyanogenMod?
That's all folks.

I need devices to develop for!

Hey guys! After a long time of taking a break from the Android world and focusing more on school I am finally coming back and coming back strong! But before I can start my big plans I need a device or two to develop for. I own a Galaxy Note 3 but I really do not like developing for it since we do not have an Unlocked Bootloader yet.
I am a Samsung Fanboy so I know TouchWiz inside and out! I also have plenty of experience with the stock Android OS. I currently do NOT make source builds but if you have the source code then I will be glad to!
All of my builds will be built on my Dedicated Server and uploaded on a fast 1GBPS port! I will develop for pretty much any device as long as it either has source code or is compatible with the Kitchen.
I can theme, build ROMs, and very little Kernel work. Let me know what devices you want me to dev for and what you would like to see in a ROM. I can start working very soon!
Thanks for your time!

[Q] Adding Driver to Kernel and Loading it on Device - USB Griffin Powermate

Hello wise XDA sages,
Today I am working on a project that has me working with the Android Kernel and I need some help / directions from you all who know much more on the subject than me. I am trying to get the USB Griffin Powermate Dials to work with Android (via OTG), so I can use them in an application I am writing. Luckily, this has already been done: youtube.com/watch?v=xt6Ny8lG15s so I know the driver is available for Android. Moreover, the individual was nice enough to post his modified driver here: gist.github.com/tlorens/488752123c056202ac31
So, I have spent the last two days reading and studying the android Kernel and how to make/compile your own kernel. The only instructions via Google leave me with a few questions. I was able to build a generic kernel from scratch, but have found less documentation on how to add the driver in question and then how to load the zImage once it has been created to a device so that it will use it.
Could any of you help me with this project, or point me toward more detailed resources that can walk me through this process? I have a feeling that once I do this once, it will be easy to do in the future.
My questions are:
1. How do I take the above Android driver and integrate it into an Android Kernel for one of the following phones: Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10, Nexus 7, Nexus 5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Tab 4 (I am lucky enough to have access to many devices - which is the easiest to use? Does it matter?).
2. Do I need to make an entire AOSP rom to make this work, or will the kernel be sufficient.
I appreciate you masters helping a noob at kernel work. If this becomes hard to do, I would even be willing to toss anyone willing to help some cash via paypal for a step-by-step set of instructions for making the Powermate work on any of my devices. Biggest thing, is I want to learn how to do this myself
As always I appreciate this community,
Larry

Newbie wants help to develope

Hello all,
I wanted to compile my own AOSP ROM for my LG K7 (which still doesn't have a custom rom for it made yet). I read through some tutorials, with most saying to build with the device tree. Where is the device tree for a device, and how would I build on it to make a rom for the device?
Thanks for tolerating my newbiness
You will need to start with Cyanogenmod's tutorial on building/porting ROMs. It's probably the best resource I've found so far on porting a ROM to a device that has no custom ROM yet.
wiki (dot) cyanogenmod (dot) org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
I've been trying to work on it with what little time I have but I keep getting stuck. Hope you'll have better luck than me.

What do I need to port a kernel from Android 4.4 to Android 8

Hello!
I have a couple phones that I am trying to port AOSP android to, the build has gone well but I am getting errors in the kernel after flashing which prevents boot.
Are there any specific patches that I need and if so where can I find them. I realize this might be a broad question but if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great!
