[Q] Moto Hint and Nexus 6 working together? - Nexus 6 Accessories

I've had my Nexus 6 for a week and a half and I love it, especially the always listening Google Now(Once enabled in the Google Now settings of course). Now does anybody here have both a Nexus 6 and a Moto Hint?
I've been thinking about getting a Moto Hint mostly for the always listening in your ear feature, but does that feature only work with the Moto X or would it work with the Nexus 6 too?

I'm curious about this as well. Unfortunately I think it is only supported on the moto x. But I'd love to hear other wise.
Sent from another Nexus..

The Nexus 6 doesn't work with the moto voice feature on the Hint. I currently have both, and the Hint only works as a normal Bluetooth earpiece.

Any updates here? I just ordered a Hint but if the feature of Google Now doesn't work I don't see the point.
I read that there were updates to the Hint software that fixed a lot of issues including sound.

No, the always-on voice feature comes from Motorola's proprietary Moto Voice software on their phones, the Nexus doesn't have Moto apps.

Got the Hint and updated the q&a thread.
Google Now works by voice. Just tap the hint with your finger and Now listens for the commands.

There is a specific difference to point out between Google Now and Moto Voice, as the original thread post was likely asking about the always-listening-in-ear factor of Moto Voice. The Moto Hint works with the Nexus 6 in the same way that most Bluetooth devices will work with the Nexus 6 - tap the button on the Bluetooth device and then Google Now handles your voice prompt/command. That works fine on the Moto Hint paired with a Nexus 6, just like other Bluetooth devices. Moto Voice is actually different when the Moto Hint is used with a Moto X or other MotoVoice-compatible Moto phone - with Moto Voice active, the pair would always listen for voice commands constantly from the user without ever needing to press the Bluetooth device button, and additionally there are specific Moto-only commands included too, such as music playback commands and the like. Also, when notifications come in with Moto Voice active, the Moto Hint will read them aloud to the user. These specific Moto Voice features don't work with the Moto Hint when paired with the Nexus 6 at this point. I wish they did, but I still find good functionality with the Hint/GoogleNow combo regardless.

I have Google Now 'Always Listening' active and I do not have to touch the Hint to get google now/voice actions working.

Yes, I also have 'Always Listening' Google Now active too, but the handset needs to be close enough to clearly hear me say "Ok Google". This doesn't work as reliably when the Nexus 6 handset is actually in my pocket or across a noisy room - the "Ok Google" hotword won't reliably work in those scenarios because the phone microphone has to first pick up the "Ok Google" sound, and then the Hint will kick in and take the Google Now voice command over Bluetooth after that "Ok Google" activation. It is a bit different.
I hope any of this info helps those Nexus 6 users who are considering the Hint. Appreciate everyone who contributes to xda.

Gotcha. It does seem hit or miss as to picking up the launch phrase. That means the always listening feature can be shut off to improve battery life on the Hint unit(not with phone).

You are so right, that's really important advice to improve Hint battery life. In my experience the standby difference is many, many hours. Nice post.

Anybody have issues with Hint coming unpaired with their phone?
Happens sometimes, even with fresh battery.

No, I haven't had the problem. I've used my Hint with my Moto X² and, now, my Nexus 6. Neither have had that issue.

Wonder what the issue is for mine?
No custom ROM has been flashed to my hint.

Vlingo app

anybody have tried this app? please share your experience.
tried it, like the features, but it does not work with better keyboard so unfortunately, I continue to hope for a backport of voice actions
Great app, provided me with hours of fun, once you know all the commands can work very well as long as you speak clearly.
When you dont speak so clearly some of the stuff it comes up with is brilliant!!!
Only really works very well in quiet backgrounds.
I think it works great. I've set it up with tasker to start the in-car app whenever i plug in a headset with mic.
I like it and it works nice even knowing that english is not my first language but i think it should support more languages.
EDIT: i just read that there is a spanish beta on BB...
I wish i could say love it but heres the thing....whenever i try to text my girlfriend, i get a window with add recipient on top and the text box at the bottom with no option to send....
vlingo registers my gf and gives me the option to click on her phone number but thats about it...help?
Does anyone know how I can get this app to automatically start when connected via bluetooth headset? Well it's a car navigation system but it should still work the same. That option doesn't seem to work for me.

Doesn't seem to be the case for me, I work in a noisy factory and it actually works better than when I'm in a quiet surrounding, weird because any other app using voice recoqnition doesn't work at all. I am truly impressed with this app.
On a side note... Iphone fanboys at work installed the "free" Vlingo app after they saw mine working, when they went to send the text they were informed that to use the texting feature it was $6.99. Ha Ha apple strikes again.
Is this app working 100% for you guys?
Works OK, problem I find is that it needs to connect to the Vlingo servers (via wifi or data) to check what you're saying before actually typing into text. So I stopped using it because of the charges I'm incurring.
Too bad it won't run off the SD card.
Vlingo Rocks! ***** Thumb's Up
I'm in Transportation and there is no better app when I am on the road. FREE and LOADED with useful features beta car mode is fantastic! As long as music is at reasonably low level and I speak loud and clear; it gets every word. Bluetooth settings are there, but I believe I need Android 2.2 or 2.3 on my X10 to use bluetooth as voice command mic. Other than that, it is a winner like Swype!
im having trouble with vlingo, it doesnt follow my instructions

[Q] Does (google) voice recognition work?

While the voice recognition works very well on my Desire, the tablet has problems with it. It hardly recognizes a word.
Can anybody confirm that?
Absolutely, it works great on my xperia x10 and I always show it off to friends. I on the S1 it can't recognize a single word. I imagine my embarrassment when I tried it on a friend. I can some one say why? Because afterall when you are signed into your goggle account it should recognize your voice perfectly.

Thanks a lot - good to know that I'm not allone - I bet there are a lot of other users with the same problem.
In order for the voice recognition to work, the device must come with microphone.
The question is, does the tablet comes with microphone ?

yah it does. I dont use voice recognition but that might change with ICS.
Voice recognition works for me with no problems. I haven't used it until I saw this thread. Decided to check functionality. I've used it for Maps and Browser so far, following the help tutorial.
Working great.

Today I will reset my tablet an let you know if it works.
I have the same problem.
Have you solved with reset?

I just tried it after reading this thread and it works perfect (I didn't use a microphone, just speak to the tablet).

[Q] Using Google Voice for VOIP Calls...

So, I' keep reading that you can use Google Voice to make voip calls through wifi with tablets like my YP-G70. But I can't figure out how to do it. Every post I see anywhere says to just have it forward to Google Talk. I've done that, but still nothing happens...
Maybe I'm just missing something?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated, and I really hope I didn't miss a post that already answered this. 'Cause I really looked. =\
Also, any other app suggestions that could do this better would be awesome, too.
Thanks in advance!
Use Groove IP, and link it to your Google Voice credentials.
Free US and Canada calls for the remaining of this year.

I can definitely recommend GrooveIP. And from what I can tell, you can now make calls straight from the Google Voice app using "Click-to-Call" (added in the new version of Google Voice).
I currently use GrooveIP still though, since it's most convenient. Calls sound fantastic if your on a good connection, slightly laggy over 3G in some cases.
Ahh, thanks! Installed and working gloriously.
... Although I feel kinda dumb now.
But thank you for your help!
I use spare phone with google voice it works perfect!

Grooveip is nice. unfortunately google is going to start charging next year for calls. :-(

Doesn't surprise me at all. But I bet when they do charge it's probably still going to be a ridiculously cheap alternative.
Granted, I could be completely wrong...
Talkatone
I'd like to see something like Talkatone for iOS. That app works really well and android needs something like that.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/talkatone-free-calls/com.talkatone.android
But I like GrooveIP much better.
I'm really happy with GrooveIP so far. Especially when I remembered to change my wifi back to never sleeping.
Thanks

Oh I didn't realize there was a Talkatone, thanks!
The Reason I like Talkatone is that you don't have to have 2 accounts set up. The subscription I used to setup my Google Talk account is up now ;-).
talkatone has the added advantage of being able to send SMS
Groove IP Lite
This is my first post. I'm really happy to confirm that Groove IP Lite really works with my Galaxy Player 5.0
I searched "how to make my galaxy player 5.0 a phone" on google and found instructions (both video & text) from unlocker dot com. Should be very first article.
1. Setup a google voice account
2. In the settings, set your google account phone to answer to your GoogleChat.
3. Download the app at Google Play, Groove IP Lite.
4. Follow the instructions.
Have fun with your new VOIP phone. Awesome!

Yes, the earpiece works with the phone feature only (just talking back & forth). Adjust the volume in the settings first before you make your first call. Talk about ringing your in ears, man!! The button, on the earpiece, only works the "play/pause" for your music on the Galaxy Player 5.0. So you'll to your phone the player itself. Cool? Cool.
Anyone get VOIP working well on their player? I've tried ALL combinations of different software packages with my 5.0 (grooveIP, SIPdroid, talkatone, etc) and cannot find one that offers a usable delay. Every single call I've ever made has has been laggy as hell - even with a full wifi signal, wifi security off, no firewall and fast internet. My test calls all deliver voice through the player with at least a second delay, and having a conversation is almost impossible.
I've tried playing with all the SIP/VOIP settings, played with call quality, codecs, everything! Some settings have made it marginally better but still not good enough. I also bought Tegrak overclock hoping maybe the lack of processing speed on the 5.0 was causing an issue with the codecs - even overclocked to 1.5ghz there was no difference whatsoever.
I'm running gingerbread, but I can't see ICS being any better.
Anyone have any ideas, or is the hardware on the player just insufficient?
Me too I tried all kind of settings with GrooveIP and Talkatone and I just couldn't get rid of the 1 or 2 seconds delay. I'm curious if anyone else sees the same thing or do you just not notice it? It's there.
Thanks!

Is there anyway to make the volume louder on google voice??

Aight so when I ask google voice a question I cant hear what it saying cause the voice is so dam low!! Is there a fix?? I hope there is cause I'm trying to show it off to people and I look like a dummy!! Lol I telling then how cool it is and it ain't working rite

Mine doesn't do anything anymore lol its really a novelty anyway
I end up using headphones to listen to my messages. The speaker is really soft and it's really not practical to even try using it. Either listen to the messages via headphones/bluetooth/some sort of audio out or via the earpiece.
@om4, Do you mean Google Now or Google Voice is a novelty? If voice has become a novelty I'd suggest trying to fix it! It's wonderful to have a separate phone number with a completely indepedent voicemail box.
There is an app that would let you boost volume options. here is the play link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.TEST.android.lvh&hl=en
and here is his website where you can download the full version and test it out. he also has a free version on PLAY
http://androidaudiohacks.com/
it has a simple audio boost if that all you need to do. set it to 10 first and increase from there
Lol I meant Google now, mine no longer listens. Op said when I ask Google voice a question, I assumed Google voice search/Google now
I skipped over that line haha
I think you're right, OP doesn't seem to be talking about Google Voice here
I am having the same issue with my Nexus 7 32GB Android 4.2.2 AOSP Stock
When I ask Google Now a question the replies are very low even though all my volumes are set to max.
On another note: It would be neat to change the name of Google Now so instead of saying Google you could make it Computer for all your Star Trek fans lol
I am not one of them but I thought it would be cool.
or maybe change the name to K.I.T.T
I don't want to use an app that will cause all of the volumes to increase though cuz then I'll get blasted every time I take a call by the person on the other end I just wanted to Google to be louder

06/25 Google Now Update hacking

Hey, I'm messing around with the settings here.
As you might know, Google released an update for Google Now. It now allows the use of "OK Google anywhere" and is always listening while charging, pretty much like Moto X! Yay
But it seems that not everybody is getting it, mostly folks outside U.S., and the Moto X is having a hard time to make it run.
As I always mod the Google Now to work on my mother language, I did a brief comparison between both new and old "StartupSettings.bin" and found a couple of new guys, but two caught my eye:
Code:
hotword_blacklisted_devices>XT1049,XT1050,XT1052,XT1053,XT1055,XT1056,XT1058,XT1060,XT912A
Those are all Moto X versions
and:
Code:
!relationships_peopleapi_http_path4https://www.googleapis.com/plus/v2whitelisted/people
which might be the "VIP" list to see if the user is eligible for the new feature.
Some guy from AndroidPolice assured that he could get the feature for a single-use only, if he logged out of Google Now, logged in and tried the feature out. After the first use, the feature would be removed, and all he'd get is the typical "OK Google" from the home screen.
What do you guys think? I'll try to set the whitelist to localhost here to see what happens.

Holy crap dude, it worked.
I modded Google Now to work with my Mother Language, pt-BR. I'll have a look to see if I make it able to work on pt-BR too. Every text and instructions are correct in this language, so it must only be a simple think.
Thank you!
------------------
Damn. It presents me the option to record my voice three times for later recognition, but it crashes just at the end.
So close..
------------------
So stupid! There's no need for this anymore. It has "two languages" now. I set the primary as English and the secondary as Portuguese (Brasil).
Works flawless! This is awesome. Thanks
