Could anybody help a newbe to disable the annoying startup sound I got after system update? Does deleting the sound file help? If so what is it called and how to access it?

The sound file bootanim.mp3 is inside the tablet's bootanimation.zip file. To stop the sound file from playing, you will need to either modify the existing bootanimation.zip file or replace it with a bootanimation.zip file that does not include a sound file. Also, if you turn down the tablet's volume before powering off the tablet, the sound will be muted when the tablet is powered on.
I have encrypted my tablet so I get the startup sound twice. By muting the volume I get rid of the last one but not the first. I found the bootanim.zip file with a root explorer but was not able to modify it anyway. I tried to delete or rename the zip file and the mp3 file without success. Do you guys use any specific tool to do that? Do I have to root my tablet in order to do that?

Yes, you will need root access to be able to modify the bootanimation.zip file. You can learn how to work with boot animation files and what tools you will need by searching XDA Developer forums and the Internet for tutorials like THIS ONE and THIS ONE.

I've created an independent app and have a video on the app that i sourced from the root folder. Problem is for some reason whenever i load the file from my usb onto my archos and select "move" it won't let me "paste" it into the root file, it just doesn't give me that option.
Anyone have any idea what I could do?

The root "/" is read-only. Now the question is WHY would you want to use the root folder to store files?
ok well i guess i should have clarified, i am working with a developer to create an app. He's coding it, i'm designing layout and images etc and he placed video in the root file on his archos 101 and told me to test it on my unit by putting video file in the root folder. He told me it's working on his end and sent me a vid, but i can't seem to paste it so he sent me here to inquire

Well tell him it's impossible to place files in the root "/" of a non rooted (Android) archos device. The only way to do that is to install the sde and install something like UrkDroid.
But the question remains WHY? There is never a good reason to place files in the root "/" of an android device.
well i guess that is a fair question, i guess i will have to ask him
Anyone managed to activate sound in bootanimation? I've searched around the forums, and tried different ways to do it (ex: the bootsnd.sh file) but none seem to work for me.
Has anyone successfully added sound to their bootanimation using bootsnd.sh or any other technique on their tf201? Thx.

Here's a bootanimation you can use this as a template.
The sounds are in System/etc
Note that this is a flashable cwm zip file and the bootanimation zip itself is found in System/media.
This works 100% with 2.3 never tried it with android 4.x
Hope this helped.

Or you can create yourself via RootExplorer by creating a folder in system/media/audio and name it PowerOn. Then select an audio or mp3 file and paste it in that folder and rename it PowerOn.ogg. Then reboot and voila!
But first you'd have to convert the mp3 file to .ogg

This requires root!
The sounds (by default) are stored in /system/media/audio/ui/
!NOTE: This is for system/OS sounds. Notifications etc are not stored here!
Screen touch sound is "TW_Touch.ogg" and back and menu button sounds are "S_HW_Touch.ogg"
If you would like to change the sound to something else, find a mp3 or something that you would like to use then convert it to a .ogg format.
Can be done on this website: htt$p://audio.on$line-convert.$com/convert-to-ogg *Remove $ symbols from URL
Then rename your new .ogg to either "TW_Touch.ogg" or "S_HW_Touch.ogg" dependent on what sound you would like to change.
Place the .ogg file on your sd card and move it the mentioned directory and overwrite (delete) the original .ogg file (backup first).
Then remember to set the permissions of the .ogg file to "rw-r--r--" and make sure it is named correctly, it is case sensitive.
Reboot system and enjoy your new sounds :good:
I tried everything that you said and it doesn't work for me. When i try to move/overwrite the file it tells me "Cannot copy or move file". When i try to delete the orginal file first it tells me "Warning - Could not delete". I am on stock rom and rooted. When i try to change permissions to the original files it gives me error "unable to chmod /system/media/...bla bla". What to do?
Ok. I got it. Thanks for everything!! Thumbs up!

Your root has failed, download root checker to see.
If it fails you will need to re-root with CF-Root.
Very Awesome. Thanks for the help.
I am running into an issue. My phone has been verified as rooted by rootchecker. The only way I can see the root directory on the phone is with Astro File Manager. Once in the correct folder, I can see the TW_TOUCH.OGG file and have a replacement. However I can't write to the folder. I can't even rename the original. Checking the properties of the file I don't see any notations that the file or folder are write protected. I assume the entire drive is per se with the exception of the \SDCARD directory.
Is there a better tool for doing all this? I'd like to have something I can use from a PC as well.
Thanks,
Karl
Use Super Manager or Android Commander .

First you need to Root.
There are good guides around here.
I'd recommend ES File Explorer
Download it then
Open ES File Explorer
Menu > Settings > Root settings.
Check Root Explorer
Click Grant when SU popup appears.
Check Up to Root
and Check Mount File System.
Now it will copy succesfully to the system folder.
Slightly easier
No need to do renaming. Save desired oggs to your ext sd card.
Use Root Browser (ES doesnt seem to go to system no matter)
Use Root Browser. Go to your ext sd card. Long press on the desired .ogg. Copy it.
navigate to the folder l /system/media/audio/ui/ as instructed above.
Click paste. If your file is named correctly it will ask 'replace?' click yes. Do the same for the other file.
Reboot. You have to reboot. How it still plays water droplets before rebooting Idk. But reboot and you back to clicky goodness. (who thought of that water droplet. Chinese water torture.)
Edit: I attached the two files. Change from .txt to .ogg.
operation failed?

Ok thanks. One more thing is it possible to add system sounds to it? Like a sound when i press the home button?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so flame away if I'm screwing up right off the bat...
I have a Sony Table S Model SGBT112US/S. I just did the latest Android OS update (4.0.0 (release5a)) and the remote app was completely removed. Calls and chats with Sony resulted in doing 2 factory resets, no dice. Does anyone have a DL file for the app? I tried Touchsquid as an alternative and it didn't work at all. Many thanks in advance.

Remote Control apk files from /vendor/app/ folder. Download irremote.zip from 4shared HERE. If you do not have a 4shared account, create one, it is free. The irremote.zip file contains irremote.apk, irremoteapiservice.apk, and irremoteservice.apk.
Thanks, but when I downloaded, unzipped(w/AndroZip) and installed it just freezes. Should I DL to my computer first then transfer via USB?
When I plugged it into my computer via USB I couldn't even find the /vendor/app/ folder, am I screwing something up?

Before I go into too much detail, tell me: Do you have root access on your tablet? Also, have you installed an app like ES File Manager or Root Explorer?
Yes, I have ES File Explorer.

I apologize for taking so long to get back with you. Truth be told, I forgot. Anyway...
The three apk files for the Remote Control app should be located the following directories.
/vendor/app/
/datapp/vendor/vendor0/app/
/datapp/vendor/vendor1/app/
Extract the files from irremote.zip, copy them into each directory, and reboot your tablet. After reboot, the Remote Control app should be installed.

That is probably because the directories are mounted as r/o and ES File Explorer cannot get past that. So, instead of using ES File Explorer, use Root Explorer to first mount the directories as r/w (via button in upper left corner of Root Explorer's screen) and then copy the files to the directories. After copying the files to the directories, re-mount the directories as r/o (again via button in upper left corner of Root Explorer's screen).
Do you know where to put files for Xperia Tablet S, because i also want back the IR Remote Control, and do the same files work with XTS?
I don't have the same folder directories as Sony Tablet S
Thanks in advance!

If you have root access, find the apk, put it under /system/app directory, and give 655 permission then reboot.

Sony Tablet S IRRemote files
Hallo, I know I'm quite late with this thread, however I still need these 3 files
irremote.apk, irremoteapiservice.apk, and irremoteservice.apk
for recovering my infrared connection. I got a link from this thread, but it is not usable anymore.
Can somebody tell me where I can get them from ?
Thank you in advance !

Sony Tablet S IR control
All right,
I found all three files, put all of them in the right directories and restarted the tablet.
Result: operating the remote control app I have absolutely no signal coming out from the LED (flashing light checked with digital camera).
Am i missing some other files or signal code ??
Thanks, cheers
Aronne
The Samsung Camera app doesn't give you an option for silent operation.
Yes, it's a workaround to mute your phone first, but it adds another step - which can be a problem if you're capturing a fleeting moment, and you're trying to not intrude.
The audio files are located within the SamsungCamera.apk file in \res\raw.
Would it cause any problems or malfunctions to delete those audio files, re-zip the apk and replace the original with the modified one? Would the app handle the missing resource gracefully?
If this is possible, is there anything else I need to do other than delete these files?
It would be better to copy the Audio-Files, edit it on the PC (Mute) and replace the files inside the APK. Then everything should work fine. (The phone will play the Audio, but there is no Sound in the file)
But the problem is, that you cannot update an System-App without root

That's an excellent idea. And I have root, so that won't be a problem.
Thanks!
