Leo Laporte review on Gear S - Samsung Gear S

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbW2pqUODOY
If you leave a remark please be an adult about it...
I don't know how many days he had to check out the Gear S before a review, but I can tell you he had no idea about this product and he tore the Gear S a new one..lol and gave it a "Do Not Buy".

What a bonehead ...... you can get it without a contract, you can also use it without a Galaxy device, and you can turn the volume UP! #usererror :silly:

That is fine if it is a "Do Not Buy", but please do spend some time to learn and get to know the product before giving a review beside just not knowing nothing and tearing it apart with all negative comments leading up to a "Do Not Buy". Yup, his review has alot of user errors.

"No one in their right mind would buy this". I think he is very unproffessional. And owe his viewers with this watch an apology. He Doesn't research very well or at all. And is arrogant. Never followed the guy I just like watching videos on gear s on YouTube and stumbled on it. I'm not a fan boy just like what I like. But him comparing the s to a moto 360 was laughable at best. If your too old to play the game it's time to move on. That was the most half cocked review I have ever saw in my life. Maybe he's paid well by apple.

I want those 7 mins back. Nice shirt. lol

I like Leo, he's generally pretty good. Unfortunately he's a bit of an Apple fan boy. The Gear S probably never had a chance.

I love Leo and watch a lot of his twit shows online and have been watching him since the old ZD TV days, but he is off base on this as I love my Gear S watch. He probably just didn't try it out long enough and learn to appreciate it or read up enough on its capabilities

What an idiot. He knew nothing about the watch.

I've watched Leo's reviews, and such, before (and have enjoyed them) but this one clearly showed that he didn't know what he was talking about... and I am in my right mind, otherwise I would have bought an Apple Watch (which, btw, isn't even in production yet)

How my TF201 is saving my Marriage! (lol)

I got a chuckle from this, thought id share
Received this text this morning from wifey (see screenshot)
For the first night in forever, i didn't touch my actual computer ... and sat on the couch with my wife. Which was fine, since i had my TFP with me to crush any withdrawals i might have.
Now as a different note, she wants to "talk about life" now that she see's i can sit on the couch. Any married people out there know wtf that means, and what i should prepare for???
Never thought the TFP would change my life THAT MUCH!
It's hard to tell, it seems like she might be about to hit you with something. Whenever they say lets talk thats trouble, talking should be natural not told to do so.
I'm curious how you go "in" your computer.
Maybe she wants a baby?
Dude at least you can use your prime, my wife always wants to steal it to play AngryBirds/Where's my water...
In my experience, usually women just want to spend time with you when they wanna "talk about life". Just give her your full attention, imho thats more important then what you actually talk about^^ If she's a talker you ask "so how are you" and listen and nod and sometimes paraphrase what she just said. If she's a listener well I guess you just tell her the imba stuff you can do with your prime
Cheers mate!

finally i wanted to use my prime so i sat on the couch next to her ... and this is what i get. Now i have to "talk" crap!! !
lol haha
Uh Oh!
My ex-wife started our last conversation as a married couple with that line.
Just kidding. We actually spoke quite a bit, right up to the divorce.
I was impossible to live with! I'm sure your wifey just wants to spend more time with you.
Man you guys makes me not wanna get married lol. My gf gets mad when I'm always on my tablet. I'm gonna be SOL if shes already mad at that now.

It's about time, balance your free time between her and your hobbies, but just give her more time, you'll avoid any issues by following this advice.
Women are funny that way. It's not necessarily what you're doing with them, but that you're just in the same room. Mine's the same way: before, I'd do my early evening browsing, RSS catchup, and such on my desktop or notebook, but not usually in the same room where she's cooking dinner.
Now that I have the Prime (although to be precise it actually started with the original Transformer), I can do exactly the same stuff, but sit in the same room with her. And she's happier.
Go figure.

To the OP...see how the Prime is changing your life for the better..lol.
I have the address for a strip club on the other side of town, but cannot get my damn GPS to work!!
lol ok, bad joke )
So now you ignore her with the tablet every night rather than ignoring her in a different room?

Agreed cloud5.
Rsarno, I think you should dedicate time everyday AWAY from your prime/PC to talk about her day (and yours). Let me know how that goes.
The problem is now she'll expect you on the couch every night. Long gone are the nights of reddit, wow or SWTOR. You are now available. If she wants to talk about having a baby. Kiss the rest of your life goodbye. Those long sessions of doing anything you want...gone. Your life now revolves around a small devil that bursts forth from your wifes once attractive area...now it's only seen as a baby maker and is no longer sexy.
Yeah...welcome to my world buddy.

Come on Guys !!!!
Surely you know by now when the Wife says we gotta Talk it actually means ...You're gonna sit & listen !!!!
Darn I hope "she who must be obeyed" don't read this LMAO
My wife is kind of going the other way, let me explain.
I am 41 y.o, always been a gamer. My wife is 36, doesn't really understand hard core gaming and the time it takes to get decent at it. She would always give me **** about how much time I was playing games instead of hanging out with her. We have 2 kids 5 and 8.
So last summer/fall I helped coach my son in football and the wife and I became friends with this group of people (coaches and wives). The coaches started talking about MW3 and how much fun it is to play.
Fast forward to about a week ago, I come home and see MW3 sitting on the couch, I asked "Did you buy this?", she says yes. In the back of my head I am like no way, she hates this stuff. I set it up for her to play, I wanted her to get a feel of how the game plays. She comes up from playing, eyes huge like someone thats been on a 2 day bender. The first thing she says to me is "This is like crack, so fun!!!"
I looked at her and said, now you know why I would disappear for hours on end playing against my friends. She looked at me kind of sad face and said "sorry, if only I had known how fun it was and to play and talk to friends no matter where they are, I would've done this a long time ago."
Needless to say, it is never too late to try something.
It's over dude.
RUN!!!!

Cnet Street view review

This is a video of the note reviewed by regular people on the street. Can't say I agree with them but here it is.
http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57...-note-the-wrong-type-of-bulge-in-your-pocket/
Sent from the SuperStreak! ;-)
The people they interviewed actually seemed pretty open to it - more so than I would have expected. I was expecting more wide-eyed BGR-type reactions, but at least the woman in the middle of the video seemed like she wanted to keep it.
I was slightly surprised to see that both of the guys thought it was too big for a phone, when both of the girls seemed all for it. I still don't get the first guy's opinion that carrying two devices is more practical than one that can fit both bills quite well. Also, the second guy doesn't realize the hypocrisy in his opinion. He says the stylus is just one more thing to carry, one more thing to use, and doesn't like the idea of it; even though it is stored inside the device and you don't need to use it....hmmm? Then he goes to say that he likes carrying two devices around more so than the possibility of having both in one pocket-able design. Doesn't add up in my mind. I don't think I will ever understand the full power of the iSheep.
I think the girls are smart and realize the true potential of this device. They realize that they shouldn't care if somebody thinks their phone is huge, that it is still pocket-able, and it can be a very useful all-in-one device.

Zach at BGR has issues

This is seriously the most bias review I have ever seen. He basically hates the phone because of the size and claims that it's not for anyone except Basketball players. Really?
Two local AT&T stores are currently sold out on this device. It's clearly selling. Zach should probably give up writing reviews and stick to opinion pieces.

Yeah the initial review they did was pretty garbage, par for their site I guess, that's why I don't waste my time with them.
yeah the initial review was the "I've seen worse" lol
this is the same as seen in another thread. bgr are iphone fanboys anyhow.
unless you own an iphone there is no sense in even visiting that site..besides i think all the reviewwers there have freakishly small hands like the BK commercial..

Careful with the short man syndrome stuff... I got some small hands, am a short man, and would not give up the Note for anything! Why would I? I can use a tablet with any problems, I should definitely be able to use the Galaxy Note...
you know i honestly wonder if apple pays for sites like that.
Oh I dunno...he did stick with that stupid "they'll laugh at you". And if you're a fanatic of wanting to easily do things with just one hand, maybe the Note isn't for you. But almost the entire review was him praising the Note. I think the only other thing he was critical of was he wished they'd made the screen more smudge proof like on the S2.
But he did say if you wanted a large phone that would attract attention or a small tab, then this was def the phone for you. So I'm not exactly how biased against the phone he's being like Geller or whatever his name is.
I will say that this phone does indeed attract attention. My high school and middle school students were freaked out when they saw it on Mon and Tues. And the fellow teachers all wanted to play with it. I had it at the gym and a lot of people that saw it came up and asked what it was. A large percentage of them really liked it and were thinking about getting one because of the large screen to browse the web, play games, and work with files, etc.
I think not being able to text neatly with one hand is well worth all the benefits of this phone.

I meant no offense..
I'm believe the fact that I can't do a lot of things one handed easily as a bonus now. More times then not it simply stops me from using my phone when I really shouldn't.
Unfortunately, we are still living in an Apple world. It seems like more and more people are switching, and realizing that they've been duped into having a company tell them what's best for them. BGR is still under that company's spell.
This review wasn't nearly as bad as Johnathon's, but complaining about the size of smart phones nowadays is getting ridiculous. I could understand if it was an enormous brick, but it's more thin than the iP4.
Basically at this point, it does help to make a list of websites that are Apple-infested...and to avoid them completely. Obviously each click to their sites benefits them..so yeah.
I didn't bother opening the article...but seems like this other BGR guy also said no ones gonna buy the Note.
Based on 3 nearby at&t stores that I stopped by, they're currently sold out. When I asked them what kinds of people bought it, they said surprisingly iPhone people made the switch cuz they wanted the extra screen estate that's offered.
It really was a pretty fair review all the way up to the "size" paragraph. It will be hilarious looking back at the biased "journalism" of BGR and other iphanboi sites when the Note is finally recognized as a truly trendsetting device in about a year.

Then I guess you missed his comments on how he got a fulls day use out of one battery charge and how gorgeous the screen was and how fast it was and how nice the hardware looked? He actually listed a lot of good things about the Note.
And I don't see where he actually made fun of a person using the phone. He said it would attract attention and that it was a phone made for a basketball player but he never insulted anyone that would buy the phone. I think he even said if you shrunk it down about 20%, so that would drop it back down to around the 4.3/4.5" mark. So he's not exactly against phones larger than the iPhone.

From his original "review" and his dumb comments on his twitter account, I honestly think he just threw in a couple of positives after taking so much heat for his original assessment so that he could look less biased. Just my opinion/theory.

The Galaxy Note exudes a coolness factor/Samsung did an awesome job advertising this

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...llion-galaxy-notes-hopes-10-million-years-end
If you seek attention, I'm sure you will find it.
Seems as if you either walk around waving this phone in the air or you are doing something to draw attention to yourself.
Its only a phone dude!
I get a kick out of these type of threads. I used to read them on the iPhone forums and laugh, but it seems the same type of people are here as well.
Probably a bit of an underage issue a well.
I've been using the latest phones and tablets for awhile now and have never had anyone come up to me and ask me about any of them . Those that say they constantly have people coming up to them at obviously seeking attention.

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

i don't know about the Advertising
but after using it hands on for a few days I'm addicted, it's so hard to get back to my T989
I get a lot of looks, and some comments. mostly "is that a phone???", "is that the one with a pen?", or "Is that the Super Bowl phone?" (referring the commercials played at the Super Bowl).
I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.

The lame response by lindenhurst has inspired me to share.
Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

::This mystical tale starts off with tragedy as most do. There I was enjoying my time at an anime convention. I was attending a room party sipping some wonderful homemade wine. My wonderful shiny Galaxy S4 pumping out music into the small radio on the night stand, while attached to a charger, as that little thing drains power faster than the energizer bunny! I walk outside to the poolside patio to partake in a puff of hookah and alas when I return merely one minute later someone had snatched up my phone and charger (All people I trusted...not doing that again)! Needless to say I freaked getting on the next computer I saw to try to locate my phone using Avast Anti-Theft (Never using it again) apparently the web console said that it wasn't installed when it was. My poor phone still on with 20% battery ringing with every call I give. Lost. Gone. Unable to be located. (Google backup codes missing from my wallet...it was a bad night).
::Anyway enough rambling about missing phones. I decide to turn this tragedy into a win...The wonderful Note 3 is coming out I thought! I shall wait to acquire it, its only a week off! So there I was, yesterday, heading to the Verizon store in Paradise Valley, Arizona. As I walked in the doors something magical was going on inside....a release party for the Note 3! There were attractive women and men giving tours of the Note 3 + Gear and handing out free stuff. I was swiftly handed a bag and given my first item a Galaxy Note 3 branded thermal cup (The clear ones that you see everywhere). This kinda makes up for some stuff I thought to myself, this stuff is cool! I also proclaimed to the person in charge that I was here to purchase a Note 3. I went over to the rep area after getting other items from the people around the room including two 4GB branded thumb-dives, two headphone splitters, and two microfiber cleaning clothes and a phone holder for your desk. This is where things get amazing....apparently this store unknown to me was a new corporate flagship or something and the first 25 people got free Galaxy Gears....I was number 25! After I finished up getting the phone the woman comes over with a galaxy gear backpack and hands me it and the Gear inside.
I think that makes up for my S4 getting stolen....
:: TLDR: Got a free Galaxy Gear.

Nope this is James K.
Great story; congrats. I lost my phone a few months ago and it was the worse feeling EVER. Glad things worked out great for you. Try Norton Security Antivirus. You can track your lost phone and do remote wipe. Pretty good.

Nah I'm just gonna get my backup codes printed properly and lamented and use Google's Android Device Manager. Nortons always left a bad taste in my mouth. Should check it out it looks spiffy.
What are these backup codes you guys are talking about?

The negative to your positive
My story is so completely and entirely opposite of the OP story... it's the negative of his positive...
I was waiting for this phone for a long, long time.... coming off a two year old DROID Bionic that never had a single problem... perfect condition... never had a scratch... and I hated it... it was slow and sluggish and was never gonna see another update.
I was on in store preorder from day one and the waiting was painful... I was on the note 3 xda forum everyday like a stalker, listening to all the cool stories about the releases going on other networks and watching all the YouTube reviews and unboxings... then... finally... Our launch day came on Thursday and my FedEx tracking showed delivered at 10 am or so.... I went flying down there at 3:30 right after work and there were two customers and two workers in the store... walked around waiting for a salesman to get free and noticed... There was no display... no note 3 to play around with while I waited... then I heard "can I help you sir?"..... "yeah... I'm here to pick up my preorder note 3"... dude says... "oh cool... I wanna see that"
Long story short, he goes and grabs the box and comes out... starts pulling the cover off the box and I give him my speech about "don't do that... I just payed a lot of money for that and ain't nobody touching it but me".... He smiles and gives me the "know it all" look and we do the whole activation dance and whatever... During the process he tells me that was his one chance to play with the phone and I screwed it up...
TLDR: I was the Galaxy Note 3 launch event in Fort Pierce Florida
Very cool story OP. There was absolutely no fanfare around my experience. Was the only person in there for the phone and a nice guy helped me out. Took about an hour to get in and out the door. No party. No giveaways. Glad I got this phone though, and interested to talk to people who got the Gear. Not seeing a dedicated section for it. Seems to have so much potential, but I wonder if it will get very much attention at all.
