Hey together. I'm a noob *duck* - but I did quite some search on google and on these forums before posting, and I'm not a very stupid noob.
Today I got the situation that no audio is audible any longer from my browser, games, audio apps, or from an audio player (all of them previously worked). This is the case for headphone and also the built in speaker. The problem occurred very likely after using skype. I also still have audio in phone calls and also I still have sound for ringtones and other alarms. Handset functioms all still work fine.
The first obvious thing I did was checking volume settings in the android settings. There I moved all sliders - the one responsible for regular audio did not give me any feedback. If I use the volume buttons on the phone while I'm on my home screen I get audible feedback - but that doesn't influence my problem.
Funnily the sound in skype still works. More funnily: during skype calls the audio from my browser or the audio player is also audible (I tried this just out of couriousity as I suspected Skype to be the cause of my problem. Et voila - I got sound from a TV News page and also from the Walkman app while the call on skype was still running. As soon as the call in Skype ended the audio from browser and adio player got muted again.
I also tried to kill skype during a call in order to kill it before it can again mute the audio - No luck. as soon as the skype app is killed also the audio from audio player and Browser vanishes.
I also tried some audio apps - all have the same issue of having no sound.
I then tried different apps which control volumes - without any luck. So at the moment I don't have audio, except during skype calls.
I guess that skype has either access to some hardware settings which aren't used usually (I hated skype for things like this as long as it had existed) - or I'm missing something very obvious. Or something else. Does anybody of the developers here know about linux settings I could modify? (is there something like alsamixer which is only possible to access via jni or similar?)
// Edit:
Just found out that toggling airplane mode ON I have sound for media (audio player, browser). (but also lose the ability to use my cellphone and network). As soon as I switch back to airplainmode OFF also audio is muted again. And for sure - I also tried rebooting in different states of my phone quite often without any difference.
// Edit 2:
looks like I found a workaround but no permanent solution - I installed an app SoundAbout (free app) recommended for similar problems in an other thread: 89996-galaxy-s3-media-volume-stuck-mute.html (I have now put output permanently to "headphones" for media sounds. However as soon as this setting is reset to the default (let app decide) it is muted again when airplane mod is set to off - looks like an other app resets it? (could not find any app obviously doing this though as I stopped the usual suspects)
I still suspect Skype as the original reason for this problem as I just recently had it updated when the problem appeard and it also messes with this kind of stuff during usage (and I don't really use other apps dealing with audio except of browser, music player which weren't updated for a long time).
Maybe also of concern:
It's an sony xperia p, running Android 4.0.3 and it is currently rooted.
I think this may be a Samsung generic problem, but does anyone know if there is a way to stop notifications interrupting music playback without having to mute the phone? Really annoying having to do this every time.

I have exactly the same problem - it was not an issue when I was on the HTC One (M7). The S6 is a lovely phone, but I really want control over this.
The fix I have at the moment is the "Don't Pause" app, which detects when you are listening to music and puts the phone on vibrate, but what I really want is a subtle audio notification which does not pause the music or interrupt my podcast.

Thanks for the tip. Yeh, I'm coming from an M8 and it used to just play the notification over the top of the music which was fine as you usually couldn't even hear it anyway. I'll check out that app.
Thanks!
Seems to me like a software feature. Using the stock music player, notifications would pause the playback of music and then resume after. I didn't like this behavior either. I started using Poweramp. It has a "Short Audio Focus Change" option that I turn off. Now my notifications play over top of music.

I also come from HTC and this issue is driving me nuts. Even when notifications are muted my device is pausing when I use Google Messenger to SEND a text message. I've no idea why sending a message would cause my music player (Spotify) to pause briefly.
The same when I use my watch's "ok Google" feature - the music on my phone stops playing... that makes no sense to me. Why would the "ok google" feature of the watch pause the music on my phone while listening?
This also happens on Google Play Music. Really annoying.

If you use Lightflow, you may be able to do this by setting up your app notifications in Lightflow and then selecting "Audio Focus Ignored" in the Labs tab in Lightflow and it may fix it.
I know it worked on my Nexus 5 but I'm unsure whether it will work on the S6. It's worth a try if you're already using Lightflow for LED control.
More people are joining...and the plot thickens:silly:

Disable the outgoing sound in the settings of Google messenger to get rid of that issue.. But as for the rest, I've learned to live with it.

Sent from my Galaxy S6 Edge
This is the most annoying thing ever about the Samsung S6. I just got it recently having switched from a One Plus One. Now I remember why I left Samsung before. This has been a recurring issue since the S1. On top of that, the audio notifications seem to be delayed and come after the vibration i.e. phone vibrates then and then the sound comes when a notification occurs.
Has anyone also experienced when headphones are plugged in with music playing and a notification occurs, the headphones cut off and music plays from the speakers?? This is especially frustrating when I'm on the bus or a quiet place.
Samsung really needs to fix this annoying issue.
hello everyone, i also was going through this annoying problem but for me i found the best solution on my galaxy s6, when im listening to my music . I went to settings clicked "sounds and notifications" then clicked "do not disturb" and turned it on . then scroll down on exeptions and u can turn off alarm , calls, messages . The cool thing is the notifications go throw u can see your notification light blinking and with no interruptions and once you stop listening to your music turn off "do not disturb" and everything back to normal. To me its the easy way on my galaxy s6 with out downloading extra apps and it works great ...
Hope it helped you guys out and can enjoy your music without any interruptions
Just to say "me too!". Sooooo annoying when listening to music or audio books. Can we some how let Samsung know about this?

I use Tasker to put my phone into "do not disturb" mode when my headphones are plugged in. I had it set up to go silent when I had my music app open before and found the headphone thing to be more effective. I haven't tried to just make it quieter, but it's probably possible.
Something to mess around with. Plus, Tasker does a ton of other cool stuff. Totally worth the $3 for the level of automation they offer.

Thank you that's been annoying the hell out of me but have changed settings now thank you! ?
This issue is still not resolved I take it? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn that crap off on my A3. I'm using Google Music.
When I listen to music the only thing that should interrupt is high priority communication. Basicly just phone calls and emergency/gouvernmental alerts. Evertything else is low-priority communications and won't ever take precedence over my music but I don't want to turn the notifications off completely.
The guy who figures having random whatsapp messages disturb your music experience obviously doesn't use his phone for listening to music while participating in several Whatsapp groups.
Hii everyone
I was facing same issue in Mi Max MIUI 8 running android MM.
I started using music folder player 2.1.4
preferences->behavior->handle audio focus->choose ignore audio focus.
Music didnt pause by incoming msgs (text, whatsapp, mails, etc).
Thanks.
Please share ur experience.

Wow you solved this for me after years of looking for a solution! Thanks!
For anyone interested, in Poweramp, go to Settings > Audio > Audio Focus and uncheck "Short Audio Focus Change"
Uconnect/ Bluetooth devices
I FOUND A FIX.
For me, using the Uconnect setup incoming sms message announcement did NOT work. It works ONLY for when you are listening to the radio. I like to use my music apps on my phone like Apple Music and like other people, Samsung Milk Music or others and when listening to this I would still get the extremely frustrating "New SMS message from (insert name) press uconnect phone button to..." blah blah and whenever I hit cancel to escape that long interrupt it would take 10 seconds to get back to my music and sometimes it would pause my music and while driving you cant simply go back in and play it. I figited with EVERYTHING. I tried the uconnect manual, I tried to disable notifications for both my message+ app I use and Apple Music and neither worked but the answer was much more simple than I thought. Here it is: go to your settings that has all the options like wifi, airplane mode etc... tap your bluetooth option and it should pull up not only the uconnect you have paired but all the otger bluetooth things you have paired. Next to it is a gear icon. Tap on that and it will appear all the thing uconnect has access to like media audio (music, videos) call audio, contact access and MESSAGE ACCESS. TURN THAT OFF. THIS WILL STOP INTERRUPTIONS DURING YOUR MUSIC APPS AND SUCH.
I have not used this with other bluetooth devices but it worked for my car and I hope it works for you too.
Hi
I recently bought a Micromax Spark 2 Plus phone running Android marshmallow 6.0
There is a weird problem i am facing in that. The ringtone suddenly stops working. If i get a call, the phone vibrates and screen flashes but ringtone doesn't work. Speakers work fine and music also plays from external speakers but only ringtone stops working. Infact ringtones from third party applications like messenger or skype also stops working (But external speakers works as voice is audible if i receive the call). Also, if i go to settings and select the ringtone, it doesn't play. Playing a mp3 song works.
Rebooting the phone fixes the issue temporarily with everything working fine. Phone works fine for a day and then suddenly again the ringtone stops working. Again rebooting fixes the issue temporarily. I have done factory reset also but still the problem persists.
Please give me some idea as what the problem could be!! Is is a hardware related issue or a software related issue??
The vendor i purchased the phone from is not replacing the handset.
P.S. when ringtone stops working, the external speaker works for voice calls and mp3 songs, youtube videos etc. Only ringtones do not work that time.
Please help!!
Regards
currently on AOSP 5.1.1 there is no volume at all, can't play music from music app or youtube or anywhere else, the problem started off with no volume when people try to call me (yes the ringer was on full volume and sound), after a few days the volume started to not work on facebook videos and youtube and other stuff, the phone speaker works so when i notice that someone does call me (vibrate works but don't really notice most calls) the speaker works i can hear the other person (mics not broken), loud speaker doesn't work, is the actual speaker broken? how do i go about a replacement if so, have looked a lot around the web and cannot find parts other than screen and digitizer. I have tried flashing the firmware with twrp and sp flashtool, formatting everything and tried different versions of firmwares and still the same not fixed, also tried custom roms... any suggestions?
I have flashed my phone to stock Android 5.1 as this is the only stable version and all is working well apart from the microphone. When I receive a call the ringtone occurs and i can hear the other person but they can't hear me. I also tested the mic on google but nothing happened.
However, I downloaded TestYourAndroid from Play store and the mic works so I know it's got to be a firmware issue.
Also I can record voice by recording app
If you can help me I would be most grateful.
Note. this is android 5.1 lollipop so it doesn't have full permissions mode, I can access permissions for downloaded app but not for system app such as "phone" is.
Three days ago, I suddenly could not hear anything from the speakerphone when I called, so I had to turn on the speaker to hear what the other said. In addition, all the sounds from apps like youtube, games, videos, music disappear even though I turned the whole volume on at the highest volume level. But the strange thing is that I still can video call with my friends, as well as hear the ringtone and other notification sounds. I have tried factory reset and installed another ROM but things have not changed. And I also can not login or create a new account on my device after installing a new ROM. Please help me (((
