[Q] Xperia Z2 Tablet adapters and connectivity help, please. - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
First off, I hope that this is in the correct forum. If not, I apologize in advance.
I am looking to buy an Xperia Z2 tablet today. I want to use the PS4 remote play feature, but I want to hook the tablet up to me HDTV via HDMI. I also would like to use an ethernet adapter, so I can get smoother gameplay when on a network.
Am I able to use an OTG Y cable to achieve this? I have a mini-USB to HDMI adapter and I have a USB 3.0 x 3 + Gigiabyte etherent hub. Is there anyone that has any experience with this or, perhaps, point me in the right direction?
Thank you in advance for all of your help, advice and suggestions.

microUSB > USB HOST adapter [working]; microUSB > HDMI adapter [not working]

Hi guys,
1) I bought Nokia USB OTG HOST cable like this, and it works very well
2) I also bought Samsung Galaxy S2 HDMI adapter like this,
to try on Sony Tablet S.
Unfortunatelly (as I thought) - its not working.
So anyone who thinks about buying one - don't buy it(for now).
Maybe someone knows if other adapter would work?
Maybe HDMI support via microUSB port could be added
in software, of course after we will get root?

I too would also like to know if this would be possible. If i root my Sony S tablet would that help,or there is a custom rom i could flash to my Sony Tablet to enable the use of a micro usb-to-HDMI cable for video/audio output to my 42"LCD TV. I only ask bcuz none of my TV's are wifi/DLNA capable & Id like to use the Sony tablet for streaming Netflix to my TV's. I recently upgraded to the Epic 4G Touch/Galaxy S II & i would rather use my tablet for streaming than my Galaxy S II. Thanks for any info
It would be pretty cool to play a nice graphics game on the Tablet S with it displaying on the 42 monitor!

I think tablet will not give hd resolusion from netflix. I think it will be the same as on galaxy s ii.

Folks, this tablet does not have HDMI out. Even when it's possible to root it, that won't help.

Galaxy S2 doesnt have HDMI out, and work with adapter. How can you be so sure that its not possible?
Hi Condi,
While the Galaxy S2 doesn't have an HDMI socket like you'd have on your TV, it does have the electonics required to do HDMI over microUSB. Unfortunately the Sony doesn't have this because Sony decided to use DLNA instead, mainly because their TV's have this functionality.
I did quite a bit of research on this subject before buying this tablet and confirmed it with Sony UK.
Sadly it's pretty typical of Sony to build their gadgets to work best with their own devices. Another example of this practice is the proprietory power connector that means you have to use their £30 power adaptor, which is pretty pricey for a mobile power adaptor if you ask me. It also means there is currently no car charger for it, which is extremely annoying too.

Graffy,
I purchased th Logitexh K400 for my sony tablet after looking at your post. However, the micro USB to USB converter I have failed to recognize the keyboard. Hello,
Sorry I did not see your questions ..
Step 1
- Connect the mini USB to USB adapter (mine is the one I use with my Samsung Galaxy Note.
Step 2
- Connect the mini USB adapter supplied with the K400 Keyboard
That, for me it works immediately without something else. My tablet is root.

Thank you - Brilliant!
I had this keyboard, then the Sony tablet, then I bought the special connector - and although I tried several times - it wouldnt work for me. I copied the steps in the order according to your video, and it is working perfectly. Thank you! (I joined this forum just to post this thank you message.)
I'm typing this reply from that keyboard right now, that I became aware and purcashed soley because of this thread. I wish companies would pay a royalty to users who got out of their way to show off a good product.

This cable works only on Nokia 5800.
There are no Android phones that support TV-out via 3.5mm jack. Some phones have HDMI port for this, but most don't.
Now, microUSB-HDMI adapter is known to work on some Androids, but LWW has not been tested. So we also do not know, if there is any app for it or not.
2nd way would be DLNA, but that only supports media files.
Thanks man

i still confused how to use DLNA?
I already tried the Samsung "Micro USB <-> HDMI" cable and it dindt work. But that cable it's a bit weird, you have to connect the charger to the cable. Maybe a generic "Micro USB <-> HDMI" cable works

You don't connect the charger to the adapter.
I am not sure, if Xperia's support TV-out from microUSB. If not, then likely will not work.
For DLNA, you need the original file from stock ROM.

In Xperia Mini st15a, DLNA can be used through an app what initiate an server what give access for media content like videos and photos, and if you have an eletronic like a notebook or tv with dlna certified, then they have the client to connect to the server and execute these contents. Although, windows 7 comes with dlna client, windows media center, through wifi (dlna is a protocol what runs over wifi).
I asked in my country to Sony support about MHL, they say what the only device is the Xperia Arc S what have MHL ... but i can't confirm that, and the new Xperia U, P etc etc maybe have. However, for us owners of xperia 2011 devices, theres no mhl function, and i searched a lot... so i found xBounds, google it.
About cables through jack, the same, don't work... Sony have an oficial cable to x1 i guess, but not for live's or mini's.
Search also about mirrorOp app on Google Play Store.
PS3 have dlna also and Sony have an app on Play called VScreens.
ps: sry by the english.
OH Sorry guys.
I didn't see this thread. I make New thread look like this.
Any one test it?
But I think lww soport's hdmi Because in service menu there is a bottun for test hdmi.
sorry for my bad english.

"No problem" about threads, just be careful. One day I made this also . Post an answer on your thread with a link to this post.
And it we go again... all noob have hope about the HDMI in service menu...
Yes, in service menu there is a button for hdmi test. All Android with service menu have a button for hdmi test. All Android with this button kinda have hdmi software support. But, in order to use HDMI properly, the device need a hardware what support HDMI, for example, MHL need an USB socket and a circuit, HDMI need a HDMI socket and a circuit.
In this case, is all about hardware not only software. Although, there are some ways to do screen mirroring, some hardwares and softwares. I bet in xBounds.
No one tried to plug an MHL adapter in mini's or live's, because no one reported if work or not, all we have is a uncertainty. No one tried to plug another kind of cable and reported if work or not. *No one since the latest search I made.
I haven't tried to use an MHL adapter yet because I don't found it in my country so easily and don't found a MHL adapter "more appropriate".
I just need search for a friend or visit some seller what I can meet to test it. I don't found yet.
ps: here lives a bad english also

Doubt not. You're obviously too busy to look it up . Suffice to say that entering "android tv out 3.5mm" or "galaxy s tv" on a well known phone spec checker (sometimes known as 'giyf') gives prominent links to the correct accessory and video demos.

The Sidekick 4g does as well. 4pin 3.5mm TRRS (Left,Right,Ground,Video) cables work on it. So does the Galaxy S II (i9100), and according to Samsung's website, with "Samsung Exhibit™ 4G Android Smartphone Samsung Captivate™ Android Smartphone Samsung Vibrant™ Android Smartphone Galaxy S™ 4G Android Smartphone Samsung Omnia® II Touchscreen Smartphone"
Composite video on 3.5mm jack, and most of those phones have MHL over usb or hdmi as well. Suck on that non-believer.
Samsumg have nice phones.
Sadly theres no MHL, or jack, or HDMI, or magic for xperia mini/pro, et cetera.
Is really unpleasant what the demostration video for LiveDock cause the impression of is possible do tv out for any phone Xperia, but this was discussed before, the true is what the phone in demostration has your own HDMI out. Even the docks with HDMI out, is for phones that already have the HDMI out builded in.
We have just a long wait for xBounds becomes a true for us, because is the only resource what seems work as we need and want.
Of course there's another solutions, but the issue is the delay, but this is not problem, for example, if you want just show content in non-real time.
i have used the galaxy notes MHL in my xperia mini and it dosent work....!!!!1

[Q] tv out and xbox 360-controllers

I'm turning blue trying to figure out how to setup my flyer with an mhl-cable to the tv while connecting my wireless dongle at the same time so that I can play games on the tv.
I bought a usb-hub, and was eventually capable of connecting the xbox dongle in order to play games on the flyer. However, I can't figure out how to get the picture to the tv instead, so that I can use it as a regular console. It's either only the tv, or only the dongle (via a usb-hub connected to a usb otg-cable) that could be plugged in. Has anyone else been able to get both working, and if so, how?
I'm running stock HC, I've got a nokia ca-157 cable, an mhl-adapter and a usb-hub.
Not sure I understand what you are trying to do, but you cannot operate USB OTG and MHL video at the same time. If you need wireless you should use a router, not the USB connection.

He's trying to use an Xbox controller(corded) for games on his flyer, and output the display of those games to the TV...which as you said isn't possible.
Ok, now I understand. Correct, not physically possible.
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
I did refer to wireless controllers that connects to an xbox-usb-dongle that is needed, since MS didn't choose to use regular Bluetooth.
I know it would be easier with ps3- or wii-controllers since they only need regular bluetooth. Though, they're very expensive, so I'd prefer trying to get my wireless xbox controllers work. But if it's not possible to use wireless xbox controllers and tv-out simultaneously, I guess I'll have to go shopping.
How about using this Bluetooth controller for $39.99.

Ok i just saw this thread and sry for hijack but are you saying i can bluetooth one of my PS3 controlers to my flyer instead of using the on screen controls? If so plz link me to some docs.

Please read the links posted above your message.
DigitalMD,
They're not available in my country, unfortunately. Thanks for your help, anyway!
casperi,
No, I was probably wrong about that one as well. Most HTC devices apparently won't work with sixaxis. Really annoying since I bought the flyer with the intention of using it as a video game console. I knew several others were capable of it, and HTC are known for good quality, so it seemed reasonable it would work. Hope Google's tablet will work better.

MHL + HD externo

Hello there!
I'm into a little project and maybe somebody can help. First of all: if this thread is in a wrong place, forgive me.
So, the idea:
Connect my Galaxy Mega (I9200) into a smart tv (Sony Bravia) and use Kodi (ex-XBMC).
This part is done. I got a MHL cable, who connect into HDMI and one USB port to give energy power to my smart, and so keep my baterry always full.
And it's working beautifuly, in full 1080.
So.. This is the hard part:
I have one external harddisk (1TB M3) that I REALLY wanna connect on my samsung too. Yes, I know, it's only one USB port on my Galaxy, and that's the deal.
I wanna do that because I wanna my galaxy like a server too. So I'm gonna download my video using the Android into the HD and show it on my TV.
Any ideas?
I really don't wanna have my PC always on with HD connected and sharing.
IF ANYONE have ideas to share my HD from the TV (SONY) or from the Home Theater (Samsung) it's could be amazing too.
Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks lol
