Q&A for Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Will this root method work with ASUS devices?
The thread title (Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session) suggests this is a generic rooting method for tablets with Intel SoCs. Is there any reason why this shouldn't work with the newer Intel Atom-based Asus tablets such as the MeMO Pad ME176CX? The current and as far as I know, only rooting method, for the ME176X uses an app called RootZenPhone.
RootZenPhone appears to use the same exploit as your script-based root method, but wraps it up in a APK with obfuscated asset names. (Note: I ran clamscan on both the APK and your files, and both tested positive for the exploit). I prefer your method because it has a cleaner, more opensource design. I can basically read what it's going to do, at least up to the point where you run the exploit.

It should work I've tested it on Medfield, Clovertrail, and Baytrail devices, from the Asus fastboot.imgs I've looked at trigger 2 and 3 should work.
the apk you refer to i believe actually uses a function Asus only seems to of built into thier droidboot binary on the Asus when you start droidboot it looks at /factory for a file called .addon and then triggers it Asus uses it for automating things under droidboot I believe and several recoverys have been built to take advantage of it.
As for the exploit the exploit is the the script the binarys are nothing really special just responsible for setting up and starting the recovery session. recovery.trigger is a simple daemon to launch recovery.launcher and recovery.launcher is basically a small subset of cwm recovery its self.

this worked on an odys intellitab 7, now i got finnaly root . BIG THX!

Another possible device
Hello,
in Czech forum where I compiled a native-language short guide how to use your tethered CWM recovery to root Op3n Dott (I see that somebody confirmed that both T2 and T3 triggers work] one Slovak user reported that he was able to use the tool to root Prestigio MultiPad Thunder 7.0i http://www.prestigio.sk/catalogue/M...NDER_7.0i#/product-specs?article=PMT3377_WI_C. I sent him a question concerning which trigger did he use so if he replies I will send more info. Sorry for the Q&A thread, but I got kicked here because of the low post count.
Succesfully rooted Tesla L7 Tablet
Using the method described successfully rooted Tesla L7 tablet. The method used is T3 and supersu used is UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40
Is the recovery built from source?
Hello, one more question - is the recovery built from source by you, or is it a ready-made recovery from someone else? Because if you have your own tree an are building it from scratch, it might be possible to include the call of my tool used for dumping images (dump_images from merrifield_bin of dell-venue-boot-tools for signed images and possibly a renamed one from zte_gxi_boot_tools for unsigned images) to /sbin/nandroid-md5.sh script and add the tool(s) to /sbin. I know it is not the best solution but at least it would be possible to backup the images if not restore them from CWM.

The actual recovery is built by @vampirefo but i am very interested in adding that feature in and was actually going to ask you about that.
Also have you looked at any of the older update_osip source?
Can you please tell me an easier to understand method.
Because even though i understand what you're talking about, i don't know where to put the files. I understand flashing the session and all but coukd you pleeease explain how to root. Because this the first time i'm rooting a device

Thanks to Social Design Concepts for the great work. It is appreciated!
Fajfie, thanks for posting. That's awesome. If you used Windows, how did you get Device Manager to identify the Dell Venue 3740? I've downloaded all recommended driver files in this and the previous thread and I can't get Windows to identify the device. When I run launcher.bat I get DEVICE: UNKNOWN.
Any ideas?

Great work, this worked to gain root on Medion (Lenovo) Lifetab S10346 tablet.
Intel Z3735F cpu
2GB ram, 32 GB storage.
I used trigger T3 and it went through smoothly, a Great bit of work.
Works perfectly on the Asus Padfone X Mini. I referenced this thread over in the device specific forum. I used the T3 command in step 3.
Thanks!!!
Worked on my ASUS Padfone X mini (TOOS) used T3 option.
Thanks!
Thanks you. The procedure works with method 3 to GoClever Insignia 700 PRO , Android 4.4.2.
I just installed IntelAndroidDrvSetup 1.5.0 with the drivers for my pc.
hi im having the same problem as GeeKerGurL
" Try to manually boot to droidboot
Anyways... everything was going ok, I selected trigger 3 to try first, reboots to droidboot (with "waiting for fastboot command") then I select recovery and get android dude laying down with a red exclamation point coming out his belly and it just said "no command" now I am soft bricked, only getting the USB symbal with the white line under it. Please help! "
i have a Acer Iconia A1830
Problems with the update surpeuser zip
I followed your guide to rooting Acer iconia tab 8 A1-840FHD with intel chip, (Wich is great by the way thanks) and evrything goes to plan until, i get to Install Zip. I get, E:Can't mount /sdcard/ Update-superSu-v2.40(1).zip Installation aborted. I've downloaded the zip from your link by desk top (windows 7) and transferred it over. Also downloaded from the tablet and just used a file manager to move it over to sd. Same msg for each. I used the T3 option. any ideas how to get the zip to install?
Zip copy to folder on your tablet (download,...) and install from recovery install. zip.
Send from my Samsung Galaxy S2 - RR Lollipop v. 5.2.7
Verified with Acer Iconia A1-830
Firstly, big thanks to the dev, social-design-concepts for making this thing work on Intel device. Thumb up~
It works wonders with my Acer Iconia A1-830 android 4.4.2.
I used option T1 and it works without any problem.
Thanks again.
P/s: Hope this will work on the latest Intel devices like Asus Zenfone 2 ;p

Hello,
THBK1-10 is a cheap dual system (Android 4.2.2 /Windows 8.1) tablet based on Bay Trail (Intel Atom Z3740D). More details http://www.thomsoncomputing.eu/dualboot.html
I'm trying to hack it, and especially get root and use non-signed zip in recovery. Basically i'm stuck at theses points, and i'm requesting directions to continue the work.
I have posted in W8 section, but obviously, this is no longer the place
General
------------
* i can use a work-around to write system (/system, /data) partitions
* i can flash signed updates via recovery
* google apps are working flawesly. Only thing is to keep original files (stock keyboard and layout)
-> i would like to flash non-signed zip via recovery, but i guess i have to build a custom recovery, or can i exploit something else ?
Root:
-------
* no auto root is working (z4root, towelRoot). Regarding towelRoot, i tryed each 8 common parameters, and i don't really know how to do others. I have also heard this is only working in 4.4.2+
* pushing su is not working. When i'm launching it, let's say from terminal, i have a code 255 return (-1). Tested with both arm and x86 version (i'm still wondering why arm su is also returning -1, i would have expect a non valid binary. Or perhaps my x86 version is bad ?
-> i'm still trying to dig this issue, and idea on how i could do ? i believe running SU was enough... but it seems not. Any idea ?
Many thanks !
Bump. the way it is booting is based on ramdisk images (one for normal android boot, one for android recovery).
I have acces to theses img, and i can, with hexedit (perhaps mounting them directly at a filesystem), view the whole init sequence.
My question is : what triggers the root invalidation ? AFAIK, everything is done as root (mounting FS, updating permissions, etc....). Basically i can't really figure how it is handled.
Thank you !
Solved !

Woaw ! I'm very happy to see that somebody tried and succeed to root the THBK1 ! Please can you share your method in a tutorial when you'll have time ?
Hello, yes !
I'm actually writing a GAPPS tuto, which is intensively tested by Zeksaine. Root will be added, as this is only a simple step inside the whole process.
This is a bit technical (read boring), but it worths the try. My TODO list is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799404 , and while i'll take a little break, i hope soon to have custom recovery allowing you to directly flash gapps or supersu.
Yes ! I confirm ! Graveen has installed GAPPS on Thomoson THBK1 / Danew Dualboot tablet with sucess ! I'm not familiarised with linux environnement and realize it, but it requires some knowledges of linux command (coLinux especially)
Graveen is the only one users identified that it can put GAPPS on android environnement concerning this tablet.
Big thanks to him !

I own a Cube U100GT and it's one of the many Chinese brothers of your THBK1-10. But mine came only with W 8.1.
I just start looking for a dual boot solution and I'm happy to know that it's is possible.
I don't need root for while, just play some games and apps.
So the original Android "ROM" of the tablet can do the job.
My version have 64Gb SSD and I've already resize the Win partition to make room for a new system.
Where can I look for a dual boot tuto and find this Android version?
Heya, can you post your partition list ?
What is the bios of your tablet ? Can you wire an USB keyboard to see this at boot ?
Basically, they effectively seems identical.
For partial update, you can find one here: http://www.danew.com/support-pilotes-manuels.php?type=218&produit=219 but it relies on existing android partitions i still have not dumped.
Android-x86 could worth a try also, although i doubt you will have all drivers (touch, gyro, etc..)

The partition list is the standard for a windows installation (but no windows image on the end):
1: 300 Mb (Windows RE)
2: 100 Mb (System)
3: The rest (Windows). My SSD is 64Gb.
My tablet already comes with a dedicated keyboard cover, so I have full access to to UEFI Bios.
There's a lot of numbers:
Aptio Setup Utility Version 2.16.1242
Vendor - AMI
Core Version - 5.008
Project Version - 3BAGR 0.03
EC FW Version - 201401101A
Intel GOP driver - 7.0.1029
Sec RC Version - 00.05.00.00
TXE FW Version - 01.00.02.1060
I found the drivers pack for windows 8 and so I could install my PT-BR edition of W81. And reserve 20Gb at the end for another OS.
It's my first UEFI machine and I'm completely lost. There's a lot of options and I can't understand a quarter of that.
On the Tabletrepublic forum someone said that my bios recuse everything except a Windows pendrive. If is true, there's no way to put Android but changing/patching the UEFI.
Android x86 is for desktops right? And the Intel site, can I find Android images there?
Thank you. What i'll do is to check if my bios is identical to yours, because there are effectively numerous options. Then, i could finsh to dump my android partitions and let you play with them.
Honestly, the trick is the OS selection system, which is bring by the EFI bootloader (and certainly a dedicated partition). Once selection is done, another EFI bootloader (windows only) is called.
let's continue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799404
I just bought the HP 7 plus 1302 (not Slate) at Best Buy for $99. I can't find any information on it, I thought there would have been custom recoverys, roms, etc. Did I make a bad choice? Can I even root this thing? Is there any cool roms for this?
Same here, Officeworks Australia have them for AU$99, and from having a muck around with the one my next door neighbour bought for his daughter a couple of months ago I'm keen to get one. Problem is, I'm not rushing to it if there's no way of rooting it, or any custom ROM support, etc...

Got the HP 7 Plus 1301 (not slate) in Australia.
Cannot find any rooting info, custom ROM's etc.
I'm guessing there are not that many of them out there so no one actually spent time "XDA-ing" them...
If anyone has any rooting info can you please share...

It was because of these very facts - no way I could find of getting root access, no custom ROMs, not a great deal of support - that led me to buy an ASUS Memo Pad for my daughter just a few weeks ago. Bit more expensive, but worth that extra for better performance, (after a little wait) root access and a fair bit more support from dev's here at our esteemed forum...

Yup, I don't think I would have bought this model if I was in the market for buying a 7" tablet.
This HP 1301 was given to me... I did not pay for it...
However, there is no way I would buy an Asus tablet after they stuffed us up with the Transformer TF101 and the pathetic way they handled the saga. I would probably go for a Galaxy Tab or a Nexus.
Pitty about community support for the HP 7 Plus 1301 (or lack of it), because it could have been an even better tab with a custom ROM.
Rooted but not opérational
Hi everyone,
I've got the HP 7 plus 1301 in france, I could get the root permission whith root genius
BUT, everytime my tablet rebbot it come back to original configuration, I'll search a way to updated the CWM and find a solution to instal a custom rom whitch is one cyanogenmod compatible to a samsung galaxy Tab 8.9.
If anyone else got solution for that troubles, you welcome
Other device:
Samsung galaxy S4 mini, cyanogenmod ceranoltex 4.3.1
Any update on this?
I would LOVVEEEEE lollipop on this.. if we could find a CM rom that works... that would be awesome. Subscribed and ill keep searching

KitKat is no good.... trouble with SD cards permissions... I would like to come back to Jelly Bean. I can't find a way to Bypass the SD Card Restrictions in Android 4.4 .... tried a lot.
"My file manager app can no longer create folders or change folder names or file names/extensions on my SD card after the Kitkat update. Also, my DiskUsage app can no longer create a usage chart for the SD card. It appears that access to the SD card has been severely hobbled for many apps. "

As there is no way to going back to JB, I advise you trust me and wait for a fix in a few weeks. I'm working on gaining root access on 4.4 and then, I will provide a fix for this SD card ordeal.
And just to be fair, KitKat has increased performance and battery life of our HP tablet (Tested myself) so it is a really great update. Worth the wait.

I have the same hp 7 plus and I rooted it with kingo root. got all permission and stuff . but whenever tablet turns off internal data resets ...
I really wanna fix this by installing the new KitKat update but I can't do it.
-This tablet doesn't read sdcard at recovery mod (which was announced as a bug by a hp employee)
-it also wipes internal storage after every bootload (tried soft reboot and it didn't erase anything)
-adb sideload won't detect the tablet ...
so how can I install the update.zip or AT LEAST fix this reset issue !!!
any help is much appreciated <3
Edit : I FINALLLY FIXED MY HP 7 PLUS !!!
try to download kitkat image from the hp support
then use adb sideload to flash the update.zip (if your devices isn't detected , try installing drivers and disable firewall )
and voila !

The reset issue is there because the bootloader wasn't unlocked. You have to unlock the bootloader and then use KingoRoot and no resets will occur.

Azpen A1023
Hello. Is anyone aware of a way to get rid of the persistent softkeys in landscape more. I press them by accident all the time and it's quite annoying. Even if I can't get rid of the entire thing it'd be at least a comfort to get rid of the damned Screenshot key.
Any ideas or solutions?
Thanks in advance.

SDK for Allwinner CPUs?
Now will this aid in someone creating a custom image for a Azpen A1023 or something else neat like a custom Kernel/CWM/TWRP or anything to help?
Sent from my A1023 using XDA Free mobile app
I figured it out! "Kingo root" one click roots our azpen a1023. then install Xposed framework, and install gravitybox. enable "hide navigation bar" under expanded desktop. add expanded desktop to your quick tiles, PROFIT!
Tried that awhile ago, didn't work well for me. Just got a Nexus 7 2013 Monday, so I can use this to tinker with
Sent from my A1023 using XDA Free mobile app
I also tried Kingo Root and was unsuccessful. In my case, it recognizes the tablet and then attempts to connect to it forever without success.
Ultimately, I've found very little about rooting the A1023. There seems to have been some progress with the A700 that looks promising, but, beyond that, this thread is one of the few pertinent Google results on this subject. So while getting CWM/TWRP up and running with a device like this is outside of my skill set, I just wanted to chime in as another user who'd greatly appreciate seeing this device rooted.
Root for Azpen a1023
First go to Kingroot . net once there scroll down until you see something called "KingRoot" download this it will be an apk. Once downloaded put that apk on your sd card. Now put the sd card in your tablet and find it with your file manager. Now all you need to do is run this apk. But first and most importantly make sure before you run the apk your connected to the internet or it will not work.
O yea just remembered and to possibly save some future questions. When installing busybox from stericson be sure you install busy box to system/bin not the default system/xbin.
And just a question for the people who have an Aspen a1023 that came out with kitkat 4.4 firmware, could you please upload the recovery image? When i got my Azpen a1023 it came with Jelly bean 4.2. And I'm only asking because the Azpen website doesn't have the firmware on it. It has Jelly Bean 4.2 but not the latest KitKat 4.4. Which isn't good because if you don't have a back up saved your going to have to revert back.
Like most allwinner devices this one come with root access enabled across adb stock. If you open an adb shell and enter the su command it should give you the # prompt instead of $. All you need to do is swap out the stock su binary for superuser's or supersu's using adb push and install its apk, you can use adb or playstore, run it and full access root is achived. You can search xda for a simular method using the azpen a700 it will be the same for the azpen a1023
Firmware Update
Can Stock lollipop be sideloaded? or is there some version of the os beyond Ics?
Azpen's latest version on their site page for this tab hints at no, but other pages lead one to question that their tablets can be upgraded to at least kitkat, but for the life of me cannot find a prebuilt image for this tablet (found one for several others). am i the only one thinking this tablet doesn't get much love?

Problem trying to root Acer Iconia Tab 8 - A1-840
Hi,
Now, I finally reached the same stage than M.Ray : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56580827&postcount=2158
Hope someone will find a solution ...
unable to run "run-me.bat"...
good evening ,
I'm sorry but I followed the tutorial but I get a message to the launch of run-me :
The specified path was not found. '' '' '' ' ' '' Is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
And of course it does not work ...
what should I do?
Not yet...
Well, I made a stupidity to install and it could not walk ...
Now I have another problem when I run run-me.bat (choice 2 / choice A2 / choice 1 / ACCEPT)
scripts will reboot my tab into Bootloader mode and start the exploit, but
I can now Vol+ / Vol- to navigate, and Power to validate
but I have not "install zip", instead some messages:
E:installer device ignored
FASTBOOT INIT...
E:Failed to mount device '/dev/block/sda1' as installr partition using fs-type 'vfat'
ition using fs_type 'vfat'
FASTBOOT CMD WAITING...
E:installer device ignored
E:installer device ignored
E:No valid installer medium found.
Could not open /sys/devices/virtual/backlight
I can only reboot but unable install Super SU
me too...
Unfortunately , I also finally arrived at the same result (with or without SDCard inserted).
There may be different sets of tablets with very slightly different characteristics ?
Excellent that worked.
It might be worth mentioning that actually rebooting into cwm recovery takes a while and it throws up various error messages in the process that can be safely ignored. These caused me to abort the reboot the first time. Giving it time solves all the problems others have posted above!
David
I have the A1409 edition according to the RMN on the box.
It also sucks that I only have 1GB of RAM in mine.
Do I still have root capability?

Hi David,
I need some precisions.
First, is your tablet the Iconia A1-840-131U (ducati2hd) ?
And if so, would you mind to give us more details about the manner you rooted that tablet ?
Thank you in advance.
Can I root this Acer Iconia A1-840FHD?
Android Version: 4.4.4
UEFI: 1.0.5
Kernel version: 3.10.20+
Image version: Acer_AV0K1_A1-840_RV0ERC02_WW_GEN1
Build number: Acer_AV0K1_A1-840_1.061.00_WW_GEN1
Image P/N: FM.NPSA0.013
So,does anybody know if it will root?
Edit:Anyone else have a backlight bright flash issue?
Mine is randomly having a brief light glitch for some irritating reason.
Yes follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-acer-iconia-tab-8-a1-840fhd-t2933317
Note that when the recovery is booting it takes some time and throws error messages just wait and it gets there then you can install the superuser.
Re backlight the intel chipset does some automatic adjustments to the backlight to save power.

re kumaraji.
No mine's a a1-840-19s6 ducati2fhd
I simply followed the method given. I did abort cwm the first time as it was throwing error messages. After checking the method again i restarted and let it continue despite the errors and it eventually got to the cwm screen from which i installed the zip i'd copied to the internal memory as instructed.

The 1gb means yours is an a1-840hd rather than a a1-840fhd - the hd is 1gb ram and 1280x800 display the fhd is 2gb ram and 1920x1200 display. From posts I've seen it seems this route method doesn't work with the hd only with the fhd
My product and safety information booklet says FHD on the front, maybe it is FHD with a 1gb chip slapped into it instead.
Or they are scamming me with a delusional booklet,or they are too lazy to print it to match the contained device.
Also,what about Root Master?
Can't find a fully english copy.
Has anyone tried Kingo,Vroot,or any other method?
I think we need to request the Kingo team to find a root exploit for it if one has not already been found.
Kingo is still active since the 20th of November's update.
A1-840 Root
Just wondering if this also works for the non HD version of the A1-840?? I don't want to try it unless i know it works with the non HD version. thanks!!!
A1-840 Root
Will this work with the A1-840? the non HD version??? i don't want to try this and have it brick my device.
I bought a sample model off someone and it looks like I got the hd model not the fhd so hopefully a root can be found for this model too.
Device:acer A1-830 4.4.2
Why my tab can not exploit in Bootloader mode ?
It showed "FASTBOOT CMD WAITING..." and stopped.
What step I did mistake.

It looks like there might be an updated file that might work with the hd model here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57227753#post57227753
I haven't had time to try it yet, though.
Windows To Go on Acer Iconia A1-840 FHD?
Hello,
I'm new in this forum, so I'm sorry if my topic doesn't match here.
Is it possible to run Windows To Go from an USB-Stick after rooting my Acer Iconia A1-840 FHD and enabling the Bootloader?
Cause I don't really like Android and want to run Windows 8.1 on the tablet.
Thx for an answer
Treymon
As said by @Primokorn, my device is very rare and so I am cross posting here for additional help.
Hi,
First of all Device specs :
Device : Quantum QPulse 100s (Not chinese, its middle eastern company)
Processor : Intel Celeron N2805 1.46GHz
RAM : 2GB
OS : Windows 8.1 Pro, Android 4.2.2 (Dual Boot)
So as the title says, i need to root my android, here goes my story...
I tried so many methods to root but was unsuccessful
Here are the points to first notice :
1. Android is a custom built android but build id matches with nexus phone ( idk why )
2.There is NO BOOTLOADER.
More on that :- The tab itself is a mini PC, and i found out it has BIOS, and in the BIOS I found 2 options,
a) EFI BOOT
b) Windows management blah something we are not interested right now.
I found out that android has an EFI boot and we can go to the EFI SHELL but i found no use of that.
3. You CANNOT connect it to a PC using a USB cable.
Ask why ? Because the tab itself is a host system and in no way can you connect a host to another host. Except maybe networking.
Now for the INTERESTING Things WE can USE :
I found a way to mount all the android partitions on the windows os and I can write to those partitions.
Now i did place supersu.apk, su, busybox to the folders they need to be, but in android terminal app it says su permission denied.
Probably some permission problems. I have tried giving chmod in terminal app and moving those files to system/bin later. But didnt work
Also no root apps, such as Kingroot, Towelroot etc are working.
Beware again - You CANNOT use USB using methods.
I need root so i can install gapps, and also because i like root.
So, I need The XDA help
waiting. . . .
3 day bump.. awaiting any useful reply..
I dont want anyone to go deep into the device but it would be useful to tell me how to root a android, whose partition is accessible from another OS ( windows 8.1 )
-_-

Why no reply guys, a week and half past the post and i have nothing. Is that the geniuses here dont know how to do this or they didnt read it yet ?
Common, this is in no way "noob friendly" forum says. If you want me to believe in the previous line forever, then don't post anything, otherwise HELP me. Is there no one out there who can solve a simple problem or are they not willing to do anything, I think I have already waited for a month and i think it was plenty time for at least one reply or suggestion. You guys are dissapointing me
