Hi there, this is a fairly specific issue I'm running into. I've tried the official forums for the app in question (Hearthstone) as well as the associated subreddit. So far no luck with either of those. Being that this is a more technical forum I figured someone here might have an idea as to what could be causing my problem.
For anyone unfamiliar with Blizzard games, they have a separate app that generates random 8-digit numbers as a 2-step authentication. When logging into the app I can input e-mail/password, it then takes me to the page for the 8-digit number. However once I put the number in, it immediately sends me back to the e-mail/password page with no indication as to why. I tried purposefully entering an incorrect 8-digit number and it does generate an error message. I then tried to log in to Blizzards game service site (Battle.net) and ran into the exact same issue. Being that both places I have run into are the same company I am not sure if it is something on their end or something on my tablet that might be causing it.
Anyways any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have yet to find anything that would give me a clue as to what is causing this.

Ok so here is a reply to my request for assistance from Hyperdevbox just in case they could help me fix the incompatibility Froyo Nook has with Spectral Souls:
"Hello,
From some users reports , there is a "random" generated IMEI everytime (which is also probably barely legal if not as a random generated IMEI could be mapped to a real existing one by accident) on the Nook everytime we call and check for it using the Android OS. This is a REAL serious issue and something that must be fixed by those who are making hacked OS build. There is nothing that can be done from our side and we shall not break the current version and put thousands of legit users in trouble to have the game running on a device which is even not supported by the Android market. If there is no IMEI, you must have NULL returned as on the other tablets on WIFI only and then the game will take the MAC address (if available) as a reference.
Kind Regards,"
The bold portion is what matters to us the most. How would I go about testing this? IE disabling the fake IMEI so i can download and install. I have a feeling the Eclair port does not do this.... and it appears that it shouldn't be a problem as the IMEI being fake has been taken account of since the other tablets also have none. So anyone have a idea so I can test this and then update so we can see if this works???
Thanks,
Adan

Back Story:
My phone was left in my house (shared with other people) yesterday while I was at work. When I got home I was checking missed calls, voicemail etc and I noticed that some text messages were missing. I looked a bit more and it seems that 2 seperate sms message threads had been deleted and a number of contacts had been deleted too. Now, this has happened before to another housemate but we couldn't prove that it had been done. We are pretty sure we know who did it but I need concrete evidence that the phone was accessed.
Phone Specs: Samsung Galaxy S2, rooted, running CM7 latest nightly. I also have Cerebrus installed if that helps.
So my questions are as follows:
1) Is it possible to see what activity was happening on my phone yesterday? I don't have any "logging" software running.
2) Is it possible to retrieve the deleted SMS messages?
I work in IT so am pretty tech savvy, just not in the workings of the Android OS!
All help greatly appreciated.
P.S. I have already been able to restore the contacts that were deleted using the restore functionality in gmail.
The short answer is no. It is, at least in theory, possible to "undelete" stuff, but it isn't usually practical. Even if you did, you wouldn't have "proof" in the legal sense.
That said, I have been involved in a similar situation. Here's the approach we used. It is reasonable to assume that this behavior will continue. Therefore, get some logging software installed. Do NOT talk about it. Do nothing out of the ordinary. Just quietly install some software that will let you see what is going on with your phone. I know there are apps which will email an alert when accessed, snap a pic from the front-facing camera, log SMS to email, remotely lock the phone, etc etc. Based on what you need to accomplish, get these set up and then BE PATIENT. wait a few days (unless you normally leave your phone at home) and leave it again when the person in question might be around.
A pic would be sufficient proof I would think for confronting a roomie. If nothing else log your sms's. I use integrated Google Voice so I'd get an alert on my PC even if I didn't have the phone (very handy, that), but that may not be an option for you.
I also use SeekDroid for remote locking, and I -think- there's a remote camera provision, but it's at a higher paid level than I am subscribed to. At any rate that's my suggestions.
Or, the simple solution: Put a better lock code on your phone.

A lock code would help prevent the behavior in the future. For catching the vandal red-handed, I believe an app like Gotcha! may do what you need.
Hi all, I usually dont post on here as I am usually able to figure most things out myself including rooting, harware replacements, app installs using apks and data, generally overall quite proficient but I find myself lost on this one. Thats where the wonderful brains of XDA come in. Basically I have an issue where a certain application uses a login at launch. The application actually redirects to a website to verify the username and password combo. During the first login attempt, it will produce a username and password error. If you close the application and attempt to log in again, same issue. The username/password error is produced in a pop up window with an ok option on it to acknowledge error. Heres where things get a little interesting. If you do not exit the application and hit ok on the error window, you then have the option to try to log in again without relaunching app. This will work every single time. So basically what I am trying to figure out is a way to trace the app on both instances to verify where the application may be failing along the network and using the second instance where it works to cross reference to see failure point. I have tried packet sniffer to no avail. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I am having some SERIOUS difficulties in lifting these Colornote app files BACK to some readable form after I was forced to do a restore of my phone. It's causing me TOO MUCH STRESS. Someone recommended your blog and that you might be able to help with this.
This problem has been DOGGING me for awhile now. Obviously, I can only spend so much time troubleshooting this on my own limited time because I have to work often and dedicate my precious time on other things. I know it's Proprietary software. But I simply REFUSE to believe that someone out there couldn't put this in a readable format; either on PC or back on my phone where they originated. There's someone out there that could look at this and say, "Piece of cake, here's what you do....". No one has said that so far though.
The makers could though, but they either don't know or refuse to help me. I also contacted them on their Facebook page, only to have them ignore me completely (which is really infuriating). I DO KNOW that others experienced this same problem that im having in the past.
I was forced to do a master reset on my phone and basically the files are not going back to where they originated from (The Colornote App). As you can see per the image I attached here, the files are STILL ON THE PHONE, but this stupid Colornote is not locating them or something! It says that it's "Unable to find application to perform this action" when I try to access the files. It's really bizarre. So these files are basically stuck in limbo. The file types are in 2 forms: IDX and DAT. I contacted Samsung and they they were absolutely worthless for any type of support and said they couldn't help because it's a 3rd party app. Same thing with Verizon.
If there's anyone that can please help me out with either transferring/resurrecting these files in a readable form, I would so greatly appreciate it!
Yesterday I downloaded an apk from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714116, I thought it should be relatively safe as it was from 2010 and no one said anything in that thread regarding it, but as soon as I installed it I received a confirmation code from Google for authentication on another phone as this wasn't my main phone.
The apk I downloaded was the one posted by "kokenjr" on 18th October 2010, the 5th reply on that page, for "extracting the full shazam database of tags".
Could anyone investigate that apk and see what is actually inside it? I didn't know it was possible for it to get the password for the account on the phone, but it seems it instantly got it and sent it somewhere and a login was immediately attempted. And a lot of people downloaded that apk. I tried scanning the file online for viruses but it returned nothing so I think it may be something undetected.
Also what was strange is that I received a Duo voice call about half an hour later from "[email protected]" which I'm fairly confident is related to this as I never received duo calls from unknown sources.
Another question I would have is, should a factory reset of the phone clear it out or could it still be there? Also, if someone investigates it, I'm interested in what it was able to do and if I should be worried about it getting in the google cloud stuff.
I'm not really sure how severe this virus is, but as it's still there on the page and someone is listening and trying to hack accounts with it and maybe many others, someone should look into it
Thank you very much
p.s. I used this account to post as I created it a long while ago to download something from here.
@Thisthename
I looked inside the APK
The app in question is just a SQLite database viewer: the database it works on is stored as
/data/data/com.shazam.android/databases/library.db - I think

@jwoegerbauer I really don't expect the cause to be anything else, as I mentioned above, the minute I saved the app on the phone and installed it, that is when I received the Google verification code and I didn't do anything regarding my google account or something like that, only browsing some websites to see how to extract the shazam tags, nothing shady and nothing else that I think could have an impact on this. And the coincidence is just insane.
Also, technically, even if it was something a factory reset should have most likely solved it right?
