The extra benefits of this is of cause the ability to remove system apps by third party apps, getting xposed framework, using root apps, scripts and so on. So all in all, if that's an interest to you. Go get it. If you don't plan on using any of this, no reason to root it then

With root you could make android apps to store on external SD, this feature is blocked by default

Jailbreaking an iDevice and rooting an Android device are not the same. iOS doesn't let you do anything. Everything is locked by os. But android has much more freedom. you can do a lot of things without root which you can only do by jailbreaking an iDevice. So first learn if you can do whats on your mind with a non-rooted phone. If you learn that you can't than root your phone.
And my advice is to learn android environment first before going further like root. Always better to go step by step. And that way you will yourself know if you really need root or not. Diving is an option too like me but thats takes patience and other things. You can cause serious problems to your phone because of a rookie mistake ( but i never did But of course i didn't do everything, and perhaps an angeloid was watching over me :victory:

I thought we were talking about stock firmware, with stock firmware apps additionally installed couldn't write to external SD.

Only system apps can write to any directory on the SD.
Normal apps can only write to their specific directory in Android/data/

@up, but having root it it's possible to run f.ex. SDFix application to make changes to system which allows any app to write in every directory of external SD card by every application on kitkat

True, but it is still possible to write to the SD without root, you just have to use the built-in file manager.
(This was my point before)

Hi all, I own a xtz 321. It seems like it not possible to move app at all to the microsd card (only movie, music or pictures).
As I'm still using firmware .253 do you know if anything changed with new firmware 307?!
Is there a way to move app to sd card? Do I have to root to do it?
Thanks in advance
No longer possible, last firmwares are the same. Last Xperia that had app2sd working was the T.
You can maybe do it by partitioning the sd, and use a third party app like link2sd or something.
Tutos are available here on xda.
has anyone tried this

That's really a pity! I hoped for something to happen with the new firmware like for galaxy s4, where Samsung "re-added" this functionality back into the latest firmware. :/
Thanks for your answer.

you can try link2sd for linking apps to sd its better than moving
If the mobile basically made as ics then jb can be updated.
So it happens...

Sorry I didn't noticed that.
If you really want to find solution for your problem, maybe you can specify what apps you want to move?
Anyway here are some possible solutions to your problem:
move apps. just saw them on google search.
[GUIDE] Simple method to move apps to SD without link2sd or scripts
Afcourse you can but you can also link application to sd by using link 2 sd...you will have to crate external FAT32 partition using minitoolbar partetion pro winzard...there is no need to downgrade to ics! All the best buddy!

Make an ext4 partition in the SD card and install link2sd or mounts2sd
Check both threads in xda, they explain everything
Seems that since 4.4 apps can't write to the sdcard but just to a specific folder on sdcard/android/blablabla
and some apps don't even have that folder
what's the deal with that nonsense?

Is installing a whole framework the only option at the moment?
What's the logic behind this crazy limitation?
Ich Don't know about the logic... Using xposed or a custom rom are the only methods I know. May be someone else got another solution.

Nonsense? No. It's for security purposes (according to Google). Annoying? Yes. Easiest way is the Xposed module, like mentioned or this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix

I understand the security reasons but would have been nice to give us the choice.
For exampe, yesterday I wanted to download something on the phone and couldn't since the download program can't write to the SD card neither seemed to have it's own folder.
Thanks for the link by the way, now I just have to root my phone

Well, unfortunately, since the vast majority of people have no clue about how their phone works or it's security, I think they just have to shoot for the lowest common denominator. But anyway, if you need help rooting, lemme know. That's kind of my forte.

Folder Mount. But you'll need root.

link2sd is better than folder mount.. if u buy link2sd plus from play store u can move apps data automatically.. all you need to do is partition the sd card before u use link2sd

It's the Xperia T2 Ultra that had the function in it's latest firmware update, not the Z1.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/07/1...ard-support-in-latest-xperia-kitkat-firmware/
But yes, we are waiting to see if Sony will release this function for the other Xperia devices. *fingers crossed*
