Hello All,
I'm looking for some guidance on how to control my android devices using python (SL4A).
Just looking to write a simple script that can power off the device. This will be eventually be triggered by Tasker... Any ideas?

I've found very limited google information regarding installing a package manager so that I may install perl or python or what have you. I'd like to be able to write my simple script programs for my open source linux phone.
It'd be nice to install gcc make compiler....banshee....mplayer natively...i'v ran them under a vnc debian install also vnc to my home pc ..but thats kind of lame our phone is already running linux why boot into another copy....why not extend our own natively by installing needed dependencies as they are needed via a package manager just as the intel/amd versions do...is ARM so crippled that it doesn't know how to install anything besides external apps with maybe a library or two?
We need to stop trying to be LIKE apple and use our linux power to which there is no competition!

ARM instruction versus x86-64 instruction. It bugs me, too. I also have a Gtab, more than double the power of the vibrant, useless without awesome apps.
Hi.
I'm a php programmer.
And I want to buy an android phone, which i can develop or test my small php applications.
I've a google search and knew I can't install php + apache + mysql on android. but I can install them on a normal Ubuntu (linux)
Another google search, I've known I can install ubuntu on android devices. first question: Is there any hardware requirements?
And: Is that Ubuntu complete? and has all features? (can I install all my ubuntu apps?)
AND last question: How can I type on Android Linux (Ubuntu)? Is there any virtual keyboard? (do you have any screenshots?) or I should use physical keyboard?
In a video I have seen from Ubuntu in Galaxy S2, he push a button and selected "Send Text" from menu, and wrote his text (command) and sent it. it's a little bad, because if i don't write my text right on the app editor (on ubuntu), I'll lose the inline syntax highlighting. Can I write directly with QWERTY phones?
Thank you, IN ADVANCE.
I have spent many years developing applications and device drivers for Windows (short pause while people make grunting noises and snide remarks)... but I recently switched over to developing software for Android. I have begun getting acquainted with the Eclipse IDE for Android app development (I downloaded the ADK bundle), and have also tried to acquaint myself with the process of building an Android ROM (ie: downloading the source and doing a build of the entire Android OS and support software). It seems like people who develop software for Linux are hung on the idea that everything should be done via typing shell commands into the terminal, and because Android is an "off shoot" of Linux, that the core developers of Android do the same (getting the source and building the OS is always described in terms of terminal shell commands).
I much prefer have a graphical UI in which I can just click on menu items and buttons to do the selected build operations. Is there an IDE (some sort of enhanced source code editor or whatever) that I can use to automate "repo" operations and to automate building the Android OS???
Hi
I have found one or two apps that allow you to execute Unix/Linux commands, such as renaming a batch of files.
However, what I'd like to do is schedule these commands so I don't have to run them manually. Basically I want cron, but on my android phone. What app should I use to do this?

Hi everyone!
I'm want to remotely reboot my cubieboard2 which runs on Android Jelly Bean.
I can connect into the device using SSH or Telnet. I just can't figure it out, how to reboot.
I was expecting that usual linux commands would run on Android.
Please help!
Cheers!
Is there an application that I can use to remotely reboot?
