Hi,
I have two SGP 4.2 players, both running the enhanced stock ROM. Recently, my daughter and I have had issues with the Youtube app on both players where it causes the player to reboot every time you try to go back to the app menu from a video. Has anyone else experienced this?
On one player, I tried uninstalling the updates to get it back to the factory version, but then the player said youtube was not installed even though the app icon was still present. A reboot made it disappear and then I could reinstall, but the issue persisted.
On the other player, I uninstalled the app completely via ES File Explorer system apps. The issue persisted after the reinstall of the app.
I have tried clearing the app storage and cache. I have tried, via recovery, clearing the system cache and dalvik.
None of these options resolve the issue. A number of reviews in the Google Play store indicate that others are having the same issues, but nobody seems to have suggestions on how to fix it.
I've search the SGP forums here at XDA, but can't see any reference.
The next thing I will try will be to pull the youtube.apk from the original ROM zip file and reinstall it that way. The original ROM version did not crash.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or success resolving the issue?
Thanks,
C.
EDIT: I pulled the apk from the ROM zip and it seems to work fine. Over the holidays I plan to dig into an apk archive to find a newer version without issues.
I have the same issue, although it doesn't happen every time. I confirm that it didn't occur with the older versions of youtube, and I've never found a solution for this

Resurecting this. I tried all of the 2.3.6 compatible versions of Youtube I could find at apkmirror.com including 5.0.21, 5.1.10, 5.2.27, 5.3.23, 5.3.32, 5.5.26, and 5.5.27, all with the same issue.
I am still looking for versions in the 4.xx series. The version contained in the ROM that does work is 2.4.4.
I know I've had a version that's worked that's newer than 2.4.4, I just don't know which one! I'll keep digging when I have more time.
EDIT: I've also tried androidsandwich.com, but can't seem to d/l any of the apks from there. I'll try later with a different browser and keep digging for an alternative source.
EDIT-2: v4.5.17 from androiddrawer.com seems to be stable.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715 this one has given me no problems. You get the extra benefit of being able to select 720p (The regular app won't let us, since our device's screen is not 720p. However, 720p on our devices looks much better than 480p because it streams at a higher bitrate. Plus this has off screen play back.

That's the only one that has worked without restating my player. The 720p option is awesome but I feel that it lags to much with my 4.2 player.

A new version of 5.5.30 was released Jan 29, 2015. I don't know why they didn't give it a new version number. I installed it today and all seems OK. Hopefully it stays stable!

So, 5.5.30 seems to work fine on my SGP4.2, but not my daughter's. I've had to revert hers back to 4.5.17.
Weird.

Since doing the upgrade to the new 2.1.2, i can no longer view flash heavy sites like IGN.com. When i try to watch a video review, the video will play for a while, then the browser closes out on its on. Its not a memory issues as i always have 110mb free before launching my browsers, and i have tried both the market version of flash and the droid X version. This same situation happens with every browser that i have tried so far. This has never happened with the previous firmware upgrade. Anyone else experiencing this issue??
Yes I get the same with my A70. Firmware 2.1.2, stock browser and droid x flash.
Mobile or full site? Just getting to the page or actually trying to view a video?

Yup, just went over to ign and tried watching a video review, after the commercial of dr. Pepper which played stuttery, it tried to load the video review and then force closed the browser.
And I'm using Droid X version.
Did you let Archos know? They will work on bugs, but only if they know of them.
My 70 is doing this before and after the update. Most frustrating.
Please guys update to2.1.3 actually works very good with flash! And i was just on ign.com and watched a vid very smooth.
I actually have default browser jumping out to desktop even with the old 2.0.71, this happens whenever there is heavy flash video content. The flash either caused the browser to jump out to desktop or it'll just display a "!" sign after playing the video for a while. I think both are a sign of out of memory.
i have this exact same problem, have no idea why
Update to 2.1.3 [as newfierideout said] it is worth it, And will probably solve all your problems.

Updated to 2.1.3 same problem, browser force close trying to watch ign.com videos, it sees the ad video before tho
Edit: weirdest thing, i overclocked to 1200 and installed auto memory manager, set that to aggressive, and ign video review played, stuttering a bit seldomly with the speaker cracking sound. Then i tried a second ign video and the device crashed.

Same situation... agfer upgrading to 2.03 all works smooth with standard browser and Flash.
Some problem with Dolphin and flash... sometimes it closes.... but ... only sometimes...
I uninstalled the Droid version of flash and installed the one from the market, now I can watch ign videos! But it pauses/jerks sometimes lol don't know why.
I had trouble finding it in the market, even with the market fix, which I did many times.
Found this solution in archosfans:

I upgraded to 2.1.4 today and still get the odd web browser shut down when playing flash.
I think its more an issue of the flash not being the right one. Archos still hasnt released its verison of 10.1.
Meantime what versions are you guys using?

Thank ou so much. Very much appreciated.
I have tried the Market fix and according to the youtube video I can find all the hidden apps. Not this one though.
Im gonna give this one a go now.
Thanks again.
ok, i searched this thread and didn't find anything on this, though i could have sworn i read of others having similar issues before while keeping up on the thread. anyways, my youtube won't work. it will load and search, but when i try to load a video, it says "There was a problem while playing Touch to retry". i've tried multiple times, over multiple wifi's and over the normal data network, it always says the same thing. i decided to uninstall youtube and try reinstalling it from the market, but the market says that your device is not compatible with this item. i was able to get it from mobilism and reinstall it, but i'm still having the same issue. should i try reinstalling the rom? and if so could i do it without wiping the data or would i have to wipe the data in order for it to hopefully work? its worked through opera for a minute, then started giving me the same issue as the app

A few weeks ago, I found both my Atrix (latest MROM) and my wife's (latest stock 4.5.145) had this issue. To make a boring story short(er), I found that this started with v5.1.10, so I found a download at androidpolice.com for 5.0.21 (using appbrain.com to find the release versions) and it worked.
However, after I did this, I found the battery life on my Atrix had severely deteriorated. I tried a reboot to no avail, and waited to see if a Youtube update might fix the original problem (using the wife's phone to test). After a couple days, I noted that the CPU would normally run at 912MHz or 1GHz and occasionally drop lower. So then I removed Youtube...and voila...CPU was then running at 216 or 312MHz, and rarely jumping higher.
In the meantime, I had found a couple alternatives for the latest v4.5.17:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340691
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398322
The first one has a modified name, so it could be installed alongside Youtube to prevent update-nagging (and to see if a future update fixes this). So I installed it, and all is well; battery life is good and CPU throttling works properly.
first option didn't work for me but the second works flawlessly. Thanks jeremywh7!
Hi, what ROM do you use? Actually I found the same issue on TopSmart's 2.3.7 ROM which is CM9 based and with the recent youtube updates after like Christmas youtube had the same issue like yours. (sorry, I'm not aware of youtube versions). Recently I installed epinter's CM10.1 ROM with android 4.2.2 and there is no such issue.

Yes, the rest is correct. Youtube app has problems with all GB ROMs, we already knew that. It's a hit and miss at best.

I beg to differ, Youtube didn't have problems at all on GB 2.3.4 of my SK17i (Adreno 205), it's Motorola's firm problem with the outdated codecs and drivers for the TEGRA ARMv7.

Right; GB needs Youtube v4 to avoid issues (see post #2). I was just pointing out that its not a Motorola/Tegra2 issue perse, but a Motorola's* GB Tegra2 drivers issue. I was surprised that it worked, actually.
* - Out of curiousity, does anybody know if other Tegra2 devices (Moto or other) running GB have this Youtube issue? I seem to recall they did...
Has anyone had issue with the audio being out of sync with the video while on Youtube in the browser? I don't know if I had this issue from the start or not (only had my nook a few days) or if it's the result of a sideloaded app.
I did try to install the youtube app and it kept crashing constantly. I uninstalled that app and now I'm wondering if it messed something up.
What would be the best way to "fix" this assuming it isn't a normal thing.
Thanks,
Rick

I had this problem and once I updated the Flash player things were fixed.
I have version 11.1.102.59
Get "Tubemate" off the market. Its much better than the youtube app and watching them imbedded.
Some reason on my device both embedded and the youtube app compress my videoo, even when i select 720p. With tubemate you get full HD quality.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I did some experimenting since my original post.
I decided to do a factory restore since I wanted to be sure it was something I did that caused the behavior. After the restore, I noticed the NT went to the mobile youtube (I then remembered I had switched it into destop mode before) which played video flawlessly. Everything was in perfect sync. I then changed to desktop mode for the full youtube and again, w/o any other applications installed, the audio was at least 1/2 second out of sync with the video. This again was directly after the factory restore without any extra apps installed.
Rick
The mobile is less taxing on the system then the full site and upgrading flash would help as well. Mobile might be using a different flash version then the full site as well since its made to run on weaker hardware then the full site is. Im sure you could find the latest version of flash if you searched google for the flash.apk
Hey guys,
I'm using the weekly posted in the subject line, and YouTube doesn't work as expected. Does anyone know of a fix?
Does the new 7.2 RC1 support it?
I can confirm it works flawlessly at the new 7.2 RC1, which by far, is one of the best and more complete roms ever tried. Specially battery life is just amazing.
Hope to help!
Awesome, looks like it's time to update.
Thanks!
So I updated to RC1, currently on faux's kernel.
YouTube still doesn't work, I tried clearing data too.

I was having a problem with it also on rc1. Videos wouldn't play, clicking links just gave me the loading circle. I forced closed, cleared cache, cleared data and uninstalled. Went to play store and reinstalled, and now it works flawlessly. Maybe the same steps will help you.

I haven't tried that. Ill give it a whirl and get back to you.
Edit: works for me.
I just get the message saying "There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry."
It doesn't show up when I turn HD off though.
I don't know if this helps, but I have my LCD Density set at 200. It's strange though, because when I first flashed RC0, YouTube worked fine. Then I believe there was an update, and it was downhill after that.

I haven't changed any LCD settings, so whatever is standard in rc1, that's what mines set at.
The LCD settings never seemed to affect it before, strange.
Ok some browsers e.g default and Dolphin use built in video player to stream youtube videos hence the circle (which is singe of loading) and usually youtube app dont kick in automatically when u open a youtube link (in opera it does kick in auto)
But on its own youtube app is working perfect (no problems what so ever)
My youtube app doesn't kick in at all for HD videos, but if I turn it off it works.
It sucks because I tend to watch everything in HD...
So opening a link from a browser works, but not the app itself. I see the kicking in concept now.
Anyone ever find a fix?
Everything works fine within dolphin browser, just not the app.
Hi All,
Youtube - playback issue:
I've just purchased a Mibox 4k MDZ-16-AB and trying to enjoy with adorable features which Xiaomi offers to the market.
But i got a very terrible problem that costs me a lot of time and headache a whole last weekend.
YOUTUBE - is not stable to play videos even though i had tried to moving from all 6.0 version to 7.0. I did try 1038, youtube got VP9 issue. Flashing to 1028, youtube has still the same.
Is there anyone who faced with this problem and know how to resolve it? Please help me!!!
Thanks~!
You should revert to build 1028 but first do a full delete of your cache.
If its any consolation, the latest beta Nougat build 1560 referenced a Youtube fix in the release notes

Hi, brother.
It said that there a small percentages of Youtube issue from factor (around 1 - 2%). Someone around me claim that they found the way to deal with this but requires to stay with 7.0 . Have u ever hear abt that before?
By the way, if you have the latest build 1560 downloadable file, please do share me.
I bought two of these box's. One for me, one for my father in-law.
I setup my own one first, immediately applying the software updates and played around with all the apps(there's not much on Android TV environment), installed Kodi and few different builds. Was satisfied enough with mine so I went ahead with the same process on my father in laws, gave it a quick test and dropped it off. Was giving him a demo and found the You Tube app wouldn't play VP9's.....uuugh... was pretty sure it was fine at my place so I dug around and found that some people thought DNS was the cause. So I updated DNS on his modem to googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but to no avail. Tried uninstalling updates on YouTube (after clearing cache), still no joy. Ran out of time so will have another crack when I'm there next. I did realise when I got home that I hadn't rebooted the modem so fingers crossed, DNS may still be the problem.
My other thought was WIFI or maybe uPNP. My modem is a DIR 885 dlink but his modem is an NF12 netgear which isn't very well spec'd.
My other gripes are no 5.1 audio and writing to USB media...starting to think I should have got an RPi3

Report. It's a hardware problem. I brought it back to the shop that i had purchased the item. The supporter checked then report that it 's hardware based issue even though he couldn't explain me why. Said, he got a lot of same cases.
Then gave me a new one as warranty terms. The new box perfectly works .
