My story. - G2 General

So, there I was, installing a firmware which had been of the lollipop variety, when suddenly my phone shuts off... reboots... completely black screen.
Didn't know what to do, my baby was dead! Started digging around the internet looking for software/something to help my problem... I tried everything possible, every piece of software to reflash my device... it had been destroyed, my partitions were all gone, Qualcomm 9008.
Then I came across Tungkick and seeing a few posts of people saying how he's a scammer etc... I decided to trust him as I'd also read of people sharing success too.
I paid Tungkick $35... within 20 minutes my phone was working and beautiful again. I would highly recommend Tungkick. Absolute life saver and genius.
Best $35 I ever spent and now my G2 is alive and kicking again!
Many thanks Tungkick, hats off to you pal. ?

Wish you luck next time but thats real high a price. I know at least one dev here can help you for free. I once saw him flash 802 stock firmware to his phone (another g2 variant) and his phone was in exact situation like yours. He then saved it easily.

I couldn't access fastboot or even recovery. The phone was a complete brick, mobo replacement or reflashed. Who was the other dev? Would be interesting to know

[Q] Emegency Mode Help

I am trying to put my Optimus S into emergency mode by following these instructions here: http://cheapcellunlockedphones.com/how-to-fix-a-bricked-lg-optimus-s/
I can not get it into e-mode for nothing. All I get is a black screen. Is there something I am missing?
Nevermind, I got it.
hm. well heres a try
it appears i cannot post to where this is most related...bricked p500h's optimus ones. phone number 3. koodo shall hate me but i will lie again and just say no turn on if noone has a solution. everytime its the update-openoptimus as the culprit, the flash after as per instructions with baseband(force close always occurs and thats the next step) fails and phone goes dead. no life. bricked. whats rather saddening is all the hundreds of posts i read here about people calling their phones bricked when they are in fastboot or emergency mode. hell life would be nice...little note to people. fastboot or emergency mode is NOT a bricked phone. phone going dead during a kdz flash and fail with NO SIGN OF LIFE afterwards is a bricked phone. im going to cry if i see someone else say. i haz yellow screen. ARRGH I BRICKED MY PHONE!!~! HAAALP OH YE WIZARDS OF XDA!!!
now..is there some trick to give this guy power aside from a charged battery and plug via ac or usb...some hidden little nub in this phone to hella reset the freakin thing? im not confident koodo gonna send another. although i will say i dont want a lg ill pay for an upgrade above n beyond. i just would prefer to make this work and say to hell with ciaoux (think thats how the young fella spells it) pretty rom...it worked the first time and thats why i want it its nice i liked it then phone bricked somehow. gone through two more tryin to get there. there has to be a way to give these phones some power tho...has to be! pls xda gurus: this is my first post and ive waited awhile for it. how to save p500h no boot no post.
cheers,.
proud champion of actual phone bricking.

No. Just JTAG. Forget it, it costs more than a PCB change or even more than a brand new phone.
lol ill try my luck, 3rd replacement(if i was honest with them none of em woulda been outright replaced, but hey i was stupid enough to brick it 3 times, not gonna be so stupid to tell the truth what i did!) tomorrow am i call and say ***k lg! gimme a nexus s! 16gb internal. really ive fought gettin the one rom with 4gb sd-ext for internal memory, non issue if i persuade them with my charm. this is what i shall do. next up...lookup what jtagging is. ive meant to. guess now i will. thinkin without a thought its jtag=tagged for garbage. yanno when they take them in and theres no power. they have no real proof, not the provider i doubt. only on amce lg gets it they know whats was done..if that. fill me in if im wrong. im quite good at gettin **** for free from telus/shaw/any of them like outfits.
JTAG is a device that will flash the dead phone with a working firmware. You need to dismantle the phone and connect the JTAG to a connector on PCB. Yeah, Google it, but as said, expensive and totally not worth it unless you are doing the stuff for living.
totally not worth it..as in how much can these devices be. and how much or where would they maybe be found. i get **** cheaper then most ppl in most cases if the right places are sought out....imma server guy to be honest but lately ive had a pile of this phone stuff start piling up. ppl dont wanna pay much but somethin can be made for sure so maybe, thanks very much for the info i be keepin my ears to the ground! my buddy is tryin to figure the formulas used for imei > puk and imei > unlock. thatd be some handy info to have too. i got this one real nice arc.....nice. boneheads tried random net unlock codes like 200 times before i seen it. shoulda asked about that before i shelled out $5 for a code i had in 2 hrs. lol guess this isnt the place for this discussion tho....
koodos sendin another. easy enough. now. wtf does this rom upgrade to ciaoux's update-openoptimus keep pooching my phones for though. 3 tries.. 3 bricks, never on the actual rom upgrade...but afterwards always force close so i run fix permissions in recovery, followed by the v20g_00 baseband upgrade........this is where it fails everytime. i should note, in the past the lge virtual modem has been present but disabled as required, but not lately. its now always lge android usb modem....i dont think i disabled that guy.....maybe the problem? really leary about running any kdz or lpdm updater now for sure. to call in a 4th time in two weeks with a dead phone my provider is gonna sorta maybe start askin questions......im pretty sure. lol goddam i needa large capacity phone, i haz a 20tb server but only a 512mb capaacity droid phone. messed. ****.

[Q] Well. My curiousity led to a hard-bricked phone

Well. My curiousty led to a hard-bricked phone
It's definetly official. I am not going to install any more custom roms after this. To make my story breif. I aquired a motorola atrix 2 phone, and had read it could accomdate a custom rom, so I used a one click root method program and the program said it had done its job. I booted into the recovery and installed the rom, which ended in an infinite reboot. Great, so I read more on how to revert back to firmware using rsd lite. I did this, but the battery was dead. so I went out and purchased anther battery, attempted the restore, phone restart, then BOOM. it stayed black and now it wont come on. wtf.
Can any please recommend the proper cable I have to order to get the phone back working>?

You should flash roms with custom recoveries that built for your device like clockworkmod or twrp recovery.

Thank you. But an experienced repair guy said my phone wasn't responding to neither the USB jtag or the fast boot. So my phone is dead forever? Should I start digging its grave?
Sure sounds this way, and you shouldn't be doing JTAG through the USB port anyway unless your phone is something special I've never heard of
But in truth rooting your phone won't damage it, it just gives someone the opportunity to do so. I'm a firm believer in rooting all androids so long as they read and understand what they are doing, its very hard to brick a phone if you know what you're doing
So although this phone may be dead forever (unless you find someone who for sure knows the proper way to JTAG it) then still consider rooting your next one, just be sure to completely understand what's going on, and try to stay away from one click roots, its hard to learn anything from this
Best of luck on your next phone
*side note, if you still have warranty and your phone is completely unresponsive chances are you will get your warranty exchange, just play dumb and say "I was playing angry birds and it just froze, now it won't turn on"

I wish I had warranty on this thing. I got it second hand from craigslist. However i've managed to acquire an HTC inspire 4G, what an upgrade from a motorola cliq xt! I would love to install jelly bean on this thing but after messing up the Atrix 2 i'm scared I will F*ck this one up too. I can never find clear and concise instructions on the internet. Every web page I visit, it seems to be someones personal way of doing it. Steps not mentioned, or instructions written for intermediate users. For example, Every video or piece of instruction i've watched on youtube regarding booting into the fast boot on the atrix 2, said something about holding volume up and power button upon booting and I would see something on the top of the screen. However that did not work, First I had to use the volume down and power button, then I would get to this fastboot screen where those recovery options werent available, from there I had to hold both volume buttons down and press the power button twice which would bring me to the recovery options screen. thats just one example, and even then for some reasons I didn't have all the recovery options the instructions spoke of... for example. Very annoying and frustrating. On a side note, is there anyone on this site who lives in the US that can unbrick my atrix 2? The guy who repair phones I took it to said theres a device for 250.00 bucks he's waiting to get that can unbrick any device. However he doesnt have the funds and had gotten laid off work. I am just having a hard time believing a simple soft user error could permanently damage my device forever and that as sophiscated as our technology has gotten there's absolutely no way to revive it.

I can't attest to the videos you saw, but for most androids this is the best site with the most info, I only suggest being sure how to root before you do it, and to understand how the method works as well. When your not understanding this is when bricks happen.
I know it can be lots of reading and lots of questions but in the long run its worth the time
As for the JTAG equipment there are many who have it and you can easily spend less than 250 on getting the proper stuff.
Every logicboard is different so maybe this machine he speaks of has a wide variety of cables that come with it, but he's still paying too much
Anyway, most people seem to charge 50$ or so to JTAG it back, if that's more than the phone is worth to you just sell it on eBay for parts

Can you link me to clear and concise instructions on how to upgrade my 2.3.7 ( i think) to jellybean on an htc inspire 4g? and is there anyone here who can fix my phone that you know of?
HERE IS YOUR PHONES FORUM
you will find links to all the guides you need here, always read the stickies in each section, this tends to have the important info you need
then anything your not sure about should be asked in the proper place within this forum for the best answers
example, question on how to root should be asked in the how to root thread for best chance of a good answer, question on how to flash a new radio should be asked in a thread pertaining to this
im sorry but i dont know enough about your phone specificly to help further but hopefully the members in your device specific forum will

Seeking Stock Rom for soft bricked LG Sunset LGL33L on Straighttalk.
Hello, I need the help of xda on this one.
I installed kingroot on my LG Sunset (Lollipop) yesterday and everything was fine. Then I ran Super-Su-me and it soft bricked.
It won't get past the LG-Life's Good screen unless I leave it for 3 hours and then it moves to the Tracfone screen and stays like that.
I have searched all over for the stock rom for this phone and have not had any luck.
I am trying to use KDZ_1_4 to flash it but I need the correct .tot file and the .dll file
Can anyone help me on this one?
Thanks.
Anyone?
Tried to factory reset via stock recovery?

I have the same phone and same problem. rooted with kingroot, ran super-sume opened super su it downloaded and said it needed to reboot and in reboot it is stuck on lg screen. tried factory reset but it starts and goes back to lg screen and stays.
I'm in the exact situation as you. Have you been able to solve the issue yet?
I am pretty much having the same problem. My LG Sunset boots to the Tracfone screen and just sits there and does nothing. I cant even boot into recovery or anything.. I hope someone finds a solution to this cause I have not been able to use my phone for a few days.

Hey man, you need to get another phone asap. For tracfones, it's pretty much the end in cases like these. I actually got another exact (lgl21g) model from ebay, so that as soon as i get the time, will see how i can (if possible) get my softbricked device revived through my new one. But i have yet to research and at all costs, avoid softbricking my new one. As for now, no one else has any idea for a solution.
It kinda blows me away to know that the android community is completely oblivious to these kinds of recent low end, but useful android devices coming out on the straight talk service. For affordable androids, they're kinda neat. But it sucks that Tracfone has completely annihilated the essential utilities that such devices need in order to be revived by the user. I mean an actual bootloader menu to do modding and fixing through. The recovery option on these devices are pretty much useless.
But if you can. you should reply with a description that tells how your device was soft-bricked. As in, "did you use kingroot then Super SUME, which caused your device to freeze on LGs boot logo screen"? If so, then you are one of the many out there who xda needs to listen to, and heavily, i mean HEAVILY REGULATE these eff-ers [http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/supersu-please-t3110954]. Because they need to specifically do more research into why their S~H~I~T~T~Y app is... well, S~H~I~T~T~Y! There are people out there promoting this app as though it is absolutely flawless and works on any android, but such a claim is far away from the truth, and these crap-app makers are only breeding more effing lying trolls. And sadly XDA mostly supports those big thugs with flagship phones problems ONLY. Not the little people like us, we're kinda on our own. SuperSUME is not supposed to force anything on the phone if it's not compatible, working something like kingroot if not being able to find a root method, then just telling the user it failed. Instead SuperSUME does something that effs it all up. Which is pretty much worse than malicious s/ware by itself.
So just hang on to your broken fone for now since it's not completely lost. Though you can take it into walmart and see if you can get a replacement, but I cannot promise you that i could come up with a solution, since I'm learning this crap from scratch as well. The only lead i have for now is to "Flash the device with it's firmware", which we know tracfone isn't gonna just hand out like free air. Sadly i'll have to reach out to XDA developers to help me once i describe this issue and experiment with whatever software out there that can help, if god willing.
FYI I just saw your post and Straight Talk sent me a new phone lol. Of course I didn't mention that I was trying to root it. The problem was actually McAfee Security. I didn't think about switching the setting off that locks the phone down if it's rooted. I made sure I did that on the new one and KingRoot worked just fine. ?

I cant re-boot into recovery after changing motherboard and then an update.

Hello all,
My first post here and I cant really think of a better place where I might get help beyond the endless trawling through the internets. I have already done. My hair is going even more grey!
I have a problem that I just cant work out.. I have already spent far too many hours trying to find ways to fix. So its best I ask here and maybe someone will know how to fix it.
I have a Note 2. Owned it since new and its been fantastic, does everything I need out of a phone and I want to keep it working. I have no interest in buying a new phone ( nor that I can afford it! )
About 6 weeks ago it died after I had let the battery run flat over night. It just would not turn on. I tried all the internet fixes and nothing worked. Sudden death syndrome I think its called. Fairly common with these I have learned.
I bought a new motherboard from China on Aliexpress. Good feedback from seller. $35. It arrived two weeks ago. I swapped the motherboards and the new one worked. I had to change the phone over to English and re-load my favourite apps, exciting.. just like getting a new phone again
It worked well enough and I was happy. I noted that in the about section, plus in the apps draw, SUPERSU. I looked this up and figured that maybe the main chip had been rooted. Possibly that the motherboard was atually a fixed secondhand one, possibly they use another chipset that needs rooting to work? I don't know but it worked so I left it.
One thing that did annoy me was that when I connected my phone via USB to the laptop (a Samsung) the photo thumbnails would not show up like they used to. I looked this up and it was common. I suggested fix was to look for phone updates on Kies.
Then about 4 days ago I decided to install Samsung Kies onto my computer and update the phone. It said there were updates to install and I clicked go.
I went through the process and it all looked good until when the update process said it had finished. Then the phone just started to flash the Samsung symbol on and off, spaced every two seconds. Bugger!
So I tried a recovery mode on kies, that did not work. I tried booting into recovery (all three keys, volume up) and it does nothing at all. Samsung just keeps flashing on and off. I have tried everything!
However- it will boot into download mode so I have tried reloading the correct Samsung firmware back on with Odin three, several times! Everytime when it re-boots it just flashes. Cant get into recovery.
This is now where I am at. I want to know how to get into recovery via my PC. Maybe through some program. But I don't know how. I'll happily load on a new ROM but not sure which and most seem to need me to be able to change some settings within the phone first...which I cant obviously do. I have looked into Omegadroid and Lineage which both appeal. But there seems to be no way I can load them on from where I am at with this phone.
I am hoping that there some sort of program I can use to 'hard re-set' or wipe the phone completely start again?
Any help and suggestions very welcome. I am not at all adept at programming so keep it all in laymans terms (I have already learned so much in the last few days that my brain might well explode!)
Thank you in advance,
Alex

Hi Alex, Welcome to XDA-Developers!
It sounds like your Note needs a full wipe indeed. But first, I wouldn't have used AliExpress if I were you! These Chinese shops cannot be trusted when it comes to spare parts.

It's very possible that the mother was a second hand one. So, so it might have been rooted by the last owner.

Actually, this is what Odin software really does. If it fails, I'm afraid you'll have to take it to a repair shop again. Or maybe you can try another firmware. If you can remember the build number that was in "About" section before you flash it with Odin, then we could figure out what you were using in the first place. Perhaps by installing the firmware of that build number, you'll get it to boot.
And oh! The correct recovery mode combination is "HOME + Volume Up + Power Button". You mentioned "All three buttons + Volume Up" (4 buttons ?!), I assume then that you meant "HOME + Volume Down + Power + Volume UP"
Hey thanks for the reply- sorry for the late reply back..
When I plugged it into Kies I had no intention to do anything other than a usual Samsung update so I didnt look up the build number or any other info beforehand.
Well..that is one leasson learned!
Yeah- it was a typo when I said what keys I pressed. In order to try and get into the recovery mode I did indeed press 'home, power and volume up'. But nothing ever happens... the Samsung symbol just keeps on flashing away...mocking me
Is there any other program out there that I could try? I downloaded a program called Z3X Samsung tool. Used for flashing I believe? It installed fine but when activated, with the phone connected in download mode all I got was a prompt saying 'Cant find chip'

Hi,
I don't think there is any other tool you can use besides ODIN. The Z3X Software appears to require a flashing hardware (the box). In order to be able to flash your device using this tool, you'll need that box first. So, your best shot right now is to take the phone to a repair center. They often have device flashing hardwares (like the Z3X box) which provide convenient results but ultimately costs few bucks (compared to ODIN which is free if it works for you).
One last explanation to what your device is experiencing is that the motherboard is somewhat not working again. I really don't like this one either, but you can't ignore it. If you had bought it from a local shop or repair center, perhaps they could have assisted you in the current situation or maybe they could have even replaced it with another one.
I hope you'll find a way to revive your Note 2. There isn't much I can suggest anymore right now, as I have moved away from Samsung since 2014 (I owned the Note 2 aswell! Great device at that time).

Yeah thanks. I'll try the repair centre in the city next time I visit the big smoke. The phone certainly worked well for me but if its indeed dead, again, all is not lost because things have moved on and its bloody amazing what phones one can get now for half what I paid when I bought the Note 2.
If I get it fixed I'll certainly post up a reply with details just to help add to the info on this thread that might help other Note 2/Samsung owners in a similar way.

Exactly!
That's the whole spirit of XDA.
Thank you for understanding and good luck. :fingers-crossed:
Ok people of XDA. Here's and update. So I had no luck getting my Note 2 working again. I then bought a brand new Note 4 to see me through and that turned out to be a load of grief too....(Note 4 not liking the Marshmallow update and constantly freezing or rebooting, often every few minutes) oh my. When will the hurting stop?.... but that's another story kids
Anyway- while the Note 4 was out of action I decided I'd better sort the Note 2 out. I ordered another mother board from Aliexpress but before ordering I went through the available board listings, sent the same question off to each seller asking about any potential issues similar to what I have experienced with my current board and waited for replies. The seller that answered with the best reply that gave me some confidence got the sale. Another $35 NZD and this time it actually arrived after about 8 days from ordering.
I fitted the new board and as soon as the phone turned on, changed the language to English and promptly turned auto updates off- just in case.
Its been running perfectly ever since with no problems at all. After the fiasco I have now been having with my Note 4 (which has now been replaced thank fark) using the old Note 2 feels somewhat like jumping from a modern car with all the bells and whistles but too much to go wrong, into a nice old classic that is simplicity itself.
So now I'm off to look for answers on why the hell my Note 4 constantly wants me to download another update just after I have installed the last one.............

Lg aristo bricked?;I really have no clue.

Hey everyone I found a box full of old phones the other day while cleaning out my garage. I came across an old lg aristo ms210 metro pcs phone. I have no clue what I was trying to do to it back then apparently I have up. A few years later I am a lot more confident in my developer skills I figure this will be a piece of cake.wrong mega wrong. I've flashed stock rom twice using uppercut and lg up. A basic go factory reset freezes as hit yes and ultimately all roads lead to this wonderful splash screen. (attached) any advice and or help would be awesome. I'd like to root this phone just have something to fiddle with that won't cost me a bunch of money if I ruin it lol. Thanks guys
Oh and ps I have no clue if I'm in debugging mode or not I'd have to say probably not cuz and doesn't read it but fastboot does. Like I said it's a mystery.
