Anyone know how can I run windows phone 7 instead of android on my SGS2
As someone who has used WM7 believe me when I say you aren't missing much. Seriously, why would you want to take the best handset on the market at the moment and cripple it with a limited and highly restrictive operating system?

Close your eyes and pretend your running WP7?
Unless you have extensive coding knowledge, its never gonna happen.
Edit : although there is the metro ui launcher and wp7 music app so
You could kinda emulate the experience.
Hey guys
After experiencing Android Gingerbread on Xperia Arc S and Windows Phone 7.5 on HTC Radar,I've decided to sell my iPhone and go with another OS.
I'm pretty much torn between Galaxy Nexus and HTC Titan. After watching/reading reviews,I still can't decide.
Of course Nexus has a better screen, more customizable OS but on the other hand,Titan has a better camera and I kinda adore the WP7 UI.It's butter smooth
The prices of both phones are roughly the same in where I live.
Thoughts ?
Go for it, I have no regrets.
You mean Titan right ?
My wife's had a Windows Phone (Samsung Focus) since the release and absolutely loves it. I have an 3GS and recently switched over to an Android phone (Atrix 2 running 2.3.5), but I ended up returning the phone and going back to using my old iphone. Android has a ton of cool capabilities, but it's like running linux, the possibilities are endless, but you spend a lot more time tinkering than doing. There's also no cohesive hub for connecting up to your PC and syncing music/videos/pictures, you have a run a number of extra utilities.
The pitfall of Windows Phone is that not enough people use it, so isn't the developer support, so there aren't as many big apps, so not as many people use it.
My big sticking point is that the makers of my motorcycle helmet cam don't have any immediate plans to develop a WP7 version of their remote viewfinder app. Best thing to do is install the Zune software on your PC and browse the marketplace; if the apps are there to let you do what you need to, WP7 (7.5) is pretty badass in integrating between your PC and your Xbox and it feels a lot more polished than the Android or Iphone interfaces.

Thanks
Yep the only thing I worry about WP7 is the apps but I searched the market place and I found my essential apps such as Twitter and some games.
twitter and facebook also is built in to the messaging hub, not to say that the app doesn't have extra functions.
After owning Android and WM7 phones I would go with WM7 if I were to stray from my iPhone. I just ordered a Titan with Mango. Giving it another go! I have yet to read a bad review on the Titan or Mango.
I know everybody talks about the customization of Android but honestly, that gets old after awhile. At the end of the day I just want a reliable working device.

I have 1 of each (Nexus & Titan), and if you made me have to decide I would have to go with Nexus/Android.
I have an iPhone 4s as well, it's back in it's box.
Hi to all,
Sorry about the question. Just want some opinion and i dont mean to promote/demote android or wp7.
I have desire HD, but mine having problem with random reboot, poor battery life(after overnight charge can last 7am-2pm)...thinking on getting a phone with better batt life with heavy use on whatsapps and browsing. No gaming or other funny2 apps on android
I should have buy another better android phone but now i already having other android devices (samsung plus 7.0 and Noontec android HD player). Now thinking on getting Lumia 800,do it have a good batt life?
Some say yes, some say no. I found mine decent enough, and I used it pretty heavily.
I did this switch about a week ago, having had a negative experience introducing my Desire HD to a marble floor at high velocity...
Basically I love the phone - the facebook/twitter integration is fantastic.
Probably worth saying though that the battery life isn't fantastic. Just about on a par with my Desire HD, though I do find the indicator to be somewhat overly cautious - 50% charge remaining looks more like 30 on the little display (reached this at 4pm today) ...
I use social sites, push gmail, spotify streaming (1hr), 10 SMS and approx 1 hr calls plus other minor stuff and generally get about 16 hours before charging. I suspect if you use it more you will get less. not a problem for me as it sits on the charger at work, but may be more relevant if you can't do that ...
The only thing I miss from my Desire HD is the Internet Sharing functionality, which is there in WP7.5, just waiting on Nokia to update it ...
The size and display are beautiful - I carry an iPad 2 for things that benefit from a larger screen, but am currently finding myself using the phone more for emails etc.
I heard a lot of negativity around the door covering the USB port, but I quite like it ....
You might want to see what happens with the Lumia 900 as well - that may have a bigger battery and better battery life (or it may not).

As a Lumia 800 user, I find the switch to be very painful and counter-productive. Here are some of the issues that I have encountered:
Extremely poor battery life. I cannot stress this enough. On normal usage (non-smartphone activities), it is fine. But try using Nokia Maps for 15 minutes or so and you will see the battery drain very, very quickly. And Nokia Maps is not even close to what Google Maps can do in terms of features.
No multi-tasking. Imagine this: you are in the middle of an action game when you accidentally press the Search button. Boom! The search interface pops up. Your game? Gone.
STILL NO USB OR WIFI TETHERING/HOTSPOT!!! Aarrrggghhh!!! It's 2012, not 2002.
Over-zealous OS lockdown. No third party dialer (those on the market aren't real dialer replacements). No folders for apps. No USB mass storage (fortunately, you can enable this through a simple registry tweak).
Very expensive games (compared to iOS or Android) with generally lower quality graphics.
Having said all this, your requirements may be very different from mine. It does have a nice & responsive UI, very good social network integration, nice MS Office hub and a nice email application. Some people swear by Lumia 800.

That's a load of rubbish. Long-press the back button and the task manager appears.
I've just migrated from Android to WP7 on the Lumia and am much happier. Now I'm not messing about flashing ICS roms every week I trust my phone with my data.

You will definitely like the Lumia 800 if you're coming from a Desire HD (I owned and hated that phone XD) the newer models of the Lumia 800 hasn't had any problems with battery life. For whatsapp and browsing, it's fine. Gaming drains as usual. See if there's anyway to lend one. To see how battery works out for you.
Nice point of view, yes, I don't do game on small device, even on tab I found it hard. But no tethering? How about near future, since my laptop will share internet from phone. I just want a simple phone with social n web browse. Thanks all

Not all games/apps can handle that gracefully. Fusion:Sentient would simply restart the game while Wordament would reset the score (when "switched out" at certain point).
Hi,
got my Luma on Saterday and i love it, i have came from an Desire, the differance is amazing, smooth and fast, will not be hicking this, hope there will be more apps comming out, had to wait a while before the android mrket got some decent apps.

the lumia is so seamless..so flawless..i had actually converted from the desire s to an lg optimu 7 but immediately realised i needed the lumia..got one from ebay and it really is amazing..try it..just try it..

Ahhh...ok, I have another solution, when you purchase your phone, download the app Skydrive, it's Microsoft's cloud connected to your Hotmail account, so you can upload your photos there and access them through your email account, that way you don't have to install anything and it's easier for you to upload pictures to that and load them on to your phone when you get home to your PC vice-versa.
Bought a lumia Hope its fullfil my needs...but look like it will...need to test batt life

Hi everybody,
I kind of in the same situation. I am currently an Android user, and I really like it, but two things bother me:
- OS Fragmentation, I hate having to install custom roms every time because the official update never comes, and manufacturers usually leave 6 months old devices forgotten.
- Another thing, I've noticed that WP usually have "less powerful" hardware than Android, there is no big race for dual or quad cores... That tells me that the OS doesn't need that much power to run smoothly.
Said that, i have a few questions. What is the expected longevity for this phone? Is it expected to receive the next OS update? and finally, what are the main drawbacks you find for the OS and are they expected to be solved in future updates?
Thanks in advance and cheers

Microsoft and Nokia have been doing quite well as far as OS and firmware updates are concerned. Sure there are lots of country variants for the firmware and they may not be released at the same time, but the wait is nowhere near as long as what Android users typically have to endure.
Also, OS updates seem to be quite independent of firmware updates (correct me if I'm wrong). At least this is the case for Lumia 800. So that makes it a lot easier for Microsoft to push new OS updates to WP users directly.
As for the hardware, you are correct. WP (up until now) does not really require multi-core CPU in order to run smoothly. Lumia 800 is packed with a single-core 1.4GHz processor, so it is quite a powerful phone. My only gripe is the under-powered GPU for gaming. 3D games look less appealing compared to their Android or iOS counterparts.
As for the drawbacks, I have already listed quite a few in the previous page.
For me I think I was happier with android, but the installation of new roms was a great pleasure for me, not a drawback.
The OS runs smooth as anything on its 1.4ghz core and I never use my phone for 3d gaming so I really have no need for a faster proc.
The biggest drawback for me are the following.
-Some of the 'simplification' of the OS is mid-boggling. If you turn down the volume because its late at night, or your music is too loud expect EVERYTHING on your phone to have a lower volume, the ringtone, the alarm, the games, the notifications etc. I have been late for work 3 times now because I had dropped the volume of my alert tones late at night and I subsequently had no alarm.
-The apps are lacking but expanding all the time, sometimes I get a bit frustrated by the 'no results' when searching for a slightly more obscure app feature. Android just has everything.
-The navigation is a long way off being as good as google navigation but is decent all the same, but NO WAY POINTS (stupidity!). That being said I still think google navigation is still a way off the market leaders like tomtom.
Basically for a day to day phone and for its core features, it is excellent. But dont expect to be able to customise anything other than your home tiles (sometimes). If an OS 'feature' could be considered to confuse a simpleton then you can bet your arse it wont be there.

When I played NFS Underground an accidently pressed the Search button, when going back to the game it didn't continue. It started all over. So no not a load of rubbish. Only native apps has continue on "multi-task"
It's not only native apps, third party ones can do it, as long as they're coded for it.
Can I installed Anroid on Nokia Lumia 800???? as windows 7 donot have nothing good in it....and the only connectivity tool is Zune :S which is useless
I cannot copy my messages from my lumia 800 to my pc, i cannot installed anything in it through my pc... guys please help!!!!!!!!
Zune is useless? Works for me.
Sure your not just trolling? hmm?
Maybe next time you should inform yourself before buying a smartphone.
And no there is no Android for the Lumia 800, and even if there were it would
be slow as hell Android is to power hungry for the Lumia 800.
If you really want a Android phone sell your Lumia 800 and buy an Android phone
there are enough options.
You could have used the search. Or your scrollwheel. It's currently not possible to install Android on the Lumias. But since we recently discovered that some Lumia 800s have been shipped with unlocked Bootloaders it might be possible to port Android to our devices. But I don't think this will happen in the next few weeks...

why would u put android on a lumia thats stupid !
if u want android buy a android phone the w7 operating system is so sexy why any 1 want to is stupid.
Go away, troll.
I don´t think he is a troll
because he is not alone. There are a lot of people who ask the same thing.
And android would not be slow on the lumia because it worked good on the HD2 and the lumia 800 has a bether hardware.
Android is not bad for people who like to tinker.
WP7 ist good for guys who just want to phone but if I buy a Smartphone i want to use its full potential.
The only reason for me to buy the Lumia 800 is its Design!
(reason enough to buy it )
And please don´t tell anyone WP7 has no disadvantages.
Maybe WP8 will make me happy but its not even shure if we will get it!
And think about that, this is the Lumia 800 thread and not the WP thread, so don´t call anyone troll without reason!!!
I am very optimistic to see android on my lumia next year.
I share his view.
I used an android phone but it died and tried window phone.
The stuff I like:
Messaging is very fast and smooth with no delay.
Battery life is really long and can last up to about 2 days on standby.
The stuff I miss that android have are:
No swype
Cannot stream movie online with the whole adobe flash
Can only open jpeg picture. Cannot even open png, gif, etc which is a disappointment.
Video file need to be the right format to play.
Cannot access LAN share folder of PC in the house.
Web browser crashing when viewing animated gif file or even long image strip.
Direct connection to PC and copy and paste with mem. card.
Music player, you can tap where you want it to play while WM have to hold down the forward button.
Not in a situation where I can freely change phone either. Oh well :|
It's like trying to put IOS on android, makes no sense, the next time you want android, buy a cell phone with native android.

it's not even remotely the same thing, android is actually portable to lumia, because all the source code is available, also the n9 allready runs android and it shares same display panel as lumia, and some of the samsung android phones have same cpu, so lot of work is allready done.
It's just matter that someone starts to port android to lumia, i would love that because android is way much better os than wp7, the reason i got lumia is just like someone said the really nice design.

Re-read the original post. Plenty of reason to call troll.
Although much of the with has been "done" for the phone, the main problem that remains is the bootloader. Without access to it, the bootloader will prevent any modification to the phone. I would personally like to see Android as well because I have a 710 to try out wp7. I am not finding wp7 sufficient for my needs which is sad since I only use my phone for email and productivity.

I hope no one is ever able to run Android on these devices. Tired of people asking.
Anyone who says "Android is better than WP7" has no idea what they are talking about.
WP7 might be more limited in what it can do but the user experience is a million times better and it performs much better.
With Android you end up buying a phone based on specs. With WP7 and iOS you buy the phone for what it will actually do for you, specs are fairly irrelevant.

usually before you buy a phone, a car, a tv, etc you inform yourself about it
there were numerous reports about Windows Phones disadvantages, i can`t understand how you missed them
i dont have anyting of value to add, but i LOVE the Lumia designs but also love my android. wp7 is slick and good but a bit limited it seems, to me at least.
I dont fully understand the tech side tho i have flashed a few roms, but if a dead(bricked) phone can be rejuvenated with android how can it not be ported or flashed on to the lumia.
I know its the bootloader, but i am curious as to how with all the geniuses on here and many other forums and sites how this is not bypassable?
I respectfully request a small explanation.
Just Buy Nokia N9 with MeeGo. This same design as Lumia 800, and Linux on the board.
Mayby instaling Android could be possible, but it does not have any sense.
I have android 4.1 installed on my Nokia N9.
But there's not really any sense, it just looks very nice when you have dual boot on a mobile phone
i have read you can flash and dual boot android on the n9 but its not like you can just go buy one. i have never seen one around here or on sale at all. I dont think they were ever offered in canada and i have seen that they cost 600 dollars or more to buy outright without a contract.
i guess i am outta luck.
I doubt anyone would remember an app called "symot draw SMS.". It worked on the symbian os v2 (s60v2) and I installed it in my n72 which I still use today! I never found anything similar in any later phone OS.
the app made it possible to draw black and white low Res pics to be sent as SMS. nowadays it makes less sense but still many people where I live don't use internet in their phones. for them an app like that would be very appreciated.
so can anyone make such an app? or point me to one?
there would be a substantial market for such an unexplored territory I guess if its possible.
any comments?
P.S. the stock android keyboard is awful. swift key trial was so good!
