[Q] Phone powers off after a few minutes of tethering - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On latest archidroid. I'm heavy travelling right now and really require hotspot.
After about ten minutes of WiFi hotspot my phone won't turn on. Tether stops working. Whether os is just frozen I can't tell. No backlight. But I do need to hold power for a long time to get it going. Feels like I have to do it twice, not sure.
Any ideas? Would really appreciate a solution.

What happened with my screen?

I was using tweetdeck like any other moment I would & left my phone on a table. When I took it again in a couple of a minutes the screen wouldn't turn on. I can go through menus I think, take pictures & such. It doesn't even light up when someone's calling me. I tried to update/repair it but I can't select connect on a screen when I want to connect it with a PC. I can charge it, it responds to a PC, but the screen seems dead.
I updated it yesterday to a new version of 1.6 because I'm still waiting on 2.1 so that build of software could be bad because this has never happened to me before.
From what I see, all I can do is to wait for the battery to drain out.
Does somebody know what the hell happened?
Have you tried rebooting your device (use menu bytton and power button together for 5-10 seconds)?
Yep, that did it. I didn't have time to reply lately. Sometimes it also took 7-10 seconds to get out of standby. I updated to 2.1 so I hope that won't happen again, everything is much faster.

[Q] Screen Timeout Issue on Flyhoney 1.0

I have a BB WiFi Flyer, and just the other day I installed the latest Flyhoney ROM using the new easy HC install method. This was a first time effort and as far as I can tell, most everything is working well, except that the screen never turns off no matter what setting I have for Screen Timeout.
Coming from virgin GB, I wiped cache and data before flashing Flyhoney, as seems to be recommended.
I am not certain, but I believe that this screen timeout issue is new since flashing the Patches to remove the SIM Card Missing message and the Battery % patch. I did both at the same time, so not entirely sure if it is a ROM issue, a Patch issue or is there possibly an app that I have that is preventing the screen from turning off. I don't have any apps installed that weren't previously installed on GB, so I am assuming this is a ROM issue.
Has anyone one else experienced this issue since moving to HC and specifically the FlyHoney ROM?
Is your charging cable plugged in?
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using Tapatalk
Nope. Doesn't seem to matter if the charging cable is plugged in or not. The screen doesn't turn off on battery or on power.
What's worse, a calendar event will trigger the screen to wake, then it never goes back out without manual intervention, effectively killing the battery double time.
same here
looks like no way to fix it
Well, this is really strange. Suddenly the problem seems to have gone away for now.
The only thing I have done differently today than any other day since I installed FlyHoney was to put the tablet into Airplane mode for most of the day today.
I usually work from home, but today I went into my company's office, and since there is no WiFi there, I decided to put the tablet into Airplane mode as a convenient way of killing all radios and syncing attempts. Figured I'd preserve battery better.
Well, I just got home, turned Airplane mode off, now the damn thing is turning the screen off as it should have been according the the screen timeout setting all along. I've tried a couple different settings (30s and 2 min), and both work perfectly.
I just took it off the charger this morning. Didn't turn it off or reboot it or anything like that. Just Airplane mode.

WiFi will not stay on

Atrix 4G 4.5.91 rooted
Nothing else done to it.
I have been using my WiFi, along with the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi app for a couple weeks with no problem at all. I have not installed anything new or changed anything at all.
For some reason today, my WiFi will not stay on. I turn it on, it brings up the "Wifi networks found" and then Wifi just shuts off. I can no longer connect to WiFi because the service itself just shuts off.
And when I try using the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi it won't connect at all. Just hangs for a while and then says it cannot connect (because WiFi shuts off.)
Please help! I am now the victim of the AT&T "unlimited" data plan BS where they slow me down if I use too much data, so I have to use WiFi.
About the only thing I can think of that has happened in the last day different than normal is that I had the juice run out of a battery. But WiFi worked fine after putting in a new battery. I have no idea why it just all of the sudden will not stay on.

[Q] My Screen Is Stuck On Black! :(

Hey Team!
I've been rooting and tinkering with android phones since the HTC Dream days. Normally, most troubleshoots I can overcome on my own fairly routinely over the years. I kind of feel like I've met my match on this one and I could REALLY use you guys' help!
Here's the story:
So my phone, of course, is the T-Mobile HTC One. What I've done so far? Unlocked the Bootloader. Added a CWM custom recovery. Currently using a 1.29....16 OTA clone deodexed Rom created by Team Nocturnal. I'm using a Faux123 Kernel and have it overclocked to 1.9 GHz with all of his suggested UV settings and Intellidemand Governor chosen. I have the Xposed Framwork installed as well. I've had all of this running smoothly together for weeks with not one random reboot or lockup. The phone has literally been flawless. Until this.....
So, i'm listening to music with headphones plugged in for my Spotify app and relaxing. About 10 minutes into the music session, the music stops. I look down and the app seems frozen. I pick up the phone and turn the screen on. As I swipe the screen to unlock, the phone freezes. I turn the screen off by pressing the power button. From this point on, the screen will not turn back on at all!!
What I've tried:
1) The usual hard reset via power button and volume down. Even power button by itself. The capacitive buttons just keep blinking, but the device never reboots at all.
2) I've tried plugging the device to a computer. The usb connection responds because the computer makes a sound. When I look at the device manager, it does show that it detects the M7 device to be connected. However, when trying to use any ADB commands, it simply states the device is not found (running Windows 8, btw).
3) Freaked out for about 10 minutes before regaining my composure and thinking of one last thing. Only thing I can think left to do is pull the battery. Of course this isn't possible with the HTC One, so my only comparative option would be to let the battery drain completely. The irony is that I boast so much about my phone's battery life, so I know that I'll be waiting 2-3 days for this to happen before I can hope for resolution after.
I've tried to be as specific as possible here guys. I'm far from an expert, but I've owned 4 or 5 android phones since 2008 and have never bricked one. If anyone knows anyway to bring my phone back from this RANDOM sleep of death, please let me know so.
Forever Grateful!
put it under a bright light while holding power or power+volume down
When home and back button blink, do they keep blinking and did you try holding the power button. This happen to me the home and back button kept blinking and the display stayed black, so I kept holding the power button, and the screen turned on... so, not sure if you already tried this anyway, good luck
Thanks for your help everyone! The bright light technique worked!!!
I had the same problem and letting mine completey die worked tried the brightlight and didn't work checked two days later it died put on charger and bam right on

i am having the same problem, its a pain in the ass to get a light on the sensors, could it be that its happening because i also use a charger for a different android phone? had a old lg mytouch 4g charger. maybe i should let the battery drain completely. i want a real solution instead of having the phone screen shut off and stay off on me.

I've not had any issues at all. I did notice that it takes longer to actually connect online, from when I press the wifi turn on button (for me, via power toggle) and actually connect with the router. For example it's 9 seconds to connect on xperia and 7 seconds (just timed it, and 2 seconds is not that much, seemed longer) on my nexus 7
