Dear all beloved s3 users out there,
I have a problem with my s3's power button.
Only touch it, and my phone will show shut down and reboot menu.
And if the phone is in my pocket, the phone reboot itself.
Does anyone know some tricks? Can we disable power button?

No, your power button is faulty. Simply replace it.

I was wondering if there was a trick to power the S3 on without using the power button. It feels a little fragile and I want to be able to take precautions in case anything happens in the future.
On my old N1 I could plug in the charger, take the battery out, put it back in, and the phone would boot. However, this doesn't seem to work on the S3. Does anyone know if any method, app or mod which could enable this?
For a second there dude try and enjoy ur device..Don't bother about the button,u can press the home button though, will do the job:-/

Won't turn on the device when it's powered down (as far as I'm aware)
Only way I can think of at the moment would involve a jig and PC.
Force download mode with the jig then flash anything (preferably same modem) in Odin. Set Odin to auto reboot phone and done.
Would only use this method if the power button failed / broke.

To boot the Galaxy S3 without a power button you plug the phone in to a power source via usb or into the laptop.
Pull the battery. Hold down VOLUME DOWN and home key while putting in the battery. This will load Download mode then you can use volume down to reboot.
Figured this out yesterday...works every time.

THANK YOU!!!
I was found Rom support it it name LukeROM_4.4.4_AROMA_V5
My Power button quit working yesterday. I am trying to remap my volume button to wake the screen, and be the new power button. I can't seem to get it to work. I am rooted and I am using root explorer to edit the text.
I have found a number of apps that will wake my screen and some of them work okay, but I have to have lock screen enabled because of my corporate email, and once the screen locks, the apps don't work.
Also, I am worried that if my phone ever get's powered down (runs out of battery), I don't know how I would turn it back on.
Any advice???

I need a physical button. I'm rooted on Gingerbread and I want to update to ics but I can't figure out how to fastboot without a physical power button
There's a few apps in the store like 'quickboot' that'll allow you to boot into fastboot if rooted. Just remember for menus like recovery, you're likely to be stuck once you need to use the power button to select an option

Send it to service to get it repaired. It's pretty cheap for repairing a single button.
my htc amaze has a broken power button and would flash on and off unless i take out the battery. the power button is gone, but the power sensor is still there. the phone will stay on if i push on the power sensor correctly.
you guys have any advice on fixing this and how much would it cost to repair?
thanks a bunch
have you checked on ebay for any repair parts?
Should be warranty.
yeah i checked around ebay and google for a power ribbon flex, but no luck finding one.
i found this searching around, but does it work for htc amaze? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524858)

I used Button Remapper to map the power on/off to the camera button. Never used the camera button anyway.
You can remap the power button to nothing.

Does it work to turn the phone on when its off? I only ask because I would like to set it up like you did with camcorder button.

It won't be able to, since the power button is assigned to turn on the device. There's one way I know of that you can use to turn the phone on when it's off. It requires a computer though.
You will need 4ext recovery installed. After that, have the phone connected to a computer and then (assuming you have adb drivers set up) type in the following command:
adb reboot
That should boot up the phone.

Sorry for the delay in answer. You can map the power button to whatever button you like. It does turn the phone off and on. I will act exactly as the power button does.

That's incorrect. Once the cam button is mapped as a power button, it will behave exactly as the power button.

No it doesn't behave like a power button. Sure it can wake the device and put it to sleep, but it CAN NOT power up the device once it's off. The power button sends a different kind of signal when the phone is off, and cannot be remapped with software means. It's a hardware button that tells the phone to turn on.
Before you go and tell me that it's not true, I even tested it out myself just to be sure and yep, it doesn't power on the device once it's off.

I stand corrected. I thought he was talking about stand-by off. I also tested if the button works to power on the device and you are correct, it doesn't work.
To the OP. My power button does work if I remove the battery case and press the spot where the battery case button would make contact with the phone. It would seem to be a problem with the button making contact with the phone.

that's a very remote possibility i don't think the power button would get damaged that easily. if it really bothers you, you could use a hard case for your phone to protect it from damages. However if that doesn't convince you, then, i'll let you know how to unlock without the power button.
Notice that your phone has sensors on the front? You can use that to unlock the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389752
But I still don't know how will you turn on the phone in the first place if your power button is destroyed If I were you and my power button is damaged, I would buy a new mobile
Keep alarm so it will ask whether to switch on handset or not. I used this method on my nokia 5800 when its power on switch was damaged. This method can be followed on Micromax a116 also.

Hi. I'm having a trouble with my LG G2 mini. When I get the phone in my pocket, unintentionally, I hold the power off button and even when the phone is blocked, if you hold the power off button, it restart. Sometimes I'm walking on the street and I hear the booting sound from my pocket and I'm like... WTF?
Someone know how to deactivate this function? is a pain in the ass.
Thanks and sorry for my REALLY bad english
I've never noticed such thing as restarting, but I have similiar problem with Volume+ and Volume- - there's camera and quick note shortcuts by default and I can't get rid of them...
root -> exposed -> G2 tweaks box
There you can set the behaviour of the volume buttons.
Don't know if you can set power button, but I never had problems with it.
Yeah cool, but You have to pay to unlock those features.

So what?
You can buy a phone for a lot of money and tell us you can not afford a software for a few bucks?
Shame on you.
The developer spend a lot of time for it.
I simply prefer to spend my money on something, that I need more than that.
I buyed and works great with vol+ and vol- but not with power button. A shame, but hey, I have a great app to modify my phone [emoji2]

AFAIK long pressing of power button is not handled by the OS.
It works even when the device freezes or you tried to boot with a non working kernel.
Some kind of emergency restart that nags you.
I was very happy that it works this way while testing custom recoveries.
Ok now i'm having a new problem. If you deactivate de vol+/vol- function in the bloq screen if you press vol+ amd vol- at the same time for a few secods, the phone just can't start until you press the power button for a few seconds to restart it. I guess I will have to buy a case for my phone
