Here Nokia Maps can't install extSD card - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

This is driving me nuts. I'm dealing with the original unrooted SGH I545 build VRUFNK1 from Verizon but for some
weird reason I can't load maps on ext microSD card. First, phone tells me I only have 3.8g memory left so going to download I'm presented with choice to:
- device
- SD card
- running
- all
Apparently this is not where I need to be but I can't change it even when I change the defaults. I installed ES explorer through which I created separate folder but it's nowhere tb seen when I use dialog provided by Nokia Maps (great app because you can use maps offline - no data charges).
EDIT:
Ignore. Found appropriate dialog within Here Nokia. Please delete this post #embarrasing

Basic Setup with Stock and Market for GTAB

I did this basic setup for my woot acquired GTAB. The primary reason was to keep the stock ROM but get the fully functional Android Market. I wanted to give these instructions out to real newbies who may want to do the bare minimum to keep their TAB up and running with all apps and without doing a flash with custom ROM. I wanted to include a more step by step for people who are less tech savvy so please bear with the details if you are a tech guy.
1. Get the Over The Air update to update to 3588. The OTA push happens automatically if you have connectivity (wifi is setup). You can also check it via the updates app that should have come with the stock ROM.
2. Download the enhancement pack - TnT Enhancement Pack v3.1.4b file from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=74HGJNEL to your desktop or laptop. The file name should be TnT_Enhancement_3389_v3_1_4b.rar
3. Try opening the file using winzip or any zip program. If it doesn't install winrar version available at http://www.win-rar.com/download.html.
4. Extract contents to a local folder on your computer using the zip/ winrar program. It has files update.zip, a recover folder that contains a command file
5. Connect your TAB to the computer with the min-usb cable and activate the usb transfer (I think it comes up with that option)
6. GTAB should show up as another drive in your system. With windows explorer browse this drive to locate the "sdcard" folder.
7. Copy the update.zip and recover (containing command file) folder from the location you extracted on your computer (step 4) into the sdcard folder identified on step 6.
8. Power off
9. Power on by pressing and holding the volume + button and the power button simultaneously.
10. The TAB should show a open box screen in a few seconds and after some time should turn back on to the main screen with new apps installed. You should see the market apps icon as well
11. Do the market fix remedy to see all applications in the market by steps below. I added an alternate market fix (if you don't see all apps)
a) Run market
b) Open settings->applications->system applications
c) Force close Google Services Framework, then Force Close Market
d Go back to Google Services Framework, then clear data
e) Run market and confirm you get an error
f) Reboot
g) Wait 2 minutes and try Market to get all applications
h) If this doesn't work, look at the directions again and make sure you follow them exactly
Alternate market fix Steps - I haven't tested this but looks like a few extra steps (You need Titanium Backup installed and have opened Market and surfed around a bit. Thanks to blackjaguar who pointed to this)
1. Settings->Applications->System applications->Market then Clear Cache (if any) then Force Stop
2. Go back one and then Google Services Framework then clear data then Force Stop
3. Go to home and open Titanium Backup
4. Select Backup/Restore tab
5. Select Google Services Framework
6. Select Wipe Data
7. Go to home and open market (it will error and close)
8. Reboot your tablet
9. Open Market and you will have full market
The above steps are detailed in another thread

Almost
I just got my gtab from woot and basically wanted the same thing you did: the stock gtab plus the market. I followed your directions after spending the last week reading the massive amounts of posts on this forum. The only thing I did differently was installing CWM between steps 1 and 2, and repartitioning to the recommended 2048/0. It seemed like most people end up having to do that at some point. Your market fix however, didn't work at all for me. There's another fix posted by tsm26 that worked great for me. Its slightly different:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12563333&postcount=4400
The only app I still can't find in the market is Firefox, but luckily its available from ftp.mozilla.org.
EDIT: Just got the acore process problem, and had no contacts or /data/data folder at all. Used this fix and the problem is gone. Looks like it works for TnT Enhanced as well:

I am going to update this with alternate market fix for anyone who is interested. Thanks.
Step 6 confused?
Just received my gtab and following your steps to install this upgrade, however after connecting gtab to laptop I see 4 folders at the root of "E:" when browsing through windows. I assume that "E:" is the sdcard directory and these folders are located in it. The folders I can see in this directory under the windows "E:" drive are - .android_secure, Android, DCIM & LOST.DIR. However if I browse to the "sdcard" folder using the file explorer on my gtab I don't see the .android_secure folder, but do see a folder called "update.zip", that I don't see when browsing the "E:" drive in windows. Now I am really confused? Do I delete or rename the "update.zip" directory currently residing in the "sdcard" directory on the gtab and then copy over the recover and update.zip folders that I just downloaded?
My tap ui version is 1.1-3389.
Are there any suggestions?
I think you need to disable the USB sharing and you will see the files.
This worked like a charm. I decided not to root and mod, at least for now, so getting the market is great. I didn't show the sdcard directory, but I had update and an empty recovery directory, so I just replaced them (after copying the old update.zip). It wiped out the photos and videos apps on my main screen, but I found some interesting replacements. And the market fix worked great too.
But I still can't find Words With Friends... Just checked the market from my laptop and it thinks it's not compatible with my device. Oh well.
I followed the instructions to the T and the market wont work... someone please help!!!!!
The first set of instructions did not work for me, but the alternate set did work. I now appear to have a full market. Awesome!
Just for the record, I am running the stock ROM updated to the latest VS release.
EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon. No apps will download from the Market. When I try to download a free app, I get a "Starting download..." message but that's it. I'm also doing this at work... I think port 5228 might be blocked. Is this the reason? I will attempt from home tonight...
Help!

I've gotten to this point, but how long is some time, it has never turned back on to the main screen and now really won't boot at all, just goes to a blank screen and sit there.
Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated! Hope I haven't done something terribly wrong!
Spoke too soon?
Maybe I spoke too soon. Doing the market fix got me a lot more on the market, but there's still a lot of apps that I can't get. So many devs put their apps in market and nowhere else. Don't they realize that this is not itunes? (BTW, I've hit web sites that send me to itunes to download their apps...) How many other devices has google not approved for the market and are stuck like this? Even Firefox is undownloadable on my Android. Is that really the market fix or should I be able to access more?
So frustrating, but finally something seems to work
OK, new theory. Apparently I had to do the market fix twice. I also followed the video on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9817939&postcount=17
That's not the gtab, so it looks a little different in the menus, but the steps still worked. I guess it threw in an extra step of clearing cache on market and force stopping it before stopping google services framework. Well, Firefox doesn't show up in market, but so far everything else does. Now I have to try to remember everything I've been trying to download.
I had to do the Market fix twice, but that was no sweat.
Perfect, gunajay; thank you very much for your concise directions.

Everything is working great using this Enhancement Pack and Market Fix. My question is whether my gTab is still considered stock with these changes? The forum messages about the new firmware update all caution against applying it if you are running an alternate firmware from 3588. I don't know if I am under the Enhancement Pack and Market Fix scenario or not.
no sdcard - help please
Hello all, found this post and as a complete newbie I was excited to see what the GTAB could be transformed into. Not quite ready for custom ROMS so I figured I'd start with Clockworkmod and trying to install the standard android market.
Problem is when I hook up my gtab I don't see an "sdcard" folder... Anybody have any ideas why that would be? How do I work around it?
I have the following folders:
.android_secure
Android
clockworkmod
DCIM
download
kindle
LOST.DIR
Master
Music
Photos
recovery
Videos
update.rar
Thanks in advance for your help!
Will this work with 4349?
Does anyone know if gunajay's instructions will work with with Stock 4349 and Market?

SDCARD is the folder that is mounted on your computer when you connect via USB. The list above are the contents of your SDCARD.
Doh. ;-) That worked. Thank you very much for the explanation K J Rad!

[Q] RC1 - SDCard (lost media files) and other minor Issues

I recently flashed my Viewsonic UPC300-2-2 with VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1 using ClockWorkMod 0.8 using this process.
I have been working with the gTablet for several days and most everything is working very well. Specifically, I can;
1. Play compressed MPEG-4 (FFmpeg) movies
2. Sync ITunes (with Market app) and play files with stock player
3. Use wireless WAN, wireless LAN (access files on home PC), and wired USB connections
4. Access Market and install several games, Adobe Flash 10.2, live wallpapers, widgets and more.
5. Open and Edit (but not create) Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF type files
6. Download and read Market books
7. Very fast application launch and execution
However, I have had problems with the SDcard2 slot and a few other areas, as these observations indicate;
1. CWM skips SD backup - When running CWM backup, near the end of the backup process, I see the message 'SD-EXT not found', 'skipping backup'. I don't know if this is referring to the USB slot or to the SDcard2 slot.
2. Formatting SD corrupts system partition - when inserting my 4GB SDcard2, the system didn't initially recognize it and recommended formatting. The same card was NTFS formatted and had just been viewed on an XP machine, so I know it was working. At any rate, nothing was on the card, so I let the gTablet format it. I continued to use the gTablet, but when I ultimately rebooted, I could not boot and saw only the new animated ROM logo screen (the first thing you see on boot) flash over and over endlessly. I tried clearing cache, clearing user settings, and even reinstalling RC1. Nothing worked. However, when I repartitioned (2048,0), then the system began working again and I went back to reinstalling all my applications and re-personalizing the system.
3. SDcard2 files are being erased. I can't be certain when this occurs, but I've seen three occasions; after using CWM to backup, after rebooting in general, and after performing disk operations (create/delete folders, copy files) using a file manager. Note the files only are erased and not the containing folder - answer; I found a post to add an empty file called ".nomedia" to the root of any folder containing media. I did this by creating a new file using ES File Manager on the tablet. This worked in that I no longer lose files, but it didn't work in that Gallery and my Video players no longer can find these files. I also read that copying media files from SDcard to SDcard2 would prevent lost files. This is not the case. Copying media files from anywhere to SDcard2 will result in loss upon boot (unless .nomedia file resides on SDcard2).
4. Files readable after SD Hot remove - SDcard2 cannot be removed without unmounting (via settings, storage). This doesn't cause system failures, but what I observed is that the SDcard2 contents, after card is removed, are still accessible. I can view/play files that are no longer there. I assume there is a cache for the SDcard2 that is responsible for this behavior.
5. SD insert on Standby crashes system - SDcard2 cannot be inserted when gTablet is in Standby. If I do, then I cannot resume with one short press to the power button. The system instead performs a full reboot.
6. Screen lock turns into a reboot - Standby cannot resume after long periods, even if plugged in to AC. I've seen as little as a couple hours later, the system will not resume and must be fully rebooted.
7. Sound levels are low. When playing music or video with the stock players, I need to turn the volume to max to be heard through the built in speakers.
8. Force stop message is displayed for certain applications when the gTablet is resumed from Standby. I have seen this for Google Maps and Words with Friends only so far, if these programs are left running when the gTablet is put into Standby. Thoughts are this might be related to the wireless connection? - answer; this not related to Market problem, as I originally thought. I did several changes; I loaded VTL.Launcher 1.6.2, set wireless to never off during screen saver (advanced wireless settings), and installed the latest PERSHOOT kernel. The launcher may have solved the forced stop, but since I cannot duplicate the problem, I cannot be sure. Since it works now, I'll let that sleeping dog lie.
9. Gallery displays duplicate icons for the same file, after I copy a file over the USB link to either SDcard or SDcard2. If I try to delete an icon within Gallery, the source file is deleted, but Gallery continues to display the 2nd icon. The icon continues to display the photo miniature, and when selected, will display the photo full size. I assume this photo is cached somewhere since the source was deleted? - answer; I found a post here to clear media cache & reboot; go to Menu> Applicaions> Manage Applications> All> Media Storage> Clear Data. Reboot.
10. Clock 'option bar' is not visible. When I select the clock icon from the 'app drawer' (all application icons) view off home page, then the Clock application displays date and time and weather full page on the screen with an option bar at the bottom. However, these options aren't accessible because the home page task bar is presented on top of this, covering half of the clock option bar horizontally. It looks like the clock options are alarm, tunes, and home.
11. Button Registration - Sometimes (frequently) finger-to-screen registration isn't working and buttons do not respond - answer; I've found that gojimi has a tool that is much, much easier than calibration.ini. Find his tool here.
12. Command response sluggish - Sometimes (rarely) the gTablet seems to stall when responding to button pushes before application launches.
I've read other posts enough to suspect the SDcard2 isn't working on RC1, but was working perfectly for prior ROM versions. In my opinion, the problem seems to be cache related for this SDcard2, and something the OS does to media files only upon boot.
1. Normal behavior
2. NTFS is not supported by android
3. The only fix is .nomedia and yes it tells android not to look in those directories for media so it won't erase them. It's a bug
4. What?
5. Don't do that
6. This is a well known bug maybe solved with a custom kernel
7. Depends on the rom and the video player
8. Standby on tablet is different that a phone. Standby is a deep sleep not just screen off
9. Reboot
10. don't know
11. search "calibration.ini"
12. see answer 11
In gingerbread the internal sdcard is "emmc" and the external is "sdcard". On Froyo internal in sdcard and external is sdcard2. Some gingerbread roms have made the cards act like froyo however
Thanks, I will follow your references and report back to original post what I find out as an answer for others.
Also,
2. the NTFS was reformatted by Android to (FAT32??) whatever Android requires. The real problem I saw was that when formatting SDcard2, the reformatting process corrupted the system partition. The gTab still operated until I rebooted, then I experienced boot loops, and had to repartition.
4. Exactly! But, I'll follow your advice for #5
6. I'll search too, but if you have time, can you explain the differences in function between Kernel, ROM, OS and Hardware? I'm thinking of a system architecture diagram/flow or description.
9. Yes, if I reboot, the ghost icons are removed. However, if I again copy a photo from my XP machine over USB link to gTab, to a 'pictures' folder at the root of SDcard, then Gallery again shows two Icons groups for each picture.
2. Don't format sdcard in tablet. I just don't trust it.
6. When you install a rom you are installing the OS and the kernel. You can install custom kernels on top of that to replace the stock kernel. Try Pershoots latest and make sure you use the correct version...froyo and gingerbread.
9. I call it an Android bug. It needs a reboot to flush the cache

HOLY CRAP annoying motorola phone portal

Whenever I plug my phone in, set it to USB mass storage, it always sets back to Motorola phone portal with a little roll back icon in the menu bar.
I need the USB mass storage to grab some files off my atrix. How do I fix this?
I was having a similar problem until I uninstalled Motorola Media Link.
close everything related to your phone. I had the same problem once and it turned out I had a cmd window open with adb commands that had been previously run on it. I'd close EVERYTHING related to your phone, restart the phone then start again.
Like someone previously mentioned about Media Link, if you right click the icon in the system tray, there is a menu in the pop-up that gives you the option of selecting what the device does by default when you connect it. By default, the option is set to Phone Portal, but you have the option of setting it to that, Mass Storage or None.
I'm not 100% certain that the second option is Mass Storage, but I know that it can be changed so that your phone won't default to Phone Portal. It should just be a matter of exiting Media Link rather than uninstalling it that or merely changing your settings in it.
I think he means the glitch where no matter what you choose on the phone itself, it will always default back to the phone portal option before it mounts the SD card as a usable USB device in Windows Explorer.
I suppose that's possible, but without being more specific, the problem could be resolved by changing the MediaLink settings. Obviously, if the problem is the one you are referring to, my suggestion would be irrelevant. =p
Anyone get PAW server working in place of Moto Phone Portal? Gawd it sucks!
1. You have to use IE or FF, which is cool because I already use FF, but when I click on File Manager it warns, "File Manager access supported on Internet Explorer only." WTF over they can't make up their minds?
2. I finally get File Manger working through IE of course and then it takes me to some DavWWWRoot web folder???
3. So I copy a couple music files - then go to the phone using Astro - find the files in my /mnt/sdcard/ folder - copy the files (won't let me cut or move) - find my "Music" folder deeper on the SD card - copy the files there - go back to the /mnt/sdcard/ folder and delete the now duplicate files.
Holy smokes is this thing awful or am I just making it awful?
Please someone help me get the much better PAW working!

Checked....Working Fine with All capabilities in....
Yeaaaah this was posted a couple days ago so I wouldn't really call it "GRAB IT FAST" (nor, for that matter, is this post quite in line with the forum rules as you're kinda-sorta advertising a paid app, even though it's not yours).
If you read the dev's forum thread (it's not here, it's easy enough to find though) you'll see he got special permission from Microsoft to use a capability which is normally only available to OEMs. Sure, it's a good sign and may mean good things to come, but don't go getting all breathlessly excited about it *just* yet!
Also, "Full API Access" is a pretty bad description. It doesn't appear to use any non-standard APIs at all, in fact (I decompiled it already). The filesystem APIs are available to all developers. You just can't *DO* much with them because apps run in sandboxes with very low permissions. The dev got permission to add *one* extra capability, ID_CAP_MEDIALIB_PHOTO_FULL, which gives full access to the pictures library and the SD card. It does not give anything even vaguely close to full access to the whole phone (as a trivial example, it still doesn't give access to the Documents folder). It's also not something that just any random developer is going to be able to use.
Thanks for trying, though, I guess...

I don't think this thread should be deleted.
Anyway I just went to the Pocket File Manager facebook and this is what I found out :
"Hello developers.
I want to info you that in next version of Pocket File Manager we added support for third party application to save files into Phone storage and SD Card. It is very simple process and will cost you nothing.
How it works:
All what you need is to add special extension into your file and execute Launcher. PFM will receive file and save it to desired location , also it will remove extension so the file name remains original.
Extensions supproted:
.tosd - Save file to SD Card. For example you have file named "my new file.dat" and you want to save it to SD card. Rename the file to "my new file.dat.tosd" and use Windows.System.Launcher.LaunchFileAsync(); PFM will store the file named "my new file.dat" in SD Card. If no SD card is presents file will be stored into Phone's storage Picture folder)
.tols - Save file to PFM local storage.
.tops - Save file to Phone's storage under the Pictures folder.
If you have any questions fill free to ask!"
Maybe this can be helpfull to other developers that can't get the ID_CAP_MEDIALIB_PHOTO_FULL capability for their own app.
I think this is interesting ...
Best app
Super app!! Installed trial version on Lumia 925, all works as described. Hurry up developers!!!
This looks great! But I wish the ability to access even a small part of the SD card was open to all developers. Its been very difficult to build a productivity app when the only way to get files out of the phone is email. Looks like he got into the Nokia collection about a month before he added the capability, I assume Nokia made this happen.
That could be. Nokia has the ability to add ID_CAP_MEDIALIB_PHOTO_FULL to "their" apps if they want; they could probably arrange for this app to receive it.
I'm with you on the SD thing. The official APIs for SD access (read-only, limited to the file types you specify beforehand, can't specify reserved file types, can only see so many files) are really stupid.
The fact that 8.1 supposedly allows devs to enable installing apps to SD is encouraging. If that feature stays, there's a decent change it will mean the apps are installed to a FAT partition, which would mean they would have full access, automatically (MS can restrict access to the mount point, but then the app couldn't get at its own binaries and resources; if they allow that, they allow it all). Of course, they might split-partition the card, making part of it NTFS so that they can ACL it to hell again. Even then, though, you could remove the card and put it in a PC...
From my experience with the emulator, the SD card still appears to be a single partition, FAT32 to be exact. Installed apps are stored in a hidden folder, namely WPSystem\Apps. Unless there's some trickery here that I'm unaware of...
Heh, "hidden" folder. Yeah, that'll be effective. I bet they set the readonly flag too...

That folder was there before, but now it also contains apps and appdata as well, besides some system files from before. Some folders are marked as partially read-only.
Well if there is a difference between the winRT file access and the winPTR 8.1 file access for apps I am yet to find it (aside from not being able to get on network locations and DLNA from phone).
I say devs should be more focused on getting their apps ready for 8.1 than still trying to live up with the *redacted* limitations of WP8.0...

[Q] Problems with update to Kitkat

Hello all,
I have bought Media pad x1 501-u, unfortunately I updated it to Kitkat from there website, then my mobile turned into chinese and no google firmwork so I cant even sync my gmail contacts using gmail, I cant update my programs using playstore. and what is worse is that there is no arabic!! its my native language and I need help! PS: my mobile is not rooted.
what is the best solution??
501U is natively a chinese device = was never meant to be sold outside China.
Standard procedure with Huawei:
Download the ROM (Either from Huawei or EMUI), unzip and copy the dload folder onto the root directory of an SD Card of at least 2GB formatted in FAT32.
Power off the X1, insert card, power on also holding volume up (if not successful hold volume up&down). You know you did it right when mister droid shows up.
Screen may blank for long periods!!
When it reboots after showing update success, remove the SD card, or it will do it again.
To get google back you will have to download several apps from the Huawei store which is available on tge homescreen. Please refer to the thread "not synching Google contacts".

Hi,
Apart from the update.app file, you also have to download the attached file (only 9xx bytes) in the below post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56436713&postcount=6
extract it to your root microsd card, then put the "update.app" file in the dload folder; reboot your x1 or make local update (have to manually choose the file from external sd card). After successfully upgrading, don't forget to remove your microsd card and plug to your PC to delete the update files.
Once you successfully upgrade it to this kitkat, you will not have any goggle app/framework. You have to go to Huawei App Center. search for and download Google Play and Google Play service. Then, in the same Huawei App Center, search by typing "google", you will see a large google banner on the top of the search result, tap it and you'll see a lot of google stuff. At least you have to download google sync (look at calendar icon) and another google sync (look at contact icon). Once downloaded, you will be able to sync your google contact and calendar back. You can then download other google apps from Google Playstore.
