[Q] Problem restoring LG LS840 w/ 4.0.4 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an LG Viper LS840 that is running Android 4.0.4 ICS. This was my first time rooting an Android device. I read a bunch of tutorials and managed to root it. I then downloaded ROM Manager to it and loaded ClockworkMod to it. My phone is an LS840. I told ROM Manager that it was a MS840. I thought they were similar enough that it would not hurt anything. When I attempted to back up my current ROM. It booted to a blue menu that said:
Enter the fastboot…
Enter the fastboot…
Long time no see!
It just stays there. I took the battery out and the phone boots fine. It turns out there really are no good ROMs for this phone and it is kind of pointless to root it. So I want to restore it to the factory condition. When I do a factory reset it brings me back to the blue menu.
I have read a few tutorials that said that I can flash the phone with the stock LG ROM. I found a site that had a tutorial and a download with what looked like LG Flash Tools and a file that is named to look like what I need. It is in a .tot format though. The flash tools program does not appear to work with USB and the tutorial tells me to change COM ports in the device manager. I am using a notebook with Windows 8. There is no way to change the ports in the device manager manually because it is “ported” by the OS.
Would someone please help me and offer some more relevant advice? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

ok....thats weird
first try pulling out your battery.....then put it back in...then hold both volume buttons while you turn it back on w/ the power button....when the black samsung screen pops up let them go...the phone should go into the stock 2e recovery...

[Q] Help for my LG Vortex

Hi,
I rooted my LG Vortex (no recovery installed yet), and deleted bloatwares such as Verizon Navigations and other apps. It was running great for the last two months until I reset my phone. After resetting the phone, I can no longer log in to my phone. After the phone is turned on, it tell me to choose the language and activate the phone. Then, LG Setup screen showed up and when I click next, it says unexpected error occurs and went back to choose language screen. I think I might have deleted something that is required to setup LG welcome screen. Is there anyway I can do to get the phone working? Any advice would be appreciated.
if you really did delete something essential, i think you should start back from scratch. find the kdz file for the lg vortex and flash it using kdz updater (of course, research this stuff first because while kdz updater is used to flash your phone, it can also brick your phone if you're not careful)
btw, heres how to get your kdz file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865479
edit: actually, this is an easier way to get your kdz file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073827
and heres a guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881
Thanks sweetnsour. Unfortunately, I cannot find stock ROM for Vortex there. One more potential problem is that since can't log into settings, I cannot turn on USB debugging mode. I do not know if USB debugging mode has to be enabled to perform KDZ flash.
This is the error message that I received at the welcome screen.
"The application com.android.LGSetupWizard(process com.android.LGSetupWizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
i know this reset might be similar to what you did, but i want to try all possibilities of saving your phone before we go into the hard stuff:
turn off your phone, hold the home+vol down+power. it should boot into the stock recovery and do a reset (i believe, at least this is what happened to me)
and if that doesnt work, check your pm.
heres a better guide (i shouldve posted this earlier, sorry), this should clarify some things

[Q] Unable to root Bell Galaxy I5500, HELP!

I am an android noob and I have been very frustrated because the OS boot setup does not allow me to control which apps will boot-up at start. I’ve tried various startup managers and none of them can keep apps disabled as they seem to auto start themselves so I have to constantly close apps in order to preserve resources.
I Then sought to root phone to gain control by using a collection of root apps; Universal Androot – v1.6.2 beta 5, 6 & 7, z4root & Super One Clickv2.2 all w/o success. I do not know why they failed only that these apps seemed to do no harm to the phone otherwise. The phone is a Samsung Galaxy I5500M through PC Mobile, the carrier being Bell Mobile. The following is the particulars on the phone:
Model number: GT-I5500M
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: I5500MUGKE3
Kernal version: 2.6.29-perf [email protected]#1
Build number: ECLAIR.UGKE3
When I dial *2767*4387264636#.
Product code: GT-I5500YKMBMC.
When I dial *#1234# I get;
PDA: I5500MUGKE3
CSC: I5500MUGKE3
Phone: I5500MUGKE3
I have an acquaintance that has the same phone from the same source that attempted to install a custom ROM using the method outlined on the madteam website "cyanogenmod-7-installation-guide-for-g5-users"
Unfortunately after rebooting that phone it simply boot looped on the Samsung & Android logos. After many attempts to fix boot loop the phone was put aside, to my knowledge that phone has yet to be repaired.
Anyway, I really want to take control of this phone but am afraid of bricking it. Any help to be able to at the very least root it or even better to install a custom ROM would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much to all those that have contributed to this forum… it is amongst the most informative I’ve come across.
Hello there!
If your phone isn't rooted you won't be able to install a custom rom or anything, so I shall try and help you as much as I can, I'm a noob at this kind of stuff too so I'd wait for somebody to confirm what I say before you try it.
I rooted and installed Superuser on my I5500 using Universal Androot, took a few tries though so it might be worth trying it again.
Basically, can you put your phone into download mode? (Turn off device, hold down power button and the volume buttons and it should boot into Download Mode) If so then you could install Clockworkmod (Don't hold me to this, wait for some confirmation from someone with more knowledge) I'm not sure if your device has to be rooted to flash Clockworkmod v4. Even if it doesn't then surely accessing Download Mode and opening KIES will allow you to reset your device and get out of the boot loop.
Here is how to install a custom rom- I use Cyanogenmod 7.1, I'd recommend that to be honest, plenty of customization and many options to tweak performance.
Root your device (I use Universal Androot, it worked for me)
Flash Clockworkmod v4 via Odin.
Put the 3 Cyanogenmod files onto your SD Card.
Reboot into recovery on your device.
Select install update from zip.
Select the 3 files in the specific order.
Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache then reboot.
Then you're running CM7.1.
You can find the files and a more in-depth guide on the Development section under our phones name.
I hope I have helped a bit.
oh I almost forgot, have you tried hard-reseting your device by holding down certain buttons in a specific order? If so then you can reset your phone like that and maybe sort out the boot issue, should fix it, but again don't hold me to it. Hold down the menu/home key, volume key and power off button whilst your device is turned off and that does a hard reset.
Hi CurtisAndroid5,
Thank you for responding. To give a little history I have tried repeatedly using Universal Androot – v1.6.2 beta 5, 6 & 7, z4root & Super One Clickv2.2 to able to gain Superuser access all w/o success. As far as the custom ROM... that would be the ULTIMATE! But as mentioned on the original post there is someone I know that has possibly bricked one using the exact instructions outlined by the madteam when installing cyanogenmod-7 & spent weeks trying to solve a boot loop... still not fixed. The only reason I have not attempted to do this is I don't want to see the same result.
I have literally booked marked a dozen or more threads, have read hundreds of posts trying to find a solution to rooting this Bell Samsung phone. In my searches I've found on Samsung Open Source website a zipped update; "GT-I5500M_OpenSource_eclair_update2" that I no idea how to use. I honestly think that there are some subtle differences in how Bell sets up their phones that prevents rooting & Superuser access.
I will delve deeper into your suggestion and view posts under the Development section under the phone name. Again your response is deeply appreciated. Thanks!
Ah I see, like I said, I'm not the most experienced person in this kind of stuff so I can't help you any more seen as though my knowledge is limited. I hope you managed to sort your phone out, it will probably be a minor error and will be easily fixed, your G5 will be an amazing little phone once you get it rooted and installed a custom rom!
I had the same problem with my samsung i5500, i just got odin, flashed clockworkmod with it then put in my custom rom, i'm currently on cyanogen mod 1.7.2

[Q] ill pay money for help. brick

LG C800
Device will not enter fastboot.
Can't get into recovery mode.
Each time it boots it hard resets. There is an unofficial CWM Recovery Rom on this forum from chui101 which is for this exact phone, but I have as of yet not had any luck in getting the phone to take it.
So far i've tried Flash_image recovery.img (renamed chui's CWM recovery file to recovery.img)
Doesn't seem to matter what I do the phone starts(LG on screen), resets (the LG goes away for a sec then comes back), does a hard reset (a white box with an arrow pointing out of it an to a little android), again resets the phone one last time for a "normal" boot.
I've tried a few different things to try and flash anything overtop of the stock recovery but nothing works. It seems like very early in the bootstrap is a command to do a hard reset and anything that gets put in AFTER that command is ignored. (And the phone hard resets and anything else it was supposed to do is gone.)
Device is rooted with SuperSU.
Phone is fully functional except that it hard resets every boot, and if its plugged in when off it doesn't go to a charging screen, it starts the phone 100% up.
Adb devices CAN see the phone.
I CAN get into Download (sometimes called Emergency) mode.
"reboot recovery" doesn't do anything but reboot the phone as described above.
I can't afford a new phone guys, so I'm over a barrel at this point.
i'll pay whoever provides meaningful help in getting this thing fixed.
You should start fresh. So, flash the stock rom FTF of your phone, then the phone should boot up normally. Then you could either root it and install a CUSTOM recovery, or flash a pre-rooted custom kernel that already contains a recovery. From there, just flash the custom rom you want
Just press thanks if I helped, no need for money
stock rom FTF?
From the factory?
I'd love to do that. But am bewildered as to how when every guide I've found says use fastboot -- which doesn't work on my device. And every guide without fastboot thus far has not worked. I've been reading 10 hrs a day for the last 3 days looking for a solution to this.
If there was a way to completely wipe the entire phone and then install stock rom I'd be glad to do it.... I have found no such guide... only those to replace recovery. (not a 100% clearing as if it came right off the line with no software yet installed)
Additional information:
mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak
Spits out a "No such file or directory" error
I don't know about you, but for Xperia Devices there is a PC software called Flashtool to flash stock roms and custom kernels and stuff from the PC. There should also be a software like that for your device. You just download the stock FTF for your phone (just type in google "download stock FTF for LG C800") and flash it in Flashmode that should be working
One more thing, this issue is not called bricked
press thanks if i helped
There is an LG tool but it says current software is up to date.
Other option is run recovery, which just reboots the phone as is.
No, this software I am talking about is not made by LG or Sony in my case. It should be a general tool for all LG devices. it should root, flash, install busybox, etc......

LG MOBILE SUPPORT TOOL ?
Thats the one that so far doesn't work.
the one named:
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN ?
He doesn't appear to support GSM phones. Plus I hit "Read info from phone" button... it gets almost everything -- correctly -- then crashes.
IT wants kdz files... looking for them now... chui has a dl link for the stock recovery but even though its a few mb it looks like only a zipped folder hierarchy with no files.
Slightly mis-read. still not finding any "generic" flashing software
trying octopus now....
crashed....
run as admin..... ah... you need their hardware which is hundreds of dollars...
Flash image gui, phone is not supported.
ok, a couple cyanogen dev's have both told me i'm screwed. Imma try for the rest of today and then just never turn it off again.
ok, paying lg to fix it... anybody guess what that will cost?
Try flashing CyanogenMod on your phone as no stock firmware is avaiable currently for your phone cyanogenmod shall fix the problem and you should boot normally (first flash CWM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752704 - flashing cwm recovery (do it!)
Flashing cyanogenmod (requires usb debugging on)
First to put the cyanogenmod rom in the sdcard use adb push - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
Page 1 (Pre Requisites - http://droidnoob.com/update-lg-c800-to-android-4-0-4-ics-via-cm9.html
Page 2(The actual flashing part :victory - http://droidnoob.com/update-lg-c800-to-android-4-0-4-ics-via-cm9.html/2
Probably will fix the problem....
hi techmasta,
I'd love to flash cyanogenmod, but the phone never enters fastboot to flash anything. The first link you posted says to use fastboot. I can't do that. The phone doesn't goto fastboot, it runs its recovery first.
EDIT: if there is a way to force it while the phone is in download mode that could probably work.
secondly, I've spend more than 40 hours on this issue, mostly reading forums but still a great deal on google.
I'm pretty unhappy with google as neither of those droidnoob forums ever come up. And believe me, there isn't much out there referring to the lg c800 so they should have!

[Q] Please please help this noob out!

As previously stated I am a complete noob when it comes to flashing android devices.
Here is the problem I am faced with: I recently rooted, and unlocked the bootloader on my atrix hd (ATT)
Since then I tried installing cm10.1 multiple times on the secondary "Rom slots" within the bootloader, without any success. So I finally decided to go for it and install cm10.1 in the "stock rom" slot, Prior to doing this I did a back-up using Rom manager. Aand now I seemingly can't even boot into recovery mode, every time I restart my device it simply goes to the cyanogenmod blue ring thingy and gets stuck! (I have left it for 15-20 mins thinking it might be some kind of installation process..) But apparently it's not and i've broken my smartphone lol. Anyway i'd really appreciate some help fixing this problem, a step-by step guide would probably work best..!!! I have both windows 8 and Ubuntu installed on my pc, just saying..Don't know if it's relevant information and may simplify fixing my problem...Thanks in advance guys and girls
i've even tried holding down all three physical buttons and it simply takes me back to the same screen!!!
you could try something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434726
.. and you are sure, that you can not enter the recovery menu??
official motorola guide, how to enter recovery menu:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/60620/action/auth
.. adb could be your last possibility, if everything else fails, google it, you'll find many answer
