Omate has released an iOS companion app a few days ago (simply called "Omate" on the App Store), but they are being rather cagey about whether or not it will work with the original TrueSmart watches distributed from the Kickstarter (and instead are pitching it only for their Omate X watches).
I know very little about Android, but I do know my TrueSmart won't even pair successfully over BlueTooth with my iPhone using Omate_TrueSmart_Operativ20140312_V2.0 (yes, I need to upgrade that asap anyway). But I'm curious if anyone has been able to establish notifications between iOS and their TrueSmart yet, either with Omate's new app or via some other way?
Omate X only, and iOS7 and above.

Hello everyone,
I just got a Nook Tablet I have never had any smart phone or tablet before, and I have never purchased an app. My question is about DRM on apps.
If I buy an app from the B&N store, will I only be able to use it on my Nook Tablet? For example, if I get an Android phone in the future, will I be able to use my Nook Tablet apps on it?
I know that there are other marketplaces such as the Android marketplace and the Amazon app store. Are there similar issues with those as well?
Where is the best place to buy an app to ensure I won't have to buy it a second time?

Buy from the google market if you want to use it in the future for android phone/tablet.
Does that mean that if I buy from the Google market, I can copy the app to a new device and install it again? Would the new device also have to have the Google market installed?
What it is about buying an app from B&N that would restrict me from transferring and installing my app on a new device?
* bump *

Yes, you can copy it and install it anywhere regardless where you buy the app - manually copy it or use a backup program like Titanium backup. If you want to tie the program to the market, so you can get updates for it, you can redownload it from the android market, or use a program to tie it to the market so it recognizes it (but your account will have to have purchased the program if it's not a free one).
The android market is tied to devices - you cannot use it without a device registered to the account, which is different than the other markets/stores where an account is enough (currently). There is no issue installing the Amazon market, the B&N Market, etc on different devices and regrabbing programs. (But the external B&N market app doesn't run on nook tablets, only odd part.) Since the android market is by far the biggest one, it's probably the best place to buy things, but no you shouldnt' have issues with the other markets and transferring stuff around.
Anything you purchase through Google Market or Amazon App Store can be used and downloaded on any device as long as you use the same account (gmail for google, login for Amazon). I have three devices that all share the same apps. When you login to either for the first time, it will list all your purchased apps under "my apps" and you can download directly from there. I have no experience with the B&N market yet.
I keep a second family gmail account and make purchases through that on Google market so my family can all share the same purchased apps and our own seperate gmail accounts for email, calendar, etc.
There's no definitive answer, since a) it depends on the vendor's permission, b) the "app store" scheme is still in a state of flux, both conceptually and in implementation.
In theory, whatever "app store" you buy an app from will allow authorization for any devices linked to that store. Since Google's uses Gmail, then any device linked to a particular Gmail acct should be authorized.
Presently, buying from Google allows the widest reach, assuming all your devices are linked to Gmail. Buying from B&N, in theory, would allow any B&N-linked devices (NC and NT for now) to be authorized. Ditto for Amazon's.
This is a problem, assuming you buy apps from different app stores. This will be addressed over time, by user demands of vendors to establish a commonal authorization system. Realize that we're still in the beta testing stage, not only of mobile devices and OS'es, but also their ecosystems.
Over time, one'd expect more vendors to eschew "per user" for a more granular "per device" or "per X devices." For one, it avoids the abuse of having a "communal" Gmail account--mentioned in the previous post--to share between different users. Since the latter requires additional infrastructural work, you only see this from a few large, established vendors for now. But all vendors are loathe to let a third-party control their vendor-client relationship, and will have their own proprietary authorization at some point.
Hey.
I just wondered if there would be any way to dsguise my phone as a tablet for starting an app in another mode...
I know it can depend on several things, but could it be done somehow?
I'm thinking about this: spotify free is now available for phones and tablets, too.
For phones it is limited in function, but for tablet devices it's free like the version for desktop computers.
So I want to make spotify "think" that my phone is not a phone but a tablet, to use full functionality of spotify free.
Here's an excerpt from the news:
The new tablet version of Spotify will mimic the free desktop app by allowing users complete control over what music they choose. The free smartphone version, available for iOS and Android, will allow users to shuffle randomly through their own playlists, playlists by friends and artists’ catalogues. Users won’t be able to select individual songs on demand with the mobile version, and neither the tablet or mobile apps will let people download songs to their device, a feature of the premium version of Spotify. The new features will be available today.

Edit the build.prop ? (make a copy/backup before you do). This is a workaround for many apps, such as Foxtel (pay TV) Go in Australia. It only works natively with the SGS3, Note 2 & Note 10.1, but if you edit your build.prop to fool the app & hide root before you use it, you can use it on other Android devices.
This may/may not work with the Spotify app, and will depend on what it checks to determine whether that version of the app is acceptable to use on a particular device (checking build.prop is a common one though).
There is another discussion about trying to get Spotify to display in the tablet mode here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565626
Unfortunately, none of the common tricks have worked so far (build.prop, DPI, denying access to phone state, etc.). Noone has yet to figure out how the app determines whether you are using a phone or not. If you have any ideas or information to contribute, please add it to the thread I posted the link to so that we can all use that information to hopefully figure out a solution.
Good evening,
After months of research, I decided to ask for help in order to find the rare app I'm looking for.
Owner of a N7100 operating under CM 11, I discovered when I upgraded to KK that one of my favorite (and abandoned) app wasn't working anymore.
That app is EasySMS ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fireblade.easysms ). It's a classic desktop SMS app that works locally without any outside server.
I know that there are already a lot of apps that do the same (MightyText, DesktopSMS, MySMS…), but as a privacy minded individual, they just don't do the cut. You can even scare yourself a little by reading their vague "privacy" statements.
My dream requirements for such an app would be that it can work without any external server interaction (like EasySMS) or with end to end encryption between my texts and my device (like the now defunct BrowserTexting).
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Didraskein.
I have had the Gear S since christmas and love it and I know it has the potential to be even better but wondered if any of you experts out there might be able to answer me a question. I've seen reports of Samsungs new Z1 phone which runs Tizen, being able to run android apps using OpenMobiles ACL program. Could this ever work on the Gear S, if so it would make an already great product into something greater!! Please let me know if I have this all wrong.
Open mobile ACL is something where devs submit their apps to them and its part of an App Store of sorts, that being said, I've looked into the rom of that phone and it may be worth extracting some of the apps that are already native to Tizen.
@cipherswitch my man you are everywhere!
You are the Gear Mayor!
Keep up the good work.
Amazfit Communication Library
The Amazfit Communication Library is a reverse engineered and modified version of the Huami "Transporter" class (and its subclass "TransporterClassic"), along with its dependencies. This allows both sending and receiving data on both the phone and the watch, using the same library.
Bascially, this allows apps on the watch to access data via a companion app on the phone. To make this easier, this library comes hand in hand with the "AmazfitInternetCommunication" app, which can be installed on the phone and allows apps on the watch to access the internet and perform simple requests, with data in response.
However, you can use this library with your own companion app on the phone to access any data the phone app has access to, for example a companion app on the phone with access to calendar appointments would allow a watch app to display events on a calendar, on the watch.
Usage
See the GitHub repo for the latest code and guide for addition of the library. You can also compile it if you wish.
Amazfit Internet Companion
Amazfit Internet Companion is a generic and open source internet companion app for the Amazfit Pace and Stratos. It allows apps developed with the Amazfit Communication library to access the internet over Bluetooth via a phone's internet connection. As a developer, rather than having to develop your own companion app, you can simply have your users install the companion app and it'll handle the rest, so long as you use the internet functions in the library (LocalURLRequest). Link them to the thread or use your own guide, linking to the latest APK from the repo to use this.
Alternatively, you can develop your own companion app. This could be used for loads of things, for example a companion app could provide a watch app with the calendar events on the phone, provided the phone app had the right permissions and formatted the data correctly. If you want to make your own companion app, feel free to use the Internet Companion app as a base
Hi Quinny, thanks for your great work. Did you make tests of how much this affects the battery life, egg with your train app?
Is it possible to run this in as a background service on watch?

I've not done proper tests but I've had it running for a few days with no noticeable effect on the life. Yes, you should be able to use a background service on the watch, if you need an app on the watch to always be available for receiving information from the phone - but bear in mind that the watch only has 512MB of RAM, so a running service is more taxing on the watch compared to a phone. You may be better off with a background service on the phone that stores the information you wish to send to the watch, which then responds to the watch app when it's run - an ondemand request if you will

So if the watch can get any data from the phone, does that mean I can run Wear apps, like the Hangouts Wear app, on the watch and use it as it works on a regular Wear device? If so that would be incredible.
still work for watches in 2020?
hello, I know it's been a while since the last time this topic was discussed, does anyone know how to inform without this package still working today? I recently purchased an amazfit verge and since my house is completely automated, I want to develop an app for personal use ... thanks!

Still works, not tested it on the Verge though. Should work the same, they use the same framework I think.
