[Q] no dialer or messages - Dell Venue

hello i have got dell venue 7 t01c it has a sim card slot when i put the sim in all signals go full but no icon to make a call or text it only has people in it and it imports the contaacts from sim but no option to call or text please help me

The Dell Venue 7 3730 HSUPA+ which you have (T10C) does not have SMS/Dialler enabled. You can VoIP calls through Viber/Skype etc using your 2G/3G/HSUPA Sim Connection. Even if you install the Dialler/SMS app it is still locked through USSD code dialling. There is an Xposed Module available to unlock SMS functionality and Dialler ability but it needs you to have a Rooted device. I tried it and SMS does work but the dialler was not compatible. (Just sent a call but the screen turned black and there was no interface). But if you are rooting your device for that make sure you backup and "read" the method first. This is a guide/Toolkit on rooting your device. DO NOT TRY IT without reading first!

Hi, I have a Dell Venue 7 HSPA+. I've rooted the tablet and installed the Xposed Framework.
But now it seems that no Xposed module is compatible for my device .
How did you install yours?

Sorry for getting back to you late, I haven't been around my tablet that much but I think there were a lot of "general" modules which were compatible. You installed the Xposed framework and App and when you search for modules, look for the ones which say "applicable to KitKat" or "for 4.4.2" those should work I think the SMS enabler was one of them. Sorry if I missed something but haven't used the Tablet since almost a year or so now... (it would be great if you could post a screenshot.)

What is the name of that module

[Q] Making phone calls with the galaxy tab 10.1v??

Hello guys,
does anybody knows how to make phone calls with the samsung GT-P7100 galaxy tab 10.1v? got my simcard in it and dont know how to call, sending smses, and how to get all my contacts on my tab wich one i got on my simcard?? are there any apps for it ?
Kind regards,
joan
To get contacts, sync your contacts to GMAIL then sync your gmail account.
Search the appstore for textfree with voice. Or just use Google Voice.

But the phone contacts in GMAIL. And I think that if you email someone's phone at their service provider, it will be sent to them as an SMS.
Code:
[email protected]
For an example. I'm 90% sure that's correct (can't remember where I read it), so try it out on your phone first. Tell me if it works!

dont think this will work, there was someone on a dutch forum asked the same, but samung made a mistake on there website about the discription. in the discriptions they were saying you can call and text someone trough your provider, so one off them contacted with samsung and they said it was a mistake on ther website
Oh, IDK then
so,ok i'm confused.
is there a way to make phone calls with the 10.1v? I mean with the sim card and a dialer and all.
otherwise i don't get it why they have a handsfree with the device...
I'm kinda interested in this too.. the tab 10.1v didn't come with a dialer app, when other apps tied to make a phone call I just get a prompt asking if I wanna save the number in my contacts and that's it.
ironically according to Vodafone AU, they encourage you to use Skype or VOIP to make phone calls...even the plan for the Tab is data only (although if you put the SIM in another phone you'll be able to make GSM calls at exorbitant rates).
P.S. the handsfree is for VOIP/Skype dialing - or so as it was intended by design.
The android 3.0 is only for tablet, no phones at all, so this OS is not designed for mobile phones, so all android 3.0 tablet cannot make a phone call, as well as moto Xoom.
However, some guys may crack this operating system and add some codes( something like that ) and make the tablet can be calling. As far as I know, moto Xoom can make a phone call but it is unstable. Perhaps we need more people to get this tablet to develop this phone call function

I'm not so sure that's true... I'm pretty certain that Honeycomb is quite capable of making and receiving phone calls, but I doubt that carriers want that functionality for all the same reasons that US carriers gimped the US versions of the 7" Tab. Selling a single device that "does it all" is bad for business.
If you look in this video, you can see at various points where you're given an option to make a voice call, and in the settings screen, you have a "Call settings" option in there, but whether or not we will actually be able to do that when the device is released, is another question altogether...
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 live first look
I'm also interested in this (wither the 10.1 Tab is able to do voice calls).
For the guy who said "Honeycomb cant make phone calls"

Appearntly the Samsung Tab 8.9 is able to do voice calls, you can do it using your contacts, .. or by using a 3rd party dialer from market.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has just arrived in our office and, boy, do we have some news for you. It turns out that the Honeycomb slate takes on from where its 7” predecessor left off, and brings native telephony capabilities to an even larger form factor.
Yeap, we are talking regular GSM network phone calls and even some video-calls if you wish. There’s no dialer on board, but you can either get a 3rd party app from the market (as we did), or use your contacts list for initiating calls.

I don't think we're talking about making phone calls with a 3rd party VoIP services like Skype or Tango. We're talking about making native GSM carrier switched phone calls in exactly the same manner as you can with the 7" Tab (and regular ol' mobile phones of course).
GSM? Please say yes.
Been using my 7 inch with ATT and rotohammer's rom on it to make calls since the device was released. I would love to get the 10.1 but can't see going back to using two devices, voip is not an option.
My two questions:
1. Will ATT be carrying this device
2. Can it be modified to use GSM phone service, (not skype)

this is an old issue that we have found out how to work around. Get the tethering plan and they don't mind you using you tab as a 'do everything' device. It was the iphone unlimited data plan that made the execs at att get their big girl panties in a wad. You have to be willing to pay for it, which I am, but it works great. Now, back to my questions, aside from att issues, does the 10.1 device have the ability to be used as a gsm phone?

Well, I guess that's my issue then; I'm not willing to let go of my unlimited data plan (either of them) so, I'm just using it as a data only device for now with my Laptop Connect SIM instead.
Back on topic though, as for being able to use the 10.1(v) inch tab as a GSM phone, from a purely hardware standpoint, there's no technical reason why it can't. Even GSM/UMTS devices which are branded as "data-only" devices, such as aircard modems, are capable of making and receiving ordinary GSM phone calls, provided you have the right software to utilize those functions. (I should know, I used to make regular phone calls from my Sierra Wireless 870 all the time). Now, whether or not carriers will allow the manufacturer to ship their devices with those calling abilities out-of-box, is an entirely different matter...
So, to summarize:
Is the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 10.1v, 8.9, etc. capable of making and receiving GSM phone calls the same way a GSM phone can? Yes, probably.
Will carriers support this innate hardware capability and allow users to make and receive regular GSM phone calls to and from their tablet devices? Probably not.
That's why I brought up my older post. Not because it isn't still an issue for that specific device, but rather because it's still an issue on the principle that US carriers (not just AT$T), apparently will deliberately cripple new technology in order to force us, the consumers, into buying more of their crap when we don't necessarily need to. E.g. forcing us to buy two line subscriptions, one for data, and one for both voice and data, when one line subscription would have been perfectly ample to suiting our needs, had we been allowed (officially) to use tablet devices as GSM phones as well, and switch freely between the two.
Jus got a 10.1v. For sure phone calls are not supported. But for sure the hardware supports it. Its just "CLOSED" for this tablet via software.
I am sure some cool developer can sort that out pretty soon for us though.
Really would want this to happen.

Apologies for leaving out the most Important part.
Viber is an application for iPhone® and Android™ phones that lets you make free phone calls and send text messages to anyone who also has the application installed.
Its basically a Voip Solution but the Audio quality as been excellent for me so far, I ve got it installed on my 3G tab and its been really great.

Yes My tab being 3G I could receive and send messages just unable to make voice calls and I ve also heard you can use it on wifi as well just need to supply a mobile number when registring to activate the service but you are not able to use the same mobile number to activate the service on 2 devices at the same time.
Hope that helps.
Viber can be used on 3g tablet and wifi tableth both , if you have 3g tablet there would be no problem if you want to activate the application via your tab simcard
but if you have wifi version just give your handphone number while you are asked to do so after you received the code on your phone just enter it on your tablet and then can use it on wifi version
Installed viber. Messaging works fine but calls didn't work for me and viber has crashed several times. Do you have any idea?

[Q] Voice and sms through 3g Stick?

I've got the 80 G9 and Archos 3G stick, when installed into my PC there is an sms app, is there any way of installing some phone voice and/ or sms functionality into the tablet?
I believe the Xoom has a partially working Google Voice hack.
I know this is a question but there's no Q&A thread, sorry.
for the sms
i use handcent sms
you can use skype... pretty cheap and you can keep your sms and call expenses separated from your internet ones...
I've got unlimited free SMS on the sim card though!
I've recieved network messages "Balance remaining £8.53" etc and WhatsApp managed to authenticate the phone number but Handscent can't send or recieve SMS.
Any more ideas?
UPDATE: SMS now working with 3rd party SMS apps (it was a sim card problem)
When they expand Google Voice to the rest of the world I'll have Voice capability too, Hopefully the Archos ICS update in 1st Q 2012 will leave phone functionality in the build.

[Q] Tablet S 3G as Phone/SMS

Hi,
I'm interesed in this tablet, but I would like to know if is possible to use the 3g version as phone (sms, mms...).
Maybe some app could do this?
Thank you
Depends on what you mean "as a phone". (This info refers to all tablets on the market by the way. NOT just the tablet S)
If you want the tablet to have it's own cell phone # provided by your carrier, then no. No tablets on the market will be given a phone number by a carrier. When they get their SIM card, that SIM just links it to your account and only gives it data privileges. With those privileges, you just get the amount of data you're paying for a month and you can't be assigned a voice/text plan with any minutes/messages.
You can however use applications to get a "temporary phone number" assigned to it. You give that number to your friends and you can text to/from them through that application. Check this thread for info on what applications do that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476315
As I mentioned in that thread, I use textab in conjunction with my android phone. My tablet and phone are bluetooth linked and I just get all my texts on the tab with my normal phone #. If you don't already have an android phone, that's probably not for you.
Finally, as for making calls on it, I'm not too sure about that. As I mentioned initially, the tablet will not get a phone # from your carrier so being able to completely use it as a phone is not an option. However there may be apps similar to the texting ones that can enable you to make calls over 3G or WIFI, but I really don't know anything about that.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your prompt answer.
What I mean is simpler. In my android phone I have a sim card with data plan. If I put this sim card into the tablet s, can I call, send sms and use internet?
Thank you again for your patience.
Hmm, interesting. I've never thought of that before.
My *Guess* is that it wouldn't work. I think you need to call your service provider to get the definite answer on that.
Although if you did get a tablet, you could have the same set up I'm using. I have an android phone and the tablet S. I have the Tablet using my phones 4G data through tethering. Also they're connected through bluetooth so I can send and receive all my texts from the tablet as well (with textab installed on phone and tablet). I leave my phone in my jacket and I only need to take it out if I'm making or receiving a phone call (Textab also instantly notifies you if the phone is ringing too)
Having an android phone and tablet is a great combo and I'd reccommmend it to anyone. I think having a tablet completely work as a phone would be good too as long as you have a bluetooth headset for it....but I can't imagine having to pull out a tab if you're on the go and having to do a lot of texting. Having the pair certainly leaves you in the most flexible position
----Oh yeah, I thought I'd add this on, and this is certainly just MY opinion so ignore it if it's terrible lol
But if you do get a tablet, I'd never reccommend getting a 3G one. You have to pay extra for it's own data plan, you could potentially get a long term contract for it, it costs more than the wifi only model, and I can't imagine too many times most people will find themselves with a tablet and no phone. It's usually the reverse there lol. The only good thing about a 3G tab is just that it can have internet when you don't have your phone and are in an area with no wifi. How often is that? lol
I am using my tablet to sent and receive sms. Works good
The Tablet P is pretty similar and I've put a mobile phone sim and can send and receive SMS but I have yet to find a way to use it as a phone (other than Skype or something similar)
Ian
yes and no
You can make internet calls that could work as a phone replacement as long as you have a good connection.
Not really a substitute as you would not want to carry your tablet around all the time, but it could work as a home based phone.

Not for me. I have this feature since Android 10 update. That's why I have started this thread about 3 months ago.
What region are you located in?
SM-T865 can be used as a normal smart phone. Doesn't need any extra features.
The feature sms/calls on other devices requires Samsung account and a Samsung phone. It will work on devices without a SIM card or with a SIM just for data when it's connected through Samsung account with a Samsung mobile phone. It's quite that simple
