FAQ
FIRST AND FOREMOST
HOW TO PROPERLY POST A BUG - Guide to logcats, dmesg and last_kmsg.
Coming in and saying "XYZ isn't working", isn't as helpful as some might think. Even if your intentions are good i.e., making this rom better, I (and any developer for that matter)needs more info. Logcats are the way to do this. If it's a kernel panic, last_kmsg is where it's at. Without supplying me with proper logs I may not be able to help and you may be ignored. Sorry to be harsh but we all have lives outside of xda(hopefully) and time is pretty precious.
GPS isn't working! HELP!
While it works for me, this has been a known issue on LG phones and AOSP roms since I owned my LGOG. First thing to try is to restore your stock backup, get a lock for a few minutes then restore the rom. The only other issue may be with your particular version of GAPPS. Sometimes Google Services can act funny with location services. I use PA Nano and have had zero issues with GPS.
Why won't NFC work?
This is a bug for pretty much every rom right now. We are all working on a fix and as soon as one is available, I will rebuild and reupload the rom.
My 64gb+ sd card won't work!!
While exFAT is usually preferred over FAT32, exFAT has been hit or miss so USE A COMPUTER to format your sd card to FAT32 if exFAT doesn't work for you. DO NOT USE TWRP OR STOCK LG - USE A COMPUTER!!!!

You will be or are you asking if I will be? Lol - I didn't have any plans too. Building and maintaining 3 roms, a stock kernel as well as doing themes, bootanimations and who knows what else will keep me pretty busy.

Vanir. I posted that awhile ago and the vanir team is fully supporting us via their server and google+ page. They've moved onto lollipop but I'm still tinkering with kit kat.
Only other rom I'd like to get going is Omni but it's a much different beast.
Edit: And ty btw.

Tectas is working on rin kernel for both lollipop and aosp. We still have a few slight bugs to iron out on the stock version but as soon as an aosp version is available - chances are I'll build it.

If they're both 4.4 based, then yes. The audio backend should be identical.

It recognizes mine - have you read the FAQ(Second post)? Even if it was formatted as FAT32, we've been finding that it's best to copy your card to your pc, format it again on a computer then put everything back. This has been an issue with switching roms and using sd cards, even if you haven't experienced it yet. Remnants left behind will do everything from not allowing it to be read to interferring with other aspects of the system.

my favorite ROM from N4!!! excited
Substantially is the base AOSP from which the CarbonDev Team will construct its ROM.
You'll find Superuser, Performance Tool, Theme management, Dev Tools and something little else.
Donwloading, will post report as soon as it's installed.
Edit : ok, seems like ROM is not rooted and no included gapps. Everything is fluent, maybe more than stock. No new functionnality, just CM profiles.

Nice to see new ROM coming out, just a question, CM profiles are (or will be) implemented?

Flash SuperSU to get root. Typically, ROMs don't include gapps especially ROMs that are <200MB. Flash PA gapps or whatever corresponding 4.4 gapps, I personally prefer Banks gapps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 (you get gmail, google maps etc on play store). No unnecessary gapps bloatware like including QuickOffice/Google earth/google drive/google music/etc.
It was also mentioned in OP about gapps, but yeah thanks for the reporting. This will be my main ROM once it has a decent number of additions that we'd all expect from Carbon.

aragog53 did mention that there aren't any new features except CM Profiles. I personally haven't flashed it but I see in the zip that there is Theme Chooser support. For the most part, its most likely just a barebones AOSP with minor features.
Thanks but this doesn't boot. How much did you test it before posting it?

Advance Power Menu
Performance CPU/Custom Kernel Control
Theme Engine
Expandable Sound
Pulse notification light ( I dont think this is stock could be wrong)
And profiles
I'm sure more will come, thanks op

Doesn't boot for me with Faux 002 beta 4. I actually got it to boot once but had endless com.android.phone force closes and am wiping to try again.
Attempted boot three times, once after wipe with flash of kernel, once after wipe with no kernel flash, and once with kernel flash after a successful boot.

Multiple force closes after flashing Franco's latest test .img as well. Suppose I will try Elemental at this point, nothing to lose.

Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why don't I have root access after installing OmniROM?
A: OmniROM does not have an official, prebuilt root method yet, so you'll just need to flash SuperSU in recovery and you'll have 100% working root access. SuperSU can be found here: SuperSU
Q: Where is <insert feature here>, like CM/AOKP/PA/etc have??
A: Omni is still very early in development, but moving at an incredibly fast rate. New feature, bug fixes, and device support are added just about daily. Check it out here: OmniROM Gerrit Review for the latest and greatest
Q: How do I start/stop screen recording?
A: Volume UP + Power will start screen recording. Simply drag the notification bar down and click the button to stop.
Q: HALP NFC doesn't work!!
A: We know.

I've had Omni on my flo for a while now and love it, I got excited when I started seeing jf come up in gerrit and was wondering when this day would come. Thank you for working towards supporting this device!
edit
Just did a fresh install of this ROM. Couple issues I've already come across..
My screen after a restart won't go to sleep after the specified time or by pushing the power/sleep button.
Not sure if this is related, but I have enabled active display and got an FC error upon my first notification and had to battery pull.
Update: After turning off Active display I can now put my phone to sleep without issue.
So... I've read the 'this is what custom roms should be' press release three times now, and I still have no idea what differentiates Omni from other ROMs. Is it a custom interpretation of AOSP code, like Cyanogenmod, or features ladled over Cyanogen code, like most other ROMs? Does it offer any of the fiddly knobs of Paranoid Android, or is this going to be a feature-avalance like AOKP or PAC?
I know things are still early days for Omni, but what am I looking forward to when I flash your ROM?

OmniROM is based on straight AOSP code, if you look in the source on github, you will see that VERY few repositories are actually forked from AOSP at all (put external in the search bar for Omni's public repos). Omni is designed to have many features and options that are all able to be toggled by the user. Omni is about choices, and giving the end-user the choices to make the ROM function the way that THEY want it to. 99% of features added to OmniROM come with a toggle to turn it on or off, hence "choices" :good:
The changelog pretty much gives a breakdown of all the features, because since the first 4.4 build, i did not make any releases until we fixed some major issues. This ROM is just about 100% stable. I say "just about" because if I reported my actual experience, which is literally ZERO issues, on nexus 5 and galaxy s 4, people would hang me and start bombarding me with "well what about this error I have that no one else does".
Best advice, make a backup and flash it. if you don't like it, then just restore your backup. no harm no foul. but i'm willing to bet you stick on this for a bit. There are a ton of features that are unique to OmniROM that other ROMs do NOT have.
also, pretty HUGE status update will be coming tonight (hopefully) as well
I'm freaking stoked I've been wanting to try OmniROM!

I've been hoping that someone would bring this over to us so I could try it out. Been running it most of the day today with almost no issues. Haven't really had a chance to play with it a lot, but so far it's been pretty solid. It did lock up on me once when switching to ART (using the Banks gapps), but after reflashing with PA gapps and sticking with Dalvik I haven't had any issues. Battery life is solid, and having the extra kernel tweaks with the built in kernel is much appreciated. Looking forward to the updates, thanks!

No, Xposed Frameworks mods will be up to the user to install and implement as they see fit. Generally, I think Omni has a fairly good amount of features already implemented, all with toggles to activate/deactivate, but as always, Xposed will be able to offer a little bit extra of things that we won't support out-of-the-box. I would be wary of using Xposed though, as you will need to ensure that the mods you are installed are updated for 4.4 Aroma will NEVER be implemented into OmniROM source, as it is not 100% stable and is not supported by all devices that Omni supports, and therefore would cause serious, serious issues. I'm sure people will make their own kangs of this eventually and there may be one with Aroma installer, but this will not ever implement that.
Also, some things to look forward to in the near future:
Omni File Explorer - OmniROMs native root file manager
native root support (you will no longer need to flash SuperSU in recovery)
OpenDelta - Omni's OTA Updater
NFC fix *properly*
Multi-Window
a big surprise in the next few hours

I would be VERY cautious of using ART as of now, it is still highly experimental in AOSP source and google needs to make a lot of improvements before I would use it standard

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first created based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean because of curiosity. In the early days, it was just a one man show on one device (EVO 3D). However, many others have joined the project since and it has grown a lot. We have seen a wide variety of talent contribute to this project of ours and many of our contributors have gone on to help other projects, and that is ultimately why we do what we do.
Once Jelly Bean was over, we decided in Kitkat to move to a new base, which was OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting because it challenged us to see what we could with something different.
With Lollipop, we have moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. With that said, it has been an awesome learning experience and it's still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward.
Few more things we will say is that we don't accept nor ask for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc.....
All we do ask is that you search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

Thanks a ton.

Very impressive ROM. Lots of features included. Great work. Doesn't have the backlight/screen flicker issues some of the other lollipop ROMs have. This is my new daily driver, only problem is you can't record video still but I'm sure that'll get fixed sometime soon.

May I know what is the boot.img for? Do i need to flash it too? Sorry for noob question.

Loved DU on my razr maxx :good:
How do i flash it using Multirom?
tried but stuck at Sony logo.
Thanks.
Sounds cool. Will ya update features and bugs in the post, soon?
ambient display FC ....
bugs?
1. Google music stopped playing music after the first song played. After a reboot songs on app will disappear.
Used an app to scan media but still song won't play and will promt "DSP manager stops responding"
2. Google Play hang ups after google music bug happened
3. H+ icon on signal was a bit overlapped ob signal icon
4. No option to transfer app data to microSD
5. Some hang-ups on system and FC's on some apps.
6. Built in keyboard : popup characters are not displayed correctly
FYI
last thing, can I install other kernel? EX: Zombie Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/development/anykernel2-zombie-t2926584
I flashed the ROM a few hours ago but with ZombieKernel instead of the CrDroid one attached. Everything seems to work well, the only detail is that I lose my WiFi connection sometimes or rather, it is connected but apps claim that they are unable to access the Internet. Turning it off and then on again fixes it.
The other item I noticed is that nothing happens when I try to add quick toggles.
Beside those minor things, everything seems to be smooth and stable.
I like all those Lollipop ROMs that arrived recently and it is a great performance improvement over KitKat even when I used optimized Bionic/Dalvik.

I did this 30 minutes ago and - knock on wood - it seems to work now (had the device on sleep while taking a shower and it still had WiFi connection):
Copy all the files in "/etc/firmware/wlan/prima" to "/data/misc/wifi/prima" and Reboot. (Don't forget the permissions)
Otherwise, it feels like Dirty Unicorns is a very promising project. Perhaps my WiFi problems was router related since my C6802 (Validus Lollipop) started to act up all of a sudden WiFi wise so I made a "Norwegian Reset" of the router and it seems to be OK now.
The only thing I hope is that future builds can be dirty flashed since the lack of working Titanium Backup (app restore) is a bit annoying. Some users recommended the zip method and I will consider that option (make a flashable zip), which could work since my C6602 is still running KitKat. I.e. that I restore my backup on my Xperia Z, make flashable zip out of it and then flash it on the two Ultra's I have.
It seems like the WiFi fix did it. It seems to have a reliable connection now. I also noticed a lack of APNs but put my T-Mobile one in from my head and LTE works great. An excellent ROM simply put.
Hi
Is this ROM compatible with MultiROM (does the kernel have kexec hardboot feature?) or do i need to flash the Zombie LP Kernel for compatibility with MultiROM?

Latest zombie no longer supports multirom twrp
I am afraid that the WiFi bug is still affecting me. I tried to make calls through Hangouts Dialer now and they simply timed out. The WiFi indicates connection but the sound disappears and a check with the web browser give errors about "no connection".
Since I like the ROM very much, I will flash it on my C6802 "Test Device" and return it to the C6833 when I see that the WiFi bug is killed.
It seems like it somehow "looses" the connection intermittently.

Team OctOs presents Oct-L.
We maintain a current release record and change-log on our website: http://www.teamoctos.com
- Please Do Not Mirror our files without talking to us. We can do that ourselves should we desire to. -
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 5 (Lollipop)?
A: Yes, this is Android 5.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-L based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12.1 code.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-L.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favourite Android 5 based GApps package
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot
The Oct-L ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider
The foundation of the Android OS is the fact that is it open-source. We have all code we use internally in the creation of Oct-L available on our GitHub repositories.
Unless otherwise specified, all Oct-L builds use the device's stock CyanogenMod 12 kernel.

Outstanding build. This was one of the easiest and painless installs in a while. No issues, at all,...... First boot less than 30 second and then off and running. This is donation worthy. Thank you for the build and support.
(Edited) Do you have a donate link? The one on your web page doesn't take me to any donate link and I didn't see one in your profile.

Everything works great. Problem was with package.
Thank you...
I looked at the CyanogenMod Theme Showcase in Play Store and I couldn't find a single positive review. Are there any good Black and Blue themes available for this rom? The white backgrounds are giving me a headache. So far I like everything else. This thing seems really fast.
Update: I tried to install ViPER4Android. Just like I've seen in all the Viper threads CM roms have a hard time with it. That's an absolute deal breaker for me. I'm not going to struggle with it. I'm restoring my KK backup now. I'm going to wait for a rom built on the manufacturer release like I originally planned.
So there's still the SMS/MMS twitch from the other CM12 builds, huh? Send a text message, it goes through; try to send a second and it hangs. enable airplane mode, then turn it off, and the next text goes through.
Anyone have any idea if there's a fix for this?
I also assume, though I didn't test it before I flashed back, that audio is hit or miss with video playback. On two other 5.0.2 CM based roms I tested, while watching a video with MX Player, audio would just stop working. No toggling or tweaking seemed to bring it back without a cache clear and reboot.
If I could get these two features consistently working, I'd LOVE to use 5.0.2 on my phone; it's wicked fast compared to KK. especially compared to TW, which is utter garbage, as we all know.

Everything in this build should be working OK:
WiFi
Camera
Video/audio playback
GPS
Bluetooth/A2DP
I'm not sure about the Nfc, I expect your feedback on that one.
However, don't expect miracles; the device is somewhat slow because its HW is a bit outdated.
It is 6.0.x, though.
I need this one, too.
flashed it and saw you really took a 3.4 kernel for this. cool.
Thanks for this! Everything looks good. NFC is fine although, and I'm not sure if this usually applies, the first picture I tried to transfer wouldn't as it said the file was too large. Used a smaller one and it worked fine. It's quite zippy with the minimal number of apps I've installed.
I was hoping we would at least get credits for our 3.4 kernel and device trees though not to mention that I stated that I'd rather not see our not yet stable, wip and dev only 3.4 kernel included in ROMs yet, but I'm not even trying anymore... it's not my problem if someone can't charge their device anymore or has to disconnect and reconnect the battery to give life to it again.
I'm unable to apply a theme. FC's each time.
Your history is preserved to the letter in the kernel and device tree, so everybody can see and appreciate the work you've done. Does GPL licence require anything else?

no. but respect does. this answer is a pure smack in the face to someone who took months of work mainly alone to get 3.4 working for this device and this really deserves more!
Certainly appreciate the build but just to let you know, there is no sound at all. Also, with the 3.4 kernel, there is no power to USB OTG and my tab would not charge as @Ziyan stated. I've already tried Ziyan's MM rom with 3.4 and knew I would have to disconnect/reconnect the battery to get charging back.
I failed to read your entire OP and didn't know you were using 3.4 kernel, so that's on me. Regarding the sound, @srisurya95 compiled some early MM builds and they also had no sound.
Hopefully, you'll be able to fix this issue.
Thanks,
Mike T

I've got sound. Notifications and Google play etc. Did you clean flash?

Yeah, as always when installing a new rom. I just tested the sound in settings for media etc. and there was no sound. I didn't bother to test any further due to the issues I had with the 3.4 kernel.
Btw, just for the record I used the Banks Dynamic gapps linked in the OP.

Do I know you?
Anybody with a rudimentary knowledge of Github can see what's been done by who just by looking at the commits, so stating "great thanks to whoever" is surpluss to requirements.
All one needs to do is preserve the commit history and everything is visible and all the credits are given.

That's odd, I did exactly that as well. Perhaps you've been unlucky and it's a bad flash?

Thank you for your replies but at this time it's a moot point. With the charging and USB OTG issues relative to 3.4 kernel, I won't use a rom with 3.4 until @Ziyan and team say it's ready for prime time.
As an aside, let it be known I do appreciate the work by the OP and the DU team. They make an excellent rom.

Any F2FS support? Been waiting for this! Thank you!

No sound is the reason why I haven't released my build
Sound on mine is just fine...
I think that the main problem that this 3.4 issue happened is because the kernel was 'released' a month ago in an unstable form. I think that if something was released, it should be fixed to a usable state ASAP since errors like this are bound to happen. Other developers didn't get their name stamped everywhere because they ported a kernel either so I don't get why this should be an issue... (I don't mean to disrespect Ziyan as I really respect him and his work. I'm just not very happy with the unfinished 3.4 kernel that is out to the public and currently not being actively worked on. Porting a kernel on your own is a great feat that we must all respect but that doesn't earn you the right to have your name everywhere I think.)
