I just installed ubuntu touch 14.10 and there is no option to change the homescreen wallpaper. Why is this? I hate the white background and should be able to personalise my device. I'm sure this option was in 14.04.
You're right. This option has been removed.
I think the reason for this was to provide all scopes with a standard background. Do you think the 7digital scope would look good with, let's say, a car in the background?

does anyone know a way to switch themes in webtop? i tried using the xfce appearance thing but it doesn't switch. you can easily replace the default theme at webtop-theme but that's no good if you're developing a theme.
is it possible if you install an entire desktop environment like gnome or xface?
Dammit, all this time tinkering with webtop and I never noticed the themes didn't work.
Time to do some research

im had a glitch just now.. i plugged in my phone and noticed icons in the webtop popup menus.. so i opened the xfce4 appearance dialog and switched icon themes, and it worked! so next i tried switching themes.. it flickered and went dead, then relanched webtop with the webtop icons + theme.
so, obviously, yes, you can switch themes. no, webtop doesn't like it when you try. why? i duno. for now, replacing the gtk in the webtop-theme folder works fine and i highly HIGHLY recommend you do so. the default webtop theme is all images. find a gtk/metacity that uses a gtk engine other than pixmap
also, i recommend using setcpu to overclock to a minimum of 1300 when charging, and undervolt -75. webtop performs fairly well this way. minimum lag.
and i found an extension called hide caption titlebar plus for firefox that allows you to have the tabs in title bar effect like windows.. saves a good 22-26px vertical real estate =D
(surely everyone already knows this.. i'm thinking aloud.. with my fingers.. or something =p )
if you install gnome-desktop-environment you can use gnome-appearance-properties to swtich icons, metacity, cursors, and wallpapers.. (install gnome-screensaver followed by gnome-desktop-environment then add "gnome-session" to your osh/usr/local/bin/start-oshwt-2.sh .. if Appearance doesn't appear in System>Properties just create it with alacarte)
however all the controls themes look like the default webtop-theme and when you try to switch anyway bad things can happen.. i just applied the "simple" theme and everything crashed. i couldn't even boot into webtop until i removed all the themes but webtop-theme from the themes folder forcing it to fall back to default.
in gnome you can also access the touch pad controls from system>preferences and adjust touch pad speed.
so far i've had no problems with gnome. everything is running fast as ever and it feels more like ubuntu. ditch xfce4 and run gnome. the keyring wasn't working with xfce4 either = bad bad bad
edit: note that you can still simply replace the webtop-theme gtk with a theme of your choosing.. i highly recommend installing murrine and using mire v2 gtk. it's fast and dark, so the mobile view and such looks good. until i can modify the icons present on the mobile view app you really need to stick with dark controls
Similar to screensaver managers you'd find on other OS's? My preference is for it to randomise upon startup, anyone got any ideas? Is there a way to do it via Tasker?
Please bare in mind that I'm asking how to randomise live wallpapers, not standard, thanks!
There's an app called Multipicture live wallpaper. Allows you to choose a folder or album and lets you set things up. All you do is double tap screen if you want to change on the fly or let iit randomize on its own. This also puts a different picture on every screen. THE drawback is this app isn't ICS supported yet. It doesn't work on stock launcher. BuT if you get ADW launcher it works on that for some reason.
That's not for live wallpaper though is it?

Appreciate your guys time, but you're missing the point of the thread
I've used an app called Zedge on my Incredible2 and my Nook Color running Cyanogenmod 7 to download and set wallpapers and it has an option to randomize which wallpaper is displayed and change it automatically at an interval you set.
I haven't tried it on my TFP or ICS yet but I would recommend giving it a shot.
Hi,
It is more app development question, but as I mostly reader and don't post a lot - I have no access to dev forums yet.
I have my own wallpaper app (Awesome Nature Wallpapers) and noticed that it can't set wallpaper for lock screen when it runs on SGS3. When I test it on different phones (my old SGS1, GT7.7, Motorola Defy+, some Huawei phone and emulator) it is working fine - lock screen is transparent and wallpaper is visible, but not on SGS3.
Does anybody now how to change SGS3 lock screen background programmatically (I mean not from settings)?
Thanks in advance!

Need to use the stock gallery. QuickPic can do it as well but you still need to crop the photo using the Gallery's editor otherwise it won't work. Another option is to download a really old app called Wallpaper Set & Save. Works really well.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain properly - I'm not looking for another app to do it. I'm looking for a way to do it from my own app which I'm developing. Standard Android methods of changing wallpaper don't work for S3 lock screen background...
Hello,
first of brilliant work.
There are only one thing missing from the basic desktop (in this case laptop) functionality, which stop me from using this on a daily basis.
The problem is that the windows don't have any scrollbars. It very challenging to browse websites (i have to long press and drag my finger on the minute trackpad).
I am sure many users will view this as a powerful alternative of a laptop os, such as i do.
Hope you can implement these features in a near future.
Keep it up.
Regards
Any advance made in this?
Ive bought a bew computer becaus emy previous wasnt compatible now im loving it i definitely miss the scrol. Mine is touch screen but i can just image your pain..

it is very difficult to get anything done with a trackpad without scrollbars, just take a look at all the fus when google devs removed the scrollbars from chrome... they had to revert it back due to public demanding them.
But even with a mouse the scrollbars are usefull because you can easily go to a specific place on a web page (just an example)
For track pads use two fingers and slide your fingers up or down.
Does anyone know how to enable scroll bars or scrubber bars in Remix OS? I have seen this option in UI Launchers e.g.: CM Launcher with some of its installable themes. However, Remix OS does not allow you to install your own UI Launcher. Furthermore, does the default ui launcher of Remix OS allow you to install themes because then one could create one's own installable theme with scroll bars and scrubber bars.
This key feature is still not implemented in remix beta
Do developers read this fórum?

I've been successful with installing Nova Launcher. Perhaps same method would work for other launchers?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3330231
NOVA Launcher Working (method may work for other launchers)
So i guess scrollbars is just to dificult to develop.
No scroll bars is a makes it unusable for me.

Yes.... completly.
To bad other people don't see this. I guess it is because they use a mouse/touch instead of trackpad.

Might be a stupid question..but
Does CM Launcher not work in landscape mode? It's not rotating and no setting for it. Can't imagine it doesn't in 2018..
What am I missing here?

Samsung calls this a feature of not allowing wallpapers to rotate. Only icons, app drawer, apps, and such rotates. I use Ultimate Rotation Control to assist with rotating icons, app drawer, apps, and such. Yet won't rotate wallpaper, due to Samsung feature of no wallpaper rotation.
I talked to Samsung reps on this. That is when I found out that this is a Samsung feature since Android Oreo. No further information at this point if they are going to change that feature to allow wallpaper to rotate.
I know that this doesn't seem logical.
Sorry.
PS - I am using Nova Launcher.

Thanks for the reply..
Is CM Launcher support DEAD along with so many others?
Trying to finalize on a launcher, before spending a lot of time configuring organizing, etc..Don't want to use a dead(no longer supported launcher for obvious reasons.) Currently using Next launcher and that is now also dead.
Landscape mode and wallpaper rotation works fine in 90% of the launchers including TSF Launcher, I believe CM Launcher's company bought out. Why wouldn't CM Launcher be able to?
I am all about "Eye-Candy" and 3D effects in a launcher. (I know many want more lighter/efficient) TSF Launcher was one of the best.. however the company was bought out and it turned into CM launcher.
So first question, since so many "Eye-Candy" launchers have been dropped or no longer supported.
Is CM Launcher still alive?
Another question is why couldn't CM Launcher use the dead TSF launchers 3D effect ass-on's ?
It's just sad, TSF launcher had so much potential...to bad they got kicked out of the competition Home Launcher game.
Starting with Android Oreo Samsung has changed so that your wallpapers don't rotate in Note 8 (at least without some kind of modification that I don't know of).
That said:
I don't use 3D interfaces on mobile devices since SPB launcher for Windows Mobile 6.x.So I wouldn't know your answer outside of what Samsung reps told me.
Since 3D interfaces are so much different from Google's material design I believe caused the popularity of 3D interfaces to wane on Android. There has been design movement away from "3D" design for awhile now. You see that in iOS, Macs, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Android. Neat as 3D interfaces are, they get in the way from the focus of what these tools are designed for. It is like word processing in VR 3D. Maybe in the future 3D interface designs will get better in not be so distracting from the work at hand for many people. As well as views and tastes will change in the future.
